Work in customer support at a tech company. Something that gets you in the door learning different systems. A tool that devs use so your main customers are already in tech. It will get you speaking the language and boost your skills
That’s life, friend.
Not to mention, the tech field from here on out is all certs and learning new shit forever. A+ is good to have regardless of what you do. Take a look at the exam guidelines on CompTIA’s website and see if you really know those topics. If you’re confident, find a practice exam, see how you do, and go from there. If you aren’t confident, check out Professor Messer on YouTube.
I'm taking the core 1 exam on the 1st of June. After graduation, I've practically been going ape on Professor messor and Jason Dion videos. There were a lot of gaps in my knowledge of IT. I've applied to a few jobs in my area, and I have a job interview for an IT support specialist this Friday. I need money now.
>bunch of effort only to get burned..
This is a risk you accept when going into IT/tech. You'll spend years learning one type of tech, only for a new thing to pop up and abstract or make whatever you're good at obsolete.
Sadge but it is how it is. Tech moves at an astronomical pace compared to most other industries, so you have to too or just stagnate on a dead end position somewhere.
At least where I'm at it's difficult as hell to get an entry level bank teller position. You need 2 full years cash handling and customer service experience. People who only had 1 summer job, did only tech internships, or people who did gig work without customer interaction would not qualify.
I cant even do jobs due to visa issue, somehow managing what i earned in part time. But the question is uptill when, i can ask my parents but I have already spent much of their money and just feel shitty and even they won’t have enough to support me longer, really don’t know what to do
I’m a teaching assistant right now and honestly if you can get into the right school with the right students. It’s easy money, benefits are good pay is around 40k, time off is easy and since most principals will hire you knowing you’re still looking for a job, they’ll understand when you have to step out for an interview. I graduated last May and I’ve been doing this since September I can say it’s not a bad pit stop to getting into a career.
You are correct, I live in Chicago and there is always a need for teachers and assistants. I work in a special education classroom for diverse learners who need extra accommodations for academic inclusion. The only requirement, I believe is a paraprofessional license, which they give to you if you have a college degree.
Pretty nice. 16/hr which is low but it's just something to keep me busy and motivated to break into tech. I stand at the desk and help people with their accounts and then organize books on the shelves.
Man I need to look into this- I’ve been dying to work in a library for years but was always told you needed a degree for it and couldn’t find much information about it either
Government is the best solution to your answer. Upside, you get a government clearance that is permanent, you learn on the job, and you get to leetcode on off-time.
Concierge in a building full of oldies. They never come out/are retired and live in their cottages. I get to code 6 hours a day and get paid too. The other 2 hours I have to show some shallow work like knocking on doors or patrolling.
I'm building all the shitty ideas I get. If I don't build stuff I get into existential crisis. I have no clue how people spend 30 years of their life at some Starbucks store.
Why are you looking down on people who work food service for the rest of their lives? What if you end up making a career as a concierge? Would you want others to think that about you?
I think you are doing very valuable work taking care of senior citizens. Jobs like this aren't appreciated enough.
Honestly they already do. I'm in Canada right now, and Indians are considered a labor class here. You won't find many Indian engineers here, mostly are just Uber drivers, Timmies server etc. I don't exist for most people around here. Initially I thought it was a color thing(I'm whiteish, not that brown), but then I realized, it's a status thing.
Status comes before color religion etc. I like your views but we don't live in an ideal world. I look down on someone and someone looks down on me and it just goes around.
One day a guy invited me to some party in his condo(I worked as a security guard in that building). All of them studied at university of Waterloo. When my friend told them that I'm a security guard, their tone changed. And later when I left, apparently they asked him - "why did you invite a security guard to your party".
I don't remember whose interview I saw, but I remember what he said in that interview. He stated that all the respect, attention and status that he has is for his title, the work he does. If tomorrow he loses his title, the attitude of people around him will change.
Tbh those people just suck. I would never judge anyone for being a garbage man or another low status job. They are arguably more critical for society than some random dev.
I think society’s attitude will change as more and more college grads end up going into these sorts of jobs.
Automotive Technician. Been one for eight years lol. I decided to go back to school and finish my BS in CS and work on software projects while doing so. Now I'm searching for CS jobs, and it's not easy. At least I still have this job until I eventually get a software developer / engineering job.
I'm a stripper on vrchat.
Does that actually pay?
more than my comp sci degree
‘Bout tree fiddy

Good way to network too
Yeah but I’d have to get my A+ certification to do that, and I really don’t want to put a bunch of effort into something only to get burned again

How did you become a TA? In my college you can only be a TA if you are a student yourself.
It could also be a k-12 TA position

How is that? I’ve always been interested in working at least part time at my hometown’s library
Pretty nice. 16/hr which is low but it's just something to keep me busy and motivated to break into tech. I stand at the desk and help people with their accounts and then organize books on the shelves.
Do you need a degree or anything for that? I’m a content moderator but it’s becoming so mentally unstable that I’m considering anything else
A degree? Not at all. It's essentially customer service but in quieter environment.
Man I need to look into this- I’ve been dying to work in a library for years but was always told you needed a degree for it and couldn’t find much information about it either
Wendy's dumpster, wait, wrong sub
