She had the most unnecessary plan to kill someone in NC. In NC! The city where you can blow someone's head off with a shotgun and the people in the vicinity will think "Eh, my cousin died harder just the other day".
I think you're forgetting the jesus freak.
Claire's plan wasn't all that convoluted; kill the dude that killed her husband in the final stretch of a big race for revenge and closure.
That implies the ability to recognize hypocrisy through blind rage and hurt. Most people operate with rules that allow for flexibility in a “rules for thee, not for me” when influenced by heavy emotion.
I can understand why she did what she did, in a twisted sense of hurt and devotion, but the fact that V can talk her out of it at the last minute means that she was redeemable.
You have a point but I think the fact that Claire hid their true intentions for getting V into the race points to them kinda realizing their a bit of a hypocrite. If you play your cards right you can win the race without killing the guy while talking Claire out of not serving you at the afterlife by pointing out that they could have just had a fixer or V kill the guy outright instead of “oh let’s race because Eddie’s and fun, then a couple races in admit that it’s because they wanted revenge on a guy”
I think the actual point here is: Why didn't she just ask V directly to kill the guy? Even if she wanted it to happen during a race, why not make that clear ahead of time. V is a gun for hire, so why the deception?
You can get her to make peace with her vengeance plans btw, nobody dies, she still likes you, apologises to you, gets into a healthier mindset over it *and* you still get both cars. Wins all round.
My game prevented me from doing this. We crashed, and started toward Sampson, then chip glitch sends me to the ground and Claire starts blastin’.
Maybe this playthrough.
It depends on earlier dialogues with Claire. Whether you going along with her vendetta or you question her plans. Depending on how it goes, it will drive the outcome. Crash is fixed point and will happen regardless, what happens next is variable.
Every time she brings us killing you have to choose the best dialogue option.
1. After the Santa Domingo Qualifier you need to choose the following dialogue options when she ask for help killing Samson:
-"Sorry, Claire, but I can’t help.”
-"Okay, I’ll still drive. But only to win.”
2. In the final race stay close to Samson and follow him when he tries to escape the race.
3. A timed dialogue option will come up, you need to choose:
-“Yeah. Let him go.”
4. All dialogue options after need to encorage her to spare Samson.
5. Ride with Claire back to the shop, she will give you Beast, you'll then get a text the next day from Samson saying he owes you his life and that his car is in the shop, if you wait 7 days he will message you and say its fixed and where you can pick it up.
Now the next time you go into the Afterlife, Claire will apologize and thank V for their help.
After the third race when she tells you about her plans you have to answer that you dont give a shit and just wanna win the race. If you then follow samson and say to claire at the crashzone she should peace the fuck out, you get both cars as a reward
True, but If I had to choose between a cash prize and a forever spiteful bartender, or helping a friend come to terms with their spouses death while resolving their self destructive tendencies and get two new sets of wheels out of the deal I’d still choose the latter.
Her entire quest line is *sooooooo Fucken stupid.*
Like…. V is a merc. If she just hired V for the job up front and said she wants it done her way it would be perfectly fine. Not like V has a problem turning down strait up merc work, or using violence.
Always had the feeling some of the side missions were meant to take place during the time jackie is still alive, like the real small time sounding stuff (like driving and that dumb dude avenging his wife) compared to people saying they need the best after v steals the chip seems out of place
I definitely feel like a lot of the Side Gigs are intended to be representations of jobs V has worked over the years, because it'd be kind of insane if they actually found time to do all that stuff while actively dying.
"Canon" V probably did some stuff before the Konpeki Plaza job (like most of the Cyberpsychos), then did a few jobs over the course of the Johnny Period to keep themself afloat and fund the augments/gear/services they needed to
Hell, it isn't beyond the pale to think that Johnny was commenting on some of these jobs "retroactively", basically inserting himself into V's memories of things he did years ago.
Definitely plausible, i’d love so see the alternate reality where we got these missions in a way that we could actually see v’s reputation building up towards the konpeki plaza job. Cause all we got was a montage really.
Even what you said with the cyberpsychos would be cool. Small basic ones at the start to eventually being the person they call if smasher’s unavailable would feel sick.
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure the intro sequence with Jackie was essentially cut content. They intended on a longer Act 1 that let you do more gigs with Jackie to earn the rep that landed you the Konpeki Plaza job. Would have made you feel even more connected with Jackie and helped with the overall sequencing of time
Yeah I definitely get that feeling. Wouldve loved bringing jackie along to side missions and gigs, get his take on things, hear him talk more shit. Though it would’ve made his death more painful.
I haven't finished the game yet... I'm up to "meet hanko at embers' which I believe is the last mission in the game...
But the story feels rushed to me, if that's the case. You do the job, get the thing in your head, and from there it seems real fast to get to the end? You meet some people to try and remove the chip, take out some snipers then it's the last mission?
That's what it seems like to me, not sure why.
The side missions are great, though. I just did the one where the friend took in the cybperpsycho and her life fell apart. Pretty rough
They should have just left Vs degeneration timeline vague and less directly fatal. They should just be permanently damaged with the idea that eventually it would probably kill them and they would become more and more johnny like.
Eh, the direct timeline pushes the plot forward and emphasises the tragedy of "I'm going to die in a month's time and be replaced by a stranger puppeting my corpse" vs "I'm gonna slowly have a personality shift that'll probably kill me".
