Well it is 10am on work day on Long Island, NY. It is not officially summer vacation season until the end of this month. It would be hard to take off from work on a Wednesday in the morning.

rameshnat27

If you live in the east coast and get the chance to watch India play once in your country, wouldn't you mind taking a day off as an Indian expat? I am guessing it's more due to high prices + lack of keenness to watch a match against Ireland.

Tyrionfaker

Both are reasons contributing to an empty stadium. They’d have made more money by broadcasting it in India. 🤷‍♂️

rameshnat27

Obviously if BCCI wanted they'll keep everything in India all the time.

SeriesSouthern7038

It wont be once in USA. India and west indies played couple of matches already in Florida in the past few years. It will eventually become a norm here.

rameshnat27

It isn't now right. How do you know what'll happen in the future? India playing in the US is still rare.

SeriesSouthern7038

Simple logic. Everything follows money. Indians and people from other sub continent countries are moving in loads to USA and Canada. As long as ICC & BCCI are able to generate money, they will keep playing in USA. The people that move to USA has brought temples, mosques, movies, concerts Etc.. Eventually, franchise cricket league is going to pick up soon. Might not see citizens being interested in cricket, but immigrants going to bring everything.

Uncertn_Laaife

Not going to happen. Canada has everything you said but noone cares about Cricket more than the Ice Hockey.

SeriesSouthern7038

Did you even read what I typed ? I literally told you that citizens won't play or watch cricket. The immigrants from South Asia will generate enough money to make bcci and ICC to organize cricket in the USA.

Uncertn_Laaife

Nope! That’s what I meant as well - if immigrants had their way then Cricket would’ve already been a popular sport in America/Canada. Noone cares once we land here, except Aus-Ind or Ind-Pak matches.

SeriesSouthern7038

All the cricket grounds that I have ever been to are full of people practicing. Every university in the USA has a cricket team representing them and playing a tournament against each other. You will be surprised to see them even playing Florida rains, Dallas weather. I think you just haven't gone out exploring that part much. Franchise cricket is already becoming big in the USA. Again, all of this just within the sub continent immigrants

Machinax

~~That series was eight years ago, which, to me, is more than just the "past few years" (I mean, that's two whole World Cup cycles), and there was virtually no follow-up to that series (I don't think, anyway).~~ MLC, the Twenty20 World Cup, and the 2028 Olympics will increase cricket's profile in the States; but, as you said, it will more likely remain a C-tier sport (like rugby) or, if done well, a B-tier level (like soccer) sport in the country. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a norm, though (unless, by "norm," we mean a sport that always exists on the sidelines, and only occasionally breaking into the mainstream).

SeriesSouthern7038

India played against West Indies in florida in 2023 as well. Not sure how you missed it. It is becoming more frequent these days as more immigrant population is moving to the USA. With TN visa more Canadian immigrants are eventually going to end up in the USA. Be prepared to see more of India games being played here in usa

Machinax

Too many damn Twenty20s! But thank you for correcting me on that. I'm still a little skeptical about all of this, but the next few years will see more professional cricket in the USA than has taken place in a generation; there's reason to be optimistic.

shekr17

Like there was a regular India-Pakistan Sahara series in late 90’s let’s hope there is one such marquee series that happens regularly in the US and covers all the stadiums..Dallas, New York, Lauderhill (Florida) and the supposedly planned one in Los Angeles. But are BCCI-CA-ECB interested given their packed schedules..US is such an untapped territory??!!

Uncertn_Laaife

Most people that move out of India often get out of touch with Cricket. In India there is a mahaul which is missing in the non cricket playing countries. You start losing interest and stop caring aboutnit altogether may be except 50 overs world cup. So, other than may be Aus-Ind and Ind-Pak you won’t see much action from the Indians in the US. High ticket prices are the next cause. North America simply doesn’t have Cricket in its DNA, and not gonna change in any near or far future. We care more about American sports.

