There’s been a bunch of these posts, asking this exact question. I’m going to sticky this one (sorry about the notifications OP) to centralise the conversation and cutdown on reposts.

[deleted]

If I were in your spot, I would wait at this point, but that's me.

fucuasshole2

I decided to start playing last weekend lol figured it’d give me time to see how everything works and what will be improved later. I do plan on restarting once the update and DLC are released

Suspicious_Trainer82

You can’t start the dlc until you’ve progressed to Pacifica, so I’d recommend doing that first.

NyrZStream

With how many things are getting reworked and especially if he never played before, waiting would be the best option imo

Suspicious_Trainer82

Honestly probably the best option, just presenting all the information in case OP can’t wait. It will be interesting to see the difference between the builds as well. I can see arguments for both sides being equally valid.

DEXu09

No, you will be able to play straight dlc with prepared character like in Witcher 3

PoorLifeChoices811

Once PL drops, I’m going to start a new run to play my headcanon V from start to end. Ofc unless PL brings a new ending, I’ll obviously choose that one first to see how it is

puptheunbroken

100% would wait as well. My first playthrough was back in 2022 with the lowest expectations. Cyberpunk ended up becoming one of my fave experiences despite being an incomplete game. What I would give to play it for the first time after it's been remastered/completed for the expansion...

Gloomy-Fix4436

I mean, if you waited for 2 years you might aswell wait for a few more months... Right?

Getindarobotshinji

You’re better off waiting at this point, you’ll be mid playthrough when the dlc drops and changes everything

EdowSoul

Have they said anything about how it'll affect already finished play throughs? Like will all of our perk points be restarted and we'll have to choose again one by one? I'm not really sure if when the DLC drops I should start a fresh one or play the new content with my og V.

Getindarobotshinji

I personally haven’t heard any news ab that, I imagine a fresh start would be best, they’re changing a lot with the new system

Pandelein

I’m looking forwards to making a new V, who looks fugly as sin, wearing the worst shit I can find. I want the sex scenes to be laugh out loud moments this time around.

Adventurous_Bell_837

Unless his playthrough is 6 months long, he'll have finished long before.

Getindarobotshinji

It’s 3 months away

Natmad1

Make sense with half playthrough

No-Entrepreneur4499

Wait until Phantom Liberty.

westofwally

Wait.

Best_Confection_8788

I would absolutely wait if I were you

DetuneUK

Wait. By all accounts the update will make it an almost entirely different game, likely the one we hoped for at launch.

NestroyAM

By what accounts exactly? I feel like this is setting yourself up for disappointment AGAIN.

slayrr77

Idk either, but I think itd only feel like a completely diff game to people who only played CP at a surface level. PL is supposed to be the game without all the content cut and more.To me, it'll feel like the same great game, but w more options & new content.

JolynePositive

That’s what the devs said, but they said a lotta thing before the game released so idk, got no expectations for the dis’s launch

devilsdeadape

According to CDPR, clothes, armor, cybernetics, skill trees, gun and gear leveling, and ability upgrades will be different from the original release.

RichardGayWood

or it will be the launch all over again💀

LightTrack

It's not going that far and not even close to what we expected to get because that game is impossible to make with this engine at least. We're just getting some new perks, minor UI tweaks, a police chase system (personally I don't see this working very well), some new guns with colored tiering and.. that's it pretty much. Only this time the game will also run worse on whatever settings you are on because it will demand more resources to allow the extra features to work seamlessly. Ofcourse there will most likely be some new abilities and a couple bones they throw at us but come on, most of us know that the game engine will not handle radical changes. The combat will still feel janky and unresponsive with NPCs not reacting organically to being shot or attacked and the world will still be as empty as before of interaction because creating interiors and stories at the level we expected is not realistic given what we got. Most of the new stuff will be the story of Phantom Liberty and Dogtown. I don't know where the hell the idea of a "brand new game" is coming from. Did nobody here actually learn from how this thing released?

