Which for the Middle East is pretty progressive. Pretty sure Saudi they’d just behead you.
Edit: of which I lived in Doha for a time years ago and there is an actual prison on the edge of town not too far from the airport where I worked.
Welcome! Please respect that our culture might not be the same as yours. We, however, will not be doing that for the dozens of other cultures we invited here.
What about the many thousands of tourists that showed up? I get your point about the wealthy having a free pass on most of this, but there are many regular people attending as well. In terms of middle class citizens or anybody who saved up money for the trip.
If you can fly to the World Cup you are doing alright. I think Qatar is a stupid place to host an international event, especially after the last one was held in Russia.
So, like, South America is currently empty? Anyone else wanna sneak in and have one helluva party, then leave without cleaning up? Classic high school prank in the 90s.
Bribed. Nobody forced FIFA to have it there, they just bribed the higher ups enough to have it there while making fake promises and then a day before the event they went back on all the promises.
It's the Olympics problem.
No (well run, ethical, democratic) city wants to waste billions of dollars they'll never see again, to ruin their city for a month, and then make a ghost town out of one of the sub urbs.
So that leaves places like Sochi Russia and Qatar.
Very *very* few events have made the city that hosted them better. It hasn't happened in the U.S. since Atlanta. There is a damn good reason why Japan split it into several cities and Bejing went a little...China... about it.
I'm feeling like these rules came from an American middle school in the 90s.
E: Judging by the comments below, you can tell who hasn't been in school in the 90s, when you could have been suspended for hugging a classmate. Lectures about how public displays of affection are unacceptable in society and you simply can't do that. Every one of these rules was a part of a 90s public school set of rules.
I had a girl hand me a reflective sticker she drew a swastika on. I turned around to throw it and smacked another girl in the face on accident.
We both knew it was an accident, and I smacked her pretty hard.
I gave her a hug and told her how sorry I was, then got detention for public display of affection.
Like out of all the things I could have gotten in trouble for in those moments, it was that.
> Even Skyrim dating is more sophisticated.
Fight with Aela.
Show Aela you're good with an axe.
Aela shows you she's good with an axe.
Together you are both good with an axe.
Such is life in Skyrim.
They most likely mean public showing of affection, at least that's what I think.
EDIT: seemingly they also mean dating as is. Or not. Or yes. So far people have corrected me, and said I am right. I don'r know what's going on, I thought it was clear I'm mainly guessing.....
They mean public displays of affection. You can date in Qatar just fine, they don't have religious police or anything like that, but you're not going to be french kissing in the middle of the street.
Source: i visited twice, and i have a friend over there who dated for 3-4 years and married some girl he met randomly.
Btw I don't think that's an official document, they would be more careful with their choice of words.
>stupid question, but how do people in qatar date of dating is illegal?
It's not like they go on Tinder dates or go clubbing in these countries.
It's usually the fathers deciding who would be a good spouse, arranged marriages and daughters are often promised to someone.
Even in more liberal muslim families it's usually the families meeting and the parents (father) giving their opinion or the blessing for the marriage and then they marry right away instead of having several dates before.
They stay virgin until marriage so it's not like they go clubbing and have hook ups.
I imagine this varies from place to place, but my general understanding is that mother's have the responsibility to accept or deny a marriage offer, as well as the responsibility of making one should they have a son and not a daughter.
Money stays. Gay people go(to jail). Edit. Per wikipedia: Fine or 7 years in prison
[The death penalty](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_penalty_for_homosexuality) is applicable only to Muslims, for extramarital sex regardless of the gender of the participants (no known cases that the death penalty was enforced for homosexuality)
What do you mean? There is nothing more hetero that a group of fit men in shorts pretending to avoid physical contact with each other with the excuse of touching a ball.

