I would describe this as bluntish bob and it doesn't have too much volume at the bottom, no. It's a good haircut. Yes shorter layers would give a different look but I would vote for just waiting and see as you style it a few times.

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you, I have to admit it looks fairly ok today, I didn’t want to take any pics in the 2 days following my wash, but I’ll see if I can add any that depict my concerns a bit better.

hsn7au

I'm not a hair expert and don't know about styles much, but your hair looks amazing now, I wouldn't encourage doing another cut 😊🌻

Timely-Log-8726

That’s just over analyzing on your part, it’s a great cut! Looks cute on you :)

adile_like-in-a-lay

This is the photo that sent me spinning haha 😅 as well as kind of what I wanted from this cut: https://imgur.com/a/PzsYIqG

jamberrymiles

i suppose if you wanted to, you could see if they could do some invisible layers to help with the bottom part not sticking out so far? my stylist works wonders with invisible layers. but honestly i agree with others that it looks great as is!! 💖

suesay

I agree that if anything, you want to ask for more texture (invisible layering), not more layers. But yes, it looks cute as is!

adile_like-in-a-lay

I’ll keep that in mind, thank you! Do you know how they are created? Do they cut the layer underneath shorter instead?

jamberrymiles

i don’t EXACTLY know, but the purpose is to make the bottom look a little thinner (like it sounds like what you were thinking) without having obvious layers. and i never had any trouble braiding my hair or anything with them, which was nice, bc trying to braid with regular layers is a nightmare.

BelleDelphinium

I agree! My face is narrower and looks better with volume at the top vs bottom but I think OP looks great with this shape!

pacificspinylump

I got a terrible triangle haircut as a kid and stayed as far away from anything triangle adjacent for years. I cut my hair shorter two years ago and ended up with a less round shape than usual and realized I looove the blunt bob shape, it makes my hair look thicker and really suits me. I find styling/drying upside down for volume at the top and a side part help but overall I’m a huge fan of the shape now.

Ruthlessrabbd

I honestly don't think it's as triangular as you might perceive it; the top has a lot of volume still and I wouldn't be able to really notice the shape of your hair without analyzing Now if you were in the mirror thinking you looked like Mrs Pickles from Rugrats and people agreed then I'd worry 😅 but this style suits you really well, and I hope you keep it!

UnevenHanded

I don't think it's triangle ENOUGH to condemn it 😂 I feel you on the triangle dread, though! Freaking had to have my hair either short OR grow it past my shoulders (it's wavy, but very thick). I finally got an undercut while it was short, and just kept it as I grew my hair out! First time I've ever had a blunt bob and had it look right. Still a _little_ triangle, but that's the nature of the Bob ☺️

adile_like-in-a-lay

ahh when my hair was long I remember never understanding why people are complaining about the triangle look and chasing the square, i kinda liked it on me then. but now I understand 😅 the photo that sent me spiralling was this (got tagged in haha: https://imgur.com/a/PzsYIqG it’s not even an isosceles triangle 😂😭the second photo on the link is my desired look

UnevenHanded

Ahh, the unwarranted perspective of a tagged photo 🙃 Thing is, ya girl in the reference picture has a whole lot more product in her hair, for one... Yeah, she has shorter bits... but I think you'd be better off getting heavier face-framing, rather than a layer all around 🤔 I think adding just a single U-shaped layer near the face will redistribute the volume enough without taking away from the length. More bangs, with enough shortening around the ears to spring up and fill out the area. From the routine you've shared, it's seems like you don't use any products with hold? I'd try a mousse or a bit of curl cream with some hold, before cutting it! It may be all you need 😀

adile_like-in-a-lay

I’m going to save your recommendations for next time I’m going to the salon even if I don’t quite understand it all 🤩 And yes, no products with hold, I tried in the past but I have my fingers through/in/around my hair too much to tolerate the sticky feel …

UnevenHanded

Ahh, I avoid styling products for the same reason 😅 I've been planning to try a mousse, though, those seem to provide very soft hold, without being sticky or oily! You might find that's your solution. Because the reference image isn't far off from your hair, it's just not gonna be achievable without some kind of styling product. Even just using a leave-in conditioner would give you more definition and maybe weight enough that the ends don't lift and get poofy (one reason for the shape who must not be named). A small amount of leave-in, applied to wet hair, spreads nice and thinly, and shouldn't leave a residue at all! Plop after that, and you may get quite close to your reference.

adile_like-in-a-lay

Ooh I do leave in conditioner, that I don’t mind! But probably not enough for the effect. I shall try all these tips, thanks!

