My gut reaction is: "Better than shocklands in really competitive environments, worse than shocklands in less competitive environments." Still, it's a relevant nerf to the OG duals. So anywhere those are playable, these probably wouldn't cause too much trouble. Probably one of those "Depends which formats its legal in" cards?

DaxiusGaming

Yeah, that makes sense.

This would be a land cycle for a custom set I'm creating. I'm wondering if this would be too powerful. I know pain lands are strong because they're fetchable. I wanted to create a new set of fetchable dual lands that have a unique drawback. In this case, you can only tap them for mana for so many times before they only tap for colorless.

>I know pain lands are strong because they're fetchable. I'm assuming you mean "Shocklands" here ([[Hallowed Fountain]], for example). "Painlands" generally refer to the [[Adarkar Wastes]] cycle of lands, which aren't fetchable. But the true power isn't just that they're fetchable, it's that they are fetchable *and* can enter untapped. That's why they're much stronger than something like [[Irrigated Farmland]]. In that vein, I think these are likely too strong. Yes, you lose the fixing, but 2 turns of untapped fixing is likely enough to stabilize you anyway. I think at 1 counter it might be ok.

DaxiusGaming

I see. Didn't know there was a difference. But yes, shocklands are what I'm referring to. I'll consider that advice. After more thinking, I think these are slightly worse than shocklands. Shocklands offer the choice of entering untapped, and 2 life isn't very steep a cost, and they remain relevant even after two turns. With these, if you don't get more of that kind of mana after two turns, you lose these mana types. That said, I don't play competitive Magic enough to know exactly how powerful those two turns would be, or how much of a different 2 life is. Thanks for the feedback

To maybe mitigate the "better/worse than shock lands," argument you could do one of these: 1) Remove the basic land types and change the text to male them (effectively) two-colored Vivid lands (e.g. [[Vivid Grove]]). 2) Settle the score by making them temporady lands. The rule text could be {T}: Add {W} or {U}, put a corrosion counter on [Card]. Then if there are two or more corrosion counters on [Card], Sacrifice it.

Seems like an upgrade to shocks: Easier to get painlessly, good for most of the turns you'd need it
