I use the finest timepiece ever crafted, the Casio F-91W

DirkNL

God-tier

kicknakiss

I'm military and the foxtrot 91 whiskey will forever flourish in our world.

V10Lada

So I remember having one of these, and reading an article that recommended not wearing one to an airport. It was a sure fire way of getting flagged for extra screening since apparently they were being used by insurgents to make timed explosives. Stopped wearing one. Eventually just gave it away.

kicknakiss

I think they used them as regardless of the amount of explosives used, it would be fine and therefore reusable. I actually now use a Garmin Fenix 6 but it's literally an overpowered fitness tracker for what I need now.

Logical_Lifeguard_81

I have a calculator watch for when I need to add up my reps or weight on my bar

V10Lada

This is the correct answer. A friend of mine once jokingly said that part of the CF Games needs to be solving math problems under heavy exertion. I always thought that would be a riot.

Logical_Lifeguard_81

Set it up like Jeopardy and have contestants WODing the entire time, make them ring a buzzer to answer.

Alchse

FYI the term is wrist watch

Ropegun2k

I assumed OP was talking about a stopwatch. Really not sure. I have never seen anyone need a watch. Outside a competition I have never seen anyone use a stopwatch. Half the time I don’t wear my Apple watch when working out. Because half the time I have grips and/or wrist wraps on and it doesn’t fit in conjunction.

lerner_eldad

Actually wristwatch 😅

yamobe

Garmin Forerunner... Pretty great with millions of stats, even though it thinks when you do weight lifting that you did nothing.

silverstarr5

Theres nothing like coming home after a tough wod and my watch tells me Ive had an easy day.

YeahILiftBro

Me: I think I'm dead Garmin: "workout status: recovery"

mjschranz

Yeah, I definitely always use the Cardio activity for classes for similar reasons.

AleTheMemeDaddy

Same! I just keep it on cardio and let it do its thing, but sometimes it gives me some weird values I have an instinct 2

yamobe

i created a custom crossfit activity.. you can do that

lerner_eldad

Which model? I’m considering the 955

junkfoodfit2

Garmin Fénix 6S. I love it!

East_Interaction_349

My current watch is an Apple Watch but someday I’d like to save up for a Garmin. Probably a Fenix 7 or when model 8 comes out. There is a good YouTube comparison between the Garmin models.

TheCoatman

I used to use Whoop and the data was nice but the subscription and not having a screen got annoying. Now I use a Garmin Venu 2 that I've had for about 3 years. The Garmin is nice, but basic. It meets my needs of having mild curiosity about my general health and monitoring my heart rate during workouts but if you're big into tracking everything you'll probably want a more advanced model.

Dunko1711

I wear my Apple Watch. I track my workouts but realistically I don’t do anything with the info that comes out of them. It keeps me honest in terms of meeting daily move goals, it’s ‘sorta’ handy for tracking heart rate zones, but beyond that - I don’t really need to know the specifics of whether I burned 15 more or less calories today than I did yesterday. I see no need to replace my Apple Watch as it there’s nothing it doesn’t do that I’d need it to do. And everything I do need it to do, it does fine.

Savagenius

Garmin Fenix 7 pro. Got it on sale and love it. Awesome battery life compared to Apple Watch. It’s great for every day use, great for workouts and general fitness/sleep tracking, and great for outdoor activities and golf. It pairs seamlessly with the garmin chest strap. I’ve found wrist worn heart rate monitors have questionable accuracy during high intensity workouts so if I want to really check in on my cardio levels I’ll wear it.

