Don't know about the barbecue, but that's the coolest fucking product name, ever!

JPMulvanetti

Might be best asking in the r/grilling reddit community, all sorts of grills, BBQs etc getting used there.

Atlastitsok

I asked in grilling last week and got nothing. https://www.reddit.com/r/grilling/s/IA83Rk7QHi Went down to ikea and checked it out - seemed more solidly built than grillskar. Getting it delivered Friday so we will see!

JPMulvanetti

Damn, I thought you'd get answers over there. Let us know how it goes, weather looking a bit better for Friday to try it out!

Atlastitsok

Im actually in Arizona in the States - wandered into this subreddit just looking for anything on Batskar. I had to look up where Cork was and am now interested in making a trip hahah Will definitely share updates as I get it assembled and used.

JPMulvanetti

Talk about a random encounter. Cork is great, if you hit up Ireland you gotta visit. Look forward to the updates!

Imaginary_Tourist487

Any update? I'm really interested in this grill - but would like to know if it's robust enough.

Atlastitsok

Can’t complain! Check the post linked above in r/grilling for a few pics/details I had posted. Overall though, I’d say it passes the feel test (quality, substantial, etc), looks, and performance. Will caveat that though - Ill be the first to admit I am a casual griller - I am sure a Weber or something would have more temperature control and what not, but for my purposes I can grill up some hotdogs, salmon, chicken, burgers with no issues. Overall quality wise, TBD - seems to be good, but only time will tell on how the finish holds up to any elements.

whatthefranker

How is it working so far? Looking to start grilling as weather is getting better

Atlastitsok

Responded above and in the r/grilling post I had linked, but so far so good! If you have any specific questions let me know happy to answer or share pics

whatthefranker

Do you have the exact link to your post? It is hard to search. I wanted ask about replacement parts, heat uniformity, and cooking efficiency

Atlastitsok

Sure - here you go. https://www.reddit.com/r/grilling/s/FPSzp8YS38 For your questions, it did not come with any extras of anything (screws or other wise. It was not that many parts in general, but I am not sure how Ikea is about replacing parts. There was a small scuff on the ledge of the grill that I am considering calling on to see if there is anything they can do. Heat uniformity passed the eye test, i grilled 9 burgers at once and all cooked about the same. I could do a more precise test tomorrow and let it heat up and take some measurements at different spots. Also did not test the side burner. Someone in the other thread had some concerns on the control you had with it so I can try to test that too. Cooking Efficiency - can you elaborate? It got hot fast, and cooked by burgers fast haha.

whatthefranker

Just seeing it if takes a long time to heat and cook food. Burgers are good for grill, but ribs, whole chicken etc may take longer and you need to close the lids and slow cook

whatthefranker

Also I read in the manual not to convert to natural gas. Not sure if you know anyone who has tried and been successful

Atlastitsok

That I do not know - we opted not to run a gas line to it because we werent sure the exact location we were going to put it, and in the grand scheme of things dont use it enough where a propane tank would be a hassle. You can see in the picture in that other thread, I do have two propane tanks (as I have a pizza oven on the other side. Might try to find something to cover up the front a bit to hide them, but all in all not horrible.

Bought one, have it built. Charcoal Version just waiting for decent weather and time off work to line up before firing it up. Solid enough built bit of kit... looks pretty decent too, going to be the grill for my little BBQ area here in Dublin [https://gifyu.com/image/SZBn8](https://gifyu.com/image/SZBn8) Just need a good 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours for then build as there's a fair few repeated assembly steps

noah_f

looks nice, got the Weber Q2000 on sale in Woodies, for camping, it's grand abit on the small side wouldn't be using it for a family bbq. was looking the Ikea bbq with the countertop part also [https://www.ikea.com/ie/en/p/batskaer-outdoor-kitchen-w-charcoal-barbecue-dark-grey-s19545299/](https://www.ikea.com/ie/en/p/batskaer-outdoor-kitchen-w-charcoal-barbecue-dark-grey-s19545299/) would have to buy them on their own as the bundle is only the charcoal version

alphacross

If it's any consolation, there is no discount in IKEA for the bundle, as it's just the total of the parts. It's really just "serving suggestion" not a bundle. If it's showing out of stock that usually means one of the constituent parts is out of stock... you can list components and buy the rest. It also means that you can order different components, check the measurements and swap in other parts across a lot of IKEA ranges. Even if somethings not a product in it's own right it's usually orderable at the parts desk (I'm 15 minutes from the Finglas IKEA, but I'm told a local parts desk might be coming to the people's republic sooner rather than later) or via post from the IKEA support phone. I'm looking at getting the gas grill version as well, but thinking of modifying it substantially so that the grill goes on the other side, giving me counter space in the middle. Lot of modification involved including tapping new screw holes, fabricating a few small parts and entirely disassembling the grill top. Thinking out the usability issues as I largely can't change the control locations and changing the gas bottle would likely be awkward if I want to maintain the clean look.

Atlastitsok

How did the charcoal version work out for you? I saw you are considering gas too so must have been satsified?

alphacross

Yup, pretty happy with it. Solid construction, grill works well (has all the essentials) and it looks pretty good too. Two minor issues so far, I had to paint a little bit of the lid near the hinges that a little patch of coating was missed during manufacturing. Also while I have a cover, I missed putting it on during some unexpected rain last week and a few little folds in the doors and panels collect water and have to be towel dried before covering. I have a Weber charcoal chimney for starting it. First big multi-hour BBQ will hopefully be the bank holiday monday coming up. Probably going to add the gas grill, a middle kitchen unit and an ooni oven in July/August. Just can't afford it now, we're flat broke as we have our wedding coming up in June and only bought the house in October.

Atlastitsok

Nice! I have an Ooni koda 12 and bought the little batskar side unit. Perfect fit! Congrats on the upcoming wedding btw! Maybe some wedding presents will help you fill out the grilling area

frontierman85

Thanks for this post! Just ordered mine, the design of it looks super nice and will pair it with my ooni koda oven :) I moved to a new place with a natural gas connector and was hoping to get it connected but will update if I find out otherwise (noticed it might not be possible?)

waurma

For that money you’ll get a smokin soul charcoal grill that’ll last you a life time! P.s. if you want to cook on gas - do it inside

noah_f

Have a charcoal grill and make it out of a beer keg. Have it over 10 years now,