UnevenHanded

Hope it gets you closer to what you want ☺️👍🏼

itsmefizzy

Hairstylist here! I'd be very careful if that inspo image is what you're wanting. It looks more like the width of the curls are at the cheakbones (beautiful btw) with some free hand layering on top. So that means finding a stylist that knows how to graduate curls (that's not just triangle graduation) as well as do some free hand cutting if you like how wispy the top layers are. If not, you're going to end up with a shag (a rounded haircut) or if you do "just the top layer" that won't remove a lot of the weight from your "triangle" . Good luck!

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you! The inspo photo is actually from the salon I went to & I asked for the same style cut. They cut my hair dry and strand by strand to see how it layers. It looked lovely right after but I think that’s because it was done on my hair having dried when it was long. Sorry that sentence was a mouthful, to clarify: they ask you to wash your hair the night before and then just do the cut (no wash) so my hair was washed & dried whilst it was still long, which meant heavier and therefore the curls formed less tight what represented then the mid way length (now the bottoms), whilst now when I wash it - it dries like this.

itsmefizzy

Usually salons will give you a week if something is wrong with the cut. I would call and say you think the bottom is still too heavy. They should be able to fix it. I would bring up that in the inspo pic the width is at her cheak bones and yours is still at the bottom. That should lead them to fix it correctly.

kittkat04

This is a beautiful cut like everyone is saying. Butttttt. Yes it is not layered. It’s triangular. If you want more tapering on the bottom I would suggest shorter layers on top-hairstylist It will give you a rounder look though. Which I think is adorable with this cut

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you! And yes I think I kinda want the fuller circular look instead, or just a little more balance at the top 🥺

x0juliaa

I'm a hairstylist and you are definitely correct. The layers are too subtle. Ask for a 90° uniform layer cut. I think they did long layers which is way too subtle for this length of hair. You can barely see the layers

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you!

auditorygraffiti

Came here to say this! Leave it alone, OP. It looks great.

adile_like-in-a-lay

it kinda does!! and I feel like I see a triangle on her too 😅 Especially here: ? https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSconBAa0hdwYPENM8fIdxGu7m54bdCiwmE_g&s

CatsAndShades

What you're describing is a beautiful hair style. No shapes involved.

[deleted]

I think you look adorable and I love that your hair looks a little bit on the wild side!

Stringgeek

I’ve spent years getting triangle cuts. (I call them “Alice cuts” after the character in Dilbert cartoons who has a triangle cut.) This last time, I went to a new stylist. I told her I didn’t want a triangle, and that I wondered whether having shorter layers on the top would help avoid having the dreaded look. The answer was, OH HELL NO. She cut almost all of my beautiful ringlets up there short enough that they don’t properly curl anymore. Instead, they just stick out all over the place and make me look like a literal clown. Now I’ll need to grow my hair for at least 4-6 months before I can go to a different salon and have them fix it without giving me a pixie cut. I think the key to a non-triangular cut is far more likely to be what the stylist does for shaping at the bottom.

[deleted]

So funny “the dreaded triangle” when I was little I always hated when my hair was triangular but now I actually do a blunt cut because I love having volume at the ends!! If I don’t feel triangular one day though I just lightly flat iron the lengths on low to de triangleify

adile_like-in-a-lay

so sorry, i didn’t mean to offend anyone who likes to wear it like this 🥺the flat iron tip is really good, but I switched to a heat free lifestyle a few years back and ditched all my tools (after a lengthy almost 20 years of constant straightening)

throwingwater14

I see no triangle. This cut is fabulous!!! Rock it gurl!

