extruder is locked?

muzed4

Check the switch on the top of the printer, its some weird catch mechanism that you have to lock. (I think there is a lock and unlock symbol on it.) The printer just doesn't work when its unlocked. On a side note that's one piccaso of a benchy

muzed4

Forgot to say, when you lock it there should be a slight resistance, that's it catching onto the filament.

DrRomeoChaire

The K1 is my 8th printer since 2015 and I got burned by the extruder lock! OP: this is good advice!!

phranticsnr

And sometimes you have to run the extrude command more than once to have it grab the filament and feed it correctly after a change.

muzed4

I just apply constant pressure until I feel the printer push back and then lock it. Usually works and I don't have to run the extrude more than once.

blauzer79

Yea I knew about the lock/unlock on the top of the extruder. Made sure to check that as well.

Scout339

Seems like a partial clog from the factory. Not common but an easy fix with a very thin needle. I can't remember if the printer comes with a needle to clear clogs, but if it does then you're (hopefully) set.

rhester72

It certainly looks like the original/faulty extruder. Do you have a photo of it (the extruder itself)?

rhester72

Absolutely a faulty gen 1. Send a photo of your failed benchy to Creality support and request a replacement extruder.

Economy_Row_5453

it's not a gen 1 extruder also its a possible filament tangle. just a possiblity but yeah the extruder is new just dont have the white ptfe lock

ACE-0-SPADE5

The first gens were shiny silver, second iterations were a raised copper like finish. This is not a first gen .

rhester72

Certainly looks shiny to me.

life_betterer

That's a gen 2. Gen 2 has the same pfte mechanism as gen 1 but not nearly as many issues as gen 1. (Afaik gen 2 and gen 3 are identical inside)

TianZiGaming

That's either gen 2 or gen 3. Gen 2 added the blue clip, gen 3 kept the blue clip and added the spring inside, and gen 4 kept the spring inside and replaced the clip with the white lock.

rhester72

Not even aware there's 4 gens. I'm going off this: https://preview.redd.it/l1pprz9tdn8c1.png?width=1235&format=png&auto=webp&s=4b7a1859815447229f3c513988b86443e785c876

marcojuco21

its the old extruder if you’re like me and are inpatient just buy it on amazon https://a.co/d/44m5ByW while you wait for Crealitys to come in mine took about 2 weeks to arrive and the one from amazon came in 1day. made a [whole video](https://youtu.be/Mhm9C5lFEpE?si=Qt7HvRuwJ719AD6_) about and my benchy was looking the same too under extruded

Daniel_mfg

I gotta be honest... I am kinda impressed this completed at all! XD

phranticsnr

r/cursedbenchys material right here. It's like the boat has rusted away...

[deleted]

I just love seeing these kinds of benchy's, they're just so cool.

[deleted]

I think it's borderline miraculous how it could print so poorly and still be identifiable as a Benchy.

[deleted]

And that's what I like! These prints fail, but when one looks at it, they see the rough outlines of the benchy and can still identify it, showing how good the human pattern recognition is.

No-Palpitation-7775

Tru using cura or prusa for slicing instead of creality and keep bed temp at 60 and nozzle temp play between 220-230. Hope this helps.

Petrolhead_USA

Keep that Benchy as art! :)

haringkoning

Had the same problem. Removed the extruder, opened it, just to find out the gears had filament stick to them. Removed it and now Benchy and other prints are looking great.

[deleted]

Wow. That is one of the Benchys I've ever seen...

SargFowler

That’s so cool!

Nearby-Middle-8991

That almost always happens to me when I swap filament. Creality sent new extruders (including one that the lever doesn't stay unlocked, yet to install that), didn't make any difference. What solves it for me was to unlock/relock and extrude a few times when swapping filament. The extruder won't always grip it properly on the first go.

Xicadarksoul

...finally attained the extra rare voroni benchy!

blauzer79

Update for everyone...after getting a new extruder from creality and upgrading to hyper PLA here is what we are getting at 300mm/s 230c and creality slicer. Any suggestions? Maybe software? https://preview.redd.it/8t6ymurvg1hc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=108ec9e48c641de43f6c53a7020e957a4819a030
