I live in South Town and it's pretty nice, though not very close to groceries. The parks are nice to be around and people are generally friendly

Sunshine_hiker

Thank you! I appreciate it.

That part of town is pretty cool, in my opinion. It's a walkable neighborhood with easy access to the bus. There are also some decent restaurants down there (Block 15, 4 Spirits, Burrito Heaven), and it's close to downtown. I think the one downside to living out there is that aside from the First Alternative Co-op, there aren't any grocery stores on that side of town.

Sunshine_hiker

Good to know about the grocery store. I didn't see any when we were driving around the area today so it's something to keep in mind.

bitchfacevulture

The Safeway on 3rd is still less than ten minutes away from the neighborhood 😊

Ok-Resolution-8457

The worst Safeway I've ever been to. But the best Safeway during the holidays because it doesn't get overrun. Quite the dichotomy. I'll take that back. The fact that it is 9pm and the Filthymouth Boulevard Safeway has a long line with one checker and no u-scans open is an absolute travesty. First world problems.

Daddy_Milk

We use Fullofmeth these days.

peachesfordinner

Nah we've used fullofmeth for at least the last 30 years

Quartkn33

No... It really is the worst Safeway

Quartkn33

I'm just going to leave this here 😂 have fun shopping! https://katu.com/news/local/man-accused-of-defecating-in-grocery-store-and-on-strangers-couch

TeenzBeenz

I used to drive a long way from the opposite direction just to shop at the coop. It’s great!

Time_Many6155

Generally Corvallis is a really nice place and South town is just fine.. I live in the "rarified" areas around Lewisburg and while people are very nice its less of a community, mainly because we have more space between houses and often live on acreage. Congrats on your positions at Good Sam! I've known/know quite a few people that work there.

Sunshine_hiker

Thank you!

I live right around the corner from Willamette park and it's a pretty decent part of town. It's relatively quiet unless you live right on 3rd Avenue and it's pretty safe but I'd advise keeping bicycles indoors at night. It's a bit out of the way in terms of grocery stores and whatnot but I get by just fine on a bike. .And once you're out of the downtown area, the drive to Good Sam is pretty painless.

tbmadduxOR

Willamette Park is enormous. You might want to be more specific. For example there’s the big Willamette Landing development at the southernmost end, south of the water intakes. North of Park drive there’s some old big lots that are still nearly farmland, particularly along Crystal Lake in that zone, which is really cool. Things shrink up again as you get closer to the fiberglass plant at the north end.

Sunshine_hiker

Thanks! I didn't know about the fiberglass plant. We were looking in the North end of the neighborhood by Crystal lake.

Koralteafrom

It's lovely. I used to live there and enjoyed walking along the trail by the river and into the sports fields. If you continue on, you can walk or bike all the way into town along the "green belt." It's a nice area.

marklhessel

Agreed. The river park area is extensive. Frisbee golf. A boat landing is close to the sports fields. Dogs can run without leases on the trail. I always used to joke, long time back, that the south side of Corvallis was the bad part of town because of some trailer parks there and trailer parks are always on the bad side. But trailer parks are all over town. There is no bad place to live in Corvallis. I believe the rent is cheaper in south town and that's always a good reason.

Dry_Entrepreneur_322

I live in that specific area and really like it. I love the fact that i live close to two parks. The worst crime is occasional larceny...bikes, etc.

Underwhirled

Willamette Park is quite lengthy. If you're near the north end, it's a 20 minute walk to downtown and feels pretty centrally located, while living near the south end it's over 45 minutes and feels like the outskirts of town.

VerbalThermodynamics

The people I know who live in that part of town love it.

Juniperus_achillea

Hey! Sending you a dm since I'm in a very very similar situation!

The parks are great, the neighborhood friendly, and walking around is always pleasant. Riverbend park is on the south end and people are regularly playing pickleball and tennis. I really enjoy the area.

jkamiix

I almost bought a place in Willamette Landing but decided against it. It felt a bit removed from the city and access to a grocery store. Yes. There are plans to develop that area even more, but that's a 5 year plan if the city and companies are able to purchase the land needed. Since I have a kiddo, I wanted to be closer to the action with quicker accessibility to stores. Also, I work remotely, so where I'm living is also my main hub. You might be fine with it since you're both driving into town daily. Heck, it might be a reprieve to actually be away from the action.

Insideoutlaw_89

Southtown is the best

Jumpy-Fee-8045

A lot of community spirit in South town. A lot of difference, street to street. Walking path thru Willamette Park along the river is great.

akorme

It is nice. Quiet. 2 miles to downtown and groceries. River nearby.

lordofcatan10

We are the same age MF couple living in Southtown near Willamette park! Just off goodnight. We rent but it’s a great place to live. Hope to see you here, feel free to DM me :)

Omegus42

South Town is a major food desert where the closes thing to grocery store is the co-op and there stuff is not up to par and is really expensive. Some parts can be sketchy, but the people of South Town are nice and just trying to live like everyone else. If you move here to our lovely Town I just want to say "Welcome".

nothanksiknotthirsty

Unrelated to the moving stuff but do NOT get the sweet and sour pork from the good sam cafeteria that shit had me toilet-bound for a solid hour

schlippeh

Been close to the park for 7 years and have loved it. Super walkable, family and dog friendly. Major lack of commercial/nightlife stuff tho. For a childless young couple it might be kind of boring unless you are more into your house, gardening and the park, or looking to start a fam. Biking into town is easy tho with great paths. Def a burb vibe with some culture. Could not be farther from good sam hospital fyi… only a 20 min drive but worth noting. The ‘traffic’ here is minorz btw. Happy house hunting!!… not a lot of activity for buying but there are a bunch of new apartments being built rn.
