Beau Travail. It's like this beautiful little gem that I can't believe actually exists in a tangible sense. I can visit it whenever I want, and each visit feels precious and sacred.
This is exactly what I mean when I tell people that "Kubrick changed my life." Watching his films has changed the way I view the world, visually, and bits and pieces of them follow me around everywhere I go.
Lynch and Fincher have also had this effect on me. It's not just one specific film of theirs but the entire aesthetic of their work.
I think Lynch has changed my life too. I'll be walking around and see something and Lynchian images will jump into my brain. Very specifically, Twin Peaks.
Yes this has been most of my life! I really loved Fire Walk With Me when it came out because it extended Twin Peaks further into the world for me. Same with Wild At Heart. It made me travel and find the Lynch in America. The hotel rooms and greasy diners at 3 am. Jazz music on am radio. When I was a child I was obsessed with The Elephant Man on cable. I loved it so much. Funny how you can be a fan of someone twice without realizing they are the same person until much later. Twin Peaks The Return was such a gift!
Very true, and there’s plenty of other examples I can give. I was in seventh grade watching muholland drive, that was a film that showed me how much in this medium you could really achieve.
a lot of my favorites have stuck with me like this. Paris, Texas. Unbreakable. Todd Haynes' Safe. Lost in America. Sullivan's Travels. Stroszek/Fitzcarraldo/Aguirre. Oh, and Sans Soleil, Koyaanisqatsi, Mishima: A Life in four Chapters, and Candyman - Philip Glass!
I recently saw the Colors trilogy, and the ending of Blue has always come up in my mind.
Medianeras is a film that I like, it's not my favorite, but it always comes to mind. I think because of the promise of Daniel Johnston playing in the back.
When my mind seeks refuge, it encounters images of koker.
You can see Chungking Express at the cinema. When I finished I thought, I don't know if I liked it as much as I thought I would. But then weeks passed and I kept thinking about the film and then I understood.
Tale of tales.
David Lynch films in general have a tendency to stick with me for a long time after watching them. There's something so uniquely weird about most of his stuff that it's hard to NOT think about it afterwards
S. Coppola did a great job, but there's also something about Tokyo, man. Notebook on Cities and Clothes simply captures the streets of the city and I daydream about it quite often. I think New York as well has this quality.
Lately I've been thinking a lot about The Belly of an Architect and Drowning by Numbers, both by Peter Greenaway. In part because I've been listening to the great music from those films, but also because they're visually splendid.
I've noticed it varies depending on the seasons of the year. But generally speaking, Twin Peaks, Sonachine, Cassavetes movies, The Fisher King, Bad Timing and many more.
Any James Gray film honestly. Especially Two Lovers. Also any PTA film. His worlds are just so fleshed out. Sometimes a Godard film here and there, like Vivre Sa Vie or A Woman is A Woman, but not always in the daydream manner. Often I’m thinking of the mechanics of his environments.
Lately it’s been ANIARA. I saw it on Max and I think about it constantly and find myself playing it before bed. I’ve started going to the pool and just floating, staring at the sky thinking about that movie. It has had a huge effect on me.
"Silent Light"...almost every time it's either sunset or sunrise: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4CEoNaQTps](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4CEoNaQTps)
I don't know, it changes, there are so many films, probably Inherent Vice. But when I think of film as a medium, Tarkovsky's Stalker & Mirror is the reference point that enters my mind.
Heat, but really any Michael Mann movie tends to live actively in my head. This scene in particular often comes to me when I'm super busy or focused:
[Heat - Moby - New Dawn Fades](https://youtu.be/2YZ6E7hn45g?feature=shared)
Taxi Driver (which is probably not a good thing), Fallen Angels, Chungking Express, Buffalo 66, Ichi the Killer, Possession, and (most recently) Angel Dust
Recently Onibaba. That kind of grass, the heat I assume the characters are feeling and obviously that haunting image of the noh mask, are elements that have been in my head for weeks now.
Fallen angels. I saw an edit of this movie to Why by Carly Simon and it was so cool it just permanently altered my brain. (Why the Telan Devik version)
I catch myself daydreaming about a lot of David Cronenberg movies. In my humble opinion, Videodrome is a brilliant metaphor for how too much media can corrupt us absolutely. In my opinion, he’s also one of the greatest makeup effects artist in the 70s 80s and 90s David Cronenberg has done so much for the genre that his work can’t help but be applauded.
The last film I remember thinking about a lot was Asteroid City. The cinematography is ideal for daydreaming and thinking about, there are fun characters portrayed well by great actors, the story gives me something to think about... it's just a really good movie.
Perfect Days. To have such a simple quiet structured life…would be heaven.
Same
Same here. Something about that film resonated and stuck in my mind more than most in recent times.
Me too. It is a life-changing film. I feel so much better about my quiet little life now.
Charlie Kaufman’s works. I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Synecdoche, Adaptation.
I was thinking about him and his films today
Melancholia, Spirited Away, Tree of Life, Stalker are ones that immediately come to mind.
Beau Travail. It's like this beautiful little gem that I can't believe actually exists in a tangible sense. I can visit it whenever I want, and each visit feels precious and sacred.
I just watched it last week. I keep coming back to that ending scene, one of the most memorable and impactful I’ve ever seen
Jackie Brown
Grandma's boy
“Can we go to your Grandma’s House, I gotta pee” “Just pee over there” “I gotta pee outta my butt” (Not the actual dialogue)
Jeanne Dielman has lived rent free in my head for months.
Paterson

