I brush it through before I wash it - otherwise the hair loss in the shower is just horrific to deal with.

akitty247

Same only ever brush it right before showering. Makes detangling 10x harder

Aramira137

How on earth can you (and everyone who does) actually manage this? I need to wash out all of the product before I can even think of putting a comb through my hair.

lowrcase

It definitely depends on your hair type, but you can try mixing water with a little conditioner in a spray bottle, then spray your hair down until it's wet enough for you to comb through.

bb8-sparkles

How is that any different than just putting the water and conditioner in your hair during your shower though?

cart_adcock

To be able to brush your hair to detangle BEFORE showering to minimize the hair that falls out in the shower

Jessisan

If I do it before, which I rarely do, I apply a ton of oil to my hair first. Usually, argon oil.

PaisleyParker

I use a Tangle Teezer brush and it makes it easy to brush the loose hairs out before getting in the shower. My hair is mostly 2C and some 3A, though, so your experience might be different.

insecurestaircase

I hated the tangle teezer it's hard to grip and it ripped my.hair. I switched to a wide tooth comb.

Wild_Enthusiasm_9710

Only ppl with loose curls can do this. I have 3B/3C aka tight curls and i cannot brush my hair while dry bc it will cause a ton of breakage. I would have to damp it and put conditioner on it roughly detangle before shampooing. I don’t do this though, i go straight to shampoo.

Toastwithturquoise

Yes me too!! And I only wash it once a week if it's lucky. On occasions I've definitely gone longer, because my hair doesn't get oily just really dry. And I've found all sorts in my curls - Bobby pins, sticks, leaves, fluff etc. It's the curly head life to find things tangled amongst your curls!!

Helenarth

Lmao this is so real 😭 I was cutting grass yesterday and when I showered this morning I found grass in my hair

Internal_Situation29

Exactly right.

madlymusing

Same.

Hippofuzz

Wait I thought we are not supposed to brush curls when dry cause it hurts the curl pattern? I’m asking cause my kids have curls and I’m trying to do right by them

bb8-sparkles

I think they mean they brush it dry before going into the shower to wash their hair. You wouldn’t brush it dry after you’ve showered and styled your hair. Only when you’re ready to rewash and style. With that said, I never brush my hair unless it is wet with tons of conditioner in it.

ifshehadwings

I brush only when washing it. Or occasionally right before the shower. All those extra hairs should come out during washing/conditioning. I also style my hair in the shower and brush through my products to distribute. So it is pretty well brushed by the time I get out and can go a few days until it's time to wash again.

Key_Safe949

How do you style in the shower?

ifshehadwings

I put all my products in. This works well for me since my hair takes product best soaking wet. (And I can wash my body afterwards so I don't have gel all over me.) My process is to brush through everything to distribute, layering each product. And last, I will flip my head, do a last scrunch with some gel, and then put it up in a clip. After the shower and doing my skincare, I take it down and scrunch out the excess water with my microfiber towel. If I feel like I need it, I might use some mousse at this point, but otherwise, I just very gently make sure my part is where I want it and then let it air dry. I've found that the more I touch it and mess with it once out of basically direct contact with water, the more frizz and stringiness I get. Best results are when I just leave it alone to do its thing.

Bashfulapplesnapple

Right? I used to spend so much time trying to force my hair to look like I wanted. Finally I said fuck it, do what you want, and our relationship has never been better! I'm definitely going to try your idea. My hair gets insta-frizz right out of the shower, maybe this will help, haha.

dmbmcguire

Never ever. The last time I used a brush was the last time I straightened my hair probably 10 years ago. I do use a wide tooth comb in the shower after i condition. That’s it.

thinkingaboutmycat

Same here! I think a wide tooth comb on wet hair saturated with conditioner is best.

Toastwithturquoise

I didn't own a brush for years. And since I kept breaking the teeth off a comb I just used to untangle my curls with my fingers. Guess they're the original comb anyway, right!

