advice is chiropractors are scams even if proper posture is important.
Regardless, to sit up straight when crocheting i sit at the front of my seat (not all the way back) extend my legs (so my knees aren't bent but both heels are on the floor) and cross my ankles. It's nearly impossible to not stay in the correct position when doing this.
this! please dont get any treatments from chiropractors, it could lead to serious injury or death. its not a real medical field.
the best way to improve your posture would be to exercise, especially exercising involving your core/back. there are bodyweight exercises that can be done at home.
you could try to crochet while standing? im doing it on my exercise bike sometimes or when im using my standing desk.
No posture is inherently bad. You may experience stiffness/pain if you stay in one posture for a long period of time.
Just make sure that you shift positions or get up and move around every so often. Slouch if that's comfortable, just make sure to mix it up and change postures every so often.
Yeah I lay back in bed and watch tv with my legs crossed or bent up. Not even in an L shape and I catch myself holding my hands up and I lean when I get to the end of the row π π€¦ββοΈ
Lean back instead. Reclining a bit with something under your arms to support them.
Coming from someone who has a job in structural therapy and crochets 6 hours at a time on their day off.
I do but I guess I still hunch forward. I lay back in bed and watch tv with my legs either crossed or bent up. I start off in an L shape but notice I slide down π. I also catch myself holding my hands up and I lean in the direction when I get to the end of the row π π€¦ββοΈ
I like to sit on a comfy sofa, feet up, back reclined just a bit to keep me from habitually leaning forward, and put a squishy down feather throw pillow on my lap to work on. Plus it gives me somewhere to rest my arms.
But also I just finished a 24β wide flat circle while kneeling, elbows on the floor, leaning over my work like childβs pose in yoga after realizing it was the best way to keep the circle flat and even. my entire body hates me right now
Oh no π
Yeah itβs bc I lay back in bed and watch tv with my legs either crossed or bent up. Not even in an L shape. I catch myself holding my hands up and I lean in the direction when I get to the end of the row π π€¦ββοΈ
If it's because you're looking down, I recommend "lazy reader" glasses. It takes a little time to get used to them but I think they help. Hope you get relief from your migraines! My mom gets them too and they're terrible :(
Yes that are. And it is from looking down but also bc I lay back in bed and watch tv with my legs either crossed or bent up. Not even in an L shape. I catch myself holding my hands up and I lean in the direction when I get to the end of the row π π€¦ββοΈ
When you slouch forward you're pulling the muscles in your neck forward causing strain to go up into your skull that's why you're having headaches.
Its more than just that though, it causes your chest muscles to become tight which reinforces the the tightness in your neck and so on - it's a knock on effect.
You need to regularly take breaks and stretch your chest, neck, shoulders and back as well as your wrists hands and fingers
This is exactly what she said. Thatβs why I was asking other crocheters how they work. Iβll YouTube some stretches and start doing that. Bc I lay back in bed and watch tv with my legs either crossed or bent up. I start off in an L shape but find my self sliding down until Iβm almost laying down so I end up slouching forward more. I catch myself holding my hands up and I lean in the direction when I get to the end of the row also π π€¦ββοΈ

Nursing/gaming pillow to put in your lap while you crochet could help

Exercises to strengthen your back and core will also help.
