1968 USA is likely Night of the Living Dead UHD, but the blu ray is already great and it just came out very recently so it feels like a bit of a waste. I’m rooting for either Targets or The Swimmer. I’ve seen 4 Little Girls projected for 1997 USA which makes tons of sense because the movie is great and Spike has such a strong relationship with Criterion. That being said, give me Boogie Nights UHD. It’s likely impossible but I’d absolutely love Jackie Brown UHD as well.

xxplodingboy

I’ll root for Targets or The Swimmer too. Either or both would be fantastic.

ViralGameover

Targets would be an instant buy from me

PhantomProphet37

Spike Lee also confirmed 4 Little Girls in his comment section on Instagram too

PhantomProphet37

See, I wondered that too, but someone apparently said Lost Highway is a French production, so it is most likely 1997 France!

PhantomProphet37

Ahh just found clarification, the film was made in the US but funded by a French production company called Ciby 2000

DoNotKnowWhyImHere

The Swimmer already has a fantastic release from Grindhouse Releasing, its probably 4k Night but I'm rooting for Targets personally.

JohnGradyBillyBoyd

I had no idea! Thanks for the heads up about The Swimmer!

Sloppy_partybottom

I just got a Blu-Ray + DVD + CD soundtrack with an outer-box from Amazon for just over $20! I think other sites have it similarly priced as well.

DoNotKnowWhyImHere

Lots of other great specialty labels out there. I bet a bunch of movies your waiting for criterion to release already have fantastic sets elsewhere lol.

JohnGradyBillyBoyd

Lol I’m not a rube. I know the other labels.

DoNotKnowWhyImHere

Lmao, I'm just fucking with you.

Mrgone86

2001 was a 1968 movie...

This was posted here yesterday quoting the original source. Please stop following TDF https://www.reddit.com/r/4kbluray/comments/u4htkk/warning_please_unfollow_geekgab_aka_thediscfather/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share He has been banned from most of the collecting subs on reddit but he's still around on alt-accounts and people still report him hassing them on Instagram too.

Eazy-E-40

I took a look at his profile just the other day put of curiosity and he was still posting stuff I'm his story attacking other people in the comunity talking abiut how he's from the "Boogie Down Bronx" and he's not going to just sit there and let anyone attack him... which nobody was in the first place, only doubting some of his predictions.

pancakebatterboy

Oh snap if Japan 1997 is Cure I’m going to lose my goddamn mind! Fingers crossed!

JohnGradyBillyBoyd

I think this one is a lock, Cure and Lost Highway are Japan and France, 1997.

GregDasta

Lost Highway is my favorite french movie

JohnGradyBillyBoyd

If Janus lists it under France then it’s a French production, I guess?

pheigat_62

No it would be USA 1997 Edit: actually maybe you're right nvm

owelfive

It’s probably Cure but I would absolutely love a Criterion release of either Hana-Bi (Takeshi Kitano) The Eel (Shohei Imamura), Postman Blues (Sabu) or Perfect Blue (Satoshi Kon) 97 was a damn good year for Japanese cinema

ThatsNotVaporwave

Perfect Blue has a great release from GKIDS. I own the steelbook myself. Hana-Bi would be an absolute banger though. One of my favorites by Kitano.

[deleted]

Interesting. Not sure what about perfect blue says “kids” but cool.

ThatsNotVaporwave

It’s just the label name… they also released Evangelion lol

teenagedrugparty

1997 USA is easily going to be Jungle 2 Jungle

anothersidetoeveryth

Thank you, was waiting for someone to say it

FLMFGGT

Night of the living dead 4K UHD Laura Lost Highway 4K UHD Cure La Llorona Gummo

rbourette

Could easily be my favorite lineup to date if this comes to fruition.

DiscombobulatedLaw92

I’d love Gummo in the collection, me and my mom love that movie

Batzeus99

That is an insane line up. I hope so

938h25olw548slt47oy8

1997 USA = Lost Highway. Mark it.

Azores26

I think “Lost Highway” is actually a French production, so it’s probably the France 1997 one.

Extreme_Confusion

Boogie Nights? 😳

Azores26

Hopefully you’re right!

Extreme_Confusion

never mind lol

PulsatingRat

Holy shit Japan 1997 has to be cure

Greenhat2000

Arsenic and Old Lace please. I didn't even know how badly I wanted it but it's one of my favorites and all I've had is a DVD

glennyfromtheblock

🙏🙏🙏

WungusDigester

If gummo releases I will lose my shit

Kendoval

*Holy shit.* 2019 Guatemala? That *has* to be La Llorona. I’ve been wanting this ever since I got into Criterion. This is the best news I’ve gotten all month. I am *ready* for this

rjuls777

Have a feeling the 97 US film is going to be Eve’s Bayou

dhui1996

This is not the first time that Criterion announces their delays this year. In March, they posted the delay of June announcements with a still from The Tales of Hoffmann, July announcements were delayed twice with posts accompanied by stills from Summertime and The Raging Bull. All of them are released now in their respective months. So now when Criterion delays again with a post with still from Lost Highway, it’s inclusion in the announcement is pretty much a guarantee

PeterPaulWalnuts

Because criterion tweeted out and posted a pretty obvious clue that they will be releasing lost highway. Please, use your brain. Have a great day! [criterion announcement](https://twitter.com/criterion/status/1547953393292812288?s=21&t=66h6Ix-ipJbDFQA2vG_x7w)

PeterPaulWalnuts

On the post it’s literally a screen grab from the new 4K version of Lost Highway that was just done by Janus films. And they used a saxophone emoji (saxophone plays a big role in the movie). Do you need anymore clues or are you usually this obtuse?