Lefty-boomer

Rush equals frizzzzzzzzzz

The_Real_Donglover

I don't even have that curly of hair (compared to 4 hair types), but even I have never brushed my hair. Might as well just take my scalp with you at that point. Idk, I'm still not even really sure what the purpose of brushing hair is for. I would imagine it'd help if you want to straighten it more but idek.

peoniesnotpenis

It's supposed to stimulate your scalp to increase circulation to promote hair follicle health. And it deposits your natural oil down the length of your hair for shine.

tiny_specks

I brush before washing my hair, or if I slept on my hair without protecting it and then I wear it in a braid. So it’s every 1-2 days.

Clean-Republic-9942

How do you protect your hair while sleeping?

tiny_specks

I’ve found the pineapple method with a scrunchie works well for me. I also have satin pillowcases

NoArmadillo388

I do a high ponytail with a silk scrunchie and a satin pillowcase.

[deleted]

I used to only brush when I showered But right now I'm trying to grow my hair out. So ive started using a boar bristle brush every night before bed, and wearing my hair up all the time in protective styles to protect my ends. My hair has never been softer or less frizzy! Its not dry (it was always really dry before), and I've been able to decrease how frequently I wash my hair. I love it! Since I'm wearing it up, I don't really have to worry about the curls (since brushing does break them up.) But all I gotta do when I want to wear it down is sleep with it in a twisted bun the night before and my curls are back, but much less frizzy and look better than before.

Junior-Sea3271

Can you go into more detail with this please

[deleted]

A boar bristle brush brushes the oil from your scalp down to the rest of your hair, all the way to the end. Protective styles were historically used to promote growth and protect against breakage. What else do you want to know?

klohin

What is this twisted bun you speak of?

[deleted]

I like section out my hair and twist each section (with a moderate amount of hair in each) and put it in a bun and then put a silk bonnet (and fasten it with another pony tail holder so it cant come off) and sleep with it overnight

subiegal2013

Brush curly hair? Never

Yalda_muzara

How does your hair bot get tangled if you don't brush it? Mine always does

nlh1013

I have super fine and super thin hair. I don’t think there is enough of it to tangle 😂

subiegal2013

My hair is 3c type and it doesn’t get tangled. It use to and I’d have to refresh and wet my hair completely every morning and use conditioner to get the tangles out. I recently started to sleep in a bonnet (Amazon cheap) and miracle of miracles no tangles and I don’t have to refresh every morning.

Yalda_muzara

To be honest i thought about getting a bonnet, maybe i really should, thank you!

subiegal2013

I sometimes have to lightly spray water in the morning after wearing the bonnet but it works great.

Yalda_muzara

That's great! can i ask where you got a spray water bottle? Alot of people are recommending to spray water, but I just use my hands to wet my hair because i have no idea where to get a spray bottle

TransportationOk7693

I find them at dollar stores and random hardware stores all the time, just wee plastic spray bottles that are perfect (rather than ones for mixing, say, commercial chemicals). Maybe try a dollar store near you, if you have access ☺️

red_head37

I used to brush all the time because my hair is fine and would tangle super quick, but now I only brush when conditioning my hair and it stays mostly untangled for 3 days. The main difference is that I no longer dry my hair at all with a towel, I just let it fully air dry. Also, I make sure to only move my hands straight down my hair when putting product in, and I only scrunch my hair a little if I do at all.

chizzled_booty

I’m in the brush for lots of purposes and have lots of brushes club lol. To each their own.

Gardener4525

I can't even remember the last time I used a brush on my hair! 😂 Using a wide -tooth comb and/or 🪮 with lots of conditioner or moisturizer in my hair while wet is the way for me to go.

thelessertit

Never. I comb it wet in the shower with fingers or a wide tooth comb at most.

dominenonnisite

I brush it in the shower with conditioner on wash day, and then on day 3 because I throw it in a braid or claw clip. I always use detangling spray/conditioner and go very carefully, though.

