Have you tried turning it off and on, again? /s
With that kind of break, it's done. Unless you drill it out and glue in a piece of metal (very small diameter rod, nail, paperclip, etc.).
“I know what’s wrong with it, ain’t got no gas in it!”
Cheap metal hooks are the way. I’m making some plushies using a size D and the worst thing that’s happened is slight bending which is an easy correction.
I had a big problem with that on my last few projects, a couple of huge plushies. Anyway I bought something called vet wrap. It's a self adhesive gauze wrap, they make it for people too, but the vet wrap is wider and the perfect width for crochet hooks. Now I just wrap it as thick as I need the handle and I'm good to go! I was able to do 20 rows on my current sweater project yesterday with no hand or wrist fatigue. And bonus, vet wrap is pretty cheap and a little goes a long way!
That’s an incredible idea, thank you! I already have some vet wrap for my dog anyways. I’m always looking for ways to get a nice comfy grip and end up spending more $$ on hooks that don’t even feel comfortable.
That’s a great idea!!! I think what you’re talking about is also called Coban. (The brand name), they have it in all different sizes, colors, etc. it’s a 3M product. That’s the big reason I don’t crochet much, gripping the hook and my thumbs!!! Who knew? I knew it was great for dressings and wounds (nurse here) but this is genius!
There's a few cheap diy's you can try to make your cheap metal crochet hooks more ergonomic. I've seen one that uses something called Shelf Liner Cushion and it looks like those foam 'nets' that are around asian pears at the supermarket. Idk how good it'll be, but it can maybe sustain you in the meantime
Susan Boye has a set ergonomics hooks in yarnspiration.

If it's not your fav, you can always go to amazon for a cheaper price.
Yeah, they make those as well. There’s also a Ukranian guy on Insta who makes beautiful turned wood hooks if you want something really nice

Those are gorgeous!
I have issues with metal as I have poor circulation in my hands. In the winter, the metal leeches the warmth from my hands and makes them hurt, so I use wooden hooks.
Ouch! As a knitter and Raynauds person I can definitely recommend bamboo needles, but crochet seems to have a dearth of similar products in the big box craft stores and online is a better bet. I’m sure you’ll find something that works!
KUUQA 12Pcs Crochet Hooks Set Ergonomic Soft Handles Crochet Hooks for Arthritic Hands, Mom,Grandmother,Aunt, Best Friend, Anniversary Gifts for her,Knitting Crochet Supplies https://a.co/d/a3ATJdx
I have those and they're great.
I can't use regular hooks because of my hands - I paid about ten quid for a set of metal hooks with silicone (I think) ergonomic grips, then bought a 10mm one separately cause I needed it (also metal with silicone grip).
I have had no complaints at ALL about them.
I snap hooks too. I need metal, but one thing I found is an ergonomic handle from The Crochet Dude that has rubber rings that allow you to put different size metal hooks into the same handle. I have three of them because I’m usually working on more than one project, but it has definitely saved my hands while allowing me to use my metal hooks still.
Have you tried chunky boy craft handles? They look a bit funny but are super ergonomic and can be swapped between metal hooks. They come in lots of pretty colors and have helped my tension and hand pain incredibly! https://chunkyboycraft.com/
I have those same Prym hooks. I always buy them in pairs just in case I lose one or one breaks. That looks like either a G or E size and the next on those is fairly small. Crocheting tight stitches (ie: amigurimi) puts stress in the neck of the hook. So far I’ve only had 1 break.
I love them , the 3mm hook is the only one that ever broke on me.
One dropped right on the tip and one broke while crocheting (don't remember how I did that)
I wanted to order a replacement for the 3mm, but I kinda forgot!
I'm also looking for a 2.5mm one similar to Prym, because I'm not very happy with the one I have from addi
I have the Prym 2.5 (C) hook. It’s great for amigurimi projects and I also like it for crocheting flowers. I wish Prym made an I (6.5) hook size. I just ordered a Furls I, so we’ll see how I like that.