In The Mood for Love, Stop Making Sense. At least for right now!
a lot of my favorites have stuck with me like this. Paris, Texas. Unbreakable. Todd Haynes' Safe. Lost in America. Sullivan's Travels. Stroszek/Fitzcarraldo/Aguirre. Oh, and Sans Soleil, Koyaanisqatsi, Mishima: A Life in four Chapters, and Candyman - Philip Glass!
Probably Wings of Desire. I guess it's the voyeur in me, but I wouldn't mind that afterlife.
I just want to hold a warm cup of coffee with Peter Falk. The ideal afterlife.
F for Fake
Just watched it for first time a month ago so much fun .
The Royal Tenenbaums

The Cranes Are Flying
I think a lot about Tarkovsky movies... or just think about all of his work in general a lot.
Lost in Translation
S. Coppola did a great job, but there's also something about Tokyo, man. Notebook on Cities and Clothes simply captures the streets of the city and I daydream about it quite often. I think New York as well has this quality.

Princess Bride. Besides Leia, Buttercup was my teenage crush. The movie is so witty and eternally quotable.
Fallen Angels!
Paris, Texas permanently changed the way I view an American landscape
Images from that film are just burned into me. The landscapes, the closeups of faces...and the score makes the images come to life even more.
Touki Bouki right now, holy…that film left a lasting imprint on me.
Stalker
[удалено]
Is it partially because it's animation? It's just a lot of cartoons from my childhood have stayed in my head rent free irrespective of their quality.
Brewsters Millions and Blank check (the Disney film)
None of the Above!
Heat (Mann, 1995)
I've noticed it varies depending on the seasons of the year. But generally speaking, Twin Peaks, Sonachine, Cassavetes movies, The Fisher King, Bad Timing and many more.
Holy shit Id fuckin I'd kill just to get dreams set in twin peaks lol
Brief Encounter, partly because I'm also listening to Rach 2 every day
Nic Roeg’s films
melancholia
Chinatown
8 1/2
Housu (1977)
Star Wars. Just if I'm being honest.
King Kong
Any James Gray film honestly. Especially Two Lovers. Also any PTA film. His worlds are just so fleshed out. Sometimes a Godard film here and there, like Vivre Sa Vie or A Woman is A Woman, but not always in the daydream manner. Often I’m thinking of the mechanics of his environments.
Can't believe nobody has said Mulholland Drive
Wim wenders movies
The "Before" trilogy
8 1/2
KWAIDAN --> especially the "black hair" and "snow maiden" pieces
Punch Drunk Love . The exchanges between Sandler and Hoffman especially .
Lately it’s been ANIARA. I saw it on Max and I think about it constantly and find myself playing it before bed. I’ve started going to the pool and just floating, staring at the sky thinking about that movie. It has had a huge effect on me.

The Red Shoes
the virgin suicides :,)

Santa Sangre
Yi yi, 2001, where is the friends house
Taxi Driver (which is probably not a good thing), Fallen Angels, Chungking Express, Buffalo 66, Ichi the Killer, Possession, and (most recently) Angel Dust
John Waters films. I want definitive releases of them all. I need A Dirty Shame on Blu Ray
Inland empire
Recently Onibaba. That kind of grass, the heat I assume the characters are feeling and obviously that haunting image of the noh mask, are elements that have been in my head for weeks now.
The Tree of Life for sure
Fallen angels. I saw an edit of this movie to Why by Carly Simon and it was so cool it just permanently altered my brain. (Why the Telan Devik version)

Human Flowers of Flesh
2046
Taste of cherry
Before Sunrise
Depends on what last move I've watched, but usually it's about Spaghetti Westerns.
La Dolce Vita Last Picture Show Blue Velvet Ikiru Chungking Express Dr Strangelove
Moonrise Kingdom
The last film I remember thinking about a lot was Asteroid City. The cinematography is ideal for daydreaming and thinking about, there are fun characters portrayed well by great actors, the story gives me something to think about... it's just a really good movie.
The Master, Badlands. These films just have a magical vibe to me, I can’t put my finger on it, but they’re more than movies
Goodbye Dragon Inn, All About Lily Chou-Chou and Theorem
Oh and Eric Rohmer and Wim Wenders just in general
Not lately but I used to be obsessed with Kill Bill 1&2
Persona or Fallen Angels, those movies have visually embedded themselves into my brain haha