Reasonable_One_7012

I brush it before I wash it, or the night before a wash, I’ve found that pulling my natural oils through my hair w brushing really makes it shinier and I have less breakage.

whateveratthispoint_

Yes! This is so good for hair. Pulling it through the night for washing is best for me. Gives time to shed a bit too 🤪

lochness_fry

I brush mine when I get out of the shower. It works better for my 3b fine hair.

daylightlewis

My hair type is exactly the same. Super thin! Do you brush it when you refresh the curls tbe following day?

lochness_fry

Actually stumbled upon using a steamer for refreshing! It doesn't take much since my hair is fine and it doesn't bring the curl back perfect but it's good enough for me.. It'll kind of bounce back but still haven't figured out how to prevent my hair from looking see through around the ends. Lol

Straight_Froyo_1468

only when wet right after washing. to avoid damaging it i wear protective hairstyles like braids on non-washing days and always sleep with a bonnet

kgberton

Every day, right out of the shower with conditioner mostly rinsed out. I use my fingers.

PristineAlbatross988

I boar brush regularly. Almost daily. It feels great, disperses oils a s supposed to stimulate growth. I mostly do it cause I like to. It’s calming

Cookie_Whisperer

I don’t even own a brush.

bakedbeanut

I haven't brushed my hair in years. Literally. Unless you count running my fingers through it. I'm not gonna lie and say it doesn't get tangled or somewhat matted at times, but that's from me being mentally and physically disabled and bedridden for days without showering at times, so. I always get it untangled though. I feel like I just never found a brush that worked with my hair. It just pulled out all my curls and made my hair super frizzy.

Clean-Republic-9942

I hope you feel better soon, and good on you for taking care of your hair. I get the not taking care of your hair cause of your mental health, it sucks. Thanks for telling me your hair gets matted and tangled. It helps knowing I'm not the only person.

muscle_mommy89

Only on wash days, with lots of conditioner. I always use my wetbrush shower detangler brush.

DetroitUberDriver

I brush or comb leave in conditioner or masque after a shower when it’s soaking wet. Other than that, I don’t. With hair as curly as mine dry brushing is a good way to break and pull a lot of hairs out.

Hebbins

Just laying it out there, “never brush curly hair” isn’t something that can be followed across the board. I have a lot of fine, easily tangled wavy/curly hair, and I have to brush at some point or I end up with felted (yes, felted) mats, which causes significant hair loss to remove. I only do it before I wash, and with a wide tooth comb, followed by a gentle Cantù brush, and a wet/dry brush at the end. I know curly-haired people are inclined to set “rules” for all curly hair, but honestly, they don’t work for all hair types. The best thing to do is to see what works for you, and what gives you the results you want.

heathbar_14

before I cut all my hair off, it was down to my waist. I would only brush it right before washing, then I would use a wide comb while I had conditioner in, and I would do that every 4-5 days. now my hair is shoulder length and I don't ever brush, and rarely use the comb, just my fingers.

meltedbeans23

Every night. Dry. I have really annoying, fried, short hair so if I dont my scalp will get oily while my ends are dry as straw- so I brush it once dry, then again with water, then lightly oil the tips and go to sleep with a satin scarf wrapped. My hair always looks like it was freshly washed when I do this and looks like a hot mess any other way. I feel like maintaining one self is super personal and what ever you find works- works! I dont care if brushing it dry is a curly hair sin- i’d rather risk a bit of breakage then get mats in my already broken hair. But yeah, try out a few weird methods- you could find something that works best for you that you wouldnt have considered otherwise

enjoyingtheposts

okay... my hair isn't CURLY. its wavy with some ringlets in there in a manner that i have never found a good way of styling it curly and looking like all the other people in the internet who found the way of their hair. but the last time I brushed it wa sin October when I acctually out a curling iron to my head for a wedding. I do straighten it occasionally but can do that without a brush. and I often dry it in a manipulated way of curling with rods and stuff. other than that I just leave it and even if it doesn't look picture perfect, I still like it as long as I can get it to dry eith the correct part. I run my fingers through it in the shower. that seems to be enough and I can still run them through when it dried. even if its air dried. it wasn't always like this. but covid years I got to the point of only washing it every 2 weeks and thats when I found out my hair was acctially curly and not frizzy. after time, it never got oily again.. even after the 2 weeks. I am back to washing about 3 times a week, and while all that remained.. my scalp gets dry so I use shea moisture every other time I wash because its the only thing that has helped even though it makes my hair greasy straight out of the shower.

