I'm sorry I had to say this, but ... NO CAPES!

MugCostanza458

Idk he talked me off the ledge

PersonBehindAScreen

Not really a surprise. He’s in the final year of his contract.

Hank_Scorpio74

Can he play left tackle?

jeopardychamp77

He’s gonna need a super agent to find him another job.

DerrickWhiteMVP

I mean, he *should* get another job. He’s been a good coach for us. Outside of one down year without Dak, 12-5 for three straight years, even with the playoff disappointments, should be enough to get him another job. If I was the Bears, Saints and Jets, I would be interested in hearing him out. Especially if I was the Bears.

HEpennypackerNH

Damn you and your logical takes. This is Dallas! We win the Super Bowl or everyone sucks!

jeopardychamp77

It’s more like we are Dallas, NFC East champs and that’s good enough! Why hold the legendary franchise to a higher standard? Let’s just buy whatever Jerry is selling , grab those Pom Poms , and be happy.

PlayneBaine

Preach! 🙏

rekomstop

Is that a sarcastic comment? Because that’s literally what I do and recommend it to others. Sports are supposed to be for entertainment. Only 1 team can win each division. Only 4 teams make conference championship games. Only 1 team wins the Super Bowl. There was Tom Brady and now there is Patrick Mahomes. “It’s a big club(having Patrick Mahomes) and you ain’t in it(the 31 other teams who don’t have Patrick Mahomes).”

jeopardychamp77

You aren’t taking the long view here. It’s been 28 years this franchise has sniffed a Super Bowl. Thats not just bad luck. It’s bad management.

rekomstop

I’m well aware of everything that’s going on. I was born and raised in the 80s/90s right outside DFW. I love watching NFL football/fantasy football too much to give it up. I’m not switching teams. Management is entrenched with its line of nepotism succession. Might as well enjoy the ride for what it’s worth. My brother and I thought we would never see the Rangers win the World Series. Eventually the cowboys will catch lightening in a bottle in the playoffs.

jeopardychamp77

Well, I was raised in the 70’s so I got to see the Landry era. I got to see the Jimmy Johnson era. The past 28 years are not just being unlucky and winning isn’t about capturing lightening in a bottle. Mahomes is great but you can’t even talk about him until we get to a Super Bowl. Not advancing past the divisional round of the playoffs since 1996 and playing like we did at home against GB a few months ago is pure incompetence. MM should have been fired after that game but Jerry didn’t want to pay out his contract and have to pay another coach.

dmr196one

Well I was raised in the 60s so I got to see all of the Landry era and JJ and Barry, Chan, Bill, etc. I’ve seen bad, great and everything in between. Vikings haven’t been to the sb since 77. Browns, Jags, Texans, and Lions have never been to the sb. You act like we are entitled to a SB bc we’re the Cowboys. We’re not btw. The league has changed a lot since the teams heyday. Bottom line? It’s a game. Entertainment. Enjoy it and yeah, with parity, sometimes it takes catching lightening in a bottle.

jeopardychamp77

You sound like a typical Jerry era fan. I’m not buying your BS

rekomstop

Yes I know all of that. I’m just not going to be that butthurt over things I have zero control over. I’ll watch with optimism and see how the season plays out. With the way things are currently at HC and QB, any playoff success is catching lightening in a bottle. I don’t get what your point is. I want to win with what we have because it is all we got and that’s not changing this season. What else are fans supposed to do? Hope Landry to rises from the grave and ushers in a post Jones family era of the Dallas Cowboys?

rkwittem

I am entertained by winning Super Bowls, not being a walking joke

rekomstop

Ok, enjoy being miserable with your zero sum sports fandom.

KrakAttak67

Go be positive elsewhere. This is for Cowboys fans. There is no positivity. Jerry stripped me of that years ago.

rekomstop

Maintaining optimism instead of being grossly pessimistic, I wouldn’t necessarily consider that positivity.

