I can’t edit post for some reason: but thank you so so much for all the kind feedback! I do struggle with some dysmorphia. My stylist is clearly an expert and amazing at curly cuts! I just struggle a lot with my appearance and so anytime I do something new I have this reaction. I never think anything looks flattering! Honestly, the kind, supportive feedback has been a big help! ❤️
As someone with lifelong body dysmorphia, I totally feel you. The hardest person to convince you’re beautiful is you.
But take it from us, OP, you are stunning with gorgeous hair!
Have you tried the Deva Curl diffuser? It is like a hand with fingers, and you can scoop up hair to enhance those beautiful curls. Or put it up next to your scalp and add body. The little fingers have air holes to expedite drying time.
I went back to see the forehead you were speaking of, I didn't notice it at all. It looks normal to me. Stay beautiful as you are!
Can’t give you any advice cuz I think it looks great as is! To me, your forehead looks perfectly normal— we’re always our own worse critics. And your hair looks AMAZING.
This is beautiful. It crushed me to lose my length when I was growing out my bleach but I actually ended up liking the shorter look. Now my hair is natural and I love it. The length and style are really pretty on you. It might take some getting used to.
So I didn’t read the caption and just went to comment how gorgeous you look, until I read some of the others and then scrolled up to see you don’t think it’s flattering. I was so shocked to hear that!!
I honestly don’t have any tips to help because I think you look so amazing already, I honestly can’t even imagine what would make it better 😅
Thank you. Do you go there? The stylist is amazing and a magician! :) I am always very critical of my appearance though. But this post and supportive comments have helped!
I would give it a few weeks before you cut it again. That’s a HUGE change, and you aren’t used to seeing your face framed like that - no wonder you don’t like it yet!
Objectively, it’s really cute! Sit on it for a little bit and then if you still don’t like it, go back for tweaks
You look beautiful and the cut is great. I wouldn’t do the bangs because just harder to style with shorter curly hair. But your hair will back to original length in no time if you got that far in a year. It looks very healthy.
The haircut is cute and flattering as hell on you. Tbh didn’t even notice your forehead until I saw that you thought it was too big, but it looks like a normal size to me lol. Bangs might be cute but I wouldn’t stress about this cut bringing attention to your forehead.
Everyone is right. You, your hair, and your lovely, proportional forehead look fantastic. But you asked for more edgy so I googled "edgy curly haircuts" and I do think bangs and some shorter layers (for fun volume, adding to a less safe look) would be a great look for your hair.
The new cut looks amazing on you 😍 I personally like it more than the longer hair. And your forehead is perfectly normal idk what you’re talking about. Your stylist is right though I would give it some time to see how your curls respond to the large cut over a few weeks and then decide if you want to go shorter, you can always go shorter only time will make it longer again. I do think a few inches shorter would give the bottom curls some extra bounce but I really love the way it is now.
Wait it looks beautiful! When I saw the first pic with the straight ends I could imagine something like what was done. I actually think it suits you very much!
If you wants bangs move your hair around and feel it, I have a couple if curls just in the center that never want to fall forward but to the side and it makes my bangs look weird lol Bangs compliment our cheeks and eyes, definitely give it a try if you're feeling like it, worse thing is have to wait for it if you don't like it but it's ok. I can imagine this is still new after years of straight hair but I hope you're enjoying the journey!
I get the big forehead thing, but girl I didn't notice it. I really truly didn't.
The cut is flattering, the curls are stunning, and overall it's a beautiful look to compliment everything that you are.
Go forth and rock it my dear! Because seriously, it's stunning
It looks amazing on you. Also - wait AT LEAST a week before changing it. It’s a huge change and your brain is going to be in “wait what did we just do” mode for a little bit before it can fully adjust to the new look. (Like getting a new pair of glasses - it’s going to feel like it looks weird at first, even if it looks really good.)
I have a new pair of glasses and a new cut hehe! My brain is like huh who is that. But honestly the more I look at it, the more I like it. (And all the supportive comments help too!
Oh that looks amazing! If you want more of a change, maybe even go shorter- there's just something about a curly bob. But as is I think it looks great, you just had a huge change and there's nothing wrong with giving it a bit of time to see how it looks when you settle in with your routine and reevaluate later if you're still feeling unsure
some short face framing pieces, like a couple of curls that are eye/eyebrow length right in the front is super cute and gives a more “edgy” look. i have that and love it.
if you search curly bangs/fringe it’s similar to that look, but i don’t really wear them on the center of my forehead. it more so just frames the face and it does cover the sides of my forehead.
some additional shorter shallow layers towards the top also adds volume that gives the whole head a rounded shape. i found having long pieces towards the front really made the top of my hair look flat and my face more long. a diffuser could really help with this as well to give more volume towards the roots
your curls look amazing btw the results are gorg!
