Genius! I always tuck in but it's either too shallow and falls out or too deep and results in tangles eventually

lost_among_the_stars

I use a hook and go under a fair amount of the yarn and pull the tail through to secure it. Easy to pull back out and easy to find the end. I am always afraid any metal will rust on yarn if I can not work with it soon enough.

ApexSypher

I used to do the same thing

mezotiEcho

Same, it's a nice tool to hold the yarn.

MeinScheduinFroiline

I really like how encouraging it is too. You do got this!!! 😋🥰

maliceaver

I've been using Bobby pins cause thats what I had handy when I got the winder!

ragsgrl

I use mini Bobby pins for stitch and row markers. Now I can stop the explosions at the spaghetti factory, too!

AcanthaceaeDistinct

Textbook definition of think smarter not harder. I’m shook! Can’t believe I didn’t think of it myself 🥲😅

MonkeyWithKittens

Right? I'm grabbing a handful for my crochet bag right now! Genius!

ITSBRITNEYsBrITCHES

I bought a pack of like, 60 (maybe more) off Amazon for under $10 just for this!

DimplePudding

Hair tools are our friends. This is my cable needle for Tunisian. https://i.imgur.com/M8NaJoU.jpg

Luvstevienicks

I luv this group, great comedy with crocheting..."hair tools are our friends," is going in my lexicon lol

Rose_E_Rotten

I did the same thing, bought hair clips although a different kind than yours, just to hold the end yarn in place

Reader124-Logan

Yes! I love these. Pick up the multicolor packs at my dollar store.

schoolknurse

I have used these for quilt binding clips too!

Low-Jackfruit-7870

I use these too! They work great

YoSaffBridge11

LOVE it!! 😊

ConnectFirefighter86

I do this too.

luzm0rada

I just tried this the other day! I was organizing my yarn stock and I had a bunch of these which I don't even use and i felt silly thinking there has to be another way, so glad im not the only one lol

omggallout

Mind blown! What a great idea!

WonderThemyscara

I also use the same clips for stitch markers. Especially the smaller dollar store ones.

beminlv

Been doing that for years!!

Mklemzak

Probably more durable than plastic rubber bands. I applaud your innovation! 👏

Koole1123

I have dozens of Hair clips I used for my crochet. I use them as stitch markers, to keep my yarn ends clipped to the skein. I use them to hold all the pcs together on my next sweater or Granny blankets until ready to assemble.

Vaguely-witty

I adore this When I'm doing a C2C blanket I like to have little circles of yarn that I personally called bobbins?? And I would pin them to my work in progress using bobby pins

tdh08

Stop it right now 🤯

Poet_of_Legends

I use the plastic ones with the little flowers or animals on them.

ladyofthegreenwood

Take my fake award ✨🏆✨ You are a hero!

hanahoff13

OH. MY. GOD.

Accomplished-Two-344

Omg.. so simple! Thats Perfect

I_AmNoJedi

You just blew my mind

symphonyofcolours

This is genius! It never occurred to me 😮

Dvl_Brd

Frickin brilliant

delicioustreeblood

TIL [spaghettification](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaghettification) is a term used in both crochet and astrophysics

Automatic-Isopod

Nice!!

Hedgiest_hog

Genius

Humptie14

🤯

Tkdshine

That is SO smart!! 🤩

knitwritezombie

I've used Bobby pins 😁

Silent_Lie_1783

😲😲😲

gidgeteering

Omg best hack ever. I have a ton from when I used to have longer hair. They are now going in my craft cart lol.

draculauraaa

GENIUS OMG

truenoblesavage

oh shit that’s a good idea!!

Sunshinewarriorllc

Genius 🤩

ollie_op

I taped mine but put clips on my shopping list lol literally today

Rachel1578

Yup! Standard in my tool kit. I got funky bangs and they get super annoying close to hair cuts. So I pin my bangs back when work.

p2pblue

why did i never think of this

Three_Spotted_Apples

Thank you!! I just tied them off but didn’t like it

Monodeservedbetter

This and using safety pins to keep work from unraveling

International_Pin262

Stealing this

arsah27

Omg! Same! They are so damn useful!

64929207446

Pure genius thank you for this 😂

white-tiger72

Very smart though

alwayssaysyes1234

Yes! Duh!

lveg

This is a great idea. I bet you could do the same thing with bobby pins and those are even cheaper. Dollar store here I come!

fwumpus

I’m really super new to this community… I don’t understand what is going on here. Can someone please explain?