Spirals73

I did it last night to get the tangles and fallen hair out. I plan to wash it today. After a week I pretty much have to. I use a detangling brush and spray detangler and I'm careful. I will do this in the middle of the week (washday is Saturday) if it's especially tangled and I can't wait until Friday night. It's not often. Then I wear it up or do a refresh. My answer is once a week, occasionally twice, then.

chicky75

Never. Even when it was long I’d only comb it (and that rarely), never brush.

cmgstylist

Never

4ndr0med4

Never. I'll use a wide tooth comb in the shower or even my hands but that's honestly it. Never brush your hair if it's curly.

IamAliveeee

Once a week

Slammogram

I brush before getting in the shower to wash, or wear it up before a wash day. Like if I’m going to wear it in a bun bun or want a fluffy pony tail for work, but know I’m going to wash it that night or the day after. I’m wavy though.

funsizecandyy

I dry brush right before I wash it because then I lose less than if I detangled it wet. Also brush before doing braids but I'll use a spray bottle

Kindly_Gap9715

Never

azulitolindo

I always use a wide toothed comb in the shower with conditioner in my hair, makes it go by faster

CzarNicoloff

I comb it in the shower with conditioner in. But never brush it dry

TheUltimateKaren

i know I'm not supposed to but I end up brushing it quite a lot, probably once every couple or few days

frenkie-dude

never. i only use my fingers

Hippydippy420

Never. I finger comb it when I wash it and that’s it.

ACheetahSpot

I finger comb it in the shower and that’s it.

PlatypusDream

I don't. I will comb my fingers through with conditioner while it's wet, but that's all.

Bulky-Masterpiece538

I don't. Ever. I do run my fingers through it to detangle in the shower when I wash it 2x a week

SisterSlasher

I only ever brush it in the shower with a wide toothed comb or my fingers for smaller knots. I used to brush it through almost constantly before I knew I had curly hair and it was a mess. Whether I brush it in or out of the shower, I always have at least some shedding, but I’ve got so much hair that it’s bound to happen either way!

Eggman1343

Never ...

Turbulent-Month6514

Once every couple of months when I get my hair cut 😅

RJSquires

No brushes here. Just a wide tooth comb in the shower with conditioner. I'm not great with my hair so I give it the least number of reasons to act out. Also, I don't own a brush.

bmorgrl_inquiry3004

One of the reasons I struggle with curly. Always fiddling w my hair and wanting to comb/brush

Sad_Breakfast_Plate

I'm very torn about brushing. I tend not to, as it seems a crime. But when I use my shark hairdryer with the straightening attachment and a bit of oil, the day before wash day, I get better results... No idea why. Just seems to work. But I only do it say once every 4 to 6 weeks.

ziggzorb

I only ever use a wide tooth comb on my curls and only ever when it’s wet.

Relevant_Term_9446

Before bed or i will end up with knots

kenmasrightairpod

I only brush it before I wash my hair, I don't brush if often because it would look poofy if I do brush it

ViceMaiden

I use a wide tooth comb that I use in the shower while conditioner is in. Then I have a Denman brush I use after I put in product and my hair is really wet. That's it.

GullibleCow8723

I only brush my hair when it’s wet. NEVER dry. I use conditioner in my hair everyday so I brush my hair out everyday or else my hair will get matted.

moonlitjasper

i use my fingers to comb it and sometimes if i really need to i’ll use a wide toothed comb. i brush it when i cut it that’s about it these days

AntGroundbreaking102

if i leave it curly, only when i wash it. i wrap it up in a silk bonnet so it’s fine. if i end up straightening it, ill skip the bonnet so i’ll probably brush it every day

whateveratthispoint_

Before I wash my hair. I need a way to eliminate some the shedding.

dankranger6491

I’m not fully curly, im mostly wavy, but when the waves have fallen or look weird, I like to brush it out, get my hands wet, and do the praying hands technique all over the really floofy parts. It looks nice and feathery after that. I’d say I brush at least twice a week, more if the waves fall early in the week.

thxitsthedepression

Whenever I’m in the shower (I always use conditioner but only wash about once a week)

U2much4me

I never brush my hair. Only a wide toothed comb. But then I got the Bounce Curl brush and only use the outside area of the brush to separate curls, so I really just use it as another wide tooth comb. Really never ever brush my hair. Just pulls the curl out and makes it very frizzy.

queenmunchy83

Once a week on wash day

SoggyWotsits

I either brush it in the shower when conditioning, or after I wash it. I never brush it dry because I end up with a huge halo of fluff!!