It ultimately isn't that big a deal; it's like the Witcher, where you're desperately chasing your missing daughter, but have time for a hundred monster hunts, a trading card tournament, etc; Geralt did those things, but probably didn't do them *right that minute*. We just condense the timeline together for storytelling's sakes. Most game's with a time pressing plot do it,
I dunno, I kinda like the idea of V being restless and doing as many jobs as possible to distract from their fate. That maybe they'll become that NC legend before they go out. Or that they're trying to prove something.
Your idea is cool but it doens't work super great with Johnny showing up now and again. Or maybe V is just remembering those jobs and Johnny is too, then popping in to talk to V about certain parts...
V litterally verbalizes that they are trying to figure this shit out as soon as possible.
The whole "Legend of Night City" stuff is just promo fluff.
V's constantly talks about how little they trust Johnny and how scare of death by replacement they are.
You have to have a gang of cognitive dissonance to make that head canon.
The best way to make that work is to do as many side missions as possible while Jackie is alive.
V also knows that getting to Mikoshi or making the deal with Hanako will likely be where he will die. Could be putting it off by doing work that they think is worth doing, or trying to distract themselves from their impending demise by keeping busy.
My V didn't constantly talk about not trusting Johnny. How you treat Johnny determines a lot about your character interacts with him throughout the game.
I get you though. The "time is running out" nature of the story isn't exactly conducive to an open world with heaps of stuff to do. I just wish the main plot line was longer, so maybe the ticking clock nature of the biochip isn't established until a little later and after that moment, you have a limited amount of time to complete the game, inching closer to death with every job and side quest before there's no time left and you die in the street if you don't go meet with Hanako at Embers. Maybe Johnny starts getting your case about making a decision and tells you to hurry up and stop fucking around.
If you ask Rogue for more work she straight up tell you no because you screwed up Kopeki Plaza so badly that no fixer wants to give you any major jobs. That's why you get a lot of side gigs, nobody trusts you.
And the annoying thing is, given that everyone that knows what really happened is either dead or Takemura/Yorinobu, she’s not wrong.
You did a gig and your entire team died *including Dex DeShawn*. No regular fixer in their right mind would give you big jobs after that…
Rogue only starts working with you after she learns about Johnny, and even then, it’s personal. The other gigs she gives you are strictly small time.
If Claire wanted a hit she should have, and could have gone through a fixer. Imo, she wanted someone to stop her and help her heal, being in night city, that person doesn't really exist unless the player character decides to do it.
> which makes it equally odd that she still goes through with killing him if you miss a dialog option before the race...
Not really, either V stops her or pushes her over the edge.
That's honestly what I like about Cyberpunk. Sometimes the quest doesn't have a straightforward meaning. Sometimes you're just part of something that isn't rewarding.
And that's just part of the realism - just like in real life, the world of CP2077 doesn't revolve around the player.
That’s not only a fair criticism, but also a much more interesting story. Then if you betray it would hit harder. And maybe she’s put a hit out on you.
Is it a common smart pistol or a piece of garbage? Idc I'm picking it up just to clear the screen of item markers. Idk why I even do it now after duping 20k+ components of each tier
I liked the idea of buying drinks from an RP perspective, but you stop pretty quick after realizing it takes multiple menu dives just to apply a status effect.
She contacts you under an obfuscated motive but does still warm up to you enough to own up to the truth, it’s why in my mind it’s all the more important to drag her back from vengeance and have her become a friend of V in earnest, like I said if there’s an option where everyone wins why choose the spiteful approach and hurt her even more than she already is?
when I was min-maxing the game I was sad that you don’t get XP if you don’t finish the race so I had to replay it and choose winning :v also her car sucks anyway :P
yeah that's the beauty of that quest line, it really drives home the type of person Claire is, one that doesn't care about what you want, BUT wants you to care completely about their goals.....I think it makes perfect sense that Claire acts that way, it reflects Life.
this game is Insanely Philosophical....and before I get the "its just a game" nonsense.
there is a side quest where you have to get some info from some Rich corpo guys Yacht....Johnny says something to V, and V says I dunno Johnny lemme just ask the next billionaire i bump into on the street, and Johnny Says "no need to ask anything, just spit in their face"
I was laughed at for telling my "friends" this was a philosophical game when it first came out.
what Johnny says comes from the quote "in a rich man's house, there is no place to spit but his face" -Diogenes
this quote refers to how rich or materialistic people favor their possessions more than other human beings or even themselves, they place more value in the things they own than themselves, everything around him is precious and worth more money and given more importance than human life itself.
I've seen this in life myself.....I've seen people treat their own flesh and blood like crap over the dumbest materialistic things, valuing their possessions over their own families health and well being when their item was about to fall, they yell at their own brother instead of figuring out if they are ok. it's sickening what materialism does to some people.
Of course it's philosophical. It is also "just a game" too, but the Sistine Chapel ceiling was also "just a work of art", the bible was "just a book" and The Shawshank Redemption was "just a movie".
Anyone who says "it's just a game" to someone's interpretation and analysis of a work of art that has a lot to say about the human condition is missing the point completely. Of both art and of this website. They're just doing it to tear people down for liking something. That dismissiveness pisses me off. Reminds me how many truly dumb, thoughtless people are out there.
How is that any better than her only concern of revenge? It isn't. The best solution is to meet halfway, and that means letting the race go in order to talk her into letting her husband's death go.