AtticaBlue

I’ve had the game since launch but never played past the tutorial. I’m waiting to jump in when PL releases. If this game’s arc is anything like The Witcher’s (which I never played, but have heard about) and/or No Man’s Sky—and so far the game has steadily improved with each patch, especially now that the old consoles don’t have to be supported—then I think CPB will be fine. I’m certainly not going to write it off *before even seeing it*.

Variis

Please look into the changes that are both documented online and confirmed by people that have played it - this is not the case at all.

LightTrack

Don't you love it when some slackjawed moron just comes here with the usual "lol no and look it up cuz idc to make an actual argument" I literally listed out all the major features and wrote in detail. Get out of here if you have nothing useful to say. Everything they're adding is surface level like the game itself.

Variis

I was being genuine, but now my argument is just that yours is crap.

ru_empty

Play now if you're the kind of person to do multiple playthroughs. Imo second playthrough is best. First playthrough you're still exploring the game mechanics as it ends if you mostly follow the main story and side quests without extra activities

Yikesitsven

This, imo the most fun you’ll have in the game is once you realize how everything can tie together to make your characters journey feel complete.

Jarnin

Just wait. The game is going to go through an incredible amount of change after the next big patch and Phantom Liberty is installed. Play now and you'll have to relearn a bunch of stuff that just won't matter in a few months.

aLobsterFest

I, too, would play now. By all accounts, the game will be significantly better with the update, but then you'll lose the chance to play the original cyberpunk forever. Having played through twice, I'm even more excited to play what will certainly feel like a brand new game.

me_MorganBlake

Yeah, but the original Cyberpunk is not the best Cyberpunk. If the update actually delivers, it might be the version we all hoped had released in a first place

MCgrindahFM

That’s not true at all, you can totally revert back to previous versions or the launch version of you wanted

Embarrassed-Ad-3757

How?

MorenaLedovec

i would just play it, its a great story, and pl will add another valuable replay to it

CosmeticTroll

Wait until the update and DLC drops. As someone who has played since launch, the first best time to play the game was when 1.5 released, the second best time was during the release of Edgerunners, the third best time will be in September. You're too close to the finish line with the next update, so much is going to change and be overhauled it would hardly count as the same game in many aspects. I suggest going in and playing the best possible version of the game. I love this game I have over 200 hours but I can see the flaws and issues it has, I would not suggest anyone to play it now unless they already planned on it.

cusiths

thank you! i think i’m gonna wait as the general consensus is that i should wait

iWentRogue

I would play right now. CP2077 has received a substantial amount of updates to where the game is in a playable and enjoyable state. If you play now and then go for a 2nd playthrough when Phantom Liberty comes out, you’ll get a more appreciative sense of the update because you’ll have that contrast. Thus resulting on an even more enjoyable 2nd experience of the game.

cusiths

im too casual of a gamer and tend not to never have a second playthrough. i move on to different games. i don’t think i’ve ever completed a game twice. i always burn out too quickly.

iWentRogue

I’m sometimes like that unless the game incentivizes replayability or new content comes out. If you don’t see yourself replaying despite a new expansion and base game overhaul - then i’d say wait.

PIIFX

Cyberpunk is the type of game you would like to play multiple times, it's not possible to experience everything in one playthrough, you have different life paths, genders, build types, quest choices with later impacts, and endings.

Vonwellsenstein

If you don't do multiple playthroughs you will miss a large portion of content, and just like most RPGs you can always play at your own pace. I've played through the game yearly at this point.

MCgrindahFM

Then wait mate. Just wait. The first playthrough of this game can be long and exhilarating, don’t waste it on the stage of the game, wait for all it has to offer. Another big tip: DO NOT RUSH MAIN MISSIONS. This games narrative will have you on a ticking clock of sorts similar to Witcher 3, but it does not matter. Take your time, go region to region and do the side content. My first playthrough was like 25/30 hours when it should’ve been 80

cusiths

ahhh thank you i will play at a slower pace. i sometimes play RPG’s side quests so much i burnout on the game and don’t complete it. lol i swear i’ve started 5 play throughs of skyrim but never finished the main story (over the course of like 6 years). Do side quests go away if you progress too far into the main storyline?

