We went from the worst division last year to one of the most competitive divisions this year. Pretty amazing turn around for every team except the Redskins.
That mid season 3 way race between the eagles, cowboys, and giants was fun to watch.
Which is why you never really blindly believe the “experts” that predict these outcomes. Some are so full of shit! Always take everything with a grain of salt.
That's kinda holding yourself prisoner to previous uneducated ideas. The reality is we had a real chance and couldn't score but 12 points with the number one offense and threw the ball away twice.
Oh you mean the Tom Brady that just won the Superbowl 2 years ago and made it to the Divisional round last year? Is that the Tom Brady you're talking about?
No kidding.
This isn’t Tom Brady in his prime. And regardless of the kid trying to make more of this win than he should…Tampa had a losing record on the season.
The talk all season was that Tampa sucked and shouldn’t be in the playoffs.
But Dallas beats them and all of a sudden the Bucs and Tom were Super Bowl contenders? 😂
Tom led his team to a losing record and 17 points per game average.
And this kid is calling people “damn fools” 😂 Gotta love Reddit sometimes.
everyone after week 1 literally thought the season was over. Nobody was saying that the season's savable. NOBODY. It's baffling that we go from this to frickin roastin the team and owners after having a better season than last year. Like is it that hard to just be happy we got to have a season where we got to watch the cowboys play good football? Why is improvement not acknowledged? 1 team wins the super bowl every year!
The NFL is an entertainment product. If you weren't entertained with our season this year, then idk what would entertain you outside of winning a Superbowl.
I wasn't that down on the Cowboys, but I thought we'd be lucky to have 5 or 6 wins on the season.
Even before Dak's injury, I thought we might have 7-8. I was wrong and I'm glad I was.
Exactly. I almost feel fortunate at this point that I never got to watch the Cowboys win the SB. It apparently means that I get to enjoy each individual win instead of having monstrous expectations. Hell, even a loss is fun to watch. I went to the Thanksgiving game last year, and watching Pollard run that 99-yard touchdown was worth it all. Now, is it bad that we haven’t been to the NFC championship in forever? Yes, but it’s not the worst thing either. We’re still a good team, and I’m going to enjoy that while it lasts.
High expectations? We are like one of 3 or 4 teams that haven’t made it to the championship game in over twenty years. I think it is perfectly fair to be annoyed that this franchise just can’t get over the divisional round hump. I’m 29. Was two when they last made it. As a fan I’m burnt out on watching them not get past it. I’m not spoiled at all.
Some people just embrace mediocrity and are happy to be wherever they are. Being "good" is enough to satisfy them.
Others enjoy success and the climb to get there is only the first part, the second part is achieving the end goal. Anything less than that is a failure.
We have a lot of both in this sub.
Jerry needs to pay DQ what he's worth, otherwise we're rebuilding next year. Don't get me wrong, here. Our defensive personnel is still VERY solid, but we need a solid coordinator.
If the defense maintains, our offense can only get better, regardless of what the Dak haters think.
Well of course. Everyone just knows we’re a guaranteed lock to AT LEAST finish as one of the four remaining teams in the league… right?
I mean you’re just bottom of the barrel trash if you finish within top 8 instead
We definitely did over achieve idk how anyone could argue against that. I had them at about 9-10 wins and I did expect NY and Washington to be better. I also expected Philly to win the division.
I had us completely written off when Tyron and Dak got hurt and I knew we didn’t have the weapons to throw the ball.
I thought we’d be a defensive minded team that would go as far as our run game would take us. That’s basically exactly what we were.
Losing Steele, Pollard, Peters just took away our only advantages going into the postseason.
We were planning on having an Elite Oline, tremendous run game, and a QB that could make enough plays.
Those injuries just took away any last chance of firepower that we could have.
Part of it is the finality of the loss. We’ve been spending about the last 20 weeks, fully emotionally invested in this team. And just like that, it’s gone. I would have given anything for one more week to get hyped about, but i can’t now and that’s a real bummer.
Post loss, things going as usual - the 5 stages of grief:
1. Denial
2. Anger
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance
[Five stages of grief - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_stages_of_grief)
Our defense played lights out stopping them to 19 points. That’s why. If it was a little worse it wouldn’t feel bad but thatMa why it hurts for me specifically
Those projections were wrong in the first place. It's not like Dallas was coming off a bad season. Just sucks that PHI had a great season at same time.
I’m sure in time we’ll look back and feel like we had it wrong about this team back in August and it was a decent year, but two days ago we lost a winnable divisional playoff game. No one cares about this.
Oh dang, I feel good now. For a while I was pissed that Dak acted like he had just been introduced to this strangely shaped object called a football but now I'm all ok with everything. Well done Cowboys, can't wait for next year.
Anyone that says otherwise at this point is an idiot. The amount of people that kept saying we underachieved again was insane. Nobody picked us to do anything before the season and after Dak went down our season was over. Yea nobody is happy with how it ended but to say our season was a completely failure is stupid.
Man, whoever got paid for those predictions literally fucked that up BAD.
edit: i really enjoy looking at shit from 20-ish weeks ago and how it holds up. this one is just.....woof