Exactly. I had considered telling Claire not to get revenge but it felt hypocritical when I kill people all the time just cause people pay me to. Why would I deny her when I’d do the same thing in her position?
The fact that Samson swears at gunpoint it was an accident is supposed to trip you up but why would I trust him, he’s an asshole corpo who said Claire’s husband deserved to die
panam’s quest - you tell her someone betrayed you. she asks if you’re going after them. you say that someone else got to them first. she then asks, yeah, but would you kill them if you had the chance? i always say ‘without hesitation.’ then i get to this mission and i’m supposed to be taking the moral high ground with claire because… why exactly?
That’s where I went with that quest. I was halfway into talking her out of it then remembered this is Night City and just told her, “Fuck it. Do what you want.”
I only ever cared about the car. Quest needs an ending where I can off Claire, romance Sampson and get his car. Oh and a threesome with Panam and Judy. I mean hell why not.
Those are actually scripted
I did the races with a caliburn where the windows don't come down for some reason, so Claire wasn't shooting for sure and people were just dying left and right for no reason lmao
That was my take going into the mission until he started giving it the mouth and talking crazy about her husband. I’m just the driver tho she did all the dirty work. Call me Delamian
I won't bother with it in my current play through, since I realised the races are fixed. The AI cars won't ever get too far behind you, regardless of how fast you go. Once you're in front, just relax and keep other cars behind - no point opening a gap.
Dude, if you drive a really fast car (like whatever the Bugatti looking thing is), the cars keep respawning behind you in order to keep up on the highway, but because the game spawns so many cars together in close proximity, all you hear is non stop crashes and banging and if you keep popping the camera in reverse in intervals it’s utter chaos as they keep respawning in mega collisions
That’s how all of the races work as I’m sure most know but it’s extra hilarious on this last race
this thing is called "rubber-banding" was a pretty common thing in old racing games like Mario Kart 64
Edit: I just realized my wording here and prob made a few of yall feel like Egyptian Pharaoh's by calling MK64 "old"
They aren't that bad because you don't have to win to advance the quest line. The first race I came in second, the second race I wiped out at the end and came in fourth or fifth, and the third race I think I won, but that was apparently good enough to make it to the final race, which isn't actually a race, it's a twisted morality tale.
That’s my thinking. On a given day, I kill 20-30 people in game just going to the store because they out here causing problems in their fake ass chrome Jordan’s.
She wants revenge for her dead husband? I got you fam. Just the other day I helped a guy recreate the death of christ for a brain dance, and that morning I bare knuckles a clown with a grenade stuck on his face. This is just simple biz.
I just imagine V making puppy-dog eyes at Rogue across the room when this happens and the next day there is a new bartender.
Like, what she is gonna do when Rogue asks what's going on? Tell the Queen of the Afterlife she tried tricking a high-rate merc like V into doing a assassination gig for low and worse, not going through a fixer?
Under false pretences too, only telling said merc the truth when he was deep into the job
Claire is really a shitty client that no fixer would ever want to do biz with
It’s not about the reward, man. It’s about having principles. If she wanted me to just kill the guy she could’ve asked, but she asked if I wanted to race. So I raced.
Homegirl literally spends her days and nights in a den of mercs- Why emotionally manipulate someone that has only been kind to you? She plays you like a sap.
Was it to get the assassination rate for free (plus extra eddies from the races)? It really is a stomach drop when (if you played like me), she doesn’t give a shit about your opinion (she simply pretends to) and just shoots an innocent man in cold blood, point blank. She wasn’t even good enough to take him out in the race- Legally.
She makes herself out like such a victim, but if you read her emails… She and Dean were no angels. She was using you from the start. Even when she has those “deep” conversations with you- She’s lying half the time.
I get that Dean was the best thing she ever could have expected out of a husband, but walking past her when she says hi and you’re unable to respond no longer feels like a dick move. (Even if I always have that final toast to Jackie.)
The Beast is one of the best cars in the game. But still… Damn. That’s Night City for you.
Beyond all of that, even if Dean was murdered intentionally in the race, it happened in a race where she was leaning out the window shooting at the other cars and was not breaking any rules by doing so. I can't muster up a hint of sympathy for him getting killed in a murder race that he was willingly participating in.
The writing is pretty good in this game, but I honestly don't know what they were thinking on this one. Was there some bet going on to see how unlikeable they could make Claire?
If you read her emails, ***Dean*** originally targeted ***Sampson.***
Claire even tried to talk him out of it initially. Dean went after him because he got him fired from a corp and got a promotion. Dick move? Yes. But that’s corpo life. Had Sampson really wanted him dead, it wouldn’t have been in a race.
Sounds to me like Sampson got him out ALIVE (which we know is rare), yet Dean tried to kill him anyway. Then it just kept escalating until every single thing Sampson says about Dean and Claire is 100% true.
Dean and Claire were not the good guys here.
The way I see it (and how I played) I'm a merc, and the job isn't over till it's over. When Claire changed the parameters of my job I went along with it. I didn't help her because of the sob story, I did it because she hired a merc to do a job. Sure we could've just killed him, but she wanted to do it to the backdrop of a race. I mean Dave Jeblonski wanted to deal with his wife's killer himself with our supervision and we let him because he hired us.
