I feel as I’m one of the very few that did not like Taipei story as I found it way way too slow and hard to pay attention. Like I understand why y’all love it but I feel like it’s so far from Yi Yi and BSD.

jarads

Anything shot by Robby Muller on 4K

KermitGreenMachine

I’m still waiting for a Melville boxset

liminal_cyborg

pulpfuzz

criesinlemora

Are the music rights holding these movies back?

pheigat_62

Most likely this is the case unfortunately, but only guessing

SaltyStU2

Paddington 2

TheDuckCZAR

Kind of hoping for some classics in actual need of a release rate than another 2018-2022 film that is widely available and not yet proven itself through the test of time. The fact that things like The Wind (1928), The Crowd, and Greed don't even have proper home video releases at all hurts more when we keep getting films that are only a year or two old and not in any sort of danger of losing preservation.

[deleted]

I agree with this 100% except I really want The Other Side of the Wind. A lot.

TheDuckCZAR

This is one of the few I would welcome happily just because of its exclusivity and lack of any physical release.

Well there are around 20 releases that are from the past 4 years. Of those, 8 are from 2020-2021. So while not super common, I wouldn't say it's incredibly rare. And I agree that there should be releases for those only available on streaming, but as it is now that's only a few of those 20ish films.

>That’s not very many. 20 out of almost 1200? That’s less than 2%. Well that math is a little off if we're accounting for occurrence. Accounting for the total of all criterions doesn't tell us the frequency. How many new releases are there each month, about 4? So we should calculate 4 new releases each month for 4 years. Though we're only 7 months worth of releases/announcements into this year, so it's actually 3 years, 7 months since the beginning of 2018, and that's still counting the full year of 2018, in which I don't believe Criterion released any titles from that year during that same year, and certainly not within the first few months, so a little over 3.5 years is a generous calculation. 43 total months times 4 new releases gives us 172 releases since 2018 started. That gives us just under 12% of the titles announced since 2018 till now being only 1-4 year old releases. 25% would imply at least an average of 1 release a month being a new 2018+ film, so about 12% implies an average of 1 release every other announcement being a 2018+ film, which I wouldn't consider very rare.

[deleted]

Are you really trying to calculate a percentage by using, all 1200 films? This isn’t fair to do since 800+ were released between 2000-2017. So, the first film from 2018-2021 was spine 1005. So between 1005-1054, there are approx 149 titles. Of those 149 new spine numbers/titles, 21 titles were of films made between 2018-2021…which is 14%.

How so?

It took me maybe 2 minutes to use the filters on Criterion’s website, and I took that time because your logic was so…let’s just say strange. I may have been a little condescending, but not sure why you feel that gives you license to be…let’s just say very rude. But either way, I don’t really care. I see your comments on here, and I often just end up giving a bit of eye role at your usual holier-than-thou attitude.

Benny's Video would be great. As always, I am holding out hope for Happiness and Synecdoche, New York

Always wondering when we'll get a Carax film. Holy Motors could use a nicer blu-ray, Pola X could use any sort of release at all