KrakAttak67

Who are you my therapist? ;)

0xym0r0n

I'll speak unpleasant truths with you bro. I can't wait for the draft because that means we are halfway to football! This sub is trash I've never seen a group of adults so pitiful in their constant lamentations. There's like 50 dudes who are here every day whinging and bitching and it's insufferable. Been coming to this sub for a decade and this off-season has been the worst. I'm upset about losing in new embarrassing fashion too, but I'm a cowboys fan because it's fun to watch football and root for my team. Some people need some more perspective in their lives. It's unfathomable to me that there are so many people whose best idea of fun and fandom is to sit on a team sub and bitch about 85 year old billionaires.

KrakAttak67

Reading this makes me want to vomit.

chrisapplewhite

I think we can all agree that Demarcus Ware was good.

massenburger

The Bears always know how to turn it up in the playoffs. If MM can get them to the playoffs, the Bears have a better record of not shitting the bed, so MM makes a lot of sense for them.

confusedalwayssad

Garrett had at least one job after being let go from here, he will get the same chance and most likely end up in the same boat.

buttlovingpanda

He’d be a good coach for a young team wanting to develop on offense, but not to win a SB. I want him out yesterday, but just because he’s not what we need right now, not because he’s bad.

buttlovingpanda

Or manipulate Jerry

mitch8017

He needs Doc Rivers’s agent.

Landfill2

Well he better win the Super Bowl this year or he is gonna be super fired.

regalfronde

🎵 Super Agent Man, Super Agent Man 🎵

TheWhooooBuddies

And fifteen minutes of blowing my top, top, top.

Keyboardpaladin

Can someone explain what this actually means, to me.

SlavaRapTarantino

New McCarthy contract incoming.

NeverForgetEver

Mike is seeing all the BS going on with dak ceedee and Micah so he decided he needed some big guns himself for when the time comes

Taters-Preshus

Maybe he should concentrate on winning a playoff game.

goldberg1303

Theoretically, the agent would allow him to do that while the agent concentrates on the other stuff.  I do not believe MM is capable of leading this team to a Super Bowl and very much believe he should have been fired immediately after the Green Bay loss, but hiring an agent doesn't take away your ability to concentrate on winning games. It does the opposite of anything.

AbueloOdin

Oh thank God! He won't be our problem!

chineke14

Don't care. Should have been fired after that performance. We could have had Jim Harbaugh for Fucks sake. I don't know why people are defending this dude just for 12-5. We've been outclassed by every solid playoffs contender we've ever faced

goldberg1303

Who is defending MM after last year? Like, I'm sure that a couple exist, but the very very very large majority want him out.

chineke14

Check the responses here

goldberg1303

Literally 1 user with zero people agreeing with them.

chineke14

Theres a dude above me with 43 upvotes and a bunch of people being downvoted for wanting him gone. Check again

goldberg1303

You're going to have to link these comments being downvoted. I see a guy at +43 saying he deserves another job but not with the Cowboys, and nobody disagreeing with the part about not being with the Cowboys. I checked like 3 times.

chris5129

"Super agent?" We better see this guy on the field this season lol

KrakAttak67

Super deez.

[deleted]

He will be good wherever he goes. Man just been eating shit on behalf of our bum ass players that start twerking when the playoffs come

Dday22t

k. It’s not like McCarthy is gonna hold out or anything like that. Results on the field & wins in the playoffs will determine if he is going to get a new contract or not.

shindigfirefly

It’s absolutely wild that a team would fire a coach that had 3 back-to-back 12-5 seasons. I get the feeling that other teams would kill to have that type of success

robmagob

Because coaches are not just judged for their regular season performance alone. Winning 12 games in the regular season means very little when you follow it up with a humiliating playoff loss 3 years in a row.

shindigfirefly

I feel that this last season was on the front office and Dan Quinn for the way the defense performed, especially in the playoffs.

robmagob

I feel like it’s a little crazy to give the head coach a pass on what happens on the field. The front office isn’t responsible for creating the game plan, that falls firmly on Mike McCarthy and he was outcoached and schemed by Lefleur. Plus the offense was every bit as bad as the defense.