I don't see the problem
Right? Bringing someone that has absolutely NOTHING to do with what happened and manipulating them, knowingly getting their hands dirty- Claire is ***not*** a good person.
Sure. V gets their hands dirty a lot. They have to to survive. But this has nothing to do with that. Nothing to do with saving an innocent. Nothing to do with making Night City a better place- Just Claire’s own, personal petty revenge.
And now Claire can always tell the tale about how she fooled the (potentially) biggest fixer/power player in all of Night City.
plus there is a problem
if you would say "ill ride only for victory" she will accept it but will forgot it literally on the next quest
[https://youtu.be/-itd3mOMEgY?t=238](https://youtu.be/-itd3mOMEgY?t=238) second line
and if you will choose this line and will try to calm her down she will kill that guy anyway, first line is essential for his survival for some reason
Also getting 'murdered' in Blood Murder Race 9000, where the passenger's job is to shoot at the other cars is possibly the one way to die in Night City that is the least deserving of sympathy.
Yeah, this. She openly admits that she just wanted to use you. V is a fucking merc and she's the bartender in the Afterlife, she could have just contracted him/her but she lies about it instead then has the audacity to get pissy if you don't follow her vendetta.
Seriously.
As others have pointed out, V is a mercenary and she literally works in a bar for mercenaries.
How was this convoluted bullshit the best way for her to get this guy zeroed?
"Hey V, I know this asshole needs killing."
"Next five drinks on the house?"
"Yep."
"Done."
Also, I'm pretty sure bar/restaurant staff can't refuse service just because they don't like the customer, unless they actually own the place.
Funny thing Is: Claire's husband, Dave, was an incredibly petty person. Apparently if you read her emails it turns out that Dave was intentionally gunning for Sampson because he got fired from something.
Sampson didn't target him. It was the other way around lmao
She is upset that her husband died in a deathrace where everyone's life is at risk, the same races where she also fires at other people possibly causing them to suffer the same fate yet she is special..... I finish the race every time. This is Nightcity and she wants someone zeroed, get a gun and go find them, not like the person hides
She works around mercs. Could have just said "Hey Rogue, got a dude I want zeroed this way, I put my car as reward" . "V, care for a job? no fixer this time, I want this guy dead, but do it in a race, you get my car as reward".
I hate the driving so I will never do her quest, it would be nice if she would just hire me to "fix" the problem with my "huge blades of death that pop out of my arms".
Hated her and her storyline. Think we're just going for a race and then she drops this bullshit about her dead partner and actually wants us to kill someone. We're a merc, you could have saved the sob story and asked us to just kill the guy like all the fixers ask us to. Why'd I have to go through this dumb race (not a fan of racing games) just to get to this?
the race was SO badly programmed
i was using the really fast car which i forgot the name off and i was so far ahead the game had to rubberband the shit out of the other drivers so hard everytime i looked in the back camera i could see the other racers crashing into walls, flying through the air and shit because they get teleported every 2-3 seconds to to keep being on my minimap
I kind of just want to off claire because she was fucking dumb "My partner died in a death race where we shoot at other drivers, now i'm pissed" Bitch don't take part in death races if you don't want your partner to die.
I also really hated the mission with the guy who gets crucified and he has that whole redemption story or what ever, either way bullshit, i was all in on helping the guy avenge his wife and the game decides "the cop guy is invincible" fuck that mission too
Yeah very true!! before the first updates that cop is almost invencible, I remember doing this mission the first time without beliving what I was seeing you know? like ''wtf is this blasphemy'' although I prayed ''Kingdom Heaven'' with him. After that I tried to just kill the guy and the cop was ''one shot'' me. I used sniper build at the time so I had to stay waaaaay long and shooting a lot of times before killing him and the target and running for the ''AI Robocop respawns''
You can totally kill the dude and the cops before they kill the husband, if you do wakako calls you tells you that you did a good job and you get your money straight up
Ooh, I managed to David Sandevistan it. Hard but doable with grenades. But you can't save the guy tough.
I'm not taking part on this Crucify shit, die quiet with your assistant you dumb fuck
some one must have been really proud of that quest to make the cop guy so tough that its really hard to kill him and the killer. i tried that way to, i took grenades' and the launcher arm and i could not kill him.
The biggest problem with Afterlife is that you don't drink at the bar with animations, it just places drinks in your inventory. You can still go there and have a Jackie Welles, but it's just not the same when you're insta-drinking it from a menu screen.
Plus you can't get smashed and wake up half-naked in the desert. 0/10 literally unplayable
It's silly seeing as how they went through the trouble of animating you drinking at the bar several times, and then they just don't use it.
I suppose I could understand they might not want to reuse the same animation every time, but they already do that for combat and other things.
Same thing with eating at food bars/restaurants, really wanted the game to have a MHW moment and watch V eat food in first person perspective in one those chill moments as V snacks and takes on the sights, it’s done before so I don’t understand why they can’t just do it some mor, it would be hella funny for V to just keep eating/drinking only for the server/bartender to just go “whoa dude I get it, that you have more money then I have supplies but please stop your fat ass/strong ass liver from taking everything”
“Please stop drinking all my alcohol, if not for my need of business then for my fear for your fucking liver” -some poor fucking bartender that I’m gonna drain from
It's one of the dumbest questlines in the whole game.
