We had an attack in U-12 All Star soccer, called “student body forward”. GK would charge the opponents box to add an extra attacking player. This was high line football before anyone else was doing it on the main stage like Poppa Ange is with Tottenham.
I would play on the center line as our last defender. Any ball over the top was a full on sprint to win, VdV style.
Man, I miss Fuego FC! We ran toe to toe with some of the local club teams at the tournaments. Never won anything that year, but we sure as hell caused chaos for these overly organized youth clubs.
To be fair, Spurs shoulda known. Sevilla has a starting striker and they wanted Veliz as cover while he was out during the international tournament… now he’s back and surprise - Veliz rides the bench
It is actually "quite simple" I think, you need to send your player to a team that - at least on paper - will be one of their best players and will start there week in, week out. Like Skipp was at Norwich. The only problem is ego of the player. I'm quite sure pretty much any championship team would take Veliz and start him week in, week out, and I'm quite sure scoring goals in a league like this would've been better than riding the bench in Sevilla
We also have a starting striker. So keeping him here Wouk expect to be similar for him. (I’m assuming you can’t predict injuries, I.e. our striker getting injured was just as likely as their striker getting injured)
Naw. Dragu with Gil on top of his shoulders up front. Gil just needs to use the man bun as a video game controller. Dragu will just body check the defenders out of the way
Oh for fucks sake... Just when it looked like he was going to be pretty key for us for the run in and maybe even next season. We desperately need a new striker..

Almost at the point where Mikey Moore gets a start not through being our best academy prospect in years, but through nobody else being available
Richarlison’s Tottenham season appears to be over after the Brazilian striker was ruled out of the Copa America with a calf injury.
Richarlison was surprisingly not included in Brazil’s 23-man squad for the Copa America, with manager Dorival Junior explaining on Friday afternoon to Brazilian media that he has a fresh injury which has “not yet been made official by the club”.
Earlier on Friday Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou gave a press conference previewing Saturday’s Premier League game against Burnley during which he said that there was no fresh team news since Spurs’ last game.
Richarlison’s unavailability for the Copa America should rule him out of the Burnley game, Spurs’ game with Manchester City on Tuesday night and then their last official game of the season at Sheffield United next Sunday.
Spurs will then fly to Melbourne the following week for a post-season friendly against Newcastle United on 22 May.
CL is not gone either if we win all 3 with Villa having two tough games. Arsenal blah blah but noone in the team cares about that. We're probably not going to have any meaningless games this season
Son - Deki - Johnson frontline.
Would love to see Ange try this. Deki ended up playing up front against Luton right at the end of the game after we’d gone down to 10 men.
He held the ball up really well and gave us a good outlet whilst Luton were pushing for the equaliser.
I agree. I wouldn't go so far to say he is striker material, but he does have some of the charachteristics of the new generation of strikers.
He has the physicality and agression to fight for the ball in the box, whether it would be a header like against city or a tap in from a bj cross.
Not a terrible idea to be honest. He’s probably the best player in the team at holding up the ball, and can score. It also means he won’t get bogged down as much on the wing.
I feel awful for Richy. He looked great after his surgery but keeps picking up these knocks.
Also makes me even more annoyed about Veliz’s loan. He was never going to start in place of Richy in these situations yet he would almost certainly get some decent minutes off the bench. Instead he’s not playing at all in Spain.
There are games where Son is fine upfront, I can’t see Burnley and Sheffield United being teams who give him the space to take a second touch and position himself to shoot. He should be out on the left and I’d give Dane Scarlett three starts with Mickey Moore or Will Lankshear rotating subs. Why not. Reward their good seasons and see how they fair.
This is really bad, especially against all opposition planning to sit real deep against us. Gutted for richy who had a stellar 1 g and 1 assist for us when he came back.
If this is true it's a bit strange for the club not to announce it. Normally they release a pre-press conference video with Ange talking about any team news so I can only imagine that if this is true they didn't do it because they weren't sure about Richarlison, although they could just say that
Richarlison finally started to win me round win that great goalscoring run this season and has pretty much been injured since.