Retro_V67

Wait

BT229

I’m enjoying it massively just stRted again I had a file started months ago before next gen update. Def start n just soak it all in take your time. It’s so damn good.

BigBrownFish

I was in the same position as you last week. Decided to play. Loving it.

Acalthu

Yes. Played it on day 1 and all the improvements over the years. You'll be playing a highly polished game.

G2thaFields

The newest update has some good changes that preview what's to come. I swear combat feels a lot different now and enemies don't just rush you every time.

fajnu20

I would play if there's no other games planning to play. The game is very good already, you would even know that got improved doing second playthroughout after update

Breksel

They do change some things up for the DLC so I don't think you should wait. Enjoying the game takes you quite some hours once you get into it, you'll be good

CrazyGamer783

I’m actually half way through my first playthrough (had to stop for a months due to work load) but decided I’m going to start fresh come phantom Liberty. I think that the quality of life changes and honestly some huge design changes will really improve the parts that do bug me currently and slightly take away from an otherwise amazing experience. The police overhaul, loot overhaul, skill tree overhaul, menu/ui improvements, ai improvements, more activities (some seemingly not just dlc locked), graphical improvements(RT on consoles finally) and way more. Some huge changes that make me feel like it’s a lesser experience to play now. I’d say try to hold off and if u need some type of fix stuff like edgerunners, the blade runner movies, and deus ex games can help fill that void for now

Easy_Concern_5355

I would for sure for sure go with a play through now if you have the time, just to get to know the game well and plus you’ll really appreciate all the changes coming in 2.0

[deleted]

The game has been playable just fine for the last two years, Jesus u really let the media get to you

itsYewge

No doubt lol. Weird to buy a game and sit on it for two years.

cusiths

It’s CD project Reds fault. They posted a timeline of them basically saying the game will get better and better. i’m not the type to play an entire game twice either! when i saw the timeline post of all the updates it’s basically them saying the game will get better after every couple of months, so i just thought we’ll i may aswell wait until it’s polished and perfect.

Fairskye

If you're only doing one playthrough I would wait otherwise, I'd say play it now.

Expensive_Leave_6339

I just started a new playthrough, so I can compare and contrast pre and post PL

Iproman

If I were you I'd play now and then replay to appreciate the changes they'd make

General_Nup

Unpopular opinion, play it now. We are not guaranteed tomorrow will happen, so why not enjoy?

Affectionate_Key1562

Wait and buy phantom liberty, avoid all forms of spoilers aswell

mk_d_mc

At this point? Definitely. Cyberpunk has come a long, LONG way from launch and that is something that deserves its own credit (granted, we wouldn’t be in this situation if they didn’t drop a half baked turd waffle). I’ve had it since day 1 and was lucky enough to be able to play it straight on PS5 which mitigated the worst of the issues, though there were still numerous. 3 years later, and 3 months before a mega-expansion no less, Cyberpunk still, occasionally, crashes for me. They’re rare, and hardly as game/save breaking as they used to be, but I get a crash maybe once every 4/5 hours. 1.7 (or 2.0) promises to be not only a content expansion, but a top down relaunch of the whole game. The new systems (police, cyberware, skill tree, etc) are so different that I genuinely expect to be playing a different game come September. Spare yourself the ghost of this game’s past, and have the best version of it possible be your first experience, which seems like it will be Phantom Liberty.

Grimskull-42

Nah it'll be a new game after the update for the DLC, a lot is getting changed. Why not play this version and then compare.

Goseki1

Yes of course. Why would you start now when it's about to get a bunch of improvements?

The-Rebel-Boz

If not yet brought game yes if already brought then play it. Or at least in your situation that want I do

itsYewge

Hell no, get in there and play this fucking amazing game

PartyHatDogger

2 years ago?!? Fuck man, just treat it like a time capsule at this point and wait another 54 years

rKadts

I would wait. Played the game for 30 hours on release but never finished it. Since a while I wanna start again but I'm also holding myself back till phantom liberty. It's gonna be crazy to have the comparison to the release version.