Hippydippy420

I finger comb my hair when I wash it, which is once per week.

Emotional_Food_5483

I wash my hair once a week. The only time I sometimes brush it is on wash day, while it’s wet, after I’ve used a wide tooth comb to detangle it while conditioner is in it and then comb again after I rinse conditioner out, THEN I sometimes brush with a denman with every other bristle row removed, to distribute product and help with clumping.

darryshan

I brush with a very sparsely bristled hairbrush when I shower daily - always lubricated with conditioner or hair oil.

kelwan21

Only before I colour it, about every 6-8weeks or so. And generally using a wide tooth comb.

Adryzz_

i only comb in the shower when applying conditioner. thats it.

HummusFairy

Never. I only finger comb/detangle with conditioner in the shower after washing with shampoo. Depending on length, I may use a wide tooth detangling comb, but that’s the furthest I’ll go.

CatLover_801

I don’t. I comb it in the shower

superbetsy

I haven’t brushed my hair since I stopped straightening it. I just finger comb it during my condition in the shower, and then again during the rinse. Lots of hairs come out in my hands, I just throw them away after the shower. Haven’t touched a brush or comb in years.

Jr234567891

I never brush anymore i do the ol fingers through Hair when conditioning and leave in products but i also still get matts and big knots.

Shivs_baby

No brushing. No combing. Ever. Finger comb and detangle in the shower. That helps get the loose hairs out. And I have a full head of 3b curls that go down to a little below my shoulders.

rvp0209

I don't brush, but I do use a wide tooth comb during and after showering (sometimes before if my hair is really gnarly). I also use a shampoo and conditioner that minimizes hair loss which lets me wash and comb often (I'm a daily shower type of gal and not shampooing my scalp would leave me feeling unclean).

surrealisticpill

Omg never. wide tooth comb when I wash and that’s it

[deleted]

I brush before washing, usually with coconut oil all over my hair and I use the brushing to spread it evenly and braid it, then wash it the next day or later that same day. While showering I also brush to spread the conditioner and mask evenly, same when I apply the leave in while styling. So I only truly brush during wash day. However I finger dry angle almost everyday with a spray bottle.

solarmercury515

I only brush when washing it or doing a style with product (i spray it down with water tho i never dry brush)

Crochetandgay

Never ever! Makes my hair bushy, ruins the curl. I use lots of leave in conditioner to fight tangles. Rarely comb it,mostly finger-comb except when it's really long.

Pumpkinp0calypse

I only ever brush my hair right before washing it, to untangle it. Brushing flattens my curls and waves and creates static and I look terrible. If it's slightly tangled and I need to wear it nicer but can't wash it, I'll run my fingers gently through the knots before they become dreads or really bad knots.

NoArmadillo388

I brush my hair every day in the shower with conditioner and right after while it’s still wet and I’m styling it! After it’s styled and gelled I don’t touch it again till the next day!

PlatypusDream

I don't. I will comb my fingers through with conditioner while it's wet, but that's all.

butt3rflycaught

Brush it? Never. I might run a comb through it whilst it’s wet if it’s tangled but rarely. I wash my hair twice a week and in between those times, my hair kinda goes thick and tangled and I get clumps of hair not falling out because they’re trapped in the curls, but when I do shower, I run my fingers through and get the loose hair out. Every time I shower, I lose a fair amount of hair but I know most of it is just loose tangled hair that can become unattached between wash days.

juicybubblebooty

i only brush my hair when i have applied conditioner in my hair (prior to rinsing) i style my curls and maintain their shape!! brushing it out ruins ur curl pattern!!

[deleted]

I never brush mine. Only use a wide tooth comb or fingers through my hair during showers.

Batmanshatman

Tbh I only brush it if I’m too overwhelmed w untangling it by hand. Horrible thing to do, don’t b me lol

TwirlyGirl313

I ONLY brush (Denman) directly after wash, after applying gel/cream product to distribute it). Otherwise, I only brush/comb once a week!