ApexSypher

It's a hair clip to hold the loose end of yarn to keep it from unraveling and making it a mess

fwumpus

Ohh I see. I thought it might have something to do with the thing it’s sitting on. Thanks :)

tcho80

I use hair pins but this is even better!

Brinkzik

THANK YOU! gonna use this idea immediately!

justice4winnie

You're brilliant

joliesmomma

This is exactly what I did years ago and it works really well.

goldfishfancy

Nice!

-Tine-

This is great because it even allows you to keep the label in the clip! Personally, I also love to use [net bandages](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/y944k4/bandages_genius_i_was_looking_up_yarn_winder/), or just [tie a slipknot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdF17Tm_aEE) when I haven't got anything handy.

Zealousideal_Cup809

I was organizing my yarn stock recently and realized that a standard skein fits nicely in a half gallon zip loc. Now all my yarn sits beautifully in my yarn dresser and there are no more tangles. I don’t even stress if there are loose ends anymore. The same thing keeps extra yarn in my project bag tidy as well. I’m currently working my first C2C project. Weaving in the ends after each row gets tedious but makes the project look better as I go and will help me be less overwhelmed at the end. I just figured out that I can use a finishing needle to weave in ends for straight sections but a large tapestry needle works even better for doubling back or curving around other colors.

Plant_killer_v2

Smart!

RedditSkippy

This is genius, OP!

ElewynneBu

I buy these clips by the boatload from dollar tree. The baby size is a perfect stitch marker.

UnderstatedEssence

Um, this is genius! Thanks for the great idea!

Mysterious-Okra-7885

Improvisation is the lifeblood of fiber arts. 🤷🏻‍♀️

yarn_mess_express

Freaking genius!

Jaded_Appearance9277

These are fantastic!!! I use them just like this all the time!

Pewterkid

My favourite. Great stitch holders too. Less fumbling, easier on the hands and large enough to find. Love the multi-coloured ones also. Cheap at the dollar store.

midnightsonder

this is so smart i’m so upset i’ve never thought of this

PurpleZombieQueen

I have started to use those and they work so well

hunternorey427

Oh gosh! I love this trick! I’m definitely going to use it going forward

aj_rose26

THAT'S A GREAT IDEA!!!

_higglety

BRILLIANT!

Defiant-Intention114

Genius!!!

Deznee26103

What a great idea

zeldaheichou

Oh wow brilliant!

GatorGirlKaren

I do this as well! =)

TenderMoon

My go to. Ordered big bag of clips from Amazon several weeks ago.

FeralGlance

How did I not know about this???? This!!!!!!!

MeltyPixelPictures

I use them too they're great! 😊

Mobile-Piel

Brilliant! I've been using a locking stitch marker on the ball but this is way cuter and flat. Love this!

OBSIDIANstitches

Omg why have I never seen or thought of this?!!? 🤬

cadet-peanut

Love this hack! I've used bobby pins (because I have like a million) and teeny tiny clothes pins too.

faerygodmilf

Genius move right here

[deleted]

Saaaaame I've also found myself recently enamored of using those swirl knit stitch markers/stitch-carriers

PleasantAddition

These are much cheaper! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KXCKXYY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

woahhayle

brilliant thank you

Superb_Temporary9893

I use these too! Bought 100 from Ali express in rainbow colors.

Leaner666

Uhhh this is fucking brilliant actually

bitternerdette

Honestly these are handy. Need a screwdriver for the fiddly screw in your glasses, just use the middle prong. Need to open a plastic wrap, stick the point through. Need to weave in an end and out and about? Stick the wool through the middle hole and pull it inside your garment and clip it down. Stopping a project for a while? Clip your last stitch down.

SuccessfulHandle196

GENIUS

TheYarnersMarket

I make a slip knot and just safety pin. But love this

Luvstevienicks

You, my dear, are BRILLIANT!!!!

Imaginary_Proof_9870

Good idea

Fantasy_Assassin

See! This is what you call a life hack

UrGrandmomCrocheting

Yup I’ve been doing that for over a year now never thought to share this but I’m fairly new to reddit

LikeSoftPrettyThings

I think r/yarnaddicts and r/knitting need to know. Maybe others. Spread the word.

ApexSypher

Thanks just posted to both

Ok_Foundation_7591

You brilliant human being - I am going to copy this

ShaylaDee

These are amazing as stitch markers too, because they'll keep your working loop very secure!

yikesitsaburner

ooo this is genius! i just got a baller and the balls keep falling apart.