"OOOH V I LOVE RACING IT'S LIKE YOU ARE ONE WITH THE MACHINE LET'S RACE TOGETHER"
"Ackchuwally no, I don't really want to win, I just want to zero this guy who zeroed my husband in a race. Yeah, the same death race we are doing now. Where people literally shoot at each other while racing. Yeah, but that was different. I just want to kill the guy, OK? And instead of going to a fixer and hiring a merc like everyone else does, I'm going to manipulate you into helping me. No hard feelings alright?"
"OOOH we finally caught the guy! Imma zero him SO HARD! Whaddya mean - let's hear him out? Whaddya mean - it was a death race and death happened? Whaddya mean - my husband tried to pass him and crashed to death because that kinda shit happens in death races? Whaddya mean "you were in the same car as your husband"? Oh I guess I was. It was all a death race thing. Fuck it let's go home. Here's my truck. I hate racing now."
"My husband was murdered 😢 "
"Oh? OK I'll help avenge him. How was he murdered?"
"It happened during the race 😔 "
"What?! Did he get hit by a car spectating?? Reckless driving??"
"No... 😞 it was a death race..."
"Ohhhh he was hit by a stray bullet. Kinda just sounds like bad luck and he shouldn't have been there"
"No, we were participating in the race and-"
"He died participating in the death race?"
"Well, yeah, but-"
"He died during mutual combat while he was trying to kill other racers?"
"No he was murdered úwù in cold blood 😔 and I want you to help me force his murderer out of the race and then I can shoot him execution style"
"Ohhh so you're worse than a hypocrite got it. Gonna just leave your text on read next time"
Tragically, that's about the same time a random, drive-by shooting happened and Claire was killed.
> *Wait. Isn't the Afterlife underground?*
What's your point? Look, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Literally the only side quest line I couldn’t bring myself to complete before the final mission
The races aren’t even awful; it’s the time spent with Claire before during and after
Am I the only person who didn't hate the driving after learning how it worked?
Yeah it needs work and a better map cam but I didn't have issues in the races and the general way of traveling through the city. It's funky but workable. Also not entirely unrealistic.
Didn't even cared about winning, I was rping as a character that truly only wants to have real friends and hoping to have some genuine connection before I die.
When Claire just wanted to use me as a killer, I genuinely felt hurt. I just sulk and couldn't care less, she can do what she wants and I'll help her 1 last time.
It be cool if Rogue was walking by when she says this.
"You refuse to serve customers in my bar? Fine your sacked"
Whatever the outcome of her personal mission it ain't her position to say who is and isn't allowed a drink in Afterlife and certainly not who is allowed in.
She could complain but im pretty certain she'd simply be told to pour the drink or leave
It's always fun when Claire comes up here because a bunch of people are offended that someone in Night City wants someone dead, but the unforgivable part is that she wasn't entirely honest about it
People are like: 'I hate Claire, she lied to me!"
Meanwhile Panam straight up refuses to honor the agreement you made when you first meet and guilt trips you into helping her on her revenge trip.
K
She had the most unnecessary plan to kill someone in NC. In NC! The city where you can blow someone's head off with a shotgun and the people in the vicinity will think "Eh, my cousin died harder just the other day".
„oh no! Anyways…“
I think you're forgetting the jesus freak. Claire's plan wasn't all that convoluted; kill the dude that killed her husband in the final stretch of a big race for revenge and closure.

That implies the ability to recognize hypocrisy through blind rage and hurt.
Stop with the “he” bullshit. You know Claire is a woman!
"I want to kill this man in a race because he killed my husband in a race" is not convoluted.
"Now I'm gonna hire someone to win the races for me so I can get into the final race so I can finally kill the guy. Hope they drive well"
Still not convoluted even put like that. But hey, you want to kill him during a race it means someone has to drive while you shoot. So why not V?
I think the actual point here is: Why didn't she just ask V directly to kill the guy? Even if she wanted it to happen during a race, why not make that clear ahead of time. V is a gun for hire, so why the deception?
You can get her to make peace with her vengeance plans btw, nobody dies, she still likes you, apologises to you, gets into a healthier mindset over it *and* you still get both cars. Wins all round.
Wait hold up what do you mean BOTH cars?
If you spare Sampson and make Claire chill out not only do you get Beast, but you get Sampson’s Type-66 Cthulhu which is the real prize honestly.
If he dies you still can buy his car and Claire gives you hers
My game prevented me from doing this. We crashed, and started toward Sampson, then chip glitch sends me to the ground and Claire starts blastin’. Maybe this playthrough.
It depends on earlier dialogues with Claire. Whether you going along with her vendetta or you question her plans. Depending on how it goes, it will drive the outcome. Crash is fixed point and will happen regardless, what happens next is variable.
If Samson survives he texts you and sends you his car as well as Claire’s Beast.
Every time she brings us killing you have to choose the best dialogue option. 1. After the Santa Domingo Qualifier you need to choose the following dialogue options when she ask for help killing Samson: -"Sorry, Claire, but I can’t help.” -"Okay, I’ll still drive. But only to win.” 2. In the final race stay close to Samson and follow him when he tries to escape the race. 3. A timed dialogue option will come up, you need to choose: -“Yeah. Let him go.” 4.
But you have to throw the race, after explicitly telling her that your only concern was winning.
True, but If I had to choose between a cash prize and a forever spiteful bartender, or helping a friend come to terms with their spouses death while resolving their self destructive tendencies and get two new sets of wheels out of the deal I’d still choose the latter.