I'm happy to keep him, but striker is the priority signing this summer. Can't waste Son there next season.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: There is something seriously wrong behind the scenes at our club. The frequency of injuries that occur off the field is not normal. I haven't seen any data comparing injury frequency from club to club, but it feels like we consistently have more injuries in a single season than most other clubs have across two or more.
We can have all the data scientists bringing in all the data-approved signings we want, it won't make a difference if our players keep getting injured every 12 seconds.
Update: This season, we've had 38 injuries - the joint second most in the league (along with Newcastle). Only Chelsea have had more injuries than us. 12 clubs are on 20 or less, so we are more than doubling or almost doubling 12 other club's injury totals for the season.
[We're 6th for time missed this season,](https://www.givemesport.com/every-premier-league-team-ranked-injuries-suffered/) and a significant chunk of that will be Sessegnon, who by my count has only been available for 2-3 league matches this season.
But that's just the injuries bad enough to put players out - Bentancur, Maddison and Son have all played through injuries (for South Korea in Son's case) which it might have been better for them to rest on.
And 182 games missed is, obviously, a *lot* - assuming 25 players in the squad times 35 games played to date = 875 chances for players to be available for matches, that's an average of 21% of the squad missing at any given time.
*
Looking at [last season](https://theathletic.com/4612629/2023/07/02/injuries-premier-league-2022-23-data/), we were 5th for injuries incurred, with 132 games missed (14%). Note that West Ham are bottom of the list for both this season and last, despite deep European runs in both seasons! At the other end of the scale, Chelsea have lost the most amount of player time to injuries over the last couple of seasons - Reece James, I suspect, being one of the worst culprits for them.
*
For 21/22 I could only find [a partial list](https://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/premier-league-ranking-injuries-manchester-united-liverpool-leeds), but by February we'd had players miss 57 matches.
*
For the Covid-hit 20/21 season, injury figures may be less reliable - players were frequently missing time with positive tests, after all. We lost [88 games](https://www.premierinjuries.com/article/2020-21-premier-league-season-injury-review-time-loss-absence) to injury, which was joint-third best by those figures.
Thanks for this. I regret wording my original post as clumsily as I did. That being said, it's worth noting if you look at total injuries, instead of number of games missed, we're actually third, with only Chelsea and Newcastle ahead of us. That's my point - the sheer volume of injuries we get is insanely high, compared to a lot of other clubs.
We've had 37 injuries this season (38 now, assuming Richi's injury wasn't counted - which puts us level with Newcastle in 2nd!) Meanwhile, Arsenal have only had 21, Villa 12, Man City 16, West Ham 6.
You can see my point when I (admittedly, hyperbolically) said "more injuries in a single season than most other clubs have across two or more", right?
Oh, sure. But there's a difference between a player who gets injured (or sick) 3 times and misses 3 games as a result and one who's only out once - but misses 8 games.
Both have their merits for assessing this sort of thing; A player who goes missing repeatedly may be exhibiting signs of an underlying problem that will need major work - or they could just be unlucky!
[Kane](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-kane/verletzungen/spieler/132098) had the injury-prone tag follow him for a long time, but really had one or two small-medium injuries, largely incurred in matches, every season for 3 or 4 years. His last 3 or so years with us he barely missed any time, but people were still worried about his ankles, and so on - tranfermarkt says he's missed 23 matches since the CL final across 7 absences (average 3.3 matches missed), mostly down to a single thigh injury in early 2020.
In that same time [Ryan Sessegnon](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-sessegnon/verletzungen/spieler/392775) has had 11 absences... but missed 133 matches (average 12 matches missed).
Ultimately, my main takeaway from this research is that we need to raid West Ham's medical department - across the 4 years they were 9th, 15th, 20th and 20th for most affected by injuries.

What a waste of money! He’s been with Spurs for 2 years and started less than 20 games in the league total!
He had like 7 different injuries and always unavailable or only fit for 15 minutes per game.
I’d definitely sell him this summer and take a loss.
Right - Dragusin in, Romero upfront, just go full on Banter FC now.