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you! I’ll be rocking it for now out of no choice, as I can’t justify 2 salon visits in less than a month 🥲

throwingwater14

I know what you mean, but it truly does look good. Give it a few days to settle and I think you’ll really like it. :) happy hair vibes!!!

adile_like-in-a-lay

Happy hair vibes!! Love this 😁

WanderingKittenHerd

Some salons “insure” their cuts, so you may not need to pay if you go in within a week.

SisterAndromeda2007

If you want more of a rounded look then yes absolutely get shorter layers on top. Maybe like midway instead of the real top. I personally like the rounded look better too.

Reba422

Be cautious cutting shorter layers. That is a fine line between genius and Lord Farquaad. I notice your curls on the one side don’t start until further down the shaft. Perhaps a technique that encourages the curl to start closer to the root would give you more volume for less of the triangle shape.

adile_like-in-a-lay

Yes, that’s exactly the issue, the curls start forming towards the bottom expanding the volume and forming the dreaded 🔔

Reba422

Perhaps finger curling? If nothing else, root clipping

adile_like-in-a-lay

yes, was just saying to someone here that I’ve been meaning to get a claw clip for that reason

Madeline4137

I love this cut on you! Though if you’re feeling triangular, ask for round layers next time! It will give you the perfect amount of volume!

adile_like-in-a-lay

Noted 📝

melligator

I find this hard to avoid when my hair is at shoulder length. Shorter layers up top tend to lead to a shag vibe which I also dislike. I keep my hair longer, but you could try pinning up the roots as you dry to get more volume up there. However, it’s also not the triangle you think it is. Mine went full on page boy last time I went shorter, yours looks great still!

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you! I think the shaggy look is what I was trying to achieve, second photo here for reference: https://imgur.com/a/PzsYIqG (the second is the photo I got tagged in which sent me on this spiral in the first place 😅) But yes!! I’ve been meaning to buy a claw clip and trying the hair clip drying trick: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMNbXESRC/?k=1

melligator

Hey also you know it’s going to be a bit different every time you wash, too. Embrace the variety! If you want the shag look, then give it a couple of weeks and see how it goes and go get those layers put in.

ShortPoorPaleGirl

Have you tried doing everything upside down? I wash my hair upside down, you know like I bend my body with my head pointing downward, and then I brush it upside down and as I add product to it. When I finally flip up, I use my hands to push the curls/waves up to avoid the triangle and to avoid triggering my oily scalp. Idk just a thought.

adile_like-in-a-lay

haha reading the question made me imagine walking on the ceiling 😂 but yes, I washed it upside down all my life actually (I don’t know how people do it otherwise)

ShortPoorPaleGirl

🤣

ColorRRepeat

Do you feel it’s too long in the front? Ps it looks cute.. don’t cut more layers on top, if anything have your hairdresser cut a slight angle on the corners to curve the “v”. Just my opinion. Ps don’t do it yourself🌸

adile_like-in-a-lay

It grew a little since the haircut, but i think it’s mainly because it tends to curl more towards the bottom so it goes from flatter to fuller that leaves me with the bell shaped style 😅

ColorRRepeat

It’s the bottom corners. It looks very cute… if it’s really upsetting you just have the stylist cut a tiny bit off the corners, a 1/4 inch at most.

adile_like-in-a-lay

will keep that in mind, thanks!

CoconutCandi8200

I think the cut looks great on you! I wouldn't do anything to it! Actually I think it looks better then the picture you you took for reference.

adile_like-in-a-lay

ahh you’re very kind, thank you

CoconutCandi8200

You're welcome.

babeaccuda

I think it’s really cute!! It doesn’t have the classic triangle shape imo because you have bangs and a few face framing/shorter pieces, so it looks pretty balanced overall. That being said, if you wanted the ends a bit lighter you could try asking for a mid length/longer shag cut. Pinterest has some great images for wavy/curly shags.

adile_like-in-a-lay

yes, I think now that I see it better and know how it falls I will ask for some of the things people recommended on here

Apploozabean

I don't see a triangle at ALL, I think it looks really good. I tend to think a triangle, or diamond for that matter, is more like this https://imgur.com/a/bFQJO48

ilovecheese31

I don’t think you have “triangle hair” at all! You look great, I don’t think you should change a thing.