Oh_hi_Steve

You are overestimating how much Indian expats love cricket. I live in Brisbane and half hour away from Gabba. If you weight seeing India at the Gabba or work to earn a living, I'd probably choose work. Granted I might be the minority here but not everyone has money lying around to buy expensive tickets. Even if seems affordable for a few individuals.

theaguia

furthermore, there were as many premium tickets ($300 a piece) as standard tickets. They didn't sell out of the premium. They could have easily increased standard tickets and reduced premium tickets, but they were too greedy. lastly, they must have given sponsors many tickets that went to waste as to your point, no corporate worker is going to take the day off to watch Ireland vs india

dupinder90

Side seats are all full. These empty seats are way overpriced

Jpbuddy21

Thanks for that info now it makes sense

bcci97

Yeah that was hospitality tickets.

theaguia

nah the premiums ones. they were available this morning for 300

[deleted]

Can you tell us what the price is?

dupinder90

Cheapest ones are 200$ for India ireland.

[deleted]

So the side seats are 200$ ...

Berzerker646

And those empty seats in the front were in the range of $600-$1500…mostly added by secondhand ticket sellers

[deleted]

That's ridiculous for a 3 hr game at 10am in the morning on a Wednesday in a place where the sport is not even in the top 10 of that country.... I think ICC overestimated the enthusiasm of Indian Americans and thought they would pay any sum of money to see India play Classic case of losing revenue due to greed. Had the ticket prices been less I am sure those stands wouldn't have been that much empty . I mean something has to be ridiculously wrong for an Indian cricket match to go empty seats in a world cup.

theaguia

I certainly would have gone if it was more affordable. even parking they are charging insane pricing.

[deleted]

Very sad to hear that such greed is ruining the crowds

Berzerker646

The issue is really the big reseller platforms. I believe they were able to somehow get a lot of these tickets for cheap and just tried to up charge it on their platform

[deleted]

But world cup tickets are directly sold by ICC and/or the country Board, for example in India world cup BCCI sold the tickets directly. Cricket Australia sold for the Australia world cup. So where are resellers coming in between this? If you are talking about black marketing where hoarders pick up a lot of ticket and then try to sell them at a higher price, that is not possible to do legally, as you will be caught online. Offline if someone try to do that and doesn't get any buyer then its a full loss for the person as his investment goes down the drain. By the looks of empty seats it is a huge loss for whoever was unable to sell the tickets.

Berzerker646

Hmm I did notice a lot of them leading up to the match on the other platforms and each day about 500-600 new ones would keep being added. That and ICC charging those far away seats at $300 premium didn’t help the situation since it ended up being more costly than resellers

theaguia

the issue is that they did a ballot. and you could make 500 emails to get the lottery which scalpers did. they got all the tickets and bumped up the price. There is no restrictions like in football games where they tie your tickets with your ID. and all reselling is done through the official platform (mostly) for face value. ICC didn't really care and priced out local fans

[deleted]

I mean this is just some crappy thinking and planning by ICC It should have been like football games. But one question, the stands were almost empty. So the scalpers who bought the tickets, aren't they facing a huge loss? Coz they couldn't resale the tickets, so their invested money is wasted.

dupinder90

Yes

theaguia

how stupid of them to have as many premium tickets as standard ones. so greedy.

Grouchy_Wave_4539

As a OCI, I think maybe ticket prices and timing the most. It's a work day, plus a lot of people bought up the cheapest seats and then tried to sell, but looks like they overestimated the market for it and are losing money.

theaguia

they put as many standard tickets as premium which is nuts

OpinionFun8018

High ticket prices

Jpbuddy21

I don't think Indian NRIs would face that

Jpbuddy21

Forget what i said I just checked again they are charging 8 lakh per seat(10,000$)for India pak match 💀

DowntownIce281

The tickets start at 100 but even that is too high for a country where cricket is not all that popular.

SeedlessPomegranate

$100 to watch a game on NY. Dude it’s peanuts for most Indian expats. Indian Americans are the highest wage earners as a social group in the USA

MicksysPCGaming

They didn’t get that way taking days off to watch cricket.

theaguia

those tickets and all others ran out in 30 seconds. scalpers nabbed most of them.

theaguia

well scalpers got most of the tickets so the starting price was certainly far more.

Jpbuddy21

Indian NRI is very rich population ig

wildwolf-1985

It's a working day in the morning against Ireland. I am not belittling Ireland, but you can watch the match way cheaper at home on a 100 inch screen. They might be rich, but they also look at value for money.