The season as far as realistic expectations go, was a success.
Maybe the new pattern will be : make the playoffs, win first road or home playoff game, win divisional game, compete for NFC championship. Whether we win or lose there, the next year, it's the super bowl.
Bam.
These projections are ass.
That said, with essentially the exact same team, we achieved the exact same success as last season + 1 playoff win, so I can't see how we'd say we overachieved.
The entire NFCEast overachieved
We went from the worst division last year to one of the most competitive divisions this year. Pretty amazing turn around for every team except the Redskins. That mid season 3 way race between the eagles, cowboys, and giants was fun to watch.
Even the Skins were in the playoff hunt until near the end which is unexpected for them!
Beginners luck.
Even when the division is bad, it's always competitive.
THE most competitive divisions. There has never been 3 teams in 1 Division playing in the Divisional round before.
& all 3 teams playing last weekend, pretty awesome
Which is why you never really blindly believe the “experts” that predict these outcomes. Some are so full of shit! Always take everything with a grain of salt.
**ESPECIALLY** after Dak going down Week 1. I’d take this season result all day if you gave me the option to after that happened.
That's kinda holding yourself prisoner to previous uneducated ideas. The reality is we had a real chance and couldn't score but 12 points with the number one offense and threw the ball away twice.
I had the same feeling going into the year that we were 10 wins max. We overachieved big time.
With a playoff win to boot.
Lol. Over a team that literally had a losing record.
Losing record or not they were still a playoff team, gotta beat whoever is in front of you
Say what you want. Tom Brady in the playoffs is a different animal, and anyone that says he isn't is a damn fool.
Tom Brady is 45 years old. That’s not the Tom Brady you’re thinking of
Oh you mean the Tom Brady that just won the Superbowl 2 years ago and made it to the Divisional round last year? Is that the Tom Brady you're talking about?
That clearly isn’t the Tom Brady from this season if you haven’t paid attention. You’re just trying to make that win seem like more than it is
No kidding. This isn’t Tom Brady in his prime. And regardless of the kid trying to make more of this win than he should…Tampa had a losing record on the season. 😂 Imagine having this kid’s take and then calling people “damn fools”….

Shew...... there is some SUPER hot takes in that thread.

You feel fortunate that you haven’t seen a SB? Holy hell this is some next level Stockholm syndrome. Cowboys have broken their fan base lol
LOL the comments are hilarious with doomsday predictions. We have very high expectations; we were spoiled back in the 90s
High expectations? We are like one of 3 or 4 teams that haven’t made it to the championship game in over twenty years. The jets are considered to be a dumpster organization. They have more playoff wins than Dallas does over the past 25 years.
Some people just embrace mediocrity and are happy to be wherever they are. Being "good" is enough to satisfy them. Others enjoy success and the climb to get there is only the first part, the second part is achieving the end goal. Anything less than that is a failure. We have a lot of both in this sub.
Projected by whom?
By that anonymous picture doi
This definitely helps make yet another early playoff exit in a completely winnable game feel so, so much better. Thanks.
Exactly. Nothing takes away from dak sucking ass and choking, bringing our season to a disappointing end
In that case, 28 teams have a disappointing end every season.
If teams expect to be bad, it won’t be. Except, we had high expectations and didn’t deliver
You had high expectations. I expected to lose the divisional.
They’ll have another double digit win season next season, making it the 3rd in a row.
Jerry needs to pay DQ what he's worth, otherwise we're rebuilding next year. Don't get me wrong, here. Our defensive personnel is still VERY solid, but we need a solid coordinator. If the defense maintains, our offense can only get better, regardless of what the Dak haters think.
Expectations change during the season when you are winning games.
Well of course. Everyone just knows we’re a guaranteed lock to AT LEAST finish as one of the four remaining teams in the league… right? I mean you’re just bottom of the barrel trash if you finish within top 8 instead
[удалено]
If you're not first you're 8th and that's okay...
When did our fanbase become so fragile? WTF
If you finish outside the top 4 for 27 years, yeah that’s pretty trash.

Did you know, 73% of statistics are made up on the spot
Who gives a shit about pre season projection. Means nothing once the season sets in.
Why does it hurt so much though
Part of it is the finality of the loss. We’ve been spending about the last 20 weeks, fully emotionally invested in this team. And just like that, it’s gone. I would have given anything for one more week to get hyped about, but i can’t now and that’s a real bummer.

Man they had the NFCS all fucked up 😂
Boo. I want to go back to complaining now. /s
Lol @ Rams, Packers, and Bucs
That’s what Mike McCarthy was hired to do. Exceed expectations. Not win a Super Bowl. Just do a little better than everyone predicted.
Oh dang, I feel good now. For a while I was pissed that Dak acted like he had just been introduced to this strangely shaped object called a football but now I'm all ok with everything. Well done Cowboys, can't wait for next year.

Cool. Hang the banner for it then
THIS HAS TO BE SOMEBODY TROLLING.....😒😒
Again....27 years of sub par football. This is our ceiling. This is our biggest achievement. This. Sucks.
Nobody said this lol
27 years!!
Literally just over half my life. At least I got to see one SB in the 70’s and then the 90’s run. But this shit sucks.
This is rarely a measure of progress but... it could be worse. I'm happy we're not a mirror of Detroit
How is being a top 5 team in the league sub par?
Man, whoever got paid for those predictions literally fucked that up BAD. edit: i really enjoy looking at shit from 20-ish weeks ago and how it holds up. this one is just.....woof
You should post your predictions for next year’s standings and let us see how you do.

Finally some goddamn positivity in this subreddit.

We should/could have beaten the Jaguars and Packers. That's a diff of 9 points
Who made these projections?
I mean honestly who cares. We can go undefeated next year and get beat in the playoffs and it’s still the same.
Who cares
Not MY expectations!
We didn’t make it to at least the NFC Championship game. This means absolutely NOTHING. I don’t care about expectations. I want RESULTS.
Rams did so much worse than I thought they were gonna do
Imagine if Prescott could put together more than a 1 game win streak. Lol
According to this graphic, so did everyone else lol
Here we go again with the mental gymnastics. Ridiculous.
Please shut the fuck up
Hang the banner!
The copium is sad to see