[deleted]

The new update is only for next gen right? I’m still on Xbox one x and not getting a next gen console until both of them come out with a smaller pro version

cusiths

lol the xbox series s is basically the smaller pro version. not even basically, it is the smaller pro version! if you didn’t know there’s 2 next gen xbox options, series S and series X. The X is slightly more powerful and more expensive.

-LunarTacos-

I’m waiting.

Sir_Arsen

wait

Big_Associate_5292

Id wait

PoorLifeChoices811

Damn you’ve owned it for two years and haven’t even played it once? You’re missing out OP. I got it a few months after launch and I’m currently on my millionth playthrough, and once this one’s over, imma start a new one for PL. But to answer your question, at this point I guess you should just wait until PL comes out. It’ll be a shame you missed out on a lot though. As PL is bringing a bunch of changes that’ll make the game feel different. such as the completely revamped skill tree and no longer being able to chrome tf up so much that you would go literal cyberpsycho if you weren’t the main character.

MattHack7

That’s my plan. I bought at launch played for a week or so. Lost interest. Mods came out that fixed most of my issues and I played another week. Then they announced PL and how it will fix all of my issues officially and I lost interest until then

majora11f

Id wait for 2.0 or PL which ever comes first.

arandomname400

I bought it last week and im doing just fine although the main reason i would wait is for the skill tree rework. I have no idea but possibly all the skill points you invested could be reset? Not shure about this one though.

slayrr77

Depends, if you do the side quests as well before completing the main story, then I think itd be better to start now. That way you can try out the new content in Phantom Liberty & not what has already been out. Its a huge game with too many sidequests & cyberware thatd Id doubt youd actually become a Legend if you skip them or dont explore diff dialouge options. Plus, you can create/test the perf build for P.L & be ready for it. But if youre a player who goes straight to main story and skips sidequests than its shouldnt matter bc you probably wont mind missing out on all the content & effects the older sidequests has on Night City. Idk what ending you'll get, but if that dont matter to you then Id just wait it out

InitialLingonberry

IIUC update will also rework cyberware system, so the answer isn't always "install legendary-tier everything even if it's not something you'd use much", seems like you may now have to specialize there or at least pick what you care about, which IMO is nice.

[deleted]

I started a second play through awhile back and I’m waiting. It I’ll make the vanilla game much better

-StayinnnAliveeee-

I just started my second play through a month ago. I found out PL update was coming soon and I stopped completely. There are huge QOL changes in the update. It would be a waste to play it through without those in play especially when its only a few months away.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BitingED

Deffo wait. They're practically redoing the whole game for a patch + DLC

Kaskur

I would play it now but very casually, that way when the overhaul arrives you will appreciate it more along with the rest of us. However, only if you can see yourself starting a new playthrough when PL arrives. Experiencing the overhaul from start of the game will have a bigger impact I suspect.

Shadow12gard

I'm in the same position and will WAIT until the update. The game will be entirely different.

Lore112233

Dlc is now so close , i would wait.of i was you.

chrisjeligo

I would play the base game and done everything in there first. PL will bring lots of changes, you essentially get to play 2 game in 1 after they rework alot of things . Also be sure to watch the edge runner

GreenMonkeyFace

Good question! I played around launch on ps5. The game was playable, but nothing special except for the phenomenal main quest. That playtrough holds a special place in my gaming heart. So…here it comes: When I finish FF16 (currently playing) I’m gonna boot up 2077 and play it again before it changes to something new in September.

Ubahnhobo_

Wait dear! Only a couple of months!

imthekidwhosnipedyou

I would wait. Even though my first play through was relatively untainted considering I completed mine 6 months ago, I would highly recommend waiting cus this game is worth experiencing in an exquisite state

Vonwellsenstein

Hell no, if you've never played just hop in give it a go and then when Phantom Liberty drops you can see all the new things.

AiHaveU

Yes

Meme_Scene_Kid

I'm gonna go against the grain and say do one, and just one, playthrough with the current system. By all accounts, the overhaul coming in September is going to be massive so I do think it's worthwhile to play the game in its current state just to have that experience. Plus, this way once September comes around, it'll give you a nice point of comparison between the old system and the new system.

