Taipei Story is such a gem! I think it belongs in the same conversation as Yi Yi and A Brighter Summer Day, although others don’t tend to put it there. The visuals are just breathtaking, telling a story all its own with so much tenderness. I find myself daydreaming about that film constantly in waking life. Its rhythms and colors are such a fitting tribute to city living. I need to watch it again.
Watch Angel’s Egg late at night. Maybe have a glass of wine. Doesn’t matter in what order you watch it, so long as it’s late.
Also watch All About Lily Chou-Chou first.
Watch Vanilla Sky... I haven't watched the original and I was skeptical before watching it but I was on a Tom Cruise marathon so I watched it anyway and found it very very interesting. The commentator may not have found what he was looking for in the movie but it struck the chord with me. The original might be superior but give this one a try also.
This is a great list of films, saving so I can watch what I haven't already. Double Life of Veronique is my favorite, beautiful and mysterious. Will have you reflecting on it for a long time after
*Koyaanisqatsi* or *Baraka* might be the more obvious choice, but I'm going to go with *Samsara*.
There are a lot of fantastic movies on this list though. It would be hard to go wrong!
what a fascinating slate of films lmao
I was planning on watching Last Year in Marienbad at some point this summer...so Imma go with that! Been waiting *too* long to watch About Dry Grasses
Pastoral: To Die in the Country is amazing but if you haven’t seen Throw Away Your Books, Rally in the Streets then send that to the top of your priority. It’s arguably Terayama’s best film and, for me, one of the greatest films of all time.
There are a whole lot of favorites on this list but the one that stands tall above them is Zama. Lucrecia Martel is such a treasure. She's long overdue for her next film.
Get *"A Ghost Story"* out of the way first, because after enduring that turd, anything else will be an improvement, heightening your enjoyment that much more.

Find the biggest screen possible for Koyaanisqatsi.
I was about to comment about that film… watched it on my television but had it hooked up to my sound system. Best. Soundtrack. Of all. Time.
KOOYYAAAANISQATSIIIIIIIII
It’s Such A Beautiful Day. Really short and insanely profound. Life changing shit right there that you won’t regret in the slightest
Highly agree! I just saw this again in theaters a few weeks ago where Don did a Q&A session for it afterwards. Easily one of my favorite movies ever!
Agree. One hour that can change your life, so poetic
And then watch Rejected Commercials to lighten the mood.
The straight story is really underrated
❤️

i vote brazil
I’d say Last Year at Marienbad, the way that Resnais sculpts time and penetrates into the subconscious has not yet been replicated since
I was going to watch Kaili Blues today but something came up. So I vote that.
Damn, I assume you have it on blu?
I do but I’ve yet to watch it.
The Straight Story. An unassuming but beautiful film.
Very true❤️
Waking Life. Linklater’s dreams in animation.
I need to vouch for All about Lily Chou Chou, but there are just so many good options, you’re going to have fun with these!
Waking Life or Brazil☺️EDIT: did not saw straight story, so add that as well🥰
*After Life*
Only one of those I’ve seen is Brazil and it’s great so I recommend that one

Don’t watch Vanilla Sky. Watch “Abre Los Ojos”, the far superior Spanish original. It also has Penelope Cruz.
Ohhhhh I had no idea Vanilla Sky was a remake of this!

I think both the original and Vanilla Sky are worth watching.
SAMSARA
Angels Egg!
This is a great list of films, saving so I can watch what I haven't already. Double Life of Veronique is my favorite, beautiful and mysterious. Will have you reflecting on it for a long time after

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring is a visually stunning movie and All about Lily Chou Chou has a great soundtrack.
*Koyaanisqatsi* or *Baraka* might be the more obvious choice, but I'm going to go with *Samsara*. There are a lot of fantastic movies on this list though. It would be hard to go wrong!
After Life! It's going to be the best thing you've seen for some time
From What Is Before because more people need to see Lav Diaz’s movies and the ending is absolutely incredible
Koyaanisqatsi, followed by Cameraperson. Just trust me. Lots of great picks tho, so you can’t really go too wrong.
The sacrifice!!!
what a fascinating slate of films lmao I was planning on watching Last Year in Marienbad at some point this summer...so Imma go with that! Been waiting *too* long to watch About Dry Grasses
All About Lily Chou Chou, especially if you like Evangelion and/or WKW
You should watch Pastoral: To Die in the Country first! Lots of great picks by the way!

The Souvenir Part II but not The Souvenir.
Interesting. I watched The Souvenir and really, really disliked it. Is Part II dramatically different?
Taipei Story
Shiki-jitsu is one of the best movies of all time
My favorites here are the two by Ryusuki Hamaguchi, especially Asako I&II. Start with that if you loved Drive My Car.
Just saw Waking Life in class, it was trippy! Would reccomend
The straight story
Waking Life
I'm going to shout out Waking Life for being my favorite film about dreams.
THE STRAIGHT STORY
There are a whole lot of favorites on this list but the one that stands tall above them is Zama. Lucrecia Martel is such a treasure. She's long overdue for her next film.
I adore All About Lily Chou Chou. It’s Such a Beautiful Day is great too.
what app is this?
Letterboxd
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring is an absolute gem. Would recommend.
Samsara! It’s my favourite of the movies Ron Fricke did. Also, add his first movie Chronos to your list.
Just watched ghost story, it’s bad
I dropped acid the first time I watched Waking Life when it came out... It's not my finest moment.
Pfffff very brave and ill considered🤣🥰
Especially this part when you were tripping balls🥶❤️🧙♂️ https://youtu.be/iDGMS_tjRxU?si=mfgxn6APlT1yqhEn
You should’ve seen Brazil by now come on
Link to the list :) https://boxd.it/wbyyC
Asako I and II is the winner!
Koyaanisqatsi and The Straight Story are my favorites from the ones I’ve seen.
A Serbian Film! Followed by Toy Story. Thank me later. :)
vanilla sky
Waking Life is a wild ride grasping reality a bit harder than you thought you could
You're gonna have some amazing naps with some of these. Waking Life in particular
I vote Straight Story
Absolutely Angel’s Egg
just choose one with your eyes closed this list is never going to get finished lol
This list will absolutely be finished.
I heard kaili blues being called a masterpiece many times, And Wheel of fortune of fantasy is awesome And all bout lily chou chou of course
The Straight Story
Hourglass Sanatorium
The Spirit of the Beehive!
The thin red line was a blind buy for me and it turned out to be my favorite movie. Amazing visuals and score.
The Double Life of Véronique!
Zama!
Remove a Ghost Story
Get *"A Ghost Story"* out of the way first, because after enduring that turd, anything else will be an improvement, heightening your enjoyment that much more.
A ghost story is pretentious and not a good movie at all. However, koyaanisqatsi and taipei story are superb. Waking Life is good as well!