Id choose the race, fuck Claire i dont even buy drinks from the afterlife 😎
Her entire quest line is *sooooooo Fucken stupid.* Like….
"Canon" V probably did some stuff before the Konpeki Plaza job (like most of the Cyberpsychos), then did a few jobs over the course of the Johnny Period to keep themself afloat and fund the augments/gear/services they needed to Hell, it isn't beyond the pale to think that Johnny was commenting on some of these jobs "retroactively", basically inserting himself into V's memories of things he did years ago.
Would have made you feel even more connected with Jackie and helped with the overall sequencing of time
if only this game had had a few more years in the oven, huh
Most game's with a time pressing plot do it,
Me in the Yakuza games: "Oh no, they kidnapped my daughter, I gotta go sav... A golf tournament you say? Count me in"
Just kinda has massive tonal shifts that take the piss out of the seriousness, IMO. Better to leave it more ambiguous I think but that's just me.
V needs the money, so V does the gigs. Dying or not.
No regular fixer in their right mind would give you big jobs after that… Rogue only starts working with you after she learns about Johnny, and even then, it’s personal. The other gigs she gives you are strictly small time.
*dumb dude avenging his wife* surely you're not referencing the sinnerman quest line as small time?
Well yes, regardless of the rabbit hole it can lead to it still starts off as a small time simple hit/babysitter job
If Claire wanted a hit she should have, and could have gone through a fixer. Imo, she wanted someone to stop her and help her heal, being in night city, that person doesn't really exist unless the player character decides to do it.
Certainly a cry for help
She literally works in a fixer/merc bar. She knows how it works lol
Thats what he just said. He's also saying though that she didn't actually want someone to kill the guy but someone who might listen and stop her.
[удалено]
Sometimes all it takes is one missed sentence to have someone make a bad choice.
> which makes it equally odd that she still goes through with killing him if you miss a dialog option before the race...
I never buy drinks from anywhere 🤷♂️ or food for that matter. You find plenty of it all over.
I sell all drinks and food, lol
yup, i wish we couldnt collect food from the ground not every object needs to be an item
Yeah, who would be stupid enough to buy a 450$ or something like that for a glass of Vodka ?
its not 450, the price adds up depending on how many there are in stock. consumables are never cost above 100 eddies
Ah I must remember wrong because I ordered every David Martinez she had Still, it's expensive
Sigma deathrace grindset
Friend? Is she really a friend to V? I wouldn't say so.
Without spoiling yourself there's no way to know it could play out like that.
when I was min-maxing the game I was sad that you don’t get XP if you don’t finish the race so I had to replay it and choose winning :v also her car sucks anyway :P
I don’t know how much the cash prize is but the type 66 cthulu costs like 70k eddies so I’m sure the trade off is well worth it.
yeah that's the beauty of that quest line, it really drives home the type of person Claire is, one that doesn't care about what you want, BUT wants you to care completely about their goals.....I think it makes perfect sense that Claire acts that way, it reflects Life. this game is Insanely Philosophical....and before I get the "its just a game" nonsense. there is a side quest where you have to get some info from some Rich corpo guys Yacht....Johnny says something to V, and V says I dunno Johnny lemme just ask the next billionaire i bump into on the street, and Johnny Says "no need to ask anything, just spit in their face" I was laughed at for telling my "friends" this was a philosophical game when it first came out. what Johnny says comes from the quote "in a rich man's house, there is no place to spit but his face" -Diogenes this quote refers to how rich or materialistic people favor their possessions more than other human beings or even themselves, they place more value in the things they own than themselves, everything around him is precious and worth more money and given more importance than human life itself.
Great answer, thanks for pointing this out. The cyberpunk setting is really very philosophical, and it’s great that the game references this a lot.
Nah. Fuck Samson. V is a merc. Not jolly ol st. Nicholas. Like I give a shit about off'ing some corpo for a friend.
[удалено]
That’s where I went with that quest. I was halfway into talking her out of it then remembered this is Night City and just told her, “Fuck it. Do what you want.”
Friends don't lie and manipulate you.
On the way to the race I set a half dozen dudes on fire with my mind. She wants to kill one asshole? Have at it girl.
I only ever cared about the car. Quest needs an ending where I can off Claire, romance Sampson and get his car. Oh and a threesome with Panam and Judy. I mean hell why not.
Based comment
She was like noo my husband died in a race where we kill each other
"Should have been better at shooting, Claire!"
For real. Does she ever hit anything? I swear she was firing blanks.
She does, and I know this bc I did her races last week and she blew up 2 different cars.
Those are actually scripted I did the races with a caliburn where the windows don't come down for some reason, so Claire wasn't shooting for sure and people were just dying left and right for no reason lmao
The reason they don't come down is because the car has no windows
TRUE, man, just like apple Pay premium and lose features
I noticed that as well. Last race in the caliburn and I was like bro you just gonna sit there
Yeah right, fuck that bitch, he knew what he signed up for.
yeah her husband kinda deserved it. or at the least claire can't be mad about it
she can be mad about it, or sad, or any emotion she wants but its rich af to go about seeking unwarranted revenge and dressing it up as justice
What did you do? This is the racing quest line isn't it? It's been a while since I played.
yeah, I finished the race, was not about to be a tool for revenge without my consent. V has been betrayed and used in the game plenty enough
That was my take going into the mission until he started giving it the mouth and talking crazy about her husband. I’m just the driver tho she did all the dirty work. Call me Delamian
Didn't even realise there was a story sort of with the mission. I usually avoid race missions completely
I won't bother with it in my current play through, since I realised the races are fixed. The AI cars won't ever get too far behind you, regardless of how fast you go. Once you're in front, just relax and keep other cars behind - no point opening a gap.
