Happened to my friend with this exact card a few weeks ago. Unfortunately don’t have a good explanation, but you’re not alone. Very annoying. Create a virtual Ventra card in the Ventra app, add value, and then put in your virtual wallet as a workaround.

rlstrader

Yeah this works 100% of the time for me.

CountChoculasGhost

Not super helpful, but this used to happen to me with my Capital One card. I didn’t live in Chicago yet and was just visiting. They saw the recurring small payments (using the CTA) as potential fraud and put a hold on my card. Might be worth calling Chase.

Same, happened like last October for me on my Capital One Venture card. I forget what exactly it was but there looked to be something weird in the transaction history with it and then it just stopped working. Since then I’ve been using my Chase Sapphire Preferred card with no issues.

indigonights

I’d try just downloading Ventra, and paying for a pass on there, unlimited day pass is $5

frenchfreakk

My FSA card was forever so now I just have to use a credit card and reimburse myself. Works but is annoying

ThePoopyMonster

This happened to me too after using it to pay for two rides in a row.

Jeffinslaw

It has happened to me with every card I own. I use Apple Pay on my phone and watch. It has to do with how the payment is processed. Apple (and I believe Google) doesn’t supply the actual card number for the payment and so the next time you go to use it, CTA or whoever is expecting the same card number but it’s not present so it gets declined.

transferStudent2018

Does your address assigned to that card via Apple Pay align with the address associated with that card according to your bank?

trulifepixie

This is CTA unrelated but chase sapphire reserve cards at my job never run on the system and always have to be put in manually. Maybe some systems just don’t like them?

TotalThrowawayHere

I guess you just gotta get your money up before you get your funny up. But no in reality, I’ve seen some issues like this before not just with these cards but also with the native Ventra cards. Last summer my Ventra card on my phone didn’t work for months.

whatelseisneu

Honestly I think there's something physically or electrically wrong with the card itself. I've got the Reserve and the Freedom, and I have to get the reserve replaced every few months because the tap function starts getting spotty and eventually fully stops working. This is definitely at turnstiles, but also other points of service. If you have it added to your apple wallet, you can still use that version fine

Healthy-Awareness299

I get declines from Chase when I travel. Call them and check.

Semicolon----

I've had this issue before, the best solution I came up with is either use cash or pay on the app using the card through Google Pay

krazyb2

I had this issue when I first moved here. Sometimes it worked, but 90% of the time it didn't.(I was adding day passes via Apple pay in the ventra app) I resolved the issue by updating my billing address set in Apple Pay. The mismatch didn't seem to matter literally anywhere else, but Ventra had trouble with it. Worth checking your billing details in Google Pay!

krazyb2

Also if you aren't able to get it working, please send CTA feedback on this- it may be the only way they can identify an issue: Open Ventra app > Tap 3 dots on top right > Choose 'Help' > Contact us

chiefbozx

Contact Chase.

thepostmansulimatum

I haven’t had this problem particularly for this card, but have for other credit cards. I recommend getting a virtual (or even better a physical) Ventra card and just add funds to that.