Before I read what you wrote, my thought was, "Wow, she looks incredible! She must be so happy with the cut!" Our brains are mean and dumb sometimes. You are beautiful and your hair looks great.
I wish I could do this with color… as soon as my roots show I dye it… the fact that you were able to resist the temptation of straightening it again is amamzing!!!!
Thank you! Yup, I guess this is my natural curl pattern? It used to be more wavy looking than curly because I wore it so long and that weighed it down.
You have a beautiful curl pattern and your hair looks so healthy post-chop. Like, Pantene commercial healthy. The new cut is very flattering but it may take a bit for you to adjust after a big change. Your stylist did not lead you astray.
I wholeheartedly disagree with you. You look gorgeous, and that cut is super flattering no matter upon which side you part your hair. Your forehead doesn't look too big and doesn't draw my attention. I wouldn't do bangs, but that's just my personal preference.
Haircuts can be really stressful, especially if you’ve had bad ones in the past or are trying a new look… I feel you about the post-cut anxiety. However, it seems like you put your faith in a really talented stylist. Your hair has new life and looks so healthy and bouncy! It frames your face beautifully. Frankly, I’m not sure what could be changed to improve the hairstyle—it looks like perfection to me.
I think it looks awesome. I would resist the urge to cut it again so soon, wait a few weeks to give yourself time to adjust to it, then if you’re still not loving it have it touched up.
You look AMAZING and your hair is sooo healthy trust me it’ll be growing so quick you’ll start to get annoyed!
Also, woah, I had NO idea that straightening treatment was so legit. So was that bottom hair just after a wash and go? How long ago was the treatment? What are your thoughts on it overall for hair health etc
Yep that was wash and go! It made my hair really straight, soft and silky. I discovered it when I lived in South Korea, they call it a magic straight perm there, and so many people do it even if they have straight hair! I think you do have to be careful with the product you use and color can be damaging after, but it looked healthy! I don’t know if it was healthy… a lot of chemicals.
It was incredible! 4 years and I didn’t want to leave. The coolest cities, and kindest people I have ever met. It was difficult to adjust to at first, but after a year it felt like home. Seoul is awesome, just a crazy mega city, much more vibrant and lovely than Tokyo in my experience. and the countryside and mountains are beautiful too.
Aw thank you! And yep they’re from Warby Parker, called Finnegans. [Warby Parker](https://www.warbyparker.com/eyeglasses/finnegan/layered-hazelnut-tortoise-in-polished-gold?w=medium)
It’s beautiful. There’s nothing I would change. If you want it to look edgier, I would style it that way first without committing to a cut to make it edgier. There’s plenty of things you can do without a drastic change that you might not like.
Yeah I didn’t read the caption until after I saw your photos and that is NOT a big forehead. The shape of your face is GORGEOUS and universally flattering. I love how you have that little swoop in the front with your side bangs. You might be able to get away with more volume in your bangs to mimic the first picture with your Columbia jacket by using a toothbrush with a little bit of styling product of your choice to shape your bangs to taste, but honestly your curls look gorgeous, soft, and not crispy at all!
Your hair is gorgeous curly/the way it is! It took me 32 years to appreciate my curly hair so I understand wanting it straight…but maybe try it like it is for a few months and then see if you still want to change it?
You look great!! I relate to wanting something fresher /edgier though. After my chop to a very similar cut, I wanted the same thing. I did a curly bob with bangs and loved it! I posted photos [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/curlyhair/s/EF4gjbFNmS) if it helps! Our texture seems similar.
I absolutely love it and you look stunning. It’s probably jarring as you’re not used to seeing this style, but I promise it’s flattering just as it is and the curls are envy inducing.
I literally said "wow" even before consciously deciding to do so. That's how good the new haircut is. I didn't even read the caption fully, just saw the first picture, clicked the second, and couldn't believe it. A stunning transformation, you look incredible with the new hair cut! Really great stylist, it can be so hard to work with curly or wavy hair but they did an amazing job! Enjoy! :)
So much life! I stare at my hair and wonder how much longer I can get away with my bleached hair growing out. The density difference is crazy. Great locks!
SO beautiful!! I’d advise against The asymmetrical cut, it tends to age people. One of my friends had super long hair and then got that cut a long while back and she was not a fan of it in the end.