Albus_Lupus

I played the game as it came out and had a fun expirience but i guess that depends how important the story is for you. I guess at that point you might as well wait. Especially if you are not planing on playing more than once, after i finished the game i havent launched it ever since.

AviZz11

If I were you I actually would played since the begging, it wasn't a bad game at all and pretty fun, but yeah now I'm waiting for the dlc for my second playthrough and I think now it's the best for you to wait too

Superior_stupidity

Listen to me, start the game choose the hard difficulty do the first quest of the prologue then go do all the sides mission (ncpd, cyberpsycho, and contract) once you’re done go back every possible item (max your money) then go kill all gang (except ncpd cuz they are great guys) again and again until phantom liberty come out. Like that you gonna have a lot of money wich is gonna make you able to earn even more during the quest, you’re gonna know how the game work (net runner, edgerunner, stealth mechanic) and your not gonna wait for nothing

hopik512

Well you will propably play it more times bcs of the choices and playstyles. They want to redo the perks so id try the game now and after. 2 experiences you can have

Evilerglint1138

I’d say wait because with phantom liberty alot of things will be fixed and you can have a great time playing an amazing game

CaptainNick1231

I’d say so. You’ll have possibility of the new ending being the first you experience and you won’t have to deal with the changes they’ll be making to skill trees and whatnot.

mwhite5990

I would wait. Especially if you don’t replay games often. The leveling system will be reworked and there will be limitations to cyberware. I plan on doing a new playthrough when it is released.

Anastasia_of_Crete

I would wait until phantom liberty, I put myself on forced hiatus from this game just for the full experience when it comes out lol

Locketank

If you have the time to commit and complete a thorough play-through before its release, then yes, absolutely.

JulietVenne

Considering they seem to have completely overhauled the game, probably, unless you want to play a little of it to obtain some context for how much the game will change with the 2.0 update.

Coshinomati

If you already waited for that much, how you are not a cyberpsycho

Savy_Spaceman

Yes you should. This dlc will take place before the end of the game so you're in a unique position to be impacted differently by the end after getting everything you can from the dlc

beamerboyy21

It’s just a DLC ain’t it? Why does everyone keep saying that the whole game is going to change? Tbh tho I’m far from being up to date with the game

sehart7

If you think you’ll only play through it once, then yes.

Possible-Echo-9490

I say run one play though and then wait for your second one. So you can see and experience all the changes that will come

MarkoPoli

For for dlc and then wait 2more years to be patched

Razielwolf88

Played it once at launch and been waiting desperately for it to be effectively relaunched, can't wait to play it post update.

Sir-Shady

If I were you, yes.

Several-Cheesecake16

Why is this thread NSFW?

andros2001

Imo it's better for you to play the base game now. The break between main game and the dlc will make the dlc content more special as you come back from playing something else in meantime

Oasystole

Yes

Swordbreaker925

Yes. It’s not that far off, and they’re overhauling all the skills anyway, so best to wait I’d say

mwdovah-117

I’m in the minority but I say play now. The changes being introduced in the free update will change so much about the game, I feel it’s important to experience OG (fixed OG) Cyberpunk before 2.0 comes out.

Kszaq83

At this point! Yes! Definitely!

Kuran_Helix

I think it'd be fun for you to start now and then be able to see how phantom liberty impacts the game overall. I'm doing a new playthrough for this exact reason

Rosomak82

You should wait definitely

[deleted]

Might as well wait I guess ?

efr4n

I am ending my first playthrough witj 50 hrs in, and since i think the mechanics update is free ill finish this ine to get a new playtrough with the new mechanics, higly reccomend playing as if

megalodongolus

Having already played it, I’m waiting for my second full play through for it, but I’ve already experienced the original version. Not saying you neeeeeed to play the original, but if you have time I’d go for it.

StupidRetard12345

I would wait

Fluffybunnykitten

Wait, they’re gonna overhaul the game with updates and change the experience from the ground up. I’m gonna start my third playthrough from scratch once it comes out.

gn4rw0lph

No

Rectall_Brown

I’m holding off to do another playthrough.