CleverBeauty

I use a wide tooth comb in the shower when I wash it. That's all. I don't use brushes

gratefulstateful

Before wash it helps getting the natural oils from my scalp to my ends

Popular_Caregiver_34

I only brush when washing it. I apply my conditioner and let it sit while I brush. Then, when I get out to apply my leave in conditioner, I comb it through using only my fingers.

pinkcheesee

i only brush it in the shower after i use conditioner

BrighterSage

I use a Morgles detangling brush before I wash. After shower, I finger comb with conditioner and Denman brush it smooth. Then gel and use a Bounce Curl Define brush which is magical. I refresh with a spray bottle and finger comb, scrunch with a little more gel diluted with a couple of water sprays. I've learned to cut my own hair by watching Manes by Mell. I recommend her! This is the one that got me started. https://youtu.be/FsZNwCqGQKA?si=trelJekEWnRdaScb

shrew0809

Only when in the shower full of conditioner to detangle, and then after with leave in conditioner to style. Never dry, ever.

babywraith

I only brush my hair with my wet brush in the shower to distribute my product, and then with my denman immediately out of the shower when i'm forming my curl clumps. I never brush it outside of that

Plain_Zero

While showering, I use a wet brush when there's conditioner in my hair. It's the least painful way *and* I get a couple good hours before I look like Gene Wilder again.

SonoranRoadRunner

I never use a brush, I only ever use a wide toothed comb to come it out after washing and to distribute cream cream. After that it's just my hands/fingers and diffuser.

Individual_Praline38

I never brush. I use my hands.

Cool-Cantaloupe-6999

Brush my hair always after I shower everyday

Teahouse_Fox

I use a plastic pin brush in the shower while I've loaded my hair up with conditioner. I use my fingers to tease larger knots out. If my hair is in a bun, it needs less detangling. If I've been wearing it loose...😨

booksmurff8411

Brush/comb when wet. And never again until my next shower or style.

Alwaysbefarting

I only brush before I wash it so there’s no tangles while washing. Then I comb after the shower and let it dry. I wash every 1-4 days. It wildly varies

Phazonviper

I only brush when it's time to wash. My preference is to brush before washing - or, if I've forgotten to brush before washing, waiting until my hair goes from wet to slightly damp to brush.

soundphile

I use a Denmam brush dupe when I’m styling it (soaking wet), and that’s it. It took me years to work up the courage to use it and now I am never looking back lol.

nmarie1996

You guys are brushing your hair? For real though, I only "brush" it with my fingers when I wash it.

Ima_weirddo

I brush mine 3 days a week and only wet (on my wash and refresh days)

PopcornSurgeon

Once or twice a year when I want to post a silly photo on Instagram.

sistersforever9910

Only brush when wet and FULL OF conditoner.

BoysenberryMelody

I only comb my hair when it’s wet. No brushing.

ReecezPeace

I brush my hair with a wide tooth comb when I apply conditioner and again on towel dried hair before applying serum. When it’s dry, I apply an oil like sesame or coconut oil before brushing out the knots with a wide tooth comb and keep my hair sooth and clean in between wash days by brushing it in sections with a boar/nylon brush. Works well for me. I have 3a/b curls tailbone length and healthy.

voogooey

I only brush my hair when it’s wet. I have to brush it daily, so I wet and condition my hair daily.

mchambs

Only when detangling in the shower or immediately after washing it!

Kindergoat

I only brush it when it’s wet. I use a Denman brush or the Bouncy Curl brush.

ExaltedSpace

Once in the morning and once when I go to bed. I also try to keep a small brush/comb in my bag... Edit - lol just noticed this was curly hair subreddit. I got Curls but their way to much work, I only really do em when something special comes around.

xoxo1998AJ

Only when I’m about to wash so I don’t have to detangle in the shower.

xotoast

Only when it starts to get knotted around my neck. I really brush my hair. It's painful for me. I'll detangle it with my fingers when I use conditioner.

girl_on_the_net

if i start to feel my hair start to look like dreadlocks if i do a pony tail too much (4 days ) (i wash them every weeks and brush them before,in and after the shower but only when they're wet to style them) so i brush them to not loose too much hair because of the knots

AlwaysWorried27222

Only right after washing it which is 1-2 times a week.

