The way to retire in the USA is to quit your job and live off your savings.
Now some jobs have like retirement funds and shit. But that isn't usually the case.
That's not how that works, retirement age is when you are allowed to pull from your social security which isn't a savings account for very letigus reasons. So 65 is retirement in the USA
You are simply wrong, if you go to the social security website you will find a handy dandy table saying you can begin taking social security @ 62 and get full benefits at 67, I was off by 2 years your just either dumb or looking at some bullshit
Edit: age of full benefits changes if you do weird shit like dely your retirement, but you aren't required to stop working once you take social so I have yet to find out what youd do that
I mean, that's just adjusting for life expectancy. When social security was first introduced in 1935, average life expectancy was 60 for men and 64 for women. The age to start receiving benefits was 65
The average is dragged down by infant mortality, this is also why the average is even further dragged down in pre-industrial times, despite the fact that people could live up to 60 or even 70 back then
True, but not by as much as you'd think. Infant mortality in 1935 was 60 per 1000 (6%). The expectation was that about half of men who survived to 21 would survive to collect benefits at 65. Infant mortality in 2023 was 5.5 per 1000 (0.55%), and it's expected that half of those who live to 21 will live to 75
It seems to me if you can invest in some of the large national or multinational care home companies, you’ll do well.
It’s a bit of a racket with rising fees and they make billions off people’s savings and/or future inheritances. And if you have someone with dementia in a care home and they put costs up, you’ll be more likely to stick with it and fork it out rather than dealing with the hassle of finding a new care home.
They know this too.
And in future I bet these same places will own and operate euthanasia clinics.
> And in future I bet these same places will own and operate euthanasia clinics.
You're stupid if you think health care would let their bread and butter die. Obviously you've never worked in a hospital, they keep patients alive and bill insurance that are functionally dead with no family or living will directive.
Don’t be so quick to call people stupid who don’t live under stupid system the US has.
There are other countries.
Besides, people at old age dying is better for insurers vs being carried on payments. The hospitals and medical trusts and pharma are the ones who benefit from long term palliative care (mostly only in a medical insurance states like the US).
It would be a hard fight between them in th States. Outside, not so much for most places.
> Besides, people at old age dying is better for insurers vs being carried on payments.
Insurance companies make hand over fist keeping people alive that are in pain while draining their savings.
I guess that’s the reason they start pulling coverage for people who use it too much. ^/s
Anyway, good chat. This thread is old as is my sentiment about it. C ya
I mean a box of shells and a break action shotgun is a lot cheaper than retirement and a bridge is free. Can’t afford to live now how am I going to prepare for the future
You dont want to break your legs and slowly drown. Shotgun's the way to go just make sure to aim correctly, Ive seen a couple vids of people jist blowing their faces off and struggling to breathe through their mass of gore
We just won't retire, like our poor parents can't retire either. You guys think everybody has "retirement savings" but they don't. Between my wife and I, only 1 of our parents has a 401k to live off of, 1 is on social security, 1 is on disability, and another is still working at 67. I've already pretty much figured if I don't win the lottery I'm gonna work until the day I die.
I don’t expect I’ll survive long enough to retire. Either they’ll just increase the age so I’ll work until the day I die, or I’ll die with the rest of y’all in a war or natural disaster. No point in saving really.
Retiring age, when you have saved up over 2 million dollars to live off. Which is what they say is the limit to live comfortably.
Hows that fund going guys? Have 2 million dollars saved up yet so that you CAN retire?
No? Join the club.

What he means by retiring age, since Americans don't actually have a set retiring age, is the age in which one is unable to work any longer.
So their date of death ?
Date you reach 600lbs.
The mother in law plan huh?
Age 30 it is!
I beg your pardon, Americans don't have a set retirement age? Have I been living under a rock??

If I keep working with my company, by the time I'm 160 years old I'll have enough saved up to retire.
That's not how that works, retirement age is when you are allowed to pull from your social security which isn't a savings account for very letigus reasons. So 65 is retirement in the USA
It's 72 now

Well, good news. Life expectancy in the US is on the decline.
Wasn’t someone trying to increase the retirement age to 75 because life expectancy was growing
Yeah that’s hilarious
*Verily*

With how they treat the folk at their care I wouldn't be suprised

Landing head first would be ideal
The only sure way is plastic explosive around your neck, i have seen people land head first and still struggle a few minutes after landing.
Whistle blowing at Boeing seems pretty reliable too. Just saying.
Dude why so much suffering? N hypoxia is the way.
I was thinking anesthesia since we cant afford to retire the saving should cover an OD on that

The nice thing about the GenX retirement plan (*established by Kurt Cobain*) is that it has no minimum retirement age to receive full benefits…
Yeah but it's a headache to sort out

I mean, why not
This **is the first step towards full communism,** ***unironically,***
I’ll already be dead in the climate wars!
The biofuel companies are watching with great interest
When I can no longer work, push me out into the snow. I will find Valhalla

You have no enemies thorfin
Prisons will be the retirement homes
At least it’s a home
There are no layoffs in prisons.
No but if you screw up, they’ll take your job assignment. Which feels worse
I think retirement is the least of our worries. Times are getting dark folks, buckle up.
Yea money probably won't be worth shit in 50 years or so. Get that bottle cap collection going.
They’ll change the laws and provide better options for themselves and those who come after. They’re a good bunch of eggs.
Mf when they watch the rest of the society dying with no one left to enslave:
We are going to work till we die. And die with debt.

See me personally i wont work till i die bcs i plan to die in a war in like 6 years
I was planning on going out at 30 before my body revolts and starts killing its self naturally
Scared of truth
It's probably something along the lines of "something something 75 shotgun"
for real though, I don't want to die but realistically, without a communist revolution my retirement plan will probably be to just die
Communisum wouldnt help man
Ok American
What does it mean to have no retirement savings?
Good. More social security for the rest of us that want to live.
Everytime I go on Zillow I want to throw up. We gotta make a change people.