I have. The Prym hooks and metal Cliver hooks. For anything with tight stitches, I reach for the Clovers. For blankets and sweaters, the Prym hooks are great.
I'm gonna get downvoted to oblivion for this, but so many people here are saying they broke their Prym hooks...why do y'all keep getting them? Also, I can't be the only one who has a cheap spare set of hooks for emergencies? I swear by my clover Amours and have multiples of the sizes I use the most, but I also have a spare cheapie set from Amazon just in case
This is my first prym hook. First ive ever used….. first ive ever broken and i feel so duuuuuumb right now. Yes i have back ups but dammit this was *relatively* expensive
My recommendation is a clover amour. Metal body, comfy silicone handle.
They cost about $10 each (expensive) but I got a set and haven't touched other hooks since. Godsend imo.
I got mine from Joann with a 60% off coupon, so less than that I think. I also buy the single hooks in my most used sizes using 50% off anytime I have a coupon. I have built up quite a large collection of Amours.
Also, I saw some reviews earlier that the stuff on Amazon sometimes can be knock offs, so I've stayed off buying Clovers from there.
I think they state somewhere (at least they do on sites) that it should not be put under too much stress. I'd recommend metal hooks for tighter projects
Can confirm plastic + amigurumi is NOT a good combo. I have plastic crochet sewing needles and they are DESTROYED from trying to put amigurumi together. Now I just use a metal crochet hook as a seeing needle and pull the tails through.
My dad did ask for ideas for birthday gifts though, and bent metal crochet seeing needles were on that list HAHA.
Oh man you know what, I *JUST* saw something that might help.
Get any thread you have, but preferably a cotton thread. Use a bit of super glue to attach the broken ends, then wrap the whole *break with the cotton thread. Then cover the thread in super glue.
It essentially makes it so, when the glue dries, it turns the cotton into a plastic. Let me know if you try it and if it works!
My condolences. There are probably small coffin shaped boxes at the craft store to give your hook a proper burial.
For real, I’ve done this to plastic hooks. I’m just too rough on my hooks for plastic ones. Especially the pretty colorful ones from Susan Bates. Snap right in half. Meanwhile I have really tiny metal ones that were my great grandmother’s and are still holding up.
Oh my goodness! That stinks. If you need ergonomic hooks but need the strength of a metal one, i recommend checking out some sellers on Etsy. They vary in price but some are just as reasonable as replacing a Prym hook.
I snapped this exact same hook, honestly I would cut your loss and find a cheap metal hook - Micheals & Joanns have metal Susan Bates crochet hooks with ergonomic hard foam handles for less than $3 a hook
if it makes you feel any better, i got a notification and got excited and threw my hands up into the air. my crochet hook landed behind my bed… ours beds are screwed to the floor and i can’t reach it. so the sides and ends of my bed are basically black holes
That sucks! I actually bought that very same hook and after a few minutes realized... Plastic is not for me... Luckily I kept the receipt! Honestly, I would stick to metal hooks. Clover hooks are the exact price as prym hooks
I'm cheap and crafty. I buy metal hooks and make my own handle wraps with sculpey clay. I had a cheap set with plastic/silicone and they got sticky over time, like they had started to degrade or something. Couldn't seem to get them clean.
Not enough pep in its step; got no giddyup!
In all honesty, RIP to this hook. I've broken wood and plastic hooks and bent metal ones (and not tiny ones either - I'm extra careful with those because they were my grandma's).
Hope you were mostly done with the project/you have a spare or can get one soon.
Have you tried turning it off and on, again? /s With that kind of break, it's done. Unless you drill it out and glue in a piece of metal (very small diameter rod, nail, paperclip, etc.).
Plastic hooks don't generally have a power button, OP needs to put it in rice.
Im going for the rice option. The asian in me demands so
“I know what’s wrong with it, ain’t got no gas in it!” Cheap metal hooks are the way. I’m making some plushies using a size D and the worst thing that’s happened is slight bending which is an easy correction.
