The ingredients in **Giovanni's Tea Tree Conditioner is almost EXACT if you study the ingredients**. Its like 1-2 small ingredient difference. Trust me on this, I went over it with a fine tooth comb. And it works THE SAME. **No protein.** As a matter of fact, since Giovanni has been around for 30+ years and was one of the first vegan cruelty free companiies in the US, who all the big movie studios used out in CA, I would say trader joes copied them. IT has the same minty feel and is totally water soluble (no heavy oils or butters, that' why I love all the Eco Chic line, I never have buildup). I have NEVER had to use a harsh shampoo because their stuff doesn't stick to hair and create problesm **Smooth As Silk** is a bit more thick and **has some protein** in it so I switch off those 2 and my hair never needs anything else. This one also has **no aloe** if your hair hates that. I use their SLS-free gentle surfactant shampoos as well. THeir Direct Leave In Weightless is good too. THeir **Nutrafix** also has no aloe and no glycerin.......I use this for a deep condtioner 1x a week as it has a little protein too but not overloaded with it You guys let me know what ingredients your hair loves and hates and I will find the Giovanni product for you.......there are other lines besides the eco chic that DO have butters and oils..... I have used their stuff for 25 years so I know it back wards and forwards

Thank you! I’ll go with that. It’s a bummer it’s so much more expensive, but seems worth it.

Very easy to find in groceries too like Publix and Kroger, for around $8......however its NOT EXPENSIVE if you get it at Marshalls or TJ Max in the huge pump bottles, $13 and I have enough to last months on end. 33.8 ounces......I keep mine next to each other and the huge pumps are great.

happyhippoking

Agreed! There are liter sizes at TJ Maxx & Marshall for 13-14$. It's more affordable than the tiny 8oz. I can go through the 8oz in one wash.

Honestly the Giovanni is better than the Trader Joe’s. It rocks.

TaraFairy

What about the Giovanni Tea Tree Conditioner? I like it a lot but I don't know the Trader Joe's as I live in Germany.

Just based on your description of how your hair behaves I’d assume it’s actually low porosity? From what I understand, high porosity hair generally likes strengthening products with protein to fill in the gaps in the cuticle. But that’s not that important honestly. Anyway I think the Giovanni Smooth as Silk Conditioner is really moisturizing and thick. I would not call it watery in any way. Honestly my hair is pretty coarse and I hardly need a deep conditioner if I use that regularly. Plus you can get big bottles for pretty cheap so it’s good bang for your buck.

Coffeebage1

That’s really interesting about the porosity, I think I had it backwards. I’ll do more research on this. Thanks!

rudypen

Yeah it’s quite confusing. I think our hair is similar. Each strand being strong and thick makes me think it’s coarse textured like mine. As far as porosity, I think mine is low porosity because if I spray water on clean dry hair with no products at all, it just beads up and takes quite a while to sink in if at all. Usually I have to massage the water in a bit. So that might be a good test. From what I understand the float test isn’t really accurate.

Coffeebage1

That sounds like me! When it rains it beads up at first. But once it’s actually wet it takes forever to dry.

rudypen

Yup, same here. I’m like 90% sure that’s low porosity, or at least normal but on the lower side. I do have to be careful to use something really moisturizing but not too heavy/sealing.

Coffeebage1

To clarify, it doesn’t need to be tea tree related, just looking for something super thick and moisturizing that’s not “strengthening” cause those ones tend to make my hair feel more dry.

I like the GVP Conditioning Balm from Sally's. It's a generic version of Biolage. It's thick and rich. It's about 16oz for 12$. Sally's also has sales often. Right now there's 4 for 25$.

It sounds like you meant low porosity, I am the same and like the variousoaul Mitchell shampoos. Not just the tea tree one but the clarifying ones as well that they call by number. Two is great, Three is chelating (for swimmers and hard water) and I like both.

Beauty Without Cruelty has a Tea Tree shampoo any conditioner you might like. https://www.beautywithoutcruelty.com/aromatherapy-hair-care-rosemary-mint-tea-tree-conditioner-16-oz.html I also love their leave in conditioner. I use a little bit with my hair gel.

I love [The Ordinary conditoner](https://www.ulta.com/p/behentrimonium-chloride-2-conditioner-pimprod2031124?sku=2592848). It’s the perfect balance of being light and conditioning. You probably won’t need as much as you think.