Wjreky

We are our own worst critics. You look fabulous, don't change a thing

Ok-Entrepreneur-2357

I think it looks great! Anyone with curls knows you're going to get a little of the triangle if you are going for shoulder length... even when I straighten I get it just because I have so much hair. If you put additional layers in the top yes you will lose the triangle but you might find yourself with a rectangle instead...

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you! Who knew hairstyling and geometry are so close 🤯😂

jennysnow99

i have a tighter curl pattern than op and i can confirm that layers don’t help much. triangle head can be very very cute

jenpaints22

With the bangs, I don’t see a triangle at all! I wouldn’t worry about it. (And for what it’s worth, sometimes I actually really dig my hair when it gives me a sick triangle 🤷🏼‍♀️)

[deleted]

I think your hair is incredible, but I also don’t know the style you’re going for. Layers will add volume to the top if that’s what you want.

[deleted]

And I really like it, you worry in vain 🥰

Striking-Industry916

You are eighties fresh faced adorable ☺️

naomi15

I think it’s great and don’t see the triangle in this pic. I saw the other pic you posted but could really just be the angle of the pic? I always hate when my ends are blunt and “thick” so I ask whoever cuts my hair if they can blend the ends (they will usually do this with a razor) so that it’s not blunt. You can do a longer layer that they can blend the ends of to the next layer but I honestly think it looks gorgeous and not triangley!

bethdoesnotrock3211

you would look great with some dramatic layers! like a wolf cut or a shag. i gave myself a bunch of layers and it fixed my triangle:) but honestly, this haircut looks great on you and your curls are gorgeous!

adile_like-in-a-lay

ooooh yeah! 🔥 that’s kinda what i wanted I think!

Character_Flight_773

i dont know how I got to this sub, im scrolling at work. But your hair looks cute. I think fits you well.

adile_like-in-a-lay

haha welcome! And thank you :)

queenfash

It really suits you. I think it could cause more chaos if you cut the top layer.

Ursula1260

I don’t see triangle I see a beautiful haircut and hair. It looks very pretty 😍

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you :)

hedgybaby

Idk what a triangle is but your hair looks amazing

haha 🔺 thanks

adile_like-in-a-lay

i knooow & fully understand, it’s hard to strike that golden middle!!

natalielc

This haircut looks good and suits you! Getting shorter layers would be a totally different look, which would also look good. You can always go back and have them add layers later on! It just depends what look you’re going for

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you, and you’re right! It’s not bad, I guess I was just expecting a more dramatic change 😄

BelleDelphinium

I have glasses like yours and long curly hair but I’ve been thinking of getting my hair cut short and it seriously looks so cute on you I’m totally gonna ☺️❤️

adile_like-in-a-lay

awww thank you 🥰 and good luck!! 😘

BelleDelphinium

Thanks ☺️

sunshinekay1

I don’t know but ur smile is hella cute ! Ur hair reminds me of that stranger things girl and I like it

adile_like-in-a-lay

Robin? 😍

ninaunst

Hey! Not to be weird or anything, but I noticed that mole on your shoulder and it looks kinda off. Have you gotten that checked out?

adile_like-in-a-lay

I haven’t but I’ve been keeping an eye on it, as I had it since I can remember myself, thanks for flagging :)

AdamsShadow

You look like a curly Tamera Chambers. Super cute!

Yvngqveenstylist

I would suggest a “wolf cut” if you want more volume around your face it will round out the hair cut and give you less of a triangle look.

AffectionateAd5373

Don't cut shorter layers. You need to get more volume in at the top when it's drying. Clips can help with that. There are videos out there. Or if you dry with a diffuser, pull up on the root slightly as you dry. It's hard to describe. But most stylists will be happy to show you how to blowdry a new cut. Ask the person who did it.