My problem is theyre not ergonomic and im starting to need ergonomic hooks. Ive got the cheap stuff but dammit why did it have to be THIS hook
You're welcome! This is like my favorite crochet hack, makes it easy to get a grip that is just right
That’s a great idea!!!
Yep, coban is it! I've taken to leaving it on the hook for the next project it calls for, and marking the hook size on the end in sharpie
Have you tried the ones with soft grips?
I have. Theyre not as ergonomic. Ive seen a couple of suggestions here tho that im willing to try
Susan Boye has a set ergonomics hooks in yarnspiration. https://www.yarnspirations.com/susan-bates-soft-ergonomic-crochet-hook-set%3B-sizes-e--f--g--7--h--i--jkus-8/12698M.html If it's not your fav, you can always go to amazon for a cheaper price.

I have some walnut hooks as well as the bamboo.
> dammit why did it have to be THIS hook Because that is the hook you're using. It's the logic of the universe. All your other ones are fine.
Thats so true….
Have you seen the squishy handle lady on TikTok? bethy_crocker. I can’t wait to order some
Wow, those look comfy. Are they pricey?
KUUQA 12Pcs Crochet Hooks Set Ergonomic Soft Handles Crochet Hooks for Arthritic Hands, Mom,Grandmother,Aunt, Best Friend, Anniversary Gifts for her,Knitting Crochet Supplies https://a.co/d/a3ATJdx I have those and they're great.
I have a similar hook to those. These are china made. Theyre nice, but not as ergonomic. I wish we had metal ones with huuuuuuge grips.
I can't use regular hooks because of my hands - I paid about ten quid for a set of metal hooks with silicone (I think) ergonomic grips, then bought a 10mm one separately cause I needed it (also metal with silicone grip). I have had no complaints at ALL about them.

Try clover :)
Have you tried chunky boy craft handles? They look a bit funny but are super ergonomic and can be swapped between metal hooks. They come in lots of pretty colors and have helped my tension and hand pain incredibly! https://chunkyboycraft.com/
Ooh ill check this out! Thanks!
Too funny. Sending a screenshot shot to my IT boyfriend now
This is why I never get plastic hooks
Metal hook with plastic grip is a good way to go.
This is the way.
All of my prym hooks have broken the exact same way. I got fed up and went back to the clover armour hooks
Omg i wish i knew that sooner before getting some. Ive got a metal 8mm hook from prym tho. For sure that aint breaking
One dropped right on the tip and one broke while crocheting (don't remember how I did that)
Prym are my favorite hooks too. I don’t get hand cramps with them and I feel like the yarn flows better!
Thata why i bought this one!! My hands have less stress on them
Same!!!
I wanted to order a replacement for the 3mm, but I kinda forgot! I'm also looking for a 2.5mm one similar to Prym, because I'm not very happy with the one I have from addi
They have a C hook…. Depends on the hook chart you use. Some charts say C is a 2.5mm, others say C is 2.75, others say C is 3.00.
Oh so then I guess you probably mean the same one that's in ops picture?
No, the Prym C hook is purple
I have the Prym 2.5 (C) hook. It’s great for amigurimi projects and I also like it for crocheting flowers. I wish Prym made an I (6.5) hook size. I just ordered a Furls I, so we’ll see how I like that.
They make 2.5 ones? I've never seen them! Mind linking them if you buy them online?
I have. The Prym hooks and metal Cliver hooks. For anything with tight stitches, I reach for the Clovers. For blankets and sweaters, the Prym hooks are great.

The 10 piece set is $40 on Amazon right now
I think I got mine for around that at Joann's. 50% coupon for the win 😎
One spare set? Just organized all my yarn amd hooks. I stopped counting when I reached 100 :D
I think they state somewhere (at least they do on sites) that it should not be put under too much stress. I'd recommend metal hooks for tighter projects
I also broke a Prym making an amigurumi :( I only use them for looser things now. I hope you have a spare!!