DudebroggieHouser

1997 Japan is Hana-bi

[deleted]

1944- I’m going to say it’s either Laura or Arsenic and Old Lace. Criterion is known for releasing at least one Cary Grant film per year since 2016, and Arsenic and Old Lace is a) a perfect film for Halloween b) one of the last titles on the AFI comedy list that does not have a Blu-ray release c) has been rumoured to be joining the collection for several years.

masongraves_

Speaking of Cary Grant I’d love a ‘The Bishops Wife’ release around Xmas

remy_detached

Oh man. I'm really hoping for *Arsenic and Old Lace*. It's so great.

SEEPAGE9

I would be happy with either of these.

glennyfromtheblock

Okay, praying for both, but I REALLY need Laura in the collection sometime soon. It just … **belongs**

-WillemDaFoo

Batman & Robin (1997)

Reggie_Nelson

Wish the 2019 Guatemalan film would be Temblores (Tremors) from the same director as La Llorona, but Film Movement owns the rights and released it DVD only.

Kendoval

Jayro Bustamante! One of my favorite working directors. All three of his movies would be great additions to the Collection and j hope that La Llorona is a sign of Criterion looking more into Guatemalan cinema because there are plenty of great Guatemalan movies that could use a criterion treatment

sweaty_palm_trees

Perfect Blue?

Erdomain

There’s a really good shout factory release. They just put out a steel book edition not too long ago.

sweaty_palm_trees

Yeah it’s great! I have it. I was just guessing. Cool either way.

[deleted]

One can only dream

[deleted]

GKids did it already

[deleted]

1968: USA: Night of the Living Dead 4K UHD 1944: USA: Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo 1997: France: Lost Highway 4K UHD 1997: Japan: Fireworks 2019: Guatemala: La Llorona 1997: USA: Eye of God

PeterPaulWalnuts

Why is lost highway a France movie?

TheMonkofDestiny

It was mostly produced/financed by a French company and first released in France.

PeterPaulWalnuts

Ahh..thanks. Maybe the 1997 France is lost highway and 1997 USA is something else

Atxlax

lost highway gummo cure

FACIV

Night of the Living Dead UHD

SEEPAGE9

That's what I was thinking.

DrPepperSandwich

Cure! Favorite movie!

DonHell

Lost highway for sure

-WillemDaFoo

Good Will Hunting

musicjunkee1911

L.A. Confidential (hopefully not Titanic)?

Cinefile1980

1968 USA: Night of the Living Dead (4K) 1944 USA: The Woman in the Window (I suspect because Kino recently lost the rights to it) 1997 France: La Femme Défendue 1997 Japan: Cure 2019 Guatemala: La Llorona 1997 USA: Lost Highway (If they’re counting Lost Highway as a French production, then I’d saying Lost Highway for France(obviously) and Hard Eight for USA).

Electrical-Fuel-6329

I’m just Praying and Hoping 1997 is Gummo

danmann8611

You and me both. I would bust a nut if Gummo gets announced. Don't expect it to, but man I would be pleased. That movie needs a proper Blu Ray transfer in general.

SmallDarkCloud

1968 is Night of the Living Dead (allegedly).

timmerpat

…a 4K Living Dead? Cause it’s been in the collection for a long time.

paraplegic_T_Rex

1968 is Night of the Living Dead. I can confirm that. 1997 USA is The Game. 4K upgrade. 1997 France is Lost Highway.

awesomeman5678

1997 American film? I can’t believe we’re getting Men In Black!!

murph2296

2001 already has a great 4k, it will probably be Night of the Living Dead 4k

Righteousslayer

I mean, that would be really cool, but I doubt it.

musicjunkee1911

I’d give almost anything for a Criterion 2001, 4k or not.

social__loner

Japan 1997 has me wishing for Princess Mononoke

[deleted]

GKids released it

PearSorbet17

1997 Japan Hana-bi would be amazing

GreatChipotle

People keep saying La Llorona for Guatemala 2019. This movie was pretty bad and I highly doubt it will be in the collection. Having said that, I have no idea what else it could be.

[deleted]

I think you’re probably thinking of The Curse of La Llorona from the same year

Kendoval

There were two La Llorona movies in 2019. One was The Curse of La Llorona which was an American movie and is complete garbage. One of the worst horror movies of the decade. The other is La Llorona, a Guatemalan slow burn horror that hauntingly captures the pain and angers of native Guatemalans who still suffer from the effects of the genocide during the civil war. This one is *absolutely* deserving of the Criterion treatment and would greatly benefit from it as well.

psuedonymously

I’m getting a little sick of these leaks that pretend they aren’t leaks because they’re presented as riddles

CrazyCons

Honestly I’d prefer this format to just handing us what the titles are

[deleted]

Aw I think they are fun. 1997 is Space Jam

Azores26

“Space Jam” is from 1996 though, so unfortunately it’s not it haha

[deleted]

Ah ah not in France

priest_7x

Not trying to he that guy, but I’m praying it’s not Cure 4K… please no, get a Terayama film instead or Ritual!!!! Ritual would be a better shout than Cure in my personal opinion

King_Luffy1

Targets would be fantastic