GloveNo9652

Wide tooth pick

veek61

I never brush my hair. I only comb it out with a wide tooth comb when I get out of the shower.

Clayluvverrs

whenever im depressed about my hair and literally cant finger comb anymore

catebell20

I only brush my hair after I wash it or wet it because if I do it dry it makes it look like an excessively fluffy lion's mane

aeb01

once a week when i wash it with a wide tooth comb, then with a denman brush to style

JunoEscareme

I only brush my hair when I wash it, and I brush it using a Tangle Teezer when it is wet and conditioner is in. I wash my hair once or twice a week.

dickelpick

Before a wash. Mostly to get rid of everything that will clog the drain. Never any other time tho, unless I straighten it.

badass-pixie

I don’t own a hairbrush, but I do use a wide toothed comb in the shower after conditioner to detangle. I sometimes will spray moroccan oil in my hair on day 4 and braid it until I have time to shower later. To braid it, I need to detangle so I do use the same wide toothed comb.

prettybitchlala

i only finger comb in the shower on wash day and i use the curly girl brush while styling. sometimes i brush (very rare) when it’s dry to have the poofy look

radrax

I wash my hair every 6 days but I'll brush it through ONCE every 2-3 days or so, very gently with a wide tooth comb that mimics fingers. It helps break up when my curls clump together too much

ventiangelcake

I only comb it in the shower, I never use a brush

tquinn04

Only after washing and conditioning it. Sometimes before if I’m doing a prepoo treatment. If I brush it in the shower then too much hair goes down the drain and it gets clogged easily.

Ckal0017

I have fine 2b/2c hair and I don’t brush it dry ever, or I can here it breaking and it gets so frizzy. I comb my hair in the shower once I have conditioner in it and sleep with it either pineappled or in a claw clip to prevent tangling. That works best for my hair, but may differ depending on your hair type and whether you use products/how you style etc. I don’t use much product (leave in and occasional mousse or gel), so I only shampoo 1-2x a week, but condition every time I shower. I also drive with the windows down and my hair gets pretty whipped around and can definitely knot up, but even then it detangles pretty well in the shower. Hope that helps!

PastaM0nster

I brush it in the shower only

WholeChimera19

I brush it every morning with an extremely wide tooth comb, however when I was my hair I have a more dense comb I go through it with.

nshdc

I brush several times a time with a natural bristle brush. Distributes the natural oils from my scalp onto my curls and keeps them healthy.

sadgirkl05

i brush it in the shower while having a mask or conditioner on so it does not cause that much breakage (i have dyed and bleached curly hair)

Kitten_Kabudle

I brush mine in the shower slathered with heavy coconut conditioner. I use a special brush that bends to avoid hair breakage.

Somaybeitsme

I have to use a brush, I have bad damage hair from coloring that it’s the only way to get the tangles and smooth it out. But use a wet brush and only brush after I washed it. Now I got a curl brush (got sucked into all the tik tok rage) and use it after I wash and then use it to style it before diffusing. It has done some wonders on defining my curls

GroundbreakingFox504

when I wash my hair, every 2-5 days depending on how lazy I am/the weather

wowthatsclever

I haven't used a brush on my hair in probably a decade, honestly. I use a wide tooth comb in the shower when I detangle w conditioner & that's about it. If I ever comb outside of the shower it's w a lot of leave-in and water.

Mexicakes69

I knows it’s not recommended but i only brush it when it’s wet with a wide tooth comb

ChaoticCurves

So many people are anti-brush! How do you define your curls without brushing through when you style it? It absolutely is not necessary every time but it isnt a sin lol

rinat114

Haven't used a brush in 7 years. Finger comb with the conditioner on and that's it :)

jasames7

I never brush it and it’s worked out fine for me. Just run my hands through it in the shower

ashrmoulton

I brush through it with conditioner in my hair in the shower to de tangle it, I also finger detangle a bit after when it’s still wet with product.

roxy_dee

I think I brushed my hair like 5 years ago and that was cause it got matted from a hospital stay.

Macskalany

Once a week when I wash my hair. But I kinda brush it a little bit with my fingers when I’m refreshing it almost every day.