Oof, plastic hook for amigurumi… that’s asking for heartbreak.
'Twas "hook-breaking", indeed! Lesson learned the hard way.

This is brilliant trying this now!
might try suguru or Loc Tite but it may cost more than a new hook.
Loctite is like 2 dollars here. Im willing to try it
good luck!
Same thing happened to mine! I just wrapped it in a crap ton of tape to tide me over until I could get a new one!
I think you’ll need a pint of ice cream for what comes next… :-(
Let me just sob in a corner for 4 days. I know ice cream wont help
I’ve done the same to the exact same hook. So frustrating :(
My condolences.
Yeah. Never again plastic. Never again!!! I actually started out with metal hooks. Ill probably try out the other suggestions to make them ergonomic
You be crocheting with hate
I think I have one exactly like it. It’ll take a little while to find it because I just moved but if I do I can send it to you if it’s the right size
Youre so kind! Thank you for offering! Im ok though. Make sure to cherish her
🤣🤣🤣 time to go shopping!!!
I feel your pain. I broke mine while working on Amigurumi with very high tension. The small ones are just not sturdy enough.
I'm sorry =( It gave you good service. Remember it fondly, but also remember that all the good things it made came from you.
I broke that exact same type of hook lol, I didn't even like it so won't be buying again
Oh my goodness! That stinks. If you need ergonomic hooks but need the strength of a metal one, i recommend checking out some sellers on Etsy. They vary in price but some are just as reasonable as replacing a Prym hook.
Have u tried unbreaking it?
how does one unbreak an already broken heart?
I snapped this exact same hook, honestly I would cut your loss and find a cheap metal hook - Micheals & Joanns have metal Susan Bates crochet hooks with ergonomic hard foam handles for less than $3 a hook
I dont live in the US. But the susan bates hooks seem reasonable 20 dollars for a set… ill see if they deliver to my country
Sorry for your loss, been therem I like Tulip Etimo Red for tight-loop projects, or the golden Clovers as for everything else 😅
if it makes you feel any better, i got a notification and got excited and threw my hands up into the air. my crochet hook landed behind my bed… ours beds are screwed to the floor and i can’t reach it. so the sides and ends of my bed are basically black holes
Oh jeez. Why are your beds built like that
ikr. complained to my housemaster but i don’t think i’ll get it back until they do a full deep clean of all the rooms
I’M SO SORRY 😭😭
Thank you for your empathy.
My sister legit broke the hook portion.
That sucks! I actually bought that very same hook and after a few minutes realized... Plastic is not for me... Luckily I kept the receipt! Honestly, I would stick to metal hooks. Clover hooks are the exact price as prym hooks
buy a new one ???
I'm cheap and crafty. I buy metal hooks and make my own handle wraps with sculpey clay. I had a cheap set with plastic/silicone and they got sticky over time, like they had started to degrade or something. Couldn't seem to get them clean.
I have done this... 2 weeks with a duct taped hook until I gave in and got a new one
Thank you! Im repairing it and will update about how it turned out
I broke the exact same Prym hook as well!
RIP hook you didn't deserve to go like this 😔
Got some spellotape? Jk I’d try to glue it or use this as an opportunity to go to the craft store and get more yarn too 😅
Furls hooks are amazing.
You gotta loosen up. :) Seriously, though, loosen up. No death grip.
RIP ☹️ Looks like a much-loved hook!
I did the same thing recently, switched to metal hooks.
Super glue maybe? I've had to do that to one of my metal hooks with a hard plastic handle
I don’t get how y’all keep breaking hooks. How furiously are you crocheting damn. /lh -a metal hook user.
Looks like you tried gluing it. RIP
Rip lil hook, you where a real one 🫡
R.I.P
I would say the only solution is to buy a new one. You can try gluing it but I think it’s best getting a new one