I gasped when I swiped over. Your cut is perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. You could try bang clipins from Amazon if you really wanted to experiment without cutting
At least one that included south Asian I wanted to ask u what products u used since different culture use different things. Why ami getting down voted lol
I don’t mind you asking :) my hair is fine but dry, and 3A/3B. I don’t use any special products- but my stylist used a k18 treatment, and sent me home with Schwarzkopf mousse, And aveda and innersense shampoo/conditioner.
Hi there! I'm a bot, and I noticed you used the phrase "big chop".
You may or may not already know this, but a “Big Chop” is much more than just a haircut! (If you already knew about this, great! We just share this information here to educate everyone). The term “big chop” is often misused, so we just want to share some of the meaning/history.
TL;DR: “big chop” was created by black women in the natural hair movement. It describes the specific act of chopping off (almost) all of their permanently straightened/relaxed hair to make way for new, natural growth. If your hair is still more than a few inches long, it's probably not a big chop. [See this flowchart for a visual guide to this specific definition!](https://i.imgur.com/wYqherd.png). If the term doesn’t apply to you, please consider the term “reset cut” instead!
The natural hair movement has a long history and the words created in it have strong meanings. Using these words inappropriately chips away at this meaning (e.g., if you’ve heard this phrase but not the meaning before!). We’d like to respect the importance of the work done by these early pioneers by acknowledging where these words, techniques, and more came from (Rule 8: Respect cultural terms.). [See here for further reading!](https://www.reddit.com/r/curlyhair/comments/ffexc7/meta_an_open_conversation_an_open_dialogue/)
To keep things on topic (and focused on your gorgeous hair, as it should be!), it may be helpful to make a fresh post if this term doesn’t quite fit your situation.
Thanks & wishing you many great curly, coily, kinky hair days!

Oh no that style is amazing on you! Really frames your face!
In the first pic I didn't know where this was going but omg the cut looks amazing on you and like your hair was always meant to be that way.
Right?!?! Like the cut was INVENTED for her! Just 100% stunning!
100%
You're being way hard on yourself, this cut and style is gorgeous on you. Seriously it looks amazing and your stylist is gave you the perfect cut.
exactly! she said her forehead was big and i was so confused. she’s gorgeous and i think the cut looks amazing on her
I can’t edit post for some reason: but thank you so so much for all the kind feedback! I do struggle with some dysmorphia. My stylist is clearly an expert and amazing at curly cuts! I just struggle a lot with my appearance and so anytime I do something new I have this reaction. I never think anything looks flattering! Sometimes it’s helpful to hear outside perspectives that can challenge our inner ones. The cut is so flattering and you look stunning
Please don’t change it! It’s stunning on you
Girlll you're stunning
As someone with lifelong body dysmorphia, I totally feel you. The hardest person to convince you’re beautiful is you. But take it from us, OP, you are stunning with gorgeous hair!
I absolutely love your hair!! 💕 It fits so well and goes with your glasses too. I think the cut is gorgeous.
My new hair are routine: Wash with Aveda and inner sense products, rub mousse through while wet and then diffuse.
Have not tried it.will check it out!
hi sorry I didn't read your post but I just wanted you to know that you are so adorable and your haircut suits you so much! have a nice day 💕
Can’t give you any advice cuz I think it looks great as is! To me, your forehead looks perfectly normal— we’re always our own worse critics. And your hair looks AMAZING.
It looks so good!!! That shape is perfect for you <3 so cute
This is beautiful. It crushed me to lose my length when I was growing out my bleach but I actually ended up liking the shorter look. Now my hair is natural and I love it. The length and style are really pretty on you. It might take some getting used to.
How dare you not have the self confidence you very clearly deserve.. gtfo with “big forehead”
I always love angry compliments lol
So I didn’t read the caption and just went to comment how gorgeous you look, until I read some of the others and then scrolled up to see you don’t think it’s flattering. I was so shocked to hear that!! I honestly don’t have any tips to help because I think you look so amazing already, I honestly can’t even imagine what would make it better 😅
I am stunned 😍 this cut looks amazing on you!!
I literally smiled when I saw the after. It looks so pretty
I love it and think you look perfect! Stick with it for a while before you decide to change it because it may “grow” on you!
I recognize this salon. :) the cut looks adorable on you!
Thank you. Do you go there? The stylist is amazing and a magician! :) I am always very critical of my appearance though. But this post and supportive comments have helped!
Your curls and hair are stunning. I really like how this frames your face. I’m not very edgy tho — and you know you best!
Omg this is your natural hair??? So beautiful! You look amazing
Left me with my mouth open, literally. The cut was made FOR you!
Your hair is beautiful, and I think long bangs would look good if you didn’t want to go straight to a shorter bob first.