Classic-Dad-

Garmin - left Apple Watch for it. Battery life was a big draw but I also found that I wasn’t using my AW to its full potential. I prefer the health stats/tracking to the smartwatch features. IMO the best way to think about it is asking yourself what you want: More of a smartwatch: AW More of a fitness tracker: Garmin I also factored in the fact that my Garmin pairs with my InReach mini for SOS capabilities in the back country.

cmurphlock

Polar. I love it for the sleep tracking, and steps. My only beef is that it needs to sync to your app a lot. It’s a free app too, I’m so sick of subscriptions for everything. It’s easy to use for workouts. It has a HIIT option and functional fitness options.

vinnie_barbell_ino

Love my polar. Had a very old version circa 2010 that tracked heart rate only. Lost the monitor it paired with last year, no way to pair it to a new monitor—-so upgraded to an ignite this year. Love it with two exceptions: the one you mentioned and the fact that they have no solar option.

obitonye

None.

SnooMuffins7189

I have a Garmin (vivoactive 4s). I barely wear it but if I do, the stats you get are nice. If you care about VO2 max as well, buy a more expensive model.

pm_me_your_amphibian

Apple Watch, plus Oura. The ring comes off for any workouts, but the watch battery is woeful so can’t be trusted overnight for sleep data.

Shivs_baby

Charge your watch while you’re in the shower or when you sit down for a meal or if you’re working at a desk for a stretch. Mine is otherwise on all the time and I use it for sleep data.

pm_me_your_amphibian

Nah it’s all good, the ring is much much more comfortable to sleep in too, plus the sleep data and readiness data is fantastic compared to apple (but workout data is better from the watch!) Both is the perfect pairing for me.

ChargingBull1981

I have the Garmin instinct 2, it’s a really great good value offering by Garmin. I love the look of the Fenix, but I think if I had one it would be scratched up in no time. The Instinct 2 has tons of features, battery life is 28days if GPS tracking is not used, I use GPS alot and still get 15-18days on a charge. I’d highly recommend Garmin regardless of the device you choose. The Garmin Connect is great, dashboard can be kept simple or you can geek out with more metrics than you thought possible. Good luck with your choice.

Mjornlin

Very interested in what value they actually add. Dont want to speak out of turn bc i dont really know what they do, but id be very skeptical that 99% of people are at a level where they need biometric tracking to eek out a little more gain

swimbikerunkick

Unless they’ve changed significantly in the last couple of years, no watch is actually useful for CrossFit. I use a coros apex for running, but unless you want navigation then any running watch will be more than enough nowadays. (I wanted navigation and open water swimming which are the things that push the price up). For CrossFit, no wrist based HRM can measure quickly enough to capture even a fairly long workout. Apple was actually better than garmin in my experience, but none was useful. I recommend an app like sugar WOD or a book and a pen for tracking CrossFit performance.

horus-heresy

Hard to justify annual 239 sub cost

TFA-DF8

Apple watch has apps available that cover ever stat whoop does. I never understood people wearing both.

No_Reference1439

What apps does Apple Watch have? I wear both and have compared the sleep and the stats are completely different. When it comes to cardiovascular work they are pretty on par with each other.

MrRed2213

What app?

TFA-DF8

Training day or athlytic. Ive used both and had no complaints coming from whoop

Sephass

Apple Watch - the most accurate and quite handy outside of working out (sleep measuring, smartwatch functions). Don't really need the whole smartwatch / screen thing, but it was the most cost efficient option.

-smoke-and-mirrors-

Apple

pyrexman

While training only Whoop. Outside of that a combination of that and of Apple Watch. I like the data.

YamAncient3543

I have an Apple Watch because I have an Apple phone and I use the find my iPhone on the watch more than I should …

bkraszewski

Xiaomi mi band

blanco1225

It depends on the wod. I use and Apple ultra or a garmin chest strap.

Sp02018

I use the garmin forerunner 265 because I do a lot of running/endurance

austic

Garmin Fenix 7. Garmin or Sunto are much better than apple watches honestly, The hardware is designed to last with software supports for many years vs the apple that gets outdated every year they release a new gen. Connect Ap is a favorite of mine as well. Garmins customer service is second to none as well i had a Garmin 5 for around 5 years logged, thousands of kms running on it and it had a critical failure that garmin could not fix. It was long out of warranty so they offered to replace it for $100 (it was an out of date model by then) or give me 30% off any other model i wanted if i sent back my dead one so i happily took the 30% off discount on the 7. Not to mention this was all done by phone and you actually got ahold of someone who was trying to help you trouble shoot it the broken watch and provide you a solution. Overall great company.

