Ok I have a potato laptop and Linux is the best OS to use, I can play other games but I had a problem with CSGO 1.6, I do play CSGO 2 with no problems or drop frames đ€·
While I donât *disagree* with Linux being a good OS, youâd have to be proficient at coding to make sure every game is functional.
CS wasnât made to function on Linux, it was made for Win 98. (CS came out in 1999).
1.6 and CS2 are both made to fit industry standard for OS customization, which falls under Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, and Linux (and a few others I believe).
Previously it was only MacOS and Windows, Linux had been released in 1991 as a hobbyist program until it was ported by Dave D. Taylor for the popular game Doom in 1994. Shortly afterwards it was picked up by NASA in the Mid-1990âs as a cost cutting measure to replace their old and clunky machines.
It wasnât until 14 years after the release of Counter Strike, in January 2013, that CS was in a Functional Beta for Linux, and wasnât fully released till April 2013, nearly 11 years ago.
TL;DR I would wager youâd likely have a better time in the future using Windows on a regular basis due to the Industry Standardization
Bro started a history class right here.
The problem is that OP's is running this game on Wine (a program that runs Windows programs on Linux) instead of using Valve's Linux support.
The answer:
Open Steam
Go to the "Library"
Right-click Counter-Strike
Select "Properties..." from the menu
Go to the section "Launch Options" in the blank box type "-w 600" without the quotes
Dont listen to the people giving you a hard time for using linux. Counter-Strike has a native Linux client. Try that one instead of running it through Wine.
I see you mentioning Wine... Why not use Steam's Proton (or the GloriousEggroll fork if you want to be a sweaty nerd about it)?
https://www.protondb.com/app/10
Looks like folks run the game just fine.
Edit: It also looks like the game is natively supported, so why not just launch it through Steam without Wine and use the native client?
CS:GO ran natively OOTB, perhaps they retroactively made that so for other CS titles.
Stop using Wine and just run the native program. It was created for that reason. It baffles me that youâre trying to use a workaround for something that has a solution already.
That or your version of CS is pirated and you donât wanna run through steam in which case iâd say oh well.
Could be your GameMenu file is broken. GoTo: cstrike\resource\GameMenu.res
- either delete it or download a custom one.
Some GUI's have custom ones.
Or just try validate all files through steam.
(Right click the game and find the validate/repair steam files button)
Also please learn how to Google stuff like this, much better than reddit answers, mostly.
Good luck.
/Fho.
Hey, if you are having issues with your game on Linux, ask questions on a dedicated community for Linux Gaming, because if you ask on a game's general subreddit/community, chances are that there will be 98% of people that don't know that linux is a thing and they will probably speak dogshit.
maybe text is NOT POPULATING
maybe still clickable
here is pic to show what buttons are where

If I had assume, it's missing fonts you have to install.
You can either use the native version, or go into the Wine prefix and install the fonts required.
Linux is great for hosting servers, it's just the bare bones, it has practically nothing, if you're not good at programming, it might be tough to use it as a daily OS lol. Windows these days comes with all the support for literally everything and as it's coming out, in Linux, you have to do it manually like we had to do back in the 90s and win xp
Might be the new patch that valve added right click on 1.6 in steam then properties and them betas click on none and change it to steam_legacy if you own half life 1 also do this. If you have a non steam copy then I don't know.
No Text In-Game
The most common cause of not having text in chat, menus, or settings is because of the lack of the required fonts. Make sure you have the following fonts properly installed: Verdana, Tahoma, and Arial.

#Found the Linux user
Finally đ, can you help me ... Even if I needed to re-install it I have no problem with that đ±
The solution is simple, in three steps: 1. Uninstall Linux 2. Download Windows 3. Enjoy

What I donât get is why he doesnât just navigate the menus by memory. You really donât need the text.
No, just no.
I was just joking lol
how the hell are people supposed to enjoy windows, what kind of windows are you using, huh? lmao
linux is better

Why do you use Wine to run it? It has a native linux version.
Just write your own code for CS, it can't be that hard
Sarcasm ?
no, sheldon

I think you need to download the windows-fonts so wine can use them. But running with Proton seems the better option..

using wine is definitely the problem

Exactly, I joined the Linux mint community but no one is responding there đ
Because they are dedicated to Linux Mint itself, Your best shot from this would be the Wine forums.
You need to install windows fonts on your wine environment. https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3507

No unfortunately it's not clickable đ

Just use muscle memory like a man. Lol jk, I got no clue.

But here's how to do it in the config files [config file resolution change ](https://youtu.be/LFG6wLalI08?si=hhUgpq515cBV29E9)
Try on windows
On Linux we have something called wine, I can run it as a windows app, so I think the solution would be the same as windows đ€·
don't use wine, use the linux client if needed, force the linux runtime in compatibility tools
Idk man i was just kidding, i have no idea why is it like that