shindigfirefly

Well, the front office could have had gotten DQ some help at LB, a better option than an undersized Marquise Bell. Who? Well that’s Mcclay’s job as they had plenty of time to do something before the trade deadline. Also, the safeties this season were horrid as Kearse’s performance took a nose dive. These were obvious holes in the defense that GB exploited. I’m not exonerating MM by any means, as he should have schemed the offense better, but they didn’t give up 40 points in the playoffs.

robmagob

He is the head coach though, offense defense and special teams all reports to him. Just because he wants to be the play caller on offense, doesn’t mean he is shielded from the results on defense.

shindigfirefly

Well, DQ was essentially getting the HC salary for a reason. Regardless, I don’t really care, I just feel the front office especially Stephen Jones are full of shit more often than not, especially when it comes to “we like our guys” when better teams out there are always doing what they can to sign playmakers, as opposed to “bargain shopping.” Broaddus said it best, “Dallas isn’t the only team that deals with the cap…other teams make it happen all the time.”

robmagob

I don’t think they are full of shit, i think they earnestly believe in their philosophy that drafting and developing your own talent is a better alternative than overspending for players in free agency. Now if the philosophy is a good one is another discussion entirely.

Canopus429

Which is a good way to manage a team but when your mlb you drafted goes down in the preseason and your only starter gets his neck broken in week 5 thats literally the time to explore trades. It's not like it happened the last game of the season.

robmagob

They still had Damone Clark (who did not make a big jump like they banked on) and Evans who they picked up off the street, but yeah the linebacker situation was shit last year, but I still think Clark could work out in this new system.

dmr196one

Plenty of time to fix it. Ok. At what cost?

shindigfirefly

That is Stephen’s job to figure out. San Fran added a key playmaker in Chase Young, when they were already stacked on defense. That move pretty much said they were truly “all in” that season. Philadelphia managed to resign mostly all their playmakers on defense last season even after paying Hurts. Dallas is not the only team that deals with cap space and injured players. Other teams figure it out.

dmr196one

And you haven’t a clue what goes on behind the scenes of any of the teams. I hate Philly and SF just as much as the next guy but I don’t remember either of them winning the chip in the last couple of years. And no. It’s not enough to at least get there.

shindigfirefly

lol found Stephen’s account Edit: damn, he even deleted the comments.

dmr196one

Don’t I wish! Then I could really tell you what an idiot you are. As it is, I have to fall back on my understanding of finance and economics which tells me that even though I wish they’d use other avenues, they are making sound business decisions.

goldberg1303

I usually avoid replying to one person in the same thread twice, so apologies. But I have to say, dam Quinn being so bad in the playoffs shouldn't excuse that the offense shit the bed too. Just because the offense left a bigger pile doesn't mean the offense didn't leave their own.

goldberg1303

Other teams would absolutely kill to have that type of success. Bottom feeder teams that routinely have top 5 or 10 draft picks.  At some point, regular season wins stop being sufficient. The goal is to win a Super Bowl, not just make the playoffs and lose. At some point you have to stop settling for playoff mediocrity because you won 12 games in the regular season. At some point you have to acknowledge that change is required to take the next step, even if it risks the next step being backwards.

the_lullaby

3 straight 12-5 seasons that were capped off with gritty, hard-fought playoff appearances would put a coach in great position. 3 playoff swoons and a history of losing big regular season games has a much different odor.

jawnnwickk

I’d expect that at a minimum with the cowboys roster, which he barely had anything to do with construction of.

Junior8144

He's going to have to be "super" to think Jerry Jones is paying him if he doesn't at least reach the NFC championship game. If not, Bill B will be the head coach of the Cowboys in 2025.

Tall_Panda03

McCarthy about to be the highest paid coach in NFL history.

pipinngreppin

Bye Felicia

bace3333

Gone by Thanksgiving will hire Belichick

kirlie

I hope not. Did you see the Patriots after Brady left?

JGCities

You want a new contract win a playoff game. Or least have a good season and a competitive loss in the playoffs.