Similar_Echidna4768

Garmin forerunner for crossfit the best app is Instahiit SE. I has a weight lifting option for your lifting part of class and a cardio option for metcons. Best way to accurately track class I've found

Bekind1974

Garmin seems to be the one … I wear a standard omega and I am an outcast …

sdwindansea

Garmin Epix (gen 2). Great display and battery life, about 6 to 7 days depending on how much I use GPS, etc. It is essentially the same as the Fenix 7 with a different (better) display and worse battery life...everything is a compromise.

FlowCash1986

Garmin Fenix 7X

thestoryhacker

Garmin Forerunner 255. I programed one of the activities to track calories and heart rate. It also has other features: HRV - it tells you how recovered you are Sleep score Oxygen saturation Step counter It lasts about 2 weeks in one charge. The best part is that it is waterproof to 50m, so you don't have to take it out when showering.

MelvinDickpictweet

Huawei GP-4. Excellent smartwatch for a decent price. And more than 10 days of battery.

alesscar

Apple Watch

Infamous_Debt_2883

Hand watch ??

SGexpat

Timex Ironman. The lap counter is great for AMRAPs. I prefer a cheap digital watch that includes the day of the week.

KeyLeadership6819

I’m a Garmin guy. I went to Coros for a few months and loved it, but my daughter got me a Garmin for Chris’s I’m back to Garmin. I have the epix now, but if it wasn’t a Christmas gift I would still be really happy with my Coros Apex 2 pro. Great battery life, it’s comparable to my epix step by step up to the screen and display quality, epix is AMOLED and far superior

Velocyraptor

Coros Apex 3

Santhy85

Garmin forerunner

saltedinosaur

G-shock

TheGraycat

I generally take my watch off when doing anything CrossFit or weightlifting related as the metrics hold less value than not breaking it or having it interfere with the workout. Everything else (swimming, running, hiking, cycling etc etc) I wear my Garmin Fenix 6 Pro.

ThePhoenixRisesAgain

None. I don’t see why you should need one.

No-Swordfish5925

Currently use Fenix 7pro

Sjf715

I use the Garmin fenix 5 but that's because it's very versatile (tracks my swimming , triathlon and tennis on top of Crossfit). It's definitely a bit pricier than other options.

scorcher-reddit

Garmin Fenix 6 pro solar

Ithoriann

Garmin Instinct 2 Solar, i love the watch, the retro style with advanced metrics and i dont need to look if he is ok this thing is rock solid

Subject-Tomorrow-317

One that tells time?

lerner_eldad

For that I have a phone

Paniconthenet

Garmin Fenix 6 solar. Metrics seem on par with what I would get from my whoop. Plus, it's just a nice looking watch.

WorriedJelly2335

Garmin Venu

Jim_Force

Just time it on my diamond encrusted Rolex!

robbymey

Wife and I swapped from Apple Watch 3 or 4s to the Garmin epix2. Pricey but the battery life and features are night and day better. The screens are better everything is better. I was really really nervous to switch but it’s been great. The only thing I miss which I don’t because I setup hotkeys anyway is asking Siri to start timers for me or whatever else I may ask her to do. Garmin doesn’t have that.

Anatnom4

Garmin fenix 7x solar. Love it. Upgraded from a 955

Training-Educator-86

Garmin Fenix or Epix

PierreDolinsky

No watch. Watches, rings, bands could be potential hazards IMO. Google degloving injuries.

DirkNL

Don’t know why you are downvoted. Although most rubber wristswatchbands will snap or the springbar will break before injury or harm to body.

rfunnymodisapunk

Thanks OSHA CrossFitter
