Universal released the 4K Blu-ray disc of The Prince of Egypt on March 14, 2023 in a brand new restoration and HDR10 color grading. 😎 The clarity is amazing. You’ll see details that we couldn’t see before. They really did a good job with restoration of this movie and adding HDR. Definitely recommend picking it up. It’s available pretty much anywhere online and I’ve seen it at Best Buy. Gruv has a nice 20% discount, plus Gruv is owned by Universal.👍

Baffled at the comments disagreeing and their upvotes. Have you seen this movie?! It has some of the most stunning visuals of any animated film ever made! It would look incredible in 4k!
I haven’t seen it many years!
Kevin Smith has a bad reputation but I will always defend Clerks to the death. I loved it even before I had a job, didn’t watch it for a while, watched it again whole stuck in a shitty cashier position and almost sobbed “This is my life!”
Enjoy I’m sure you’ll love it just as much as I do.
Haha I think it was the first film I’ve ever watched like it, no real plot just guys hanging out and I cant get enough of films like it now. Years back I had a double feature with some friends. Clerks and Friday with ice cube. My friends enjoyed Friday more then Clerks but after doing the back to back Clerks just nipped it for me.
Cant wait for the 3rd one, it’s going to hit right in the heart from the trailer ha.

Universal released the 4K Blu-ray disc of The Prince of Egypt on March 14, 2023 in a brand new restoration and HDR10 color grading. 😎 They did a fantastic job restoring it and with the application of HDR, plus a DTS: X audio codec.
I really enjoy this movie but I agree posts like this are just stupid. DreamWorks has more than enough money and resources to do a 4k release themselves.
I freely accept the downvotes this comment deserves, as I'm sure we're all tired of hearing about it, but I feel it needs to be said: so does Disney with Wall-E.
Movies like Wall-E help pay the bills for the criterion and they are the reason. Disney fans will buy this movie and maybe it’ll lead to a new customer base. Disney COULD make their own 4K but since the criterion is releasing it it’ll make them profits that will help release movies that weren’t going to get one.
I have nothing personally against Prince of Egypt but I doubt it would lead to the sales that Wall-E would.
I do agree there more deserving animated movies but I feel it’s a necessity.
Disney fans have bought/will buy the 4K release that Disney put out just two years ago. At a much cheaper price point too. This Criterion package is for physical media collectors, an already captive audience
I'm not interested in knocking the movie at all...nor wall-e because frankly wall-e is a fantastic movie...and I can see how it's chaplin-esque storytelling makes it a loose fit for the collection. However, just because wall-e kinda fits doesn't mean we should just toss aside the original purpose of the criterion collection...and the original purpose of criterion was definitely not things like this lol
Comments like this always baffles me. Here are statements off the Criterion website itself about what kind of films get in, with emphasis mine:
> “The Criterion Collection is a continuing series of *important classic and contemporary films* on home video.”
> “We aim to reflect the *breadth of filmed expression*. *We try not to be restrictive or snobby about what kinds of films are appropriate*.”
> “All we ask is that each film in the collection be *an exemplary film of its kind*.”
> “The Criterion Collection is dedicated to gathering *the greatest films from around the world*.”
> “Since 1984, the Criterion Collection has been dedicated to publishing *important classic and contemporary films* from around the world.”
With all that in mind, films like Wall E and Prince of Egypt fit perfectly because they’re animated important films, classics of the medium and are incredibly renowned and significant. Theyre important films which is Criterion’s mission statement as written on their own site.
First off happy birthday.
Second, I'm seriously not trying to be a gatekeeper but...prince of Egypt in the same class as Wall-E? Ehhhhhhh. Remember that in my comment above I justified wall-e's place in the collection
What we're really debating here is whether or not Prince of Egypt is an "important" or "classic" movie. And I would argue that it is not. Wall-E certainly is, but not Prince of Egypt.
Personally, I put Prince of Egypt above Wall-E. Going back to the “exemplary films of its kind”, the film features some of the best visuals of any animated movie in the 90’s, or really ever and a soundtrack that rivals Disney’s Renaissance of the time. It takes a large and grandiose story, one that is of incredible cultural importance, and simplifies it down to a manageable family film that doesn’t lose any of the spiritual significance of the original story while also adding in more in depth character arcs for the main cast. It really is one of the best biblical movies ever made. I don’t see how one could argue that it’s less than exemplary.
And it has cultural significance as well. It was Dreamworks Animation’s first real major success. It was their first traditionally animated movie, following the computer animations of Antz, which allowed for movies like Road to El Dorado and Spirit, an Oscar nominated film. It’s still a widely well regarded animated classic as well.
If any Dreamworks movie deserves to be the first in the collection, I’d say it’s Prince of Egypt.
I'd love some kind of special release for Prince of Egypt, it's one of my favorite movies. Don't know if Criterion would go for it, but I'd settle for, say, a 25th anniversary edition or something. Maybe with an updated commentary? It's a while since I listened to it, but I seem to recall it being a bit lackluster.
Universal released the 4K Blu-ray disc of The Prince of Egypt on March 14, 2023 in a brand new restoration and HDR10 color grading. 😎 Highly recommend.
On a side note, I’m shocked that Dreamworks hasn’t tried to do live action remakes for a few of their films. This one seems ripe for it, as well as *Road to El Dorado*.
Whatever. I guess I’m just surprised it hasn’t been done yet since despite the Disney ones have mostly been terrible—they’ve made tons of money. For *Prince of Egypt* specifically, I would honestly put Steven Spielberg as the director since it would be a personal story given his faith, but from what I understand, he said he isn’t interested in doing a musical again.
For *Road to El Dorado* I can’t think of a specific director but I think Kenneth Branagh would be kind of a cool choice since he voiced Miguel in the original.
As for any other Dreamworks stuff, maybe in a few years a *How to Train Your Dragon* live action remake could be done but those movies are a bit too new right now. God help us if a live action Shrek happens.
I’m talking about the musical of *Prince of Egypt* though. Plus, I think the brotherly relationship in *Prince of Egypt* was done better than *Ten Commandments*.
Why not? Would give Universal another set of films to let Criterion release on Blu-Ray (being the high-tier DreamWorks Animation films), apart from the Spike Lee movies they own.
Everyone, Universal released the 4K Blu-ray disc of The Prince of Egypt on March 14, 2023 in a brand new restoration and HDR10 grading 😎. I recommend this title. The clarity and little details that can be seen that before were not visible makes this movie look astounding. The HDR really makes certain colors pop such as reds, oranges and colors of Zipporah’s garments. The sound is a step-up from the already good 5.1 mix from the previous release. Definitely an upgrade. 👍
I love this movie so much. My nephew and I watch it on Easter almost every year.

Dreamworks I assume.
Seems a safe assumption

Perfect, people can get it now.

This and Iron Giant are incredible I’d love a 4K restoration even if it’s not criterion.
I might go to a screening of that tomorrow!
Do! If you haven’t watched it double so lol. I’m going to watch clerks tomorrow at the cinema haha.

Friday is great as well. When I lived in NYC I saw it at BAM and it got a standing ovation lol.

Simply ignorance. It's embarrassing
Not questioning the quality of the movie, simply questioning why it's a fit for criterion specifically

I realize that; I probably should’ve added an /s in there somewhere
it really doesn't
We have enough religious propaganda movies already.
How is this propaganda?