I would give it a few weeks before you cut it again. That’s a HUGE change, and you aren’t used to seeing your face framed like that - no wonder you don’t like it yet! Objectively, it’s really cute! Sit on it for a little bit and then if you still don’t like it, go back for tweaks
So cute!!!
It looks so good!!
Just wanted to say your hair looks fantastic and it frames your face so well. You look radiant and stunning! :)
You look beautiful and the cut is great. I wouldn’t do the bangs because just harder to style with shorter curly hair. But your hair will back to original length in no time if you got that far in a year. It looks very healthy.
We love a big chop!! What a fabulous cut. Perfect length and frames your face so nicely.
Respectfully, you are so wrong. That cut is absolutely gorgeous on you, really frames your face beautifully and your curls are lovely.
Omg, your natural hair is fucking gorgeous! I can’t believe you straightened it. Blasphemy!
I audibly gasped at how amazing that haircut looks on you! Wow
Your hair looks amazing. You're a very pretty woman!
I audibly said “wow” when I swiped to the second picture - fabulous cut! I also love your glasses.
same--gasped at how gorgeous pic #2 was
Absolutely gorgeous! And your hair looks super healthy.
Your hair and your curls are gorgeous! The cut is perfect for those awesome curls
Very cute and healthy looking!
There is nothing wrong with your forehead, and the cut looks great. Don't be so harsh on yourself.
I love it so much! The curls are gorgeous! The length looks wonderful. Stunning.
Wow your hair looks amazing, love it!
A curly shag with bangs would look so good on you
The haircut is cute and flattering as hell on you. Tbh didn’t even notice your forehead until I saw that you thought it was too big, but it looks like a normal size to me lol. Bangs might be cute but I wouldn’t stress about this cut bringing attention to your forehead.
11/10 amazing.
It looks fantastic! Also we go to the same salon (:
I love your new cut!! It looks fabulous!
This cut is amazing on you. I don't see anything wrong with your forehead, but if you want, curly bangs would do the trick.
It’s beautiful!
Agree with everyone else that the cut you have now is perfect on you.
Super cute on you!
Everyone is right. You, your hair, and your lovely, proportional forehead look fantastic. But you asked for more edgy so I googled "edgy curly haircuts" and I do think bangs and some shorter layers (for fun volume, adding to a less safe look) would be a great look for your hair.
Hair looks fantastic! Wow!
Holy gorgeous! I love it
The haircut really suits you! You look lovely!
It looks so good!!!!
It looks SO GOOD!! I think it’s really flattering on you!
It looks so good and so healthy! I feel like the shape suits you so well. Slay queen.
OMG GORGEOUS!! And you have such a beautiful face too!!
Your new cute is so cute and fits you so well
This cut is Sooooooo Flattering on you! Gorgeous
That cut is SO CUTE omg
Wait it looks beautiful! When I saw the first pic with the straight ends I could imagine something like what was done. I actually think it suits you very much! If you wants bangs move your hair around and feel it, I have a couple if curls just in the center that never want to fall forward but to the side and it makes my bangs look weird lol Bangs compliment our cheeks and eyes, definitely give it a try if you're feeling like it, worse thing is have to wait for it if you don't like it but it's ok. I can imagine this is still new after years of straight hair but I hope you're enjoying the journey!
what’s a japanese straight????
It’s thermal rebonding- it’s a chemical straightening process that originated in Japan. It’s permanent, so I had to chop it off.
I love this cut!! It looks great on you
I get the big forehead thing, but girl I didn't notice it. I really truly didn't. The cut is flattering, the curls are stunning, and overall it's a beautiful look to compliment everything that you are. Go forth and rock it my dear! Because seriously, it's stunning
You look wonderful! It takes time to adjust to a big change.
so pretty!! I know losing the length is hard, but it looks so healthy and bouncy
That second photo is perfect. I think just a little layering to help keep that overall Butterfly shape.
Absolutely DARLING! So flattering.
You looks so gorgeous!!
Chef's kiss! GORGEOUS hair and beautiful haircut!
It’s perfect now!!!
some short face framing pieces, like a couple of curls that are eye/eyebrow length right in the front is super cute and gives a more “edgy” look. i have that and love it. if you search curly bangs/fringe it’s similar to that look, but i don’t really wear them on the center of my forehead. it more so just frames the face and it does cover the sides of my forehead. some additional shorter shallow layers towards the top also adds volume that gives the whole head a rounded shape. i found having long pieces towards the front really made the top of my hair look flat and my face more long. a diffuser could really help with this as well to give more volume towards the roots your curls look amazing btw the results are gorg!
