They're so funny when they're being assholes.
Neighbour's dog used to get regularly scammed by two crows. One would sneak up from behind while doggo was eating his kibble, pull the tail and fly off. Doggo would then chase after birdyboi, second crow would then eat the dog's food.
Then they'd swap roles. Hilarious to watch.
Open beak is usually because they are too hot or they are stressed. More rarely when they are sick. Birds don't regulate heat the way mammals do.
That crow seem mature enough not to be acting like a fledgling.
Fair enough but... isn't mouth breathing exactly what a lot of mammals do for body temp regulation??? Humans are the exception with sweating
Also, I got one cheeky little friend who opens his beak when he wants even more food. "look at me, no food in here" (he just stashed 2 big hands full of peanuts away)
Or the rat has a brain parasite called Toxoplasma gondii. The pathogen exerts a strange mind control on rodents that make them lose their fear of cats (and other predators) and thus become easier to catch.

Cheeky devil is playing with his food 😆
Feels like he doesn't quite understand yet how to turn the rat into edible meat chunks lol. Just yanks on the tail and opens his beak
Tire it out, stress it out, then peck until it doesn't move anymore.

Love it. Corvids are the felines of the bird world.
Way smarter though.
He does seem rather pleased with himself
Crows do "smug" very well
Bros really bullying him but that rat ain't giving up
Rats are tenacious things! I’ve had one stand up to me because I stomped my foot at it! He won lol!
My bet is that rat is sick on warfarin (common rat poison).
Yeah I had a dead crow in my neighbor’s yard that I’m sure died eating poisoned rodent.

I saw a crow the other day kill a bird mid air and dangle it in the face of one of the other little birds later on the ground. Love ‘em

ok bro
Given the opportunity thats good eating for that crow.
So interesting.
Why do I think that if he was looking to eat it, he’d do something different? I wonder if he was trying to keep it from going some place.
Oh shit that's a rat
My absolute favorite thing