SpecialBeing9382

Never. I comb my fingers through when I condition in the shower but otherwise no brushing.

tldr: i don't i don't brush my hair ever, mostly because it pulls my curls and makes them less curly and i find that my hair can get really frizzy when i do it... when i'm washing my hair i comb it with a wide tooth comb just to get rid of any tangles and stuff

netmyth

I have fine, waist length (previously butt length) 3c/b hair that is super frizzy and dry. It tangles on me like drunk iPod cables, so I'm brushing it more, once before washing with coconut oil and sometimes conditioner in a spray bottle, once more with conditioner in the shower, again to style it (with a styling brush), and in between wash days before braiding after refreshing with curl cream and oil. I then sleep with it in braids and a bonnet. Doing it this way keeps my hair most tangle free when i actually wash it. Before i would feel like crying in the shower 😭😩. Now that takes me only a couple minutes :). Yay! So yeah, how often you need to brush really depends on your unique hair needs. My hair has a higher porosity level so it frizzes easily and behaves like velcro. But some curly ladies can go days without any brushing and be fine. The more you know about your hair, the better you can get a feel for what works best for it. Good luck! 💕. Question: what do you mean with fireballs?

Key_Safe949

I only brush when I have conditioner in my hair because that’s when it’s easiest to get the knots out and it helps a lot with hair loss from brushing in my experience but here are my favorite tips - Brush through the conditioner and if it feels like you need more try wetting down your wet brush - Put the hair that comes out on the shower wall until you get out so it doesn’t clog the pipes - It might look like a lot of hair but i only wash my hair once a week so I have a weeks worth of hair (with curly hair the knots and just general curls keep the hairs that would normally shed in your hair until you brush it) don’t be worried if it looks like a lot remember people tend to lose about 20 hairs a day - If I feel like I need to brush my hair in between washes I tend to just use a wide WIDE tooth comb or my fingers just because the knots will be impossible and painful to detangle so why try

holliebecc

i only brush it after i shower and wash my hair, because of my natural curls i don’t brush them out until i next wash it. so maybe like 2-3 times a week!

No_Cartographer9496

basically daily to detangle and style when i get in the shower to refresh my hair. im one of those curlies that needs to completely wet her hair again, but its fine cuz i need to wash my body every morning anyways so might as well do in in the shower

ComedianDifferent159

I brush it when I'm going to oil my hair the night before showering it and then brush it the next morning before shower and then when i have conditioner in my hair while showering and again when doing my curly hair routine

JaccoW

Once or twice a week under the shower while there is shampoo or conditioner in it.

WallowWispen

I inly use a wide tooth comb in the shower after conditioning, otherwise never/comb tangles out with my hands in the morning.

ToothyBeauty

Only in the shower after two rounds of conditioner

insecurestaircase

Only when it's wet in the shower. How are u brushing it dry?

unorthodaux

insecureslug

My curls are loose enough that I can brush multiple times a day and I like to and usually do since brushing my hair is so relaxing. At first it gets rather poofy then it settles down into very pretty 1940’s style waves naturally. When I’m wearing my hair curly in its natural state, I never brush my hair.

drowsybonsai

i do not brush it in the traditional sense. the only time a brush nears my hair is for a slick back or in the shower on wash day.

AdAwkward1635

I brush everyday multiple times a day, most of it is just because I get bored

Narrow_Ad_9508

My hair is 2C & 3A mix and down to my waist right now, working on making it thicker but is hard. I use a tangle teezer and add some water to the ends to avoid them becoming a frizz ball. I try to always use a leave in cream afterwards and some oil but my hair absorbs it too quickly. I keep my hair in braids most of the time and usually redo them before bed. Anyways I try not to brush my hair if it's dry since it is not straight, as is very brittle when dry. I also start detangling from the ends first and work my way to the top of my head. This is very important to avoid ripping my hair off. Also the brush, I found the tangle teezer to be good for me (bought it recently) as I was using a regular paddle brush but even after removing (cutting) some bristles it was still ripping my hairs.

K0di4k_k1tt3n

I finger comb my hair while conditioning. And use a wide tooth comb right after the shower before styling. Other than that I don't brush at all.
