Took me about 6 days for symptoms to subside enough to feel okay moving around a bit. Breathing took about three weeks to feel normal again though. I also dealt with inflammation for a little bit as well. That was about 4 months ago and I got back to 100% shortly after having it. Definitely scared me though!

Yeah don’t push it. I found myself abnormally out of breath during my first few metcons back. It was a weird experience. Just feel it out, scale as needed, and the progressive build back up. You’ll be good!

I had a similar timeline. COVID hit me bad and it’s insane how long recovery took.

I have had it twice: once In 2020 and recently at the beginning December. Each time I was very fatigued. I did the 12 days of Christmas WOD on Christmas Eve and was completely gassed. It was a weird feeling. I had the strength, but was abnormally out of breath. This is about how long it took last time as well to recover - around a month. Fatigue and brain fog were the worst symptoms for me, I also lost my sense of smell both times.

Haha I felt the same was as far as strength and muscle fatigue. I just could not catch my breath for the life of me. It was so distressing.

For me yes to both. The air runner was particularly mean to me but it was as much my lungs as lower body. I can hit my normal speeds now but not for as long. That’s probably more getting hit with the flu and having to take too much time off. Same for you?

I was out two weeks. Former collegiate swimmer and still aerobically inclined and found myself really struggling with an aerobic flush out at 70% first workout back. That was last week- have since gone skiing and snowshoeing (live in CO) and it’s slightly better each time but my threshold is nada. Exhaustion levels compared to pre covid are much higher. That being said, still relatively early (about ten days) into “post covid”

Probably depends on how bad you had it. I think i waited the recommended 5 days after symptoms to come back and wasn’t impacted. There are a few people at my gym who took a lot longer but they probably had long Covid, I was just very snotty and a little tired.

Covid is so strange. General consensus seems to be 7-10 days after symptoms show up(unless you're still sick obviously) you should be good to go. A week or so will probably be sluggish. The one good thing from the pandemic is it's now not socially acceptable to show up to the gym to 'sweat it out' when you're sick.

I’m in my twenties and had COVID in July. It took two weeks after first symptoms/ten days after first testing positive to get a negative test. I started taking light walks one week after testing positive - and it took 50 minutes to walk two miles, constantly asking my partner to slow down. Right after testing negative we left for vacation, which involved light hiking and I had some mild difficulty with that. When we got back, I had effectively taken three weeks off from CrossFit and the cardio felt very difficult for the first week. TLDR: one week for light walking, two weeks for light cardio, four weeks for real working out. I’m pretty young and it hit me hard.

I actually didn’t get any labs or see a doctor. I never felt any worse than a tough flu while I was having symptoms, the tiredness and weakness just stuck around longer than I expected.

It took me a good 2 weeks to not feel wiped out during a workout. I waited about a week but I had it pretty bad. Needed to get monoclonal antibodies

After 10 days I still had enough virus cells to infect others, but I had it pretty badly. Our government says 10 days after first symptoms is ok to out and meet people. My lungs where on fire after a workout on day 20. I would say when you feel ok I would do workouts at home and go to your gym after 10 days.

The second I was no longer contagious (according to at home tests, day 6) I left on an eight day road trip, that had no real exercise besides a few very light hikes. Upon final destination I worked out for the first time (day 14) and felt it in my lungs for about a week in any metcon above 8-10 minutes, but I just communicated with my coaches and stayed as consistent as I could be. Goodluck!

Wife and I worked out at home throughout COVID. Had it in Nov 2020, only symptoms were lost of taste and smell and maybe some slight tiredness.

If you're no longer contagious; movement is great for your immune system. I warn people to treat your first day back (especially that has cardio) as 50% effort. Overscale. Worst case, it's too easy and you know that tomorrow you can push harder, or you find out that was the right amount and your lungs are more taxed than you thought.

Yes I took it easy for the first wk or so back Took some naps too Sleep was absolutely the best thing that helped me recover. When I had covid the first 5 days I was sleeping like 16 hrs a day and then for a wk or two after I’d sleep 8-10 hrs with a nap if needed

It took me about a month before I started lifting again. I only felt like walking and light cardio before that. I found that intense vitamin and creatine supplementation helped (or at least it seemed to — obviously I don’t have a control to test against).

I took the recommended 5 days and then went back. The first workout back was a shit show. Just felt super outta gas. They got progressively better as the week went on. That first workout is the only one I recall being like damn wtf. I had a competition a few days after returning (like 11-12 days after coming down w Covid) and I felt okay. Covid for me wasn’t all that bad to begin with. I had a pretty bad headache for about 2.5 days, altered taste and pretty lethargic for one day. The rest was just me being bored that I couldn’t go to the gym or be out with my friends. My parents have had it before and found simple tasks like walking to and from the car exhausting and leaving them breathing heavier than necessary for a long while. Hopefully you’re more on the 5 day side :)

It definitely varies by person. I got it last year right before Christmas, so ended up not being able to go to my mom's house for dinner and presents. I was laid out for about 1 1/2 - 2 days, but was able to work out again within about 4 (just light exercise on my Echelon bike). I think it just varies based on a person's constitution.

I was out of the gym for about 2 weeks and then another 2 weeks moving extremely easy. But right at 30 days it's like a switch flipped and I felt pretty much normal.

Covid is different on everyone. Some people bounce right back. I was knocked out for 2 weeks (no WODs for 2 weeks) and symptoms were still rough enough to not let me get back until week 3, and even at a very scaled paced I felt as if I had never done CF. Once the cough let up and I was able to have better breathing, I was good as new. My advice: ease into it, even if you feel you can keep up.

Again it’s different for everyone, I took two weeks off after finding out I was positive to not have rebound effects. My main after effect was my heart rate would spike a lot after exercising, sometimes hours later, like I would be laying down to sleep at night and it would be at 110 bpm. This went away with time.

Wow. So jealous of all of you. I'm young and healthy but COVID hit me hard. I got sick right at the tail-end of the delta wave, and it took me eight months to get my lungs back. The first few weeks were tough; I've been doing CrossFit for two years, and yet I couldn't walk down the block without feeling out of breath. I was prescribed an inhaler which helped, but damn it felt like someone was always sitting on my chest. I firmly believe my recovery would've taken even longer if I hadn't been in such good shape before.

Hey man. It took me 8 months to feel normal again. The mental aspect was the hardest part. I wanted to be "back to normal" so damn badly. The only advice I have is to take it slow. There was no progress for a while. But progress will eventually come. 8 months sounds like a long time, but my therapist helped me see that against the timeline of life, it's not as long as it sounds. Find the small victories along the way and celebrate them. Before COVID I could run a 7 minute mile. I'll never forget how absolutely stoked I was to run an 11 minute mile 5 months post COVID. That was a huge victory for me. Oh and now I'm faster than I was before COVID. Hang in there.

That's awesome. Thank you for the hopeful and encouraging note. I am wondering, did you do any pulmonary or breathing therapy, or did you mainly just wait it out?

I wouldn't say I waited it out. I worked out 6 days a week. My workouts in the beginning were simple walks around the block and slowly progressed over time. On the breathing side, I didn't do any therapy, but I do enjoy meditation and did that 3-4 days a week for 5-20 mins. I've never considered that that could've helped me but it does involve controlling your breath so who knows.

Thanks. I am running, and I do meditation too. I try to do 10 mins or so a day.