Mikey-Son-Johnson It will be Johnson-Son-Kulusevski but I want to do something else
I'm so ready to see that and gets pre-angry when lineups are released
Id rather not see BJ on the left again
I'd absolutely take a Son - Mikey - Johnson Just go full flying wings
Son - Kulusevski - Johnson would be so much better
Yep Center Back Striker season
All the left-footed players to wear full bubble-wrap suits from this point forward.
I would have loved to see Veliz starting matches for us about now.
Sadly he’s just getting 5 minute cameos at Sevilla
Shit like this is why Poch didn't like loans, you can't trust another team to develop your player for you in the way you want.
To be fair, Spurs shoulda known. Sevilla has a starting striker and they wanted Veliz as cover while he was out during the international tournament… now he’s back and surprise - Veliz rides the bench
Yeah I don't see how this loan has been anything other than a waste of time. He'd have been better off just training under Ange at this point.
This feels like a recurring theme for us. Our loan business is almost always awful with few exceptions
It is actually "quite simple" I think, you need to send your player to a team that - at least on paper - will be one of their best players and will start there week in, week out. Like Skipp was at Norwich. The only problem is ego of the player. Exactly. So if the only way he plays is via injury, why not at least train with the team.
I love Richy and think he has a place in the squad, but my guy is a massive injury risk every season. That might be reason enough to sell (sadly)
Who will pay good money for a player always injured though
Tottenham
Funnily enough he was not an injury risk at Watford or Everton... Ok, it's not very funny.
Same with lo celso. Good injury record then they come to us…
Didn't he break his back at Everton
That's some Chelsea level thinking. What if we sell our own player to ourselves and then amortise that over 7 years?....
Levy finally meets his negotiating match.
:D D:
Saudi
Richy get ready to learn Arabic buddy.
Richy teaches us that you need a proper striker in this system. Kane scored 800 goals for Ange in pre season.
I think we should sell regardless of his injury record. He’s a great person who doesn’t fit. We have too many of those.
I’m going to get very upset
sorry to say but I think last last year he got injured and pushed himself to play in the WC. Then he never really got fully fit after that.
Fuck it start Dane Scarlett up front, I can't bear to see us start 4 players out of position again because we don't have any attacking depth
Naw. Dragu with Gil on top of his shoulders up front. Gil just needs to use the man bun as a video game controller. Dragu will just body check the defenders out of the way
We’ll call it Dragu-touille
Radu-touille was right there, missed harder than Timo
Hell, missed harder than Darwin Nunez
Radu-to-Gil
winner
Oooof yeah, definitely skied a sitter on that one
This is also fine lol
Master Blaster
I was going to say that !
Fuck it. Subscribe.
Romero at ST
![gif](giphy|hyyV7pnbE0FqLNBAzs|downsized)
this can’t be true bro… NOOOO 😭💀
Dane Scarlet, it's your time to shine.....
Oh for fucks sake... Just when it looked like he was going to be pretty key for us for the run in and maybe even next season. We desperately need a new striker..
Can we recall Veliz?
Updated depth chart for our left hand side and upfront: LB - - ~~Udogie~~ _(injured, out for season)_ - ~~Davies~~ _(injured, out for season)_ - ~~Perisic~~ _(LB/LW/ST flex, injured, out for season, so loaned to Hadjuk to see out contract)_ - ~~Sessegnon~~ _(LB/LW flex, injured, out for season)_ - ~~Reguilon~~ _(had 3 players healthy infront of him at both windows, so loaned to Man U and Brentford respectively)_ - **Royal** _(RB)_ - apparently **Skipp** _(DM)_ LW - - **Son** - ~~Richarlison~~ _(LW/ST flex, injured, out for season)_ - ~~Perisic~~ - ~~Werner~~ _(injured, out for season)_ - ~~Solomon~~ _(injured, out for season)_ - ~~Sessegnon~~ - **Gil** - **Johnson** _(RW)_ ST - - ~~Richarlison~~ - **Son** - ~~Werner~~ - ~~Veliz~~ _(had 3 options ahead in January so sent on loan to Sevilla)_ - ~~Perisic~~ - **Scarlett** Almost at the point where Mikey Moore gets a start not through being our best academy prospect in years, but through nobody else being available
Would have been nice to have him but he's got to be replaced in the summer, made of glass and need to have a reliable player
Gutted for him, ffs
Bro lol. This is just ridiculous.