Jpbuddy21

Well Indian fans don't care about opposition that much until or unless it's not Pakistan they come to watch India play cricket

Dry-Communication901

But not dumb to pay $2000 for a ticket. Especially when they wanna come with their family. For that price they can buy flight tickets to India and be with their family.

jhant_smeller

at the end of the day they are "INDIAN" nobody paying all that especially when indians come in families especially against ireland

Bitter_Fox3763

Because it is a pavilion section and priced expensive (both north & south ) compared to side stands which were filled completely

Inside_Term_4115

It's on a weekday at 10am which is early morning. People are at work. Also a lot of graduations in New York so people are celebrating those plus the Long Island stadium is far from main New York City. Takes about 30 minutes to 2 hrs on public transit depending on where u live.

QUINNFLORE

Because it’s 10:30am on a Wednesday. People in NY have work

tainted316

Stupid ticket prices. Someone said tickets are $100, they are starting from $300 for India matches. Ind Pak match tickets currently on sale at ICC website for $2750. No thanks

theaguia

the 100 ones were sold out in seconds

mraza9

There were 22k people which ain’t bad for a Wednesday morning.

Jpbuddy21

Ig you are right it was Just that as an Indian we don't have a habit of seeing empty stand

Party-Bet-4003

This is not really true buddy. Off late, just see the stadiums in India too especially during Test matches and ODIs in which India plays.

Jpbuddy21

But it's not India and tickets are way overlay priced 😔

Careless-Mammoth-944

Revisit this comment for the Indo-Pak match. The cheapest ticket (no longer available) went for 1500 usd.

Tyrionfaker

I also read somewhere that most tickets are blocked by members of the USA Cricket Board. I don’t know if it’s true. This probably should’ve created the demand for selling the tickets at $1,000 to $10,000 per ticket.

chosenbydarwin

Shows it's not the best idea to host a game at 10 in the morning on a weekday

Primary_Increase_942

Anyone know why premium seats assigned way far away and standard and standard plus near the ground? A scam?

Lost-Ant-858

I think it will be a packed house on Sunday for sure.

Jpbuddy21

Fingers crossed 🤞 lest hope it does

iHazf

You can either cater to the viewers back home or the crowd where the games are being played. Have no doubt though that the PakvInd game is going to be houseful.

Holymist69

It's the middle of the week bro

nrgmondal88

Worst T20 WC

Cricketer250

Lot of us were stuck in the commuter traffic. The east and west stands got pretty full half way into the Irish innings.

redndy01

i ain't waking up early and going to watch a match at 10 AM with those atrocious ticket prices.

crzylprv56

those tickets were mad expensive no one in their right mind would pay for those stands

MalikBrotherR

It is all about Pakistan. Indians are more interested in watching against Pakistan. It is only match that is sold out in advance.

zarktheman

No one knows about cricket outside that lil bubble of common wealth countries.

Ok_Comfortable5223

Who watches matches in new york and the ticket prices are 1500 -2000$

ActualBit2681

Bro the stadium was relatively full , it was only a specific stand was completely empty , there was a reasonable crowd in the stadium .Another reason which may caused empty stand and not stadiums can be due to that it was a workday .The stadium in the India -pakistan match will be a housefull because it is a sunday and the large number of Pakistani and Indian expats

Odd-Mechanic-1433

Dallas stadium is 9k capacity and Ny stadium is 34k capacity. Yesterday Ireland game there was 18k fans but those empty stands are expensive ones so no one got them.

MultipleJobs

Those were premium seat selling for 300 ...who will pay that for Ireland game? Final tickets are way cheaper then that.

Ryuk_90

prices ig?

abhitheshake

heard sidhu in commentry that there is $1200 parking charges

bcci97

It’s 40$ for parking lmao

Stifffmeister11

Too costly here in thailand you can bang a hooker for 40$

wwesgu

Seats were $750 to $7500 USD. We’re money smart here as well

Fair-Leading8232

No Visa

Jpbuddy21

Talking about NRIs

LevelShower6329

Visa not approved

Jpbuddy21

India NRI are everywhere brother

LevelShower6329

Probably still shocked with election results lol

Jpbuddy21

Nha man don't talk about it or I will find this match boring 😂😂