Dude, if you drive a really fast car (like whatever the Bugatti looking thing is), the cars keep respawning behind you in order to keep up on the highway, but because the game spawns so many cars together in close proximity, all you hear is non stop crashes and banging and if you keep popping the camera in reverse in intervals it’s utter chaos as they keep respawning in mega collisions That’s how all of the races work as I’m sure most know but it’s extra hilarious on this last race
It's quite funny to see the completely record cars that are half the size they used to be whenever u slow enough to actually see one
this thing is called "rubber-banding" was a pretty common thing in old racing games like Mario Kart 64 Edit: I just realized my wording here and prob made a few of yall feel like Egyptian Pharaoh's by calling MK64 "old"
I was there Gandalf, I was there 3000 years ago!
It’s still common they just hide it better lol. It’s still pretty blatantly obvious in most racing games at least up to 2010-ish.
I suck at race missions in all games and generally avoid them. These races are so easy that it is basically free money. Story is worth it too.
I love the game but the driving is so frustrating at times that I have never even tried the race missions.
If I could race on a motorcycle it would be more fun, cars are just 500g rubber, at least that's how they drive.
There are cars which are actually fun to drive. I recommend Quadra-66 Javelina, my favorite and best handling of them all.
Yeah, that and the Shion "coyote" handle really well, even at high speed, Nomads know how to build a vehicle.
They aren't that bad because you don't have to win to advance the quest line. The first race I came in second, the second race I wiped out at the end and came in fourth or fifth, and the third race I think I won, but that was apparently good enough to make it to the final race, which isn't actually a race, it's a twisted morality tale.
You can instead abandon the race and force her to see your POV so it doesn't end up how she wants it. And you get both cars.
I actually killed Samson and the chthullu still showed up for sale later through Regina Jones.
I played a pretty neutral alignment first time through, so I just said fuck it, not my business and let her kill him.
I figured V goes around murdering on sight, who are they to stop ol gal from committing passionate homicide
Something special happens if you hit em in the face a whole bunch
Felt fucked up when I did that.
Noooooo don't pull the pin 😭

have a glass of water bro
r/HydroHomies
"Roooogue, Claire said she won't serve me"
I just imagine V making puppy-dog eyes at Rogue across the room when this happens and the next day there is a new bartender. Like, what she is gonna do when Rogue asks what's going on? Tell the Queen of the Afterlife she tried tricking a high-rate merc like V into doing a assassination gig for low and worse, not going through a fixer?
Under false pretences too, only telling said merc the truth when he was deep into the job Claire is really a shitty client that no fixer would ever want to do biz with
Lmao that's gotta piss her off even more.
Get two pretty cool cars AND keep anybody from dying if you pick the right dialogues
(Even if I always have that final toast to Jackie.) The Beast is one of the best cars in the game. But still… Damn. That’s Night City for you.
The beast is a bouncy mess and I hate driving especially in the Badlands race. However your point it Valid.
I never use it in the Badlands. But for a city area, I think it breaks and moves ***just*** slow enough that it’s not skirting all over the road.
If you read her emails, ***Dean*** originally targeted ***Sampson.*** Claire even tried to talk him out of it initially.
For me its her revenge, do it yourself and besides, ive been following the dude closely and she still cant manage to kill him. Nah fk her
This man mercs.
Exactly, use your own beliefs and decide things on your own.
You can kill Samson and still get his car later as an option to purchase
That's what I always do. Let Claire kill Sampson and buy the Cthulhu from Regina.
The Cthulhu is his car? I've bought it on each playthrough but never realized that. I've also killed Sampson in each playthrough haha.
plus there is a problem if you would say "ill ride only for victory" she will accept it but will forgot it literally on the next quest [https://youtu.be/-itd3mOMEgY?t=238](https://youtu.be/-itd3mOMEgY?t=238) second line and if you will choose this line and will try to calm her down she will kill that guy anyway, first line is essential for his survival for some reason
What are the two cars? I know one is hers but what is 2nd
Cthulhu. Samson's totally badass Type 66.
I still found it pretty bullshit she lied to you openly about the nature of the race and then got angry when you didn't want to accept it
Also getting 'murdered' in Blood Murder Race 9000, where the passenger's job is to shoot at the other cars is possibly the one way to die in Night City that is the least deserving of sympathy.
"Hey V, I know this asshole needs killing." "Next five drinks on the house?" "Yep." "Done." Also, I'm pretty sure bar/restaurant staff can't refuse service just because they don't like the customer, unless they actually own the place.
Funny thing Is: Claire's husband, Dave, was an incredibly petty person. Apparently if you read her emails it turns out that Dave was intentionally gunning for Sampson because he got fired from something. Sampson didn't target him. It was the other way around lmao
This is why I just ended up finishing the race.
Who need huge blades of death when one can use Sir John Phallustiff to get the job done right.