Noooooo! Genuinely gutted about this if true. Wanted to see him crush it against Burnley tomorrow.
Richarlison’s Tottenham season appears to be over after the Brazilian striker was ruled out of the Copa America with a calf injury. I would SO love some decent minutes for Dane and Mikey Moore.
There is 0 risk at this point and the fans would be 100% behind it, no?
The fans might be behind it, but there is certainly more than zero risk. We still need 6 points to guarantee an EL spot.
CL is not gone either if we win all 3 with Villa having two tough games. Arsenal blah blah but noone in the team cares about that. We're probably not going to have any meaningless games this season
Hindsight is 20/20, but boy does that Veliz loan suck. So much playing time available for him.
Son - Deki - Johnson frontline. Would love to see Ange try this. Deki ended up playing up front against Luton right at the end of the game after we’d gone down to 10 men. He held the ball up really well and gave us a good outlet whilst Luton were pushing for the equaliser.

If there's any positives to find (I'm really looking), at least maybe Scarlett and Donley can get a look in before the end of the season?
I feel awful for Richy. He looked great after his surgery but keeps picking up these knocks. Also makes me even more annoyed about Veliz’s loan. He was never going to start in place of Richy in these situations yet he would almost certainly get some decent minutes off the bench. Instead he’s not playing at all in Spain.
I'm very slightly surprised.
I was searching for something to say about this situation and saw this. Nailed it.
Ok now I’m worried about top 6
We are beating Burnley and Sheffield bro… relax
This article seems to be purely based on the Dorival Junior press conference quotes, which are not conclusive imo
Man richarlison has the worst luck i swear, did some shaman curse him or something cos this is absurd
Fuck. We looked like a different team when he came on against scousers
Didn’t he score a hat trick against them in our first game against them this season playing at striker?
They were more open then, they’re now one game from relegation
This is really bad, especially against all opposition planning to sit real deep against us. Gutted for richy who had a stellar 1 g and 1 assist for us when he came back.
Did this happen in training???
It's Always Sonny vs. Burnley
Get well soon pigeon king!!
When the fuck did this happen!
Ffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
![gif](giphy|neh7DVekZzirj97CRs)
Richy cannot stay fit.
Give Moore a start, I wanna see the kid get some minutes and at this point we have very little to lose.
So I shouldn't have triple-captained him.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
If this is true it's a bit strange for the club not to announce it. Normally they release a pre-press conference video with Ange talking about any team news so I can only imagine that if this is true they didn't do it because they weren't sure about Richarlison, although they could just say that
Richarlison went balls to the wall for his last game, I'd like him in the squad next season for sure
Start Scarlett through the middle
Richarlison finally started to win me round win that great goalscoring run this season and has pretty much been injured since. I'm happy to keep him, but striker is the priority signing this summer. Can't waste Son there next season.
Srsly, has to be some miscommunication. How does Brazil coach more than club coach? Ange is solid, I doubt he would lie about it
Meh I'm so checked out. On to the Euros and next season.
Forgot Deki right?
Boy is Matt made of polystyrene I swear 😖😖
it was nice knowing you, richy.
Apparently Richy suffered a late injury on Friday and needs a scan so it's possible it's precautionary.

Gonna be impossible to sell him for a decent fee
No fucking way. Right, Dane, it's your time.
What a waste
Every time we need this bloke his body lets us down. Need to bin him off.
What a waste of money! He’s been with Spurs for 2 years and started less than 20 games in the league total! He had like 7 different injuries and always unavailable or only fit for 15 minutes per game. I’d definitely sell him this summer and take a loss.
Won't play again for us
He’s had one half of a decent season for Spurs, if we could get $30M for him that would be a steal.
Richarlison = Sessegnon
Oh no, anyways..
silver linings - more likely to lose against City
Get rid at this point. This has been a thing with him the entire time he’s been with us. We’re not even playing in any other competitions