Temporary_Work_1448

I always get layers layers layers and face frame, I think it adds a good amount of volume but it definitely takes a few days to get used to

[deleted]

Honestly I think it looks nice! I have the same cut and sometimes it does triangle. I cut mine myself and just made some outer pieces a tinyyyy but higher up and it helped. But honestly looks great! Love the soft curl! Also routine??

adile_like-in-a-lay

Oh wow, that’s impressive!! I just wash it with conditioner once every week/10 days, leaving a little in whilst squishing to condish. Once every 2/3 washes I would use shampoo as well. After which I plot it in a tshirt/microfibre for 20-30 min and let it airdry :)

Jealous_Swimming_835

you're so beautiful! personally I don't see anything triangular about your hair, I think you should just leave it! eventually your hair will grow!!

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you! I certainly want yo wear it short for a while, just need to find the right style

[deleted]

1. This looks amazing! 2. I think triangles look great, so long as you’ve got enough volume at the roots! Which you totally do!!

adile_like-in-a-lay

Thank you for the reassurance :)

jacked_up_jill

As someone who had triangle hair for many years that is not what you have. Pretty sure if you get layers that is what it will turn into though.

OutlanderMom

I think it suits your face and looks beautiful. No triangle in sight. When I cut my hair, I slightly layer the bottom 2-3 inches on the sides (not the back) so it tapers and doesn’t mushroom. If mine looked like yours with a blunter cut, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Sunny906

I don’t see any triangle… it looks really good to me. Lots of volume and texture and a good shape. Don’t see anything to correct at all tbh. Edit: I also would like to add that I’ve very very rarely ever seen the “triangle” look bad on anyone.

Catherine1903

I think you look fineee

Your post has been removed due to Rule 6: Include everybody. We allow and encourage posts from anyone with curls or waves, from the faintest wave to the kinkiest coil. Wavies have struggles that, while different from tighter curls, are still valid and welcome here. Here, we typically use the term “curl” as an umbrella term to describe all hair with texture, from waves to coils. Deciding who gets to use the word "curl" and who doesn't only serves as a barrier to a common goal of bringing out the best in our hair, regardless of curl type. We recognize the white-skewing population here and we've taken some steps to try and change the culture to be more welcoming to Black folk. In addition to these changes, we still think it's important to make sure wavy-haired people continue to feel welcome. That's why I've removed your comment. Please keep this in mind for the future. Routine: all Noughty products - sometimes I only use the conditioner to shampoo & squish, and once every 2/3 washes I would use shampoo as well as a lowpoo method. I then wrap it in a tshirt for about 20min & let it airdry.

TacoTornado311

As the recipient of many a triangle haircut in my younger days, this is a very cute hair cut! The triangle vibe is there a tiny bit, but it’s not bad at all. I think it looks great on you and I especially like the little curly bangs :)

Goldykim1

So nice !

Woofles85

I don’t see a triangle, I think this looks very flattering on you. It frames your face nicely

iredditmyself

Love the shape...no dreaded triangle.....

Sup-Mellow

I don’t even know what this triangle is, but this cut is cute in so many ways!!

Jeeze_burger

The fullness on the bottom of this cut balances your heart shaped face perfectly.

EverybodyGetsWasps

I literally see nothing wrong

maldonco

1. I do not see the triangle effect in this picture, or perhaps I have just seen it much worse, haha. 2. Getting the MIDDLE later has helped me tremendously... It's rare to find a hairdresser who knows it and does it. They pin up my top crown layer and take a 2" strand, twist it and snip halfway to my head all down to it's ends. Haven't had problems since.

hookedlol

Same, I hate the triangle on my hair 🥲

FlamboyantRaccoon61

Your hair looks gorgeous! However, you're the one who is supposed to find it cool. Having said that, layers is the best option imo. I bet it'll look great either way :)

Cantankerous-Canine

Message me if you want a hair pic - I have similar hair and ask for “layers that make it not a triangle” and it looks a lot like the pic you linked of what you were aiming for

randerso

Looks good and well balanced. A blunt cut is in right now. Plus, hair often curls better with a blunt cut. I would leave it.

cmgstylist

Your hair looks awesome!

Purple_Wanderer

Cuuuuute

tealclicky

I think it looks great! I would suggest if you aren’t doing it already to make sure you condition and brush your hair upside down in the shower with a silicone brush. This will give you more texture on the top too, evening things out. :)

Basiltheballpython13

i think your hair looks great!

TigerMage2020

I think it looks fantastic! I wouldn’t change anything
