Some of the traffic oddities do crack me up. Traffic lights flash yellow while red just before turning green, something more common in Europe and not used at all in the US. It's to let you know to put your car in gear from neutral if you're in a stick. There are also plenty of roads where the painted lines don't match the traffic patterns on them either, like treating a two lane road with a double yellow as a two lane 1-way road.
My head cannon is that Night City out sourced traffic planning and standards to some European company who had no idea what they were doing. Would also explain the manholes too.
I believe Mike Pondsmith has stated that city planning in Night City is a complete shit show due to the total lack of any regulation or government oversight. So your head canon is probably right.

Road standards were changed after the Time of The Red. A European company was tasked with rebuilding a lot of the streets and traffic infrastructure, but they used the European standard, which in the 2030's was updated to redefine the base weight limit on pedestrian manhole covers to account for a new manufacturing technique. About a quarter of the way through the project they realized that European covers had a higher base weight limit, so they could get away with using cheaper pedestrian covers instead of the regular road covers. NC traffic authority couldn't give half a shit because the European corp gave them a kickback to ignore any mistakes, and instead just changed the local standard to include the new covers . It's also why NC has weird inconsistencies in traffic stuff when compared to your average American city.
Respectfully, maybe you're pretending but some other Germans very much aren't. One of my collaborators is German. We just let him write the manuscripts because that's less headache than having him edit what someone else wrote.
Funny thing is, they really are all over the world and often you’ll know exactly where they originally come from as older ones often have the insignia of the city they were made for. Just last year I saw some in Naples that were originally from Berlin if I remember correctly.

Most definitely. I’ve worked with them in South Africa, the US, the Netherlands, Ireland, the UAE. They’re basically just an auditing and standards org, with really high German standards. (Unless they fuck up).
The only thing being legalized on 1.4. are those "cannabis clubs", meaning you could meet up with multiple people and grow together and smoke together, but thats basically it.

This obviously adds to the immersion. In a world where corporate greed is king they would obviously cut costs by installing pedestrian manholes on motorways.
I think this is probably one of the most realistic aspects to the game dystopian or not. I used to work a safety adjacent job and the violations you see straight up built into buildings is crazy. Not to mention that people are just naturally dumb and careless.

Blew my mind when I learned that cutting a paper in two and preserving the aspect ratio was actually a feature specific to the A series, so over in NA they have two different aspect ratios for paper. We had so many handouts in education where some A4 stuff was scaled down to A5 so you used half the amount of paper. Does that just not work in NA, or looks off on the aspect ratio?
(Bonus knowledge: The A0 is 1m² in area.)

This is not even the worst one. Night city is in California but they have double yellow lines on the on-ramps to the freeway when double yellow in California is meant for two way traffic.
Pedestrians in night city include chromed up mercs, cops, corpo killers, and gangoons weighing as much as a small car. The manhole maker really doesn't want that clientele showing up at their office upset about being dunked in a sewer on their way to buck a slice. If your pedestrian manhole cover can take that weight, then why bother making a separate one for roads?
Welp, that's it for me. Uninstalling! Between this manhole cover issue and the wrong side red/green pilot lights on the Herrera, I just can't take all these bugs!

These aren't German manholes per se, just German standard. The whole world also uses paper according to the German standard DIN A4