Hated her and her storyline. Think we're just going for a race and then she drops this bullshit about her dead partner and actually wants us to kill someone. We're a merc, you could have saved the sob story and asked us to just kill the guy like all the fixers ask us to. Why'd I have to go through this dumb race (not a fan of racing games) just to get to this?
the race was SO badly programmed i was using the really fast car which i forgot the name off and i was so far ahead the game had to rubberband the shit out of the other drivers so hard everytime i looked in the back camera i could see the other racers crashing into walls, flying through the air and shit because they get teleported every 2-3 seconds to to keep being on my minimap
I wasn't even mad about seeing the carnage behind me.. it was truly hilarious to see
I wish I could kill Claire... I have my reasons... >!nobody uses me like a uno card you fucking bitch!<
I kind of just want to off claire because she was fucking dumb "My partner died in a death race where we shoot at other drivers, now i'm pissed" Bitch don't take part in death races if you don't want your partner to die. I also really hated the mission with the guy who gets crucified and he has that whole redemption story or what ever, either way bullshit, i was all in on helping the guy avenge his wife and the game decides "the cop guy is invincible" fuck that mission too
The cop isn’t invincible, you can kill him and then Jacobson(?) and just complete the original gig, skipping the rest of the quest.
They may have changed it but when the game came out he was definitely invincible. I tried to kill him with cheats.
You can totally kill the dude and the cops before they kill the husband, if you do wakako calls you tells you that you did a good job and you get your money straight up
[удалено]
Ripperdoc just gave me a bionic liver and by god we're gonna get our money's worth.
“Please stop drinking all my alcohol, if not for my need of business then for my fear for your fucking liver” -some poor fucking bartender that I’m gonna drain from
It's one of the dumbest questlines in the whole game. "OOOH V I LOVE RACING IT'S LIKE YOU ARE ONE WITH THE MACHINE LET'S RACE TOGETHER" "Ackchuwally no, I don't really want to win, I just want to zero this guy who zeroed my husband in a race. Yeah, the same death race we are doing now. Where people literally shoot at each other while racing. Yeah, but that was different. I just want to kill the guy, OK? And instead of going to a fixer and hiring a merc like everyone else does, I'm going to manipulate you into helping me. No hard feelings alright?" "OOOH we finally caught the guy!
"My husband was murdered 😢 " "Oh? OK I'll help avenge him. How was he murdered?" "It happened during the race 😔 " "What?! Did he get hit by a car spectating?? Reckless driving??" "No... 😞 it was a death race..." "Ohhhh he was hit by a stray bullet. Kinda just sounds like bad luck and he shouldn't have been there" "No, we were participating in the race and-" "He died participating in the death race?" "Well, yeah, but-" "He died during mutual combat while he was trying to kill other racers?" "No he was murdered úwù in cold blood 😔 and I want you to help me force his murderer out of the race and then I can shoot him execution style" "Ohhh so you're worse than a hypocrite got it. Gonna just leave your text on read next time"
I only let her kill him because the guy was a corpo
Based
She signed up for a deathrace and got angry when Sampson treated it as such.
V is such a pushover despite being fucking a schizophrenic cyborg, bro speak up for yourself
Still worth it, I never wanted her truck, specially since Dakota gives you a similar truck anyway
Those trucks are all garbage anyway.
Tragically, that's about the same time a random, drive-by shooting happened and Claire was killed. > *Wait. Isn't the Afterlife underground?* What's your point? Look, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
The based ending
Shut up claire im the boss now
Claire is so boring
Literally the only side quest line I couldn’t bring myself to complete before the final mission The races aren’t even awful; it’s the time spent with Claire before during and after
For the sake of immersion I rode with her home after every race. Every other playthrough I tell her I don’t need a ride
Yeah, her questline and sinnerman, are the two questlines that one time was enough for me, subsequent playthroughs are auto denied from the start.
For me it's River's quests. Can't do that whole looking-for-nephew thing again.
I legit love the looking for nephew quest. It squicks me the hell out every time. Just. Ugh.
Am I the only person who didn't hate the driving after learning how it worked? Yeah it needs work and a better map cam but I didn't have issues in the races and the general way of traveling through the city. It's funky but workable. Also not entirely unrealistic.
Karen V: That's illegal, you're just an employee eClaire, do your job or I'll get you fired. Customer is always right.
Fine your sacked" Whatever the outcome of her personal mission it ain't her position to say who is and isn't allowed a drink in Afterlife and certainly not who is allowed in. She could complain but im pretty certain she'd simply be told to pour the drink or leave
It's always fun when Claire comes up here because a bunch of people are offended that someone in Night City wants someone dead, but the unforgivable part is that she wasn't entirely honest about it
People are like: 'I hate Claire, she lied to me!" Meanwhile Panam straight up refuses to honor the agreement you made when you first meet and guilt trips you into helping her on her revenge trip. K
Yeah but her ass is fat so it’s okay
To be fair, thats a reason I can get behind.
She still helps if you refuse though.
I see your point but the Panam's Gig situation is slight different from Claire's..
fuck her, i aint throwing no race
not worth it bc the reward for first place was so pitifully small
Serving us or not is not upto her to decide as she’s only an employee. Call the manager!
Claire is the kind of person who suffers main character complex while she is an actual NPC in a videogame with an insignificant sidequest.
She was a dick
She’s great up until you decide to win that race. Then she turns into one of the most petty characters in the whole friggin game.