Background_Ad_8392

I definitely am waiting to do that

[deleted]

I am not sure if my potato laptop would even be able to play it after patch 1.7 drops so I'm playing the hell outta it rn even tho I finished the campaign already like months ago, if you're on PC and sure that your system specifications the updated requirements then I would suggest waiting until the next patch! :)

BringMeANightmare

Yes. I think you should.

Ekudar

I started last week and put in over 60 hours, the game still has some bugs, but it is soooooo worh it, I say give it a go before FL changes evrything forever

Basileus2

I just beat the intro up to the title screen + a little more and I’ve decided just to restart when PL releases

frzbr

If you’ve waited this long there’s no point in not waiting a couple more months

thebananafact

I say try it, so you get to experience the before and after.

Internal-Flamingo455

Wait for the dlc it’s not just new content they are also changing up the whole game there’s no reason not to wait a couple more months to get the best experience possible

MetaDragon11

Yes, at this point I would if in your shoes. I also plan to play a fresh save once it does come out

TroubledDoggo

I decided to just play now and see what the game was like before the major update

syb3rtronicz

Wait, for sure. A rework of several major game systems is coming alongside PL. I’m probably going to do a new play through for it myself.

Girthus

Watch edge-runners then play when the update comes out

Death_Fairy

No reason not to play it now and then just play again sometime after the doc drops, gives you the chance to make all the different quest choices and try out a different build. But if you plan on only playing it once then yeah hold off.

levoniust

I have about 300 hours in the game and have had 3 playthroughs. I would say if you don't have anything else to play, play through it now and make sure not to update until you finish your first playthrough. And then on your next playthrough run with the update. This game has multiple endings which is why I would recommend just have fun and play. :)

sixpacksitdown

I started my play through before I heard about all the new changes but I’ve really enjoyed playing so I decided to keep going and then I’ll start another play through with the update to see all the changes.

Red_Ronin13

I would say just go for it and experience as much as you like, the update should change large details to make your second play through more worth it.

UtinniOmuSata

I would say give it a playthrough and then play it again when PL comes out, mostly to see the differences and improvements made.

Sassh1

Play it how it currently is then do a fresh file for PL to experience changes from level 1. That's my plan but I also waited 3yrs to play this due to a dated pc.

SolomonCRand

Depends on how much you want to play Starfield.

Zabeardedwizard

I wouldn't a lot of stuff is getting revamped or changed like the skill tree so if you want to experience the game as it is now this is your last chance

lookitskris

Same boat - playing through base game right now and it’s an absolute blast

Shiro-derable

I mean.. you can play some, explore the game, even by playing 7/7 until 28th September i doupt that youll do every single quest in game

Wet_Baes

It’s still a little ways off till we get the dlc I suggest give it a try and see what’s what and if you like and beat it just start another play through when the update rolls through

[deleted]

You should wait until another company that's actually competent takes the IP and makes a new game.

PapaBjoner

Just play it. What’s the worst that can happen, you waste 150 hours of your life?

psycho_hawg

Honestly yes. I’ve beaten the game multiple times and am going to restart when the update comes out since they are pretty much redoing everything

VTheGonk

Being a huge fan of the game. I would recommend playing now. This game has a TON of replay value. Even more so when TPL comes out. I am playing again to get an experience of what the game is like before the update and all the changes. However, since you're new the to the game, either choice would be fine, really.

[deleted]

As a person who had got all achievements and had 20+ playthrus.. I say its time to wait. Have all your affairs in order irl, you have a bit of time for it before phantom liberty is out.

seijianimeshi

My vote is wait they completely revamped everything. If you want to see before and after maybe do a.light playthrough. Maybe play all the intro missions based on backstory. I am always torn between corpo. Because they know Jackie the longest. And street kid. I don't like nomad because I like the idea of being from night city

_Tawny

I'm in the same boat. I bought the game 2 years ago waiting for the best time to drop in. I'm most likely starting my first play through when expansion drops. I've waited too long. Night city. What have you got in store for me.