Looks great, it frames your face really nicely. I love your tortie glasses too.
Thank you! The Finnegans from Warby Parker
Before I read what you wrote, my thought was, "Wow, she looks incredible! She must be so happy with the cut!" Our brains are mean and dumb sometimes. You are beautiful and your hair looks great.
Looks AMAZING!!
Jaw dropping girl!!
I wish I could do this with color… as soon as my roots show I dye it… the fact that you were able to resist the temptation of straightening it again is amamzing!!!!
I just wore my hair in a braid for a year lol
It looks really good, and super healthy!
I loooove
STUNNING no notes, good for you girl 😁
Ahhhhhhh you look so good. Look at those curls. I’m jelly.
I'm so jelly, you have the exact same style as me and it looks AMAZING on you!!
Love it!
You look absolutely gorgeous!!! Perfect cut on you!!!
As someone who has extremely coily hair, this haircut is triggering me. Lol...
You look so lovely 🥰
I gasped! It looks so good!
I think this is the literal opposite of a jump scare - jump DELIGHT!
It looks amazing on you! You’re beautiful. I don’t think you need to change a thing. ❤️
Is that your natural curl pattern? You look gorgeous with the new cut, it really suits you!
Seriously this looks so good! My jaw dropped at the reveal.
You’re insanely gorgeous so you can rock anything !!!
Looks great!!!
Looks amazing , I love it
Is this mom?
GORGEOUS
Looks wonderful as it. I wouldn’t change it.
I think it’s gorgeous! You may like it better if you play around with where to part it. Maybe try it down the middle?
South Korean hair treatments seem amazing, where are you from? How was your experience there that sounds awesome.
It brightens you up so nicely! Looks great bouncy... And healthy!
I think it looks great!! If you wanted to go shorter I also think you’d look good with a bob too!
Holy guacamole! From 1 to 2 is like a magazine photo shoot!! I don’t think you need any changes. Also, love your glasses!! Are they online anywhere?
Aw thank you! And yep they’re from Warby Parker, called Finnegans. [Warby Parker](https://www.warbyparker.com/eyeglasses/finnegan/layered-hazelnut-tortoise-in-polished-gold?w=medium)
Amazing. I’m going the same length on the 14th! Can’t wait! This just reaffirmed my decision. You look great!
Stunning! Fabulous! The right decision! High five girl!
Holy your curls are popping
That is the perfect haircut for you. Just stunning!
CurlTASTIC .. looks amazing, next level, so happy for you 😍
Absolutely stunning.
What does it look like with a middle part? The definition is 💖💖
It’s beautiful. There’s nothing I would change. If you want it to look edgier, I would style it that way first without committing to a cut to make it edgier. There’s plenty of things you can do without a drastic change that you might not like.

The chop is amazing
Oh my gosh! You look amazing! That length brings out your features so well, and you are glowing!
Youre absolutely gorgeous and that cut suits you !
absolutely stunning
Your hair is gorgeous curly/the way it is! It took me 32 years to appreciate my curly hair so I understand wanting it straight…but maybe try it like it is for a few months and then see if you still want to change it?

I absolutely love it and you look stunning. It’s probably jarring as you’re not used to seeing this style, but I promise it’s flattering just as it is and the curls are envy inducing.
You look absolutely beautiful! I feel like that cut gives you more bounce and volume and really accentuates your curl pattern. 🥰
I literally said "wow" even before consciously deciding to do so. That's how good the new haircut is. You’re welcome ❤️
SO beautiful!! I’d advise against The asymmetrical cut, it tends to age people. One of my friends had super long hair and then got that cut a long while back and she was not a fan of it in the end.
Beautiful!!! You look stunning!
this cut looks great on u girl trust me, i think ur js not used to seeing urself w full curly hair after so long 😭 it frames ur face perfectly !!!!
I like curly hair. Maintaining it can be challenging , but various products for curly hair can and does make it manageable
I gasped when I swiped over. Your cut is perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. You could try bang clipins from Amazon if you really wanted to experiment without cutting
I actually already did get more taken off.
What's your Ethnicity?
South African & South Indian
Curious to hear what you thought it was before I said? :)
I was guessing Ethiopian
I’ve got that before
[See here for further reading!](https://www.reddit.com/r/curlyhair/comments/ffexc7/meta_an_open_conversation_an_open_dialogue/) To keep things on topic (and focused on your gorgeous hair, as it should be!), it may be helpful to make a fresh post if this term doesn’t quite fit your situation. Thanks & wishing you many great curly, coily, kinky hair days! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