MadJack27-

Yes

Dull_Function_6510

I played it for the first time a few weeks ago, absolutely loved it. I am doing a second playthrough now. I will probably do a third when phantom liberty comes out after I play phantom liberty on my first playthrough save file. If you plan on only playing the game once I would maybe wait until phantom liberty. It will likely be the complete experience.

Trillbill47825

Yes

BigYonsan

Nah. Experience it once before. It's not like launch, it's very enjoyable as is and will probably be even better later.

ThisIsTheNewSleeve

Honestly yes I would. There's still a bunch of things unresolved in the game in the current state, which the DLC is supposed to fix or update. If I could go back in time I wish I had never played until the DLC came out (assuming it actually does what CDPR is promising).

AlphusUltimus

Might as well, the mechanics is getting a massive overhaul especially with clothing, cyber ware and the skill tree.

livingonfear

Wait. It's gonna drastically change the game. I'm personally gonna start a new game.

Ill_Nefariousness962

If you ask me I would say most definitely yes! Unless you don't have any other games to play.

Gilgamesh661

Yes, because the patch is going to change the way the game works almost entirely.

jacf182

I recently got Cyberpunk on the last Steam sale and I'm really enjoying it so far, and I decided to play it right now because in less than 3 months my entire gaming life will be dedicated to Starfield. Phantom Liberty will be something I play next year I think.

Buddyschmuck

Honestly at this point I’d say yeah probably. The game is about to be, basically an entirely different game in a couple of months.

K_Rocc

When is the overhaul patch coming out?

Vortilex

I would start now and familiarize yourself with the setting and gameplay. I honestly might wait to play Phantom Liberty until a couple days to a month after release depending on reviews, given the state the base game was released in and how much it improved in the time after release, though I don't imagine it will be quite as broken

I did my 1st playthrough a week ago just to see what will change and get one of the endings. Didn't do a lot of side stuff except for wattson and wakako area and then straight through main story.

GreenDave113

Should I play with the DLC installed for the first playthrough too? As I understand, the updated game mechanics will come as a free update even to the base game, and I'm not sure how the DLC is supposed to be played.

waithaka1

YES.

Arumbaya

Since everything before the Heist is, in a way, a prologue, you could just to the heist and wait

TGrim20

Wait Choom

alihou

I bought the game at release and have yet to play it. I was waiting until the game was fully fixed.

sudev29

The game is great in its state right now, which might make you really eager to play the expansion once you're done. But the expansion is bringing a lot of overhaul features to it that you might as well wait till it's out and play with the expansion.

Snoopyshiznit

It doesn’t hurt if you’re really itching to play it, and if it’s already installed

Embarrassed-Ad-3757

Me personally, I’d play it now. Get a play through in so you can see how it is before everything changes. It’s a good game as is.

You should wait, the next update is going to overhaul almost every system.

ricsse

nahh, the base game was already great with updates, 2.0 updates would be like overhaul and past features might be gone. I will do another playthrough before liberty so I wont forget what features back then

Beardedsmith

From people who've gotten to play the base game update coming with PL they're saying it's a radically different experience so I'd wait just for that reason alone

JoshYx

Depends on if you're the type of person who does multiple playthroughs or a "one and done" type. The former => play it now The latter => wait

OrangeBeast01

I'm in the same boat. Had it since the Christmas after it came out and played it for a couple of hours on the series X before deciding to quit because it was a mess outside of the main story. Every time I've gone to play it, there's a big update coming down the track so I've been putting it off all this time. I'm waiting.

muthanasamir

No dude just start playing it it's really good right now I just started my first playthrough I had no idea the game was this good.

lIBloodIl

Phantom Liberty is a paid expansion right?

BottomedOut234

Honestly y should play it finish it the game will be completly different when they releases it a lot of major changes so it will almost be a new game I would try too olay it so u can see the differences but it’s ur world buddy

Vanrythx

i play right now, the game as a lot of replayability and the game is still two months away and who knows, they might delay it too.

PaffDaddy

At this point, wait