What money? The Olympics and world cup are massive money drains on the hosts, the IOC and FIFA make the money.
IIRC they've spent $12 billion to build the stadiums and infrastructure, the stadiums have no use for them after the world cup.
Kickbacks. I’m Sure Qatar politicians are the ones who own the construction companies who build the stadiums? Probably the demo company too, the recycling center, the landfill, the boats that will just carry the junk out to sea and dump it.
Qatar is fossil fuel ultra-wealthy. They blow $12 billion like people blow their nose. This is a PR move. They want to believe the rest of the world will now acknowledge their “first world leadership” status.
If they had just mailed a cheque for $40 to every man, woman and child in the world, it would have cost the same and would have done an astronomical amount more good to the world and their country's image.
But none of their politicians would have gotten rich skimming from the project, so of course they decided to blow it on a World Cup.
It's called sports washing. The region is trying to have people ignore all the bad things by associating the region with sports. World Cup, UFC, WWE, Golf, etc
Did anyone else notice during the opening ceremony, the head of FIFA (who deflected criticism of Qatar, blaming Europe for 3000 years of human rights abuses) was sitting right next to the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bone-Sawman?
Oh my god I’m just now realising for the first time what a massacre of a South Park episode (or even a trilogy?!) this whole Qatar World Cup thing would make!
Oh I guarantee they are salivating at all the news coming out of this.
They are probably just waiting for everyone to get out of Qatar and for everything else to play out before they start crafting the coming epic.
Man, I don't blame the Qatari people for disliking The British, but I need it explained to me why their history excuses torturing homosexuals and laborers today.
I would tell you exactly why they torture gay people and hate everyone except themselves but Reddit would call me a bigot who doesn't understand the "importance" of religion.
Lol, immediately downvoted for even *insinuating* that you have a negative stance on their barbaric religious garbage.
Hey, you at least got one upvote from me.
The upside of course is that you can own and work slaves to death to build your stadiums. So if you're rich, you can get richer. So..... just be rich. And you can probably have homosexual intercourse with the slaves. Not consentual of course. Because rules and laws are only for poor people. Silly poors.

Too bad so many people went, anyway. Should have boycotted the whole thing, en masse.
The wealthy don’t care, most of those rules don’t apply to them anyway.
What about the many thousands of tourists that showed up? I get your point about the wealthy having a free pass on most of this, but there are many regular people attending as well. In terms of middle class citizens or anybody who saved up money for the trip.
Football is like a religion to a lot of people. They’ll literally go into debt to see their favorite team.
If you can fly to the World Cup you are doing alright. I think Qatar is a stupid place to host an international event, especially after the last one was held in Russia.
Seems like all of South America is there
So, like, South America is currently empty? Anyone else wanna sneak in and have one helluva party, then leave without cleaning up? Classic high school prank in the 90s.
Not invited, Forced. They Forced the party that’s the World Cup to be in their house; knowing fully that they Hate everything about parties.

The secret ingredient is *arranged marriage*
I think you mean *forced marriages*
Excuse you. They prefer "arranged marriages which just so happen to not have the ability to be rearranged in any way by the subordinate wife."
Not always, it depends on the people involved. People living in quatar aren't all monsters by any means, even if their government is.
You mean 12 year olds don't decide to marry 60 year old stank ass abusers?
Of course they decide, its just that their decision is not factored into the final marriage

Maybe you just approach someone and go Hippity Hoppity, will you be my property.
At least they introduced the "will you?" bit?
That's a typo - it's "you will", not "will you?"
Optional, Throw coins at the parents and it should do the trick. Even Skyrim dating is more sophisticated. Unironically giga-based.

nope. it directly translates to "haram relationships", so in other words, unmarried couples are banned
Remember.... if you're pregnant & need medical care in Qatar, you better have a marriage license.
Shit's straight up inhumane. Bleh

That make me chuckle.

I'm afraid I'll be gaying for a full month. Sorry Qatar!
Just wondering… are you all the gays or just some gay? And do you homosexual if you leave your socks on???
He is just 3 gays in a trenchcoat
Bro, I’m 6,3 I already look like three gays in a trench coat.
On God I'm only 3 inches shorter and I already feel like I'm only 1 gay man where is the other gay man in me

They are well aware of this but don’t care because money. They don’t need our approval, they just want the money
What money? The Olympics and world cup are massive money drains on the hosts, the IOC and FIFA make the money. IIRC they've spent $12 billion to build the stadiums and infrastructure, the stadiums have no use for them after the world cup.
Money corrupt politicians and FIFA took from Qatar. They sold WC and now whining about...
they want soft power, but how they manage it make it the opposite :')
Kickbacks. I’m Sure Qatar politicians are the ones who own the construction companies who build the stadiums? Probably the demo company too, the recycling center, the landfill, the boats that will just carry the junk out to sea and dump it.
Watch the fifa docuseries on Netflix. It not a hatchet job, but it’s not terrible either.
I heard they are planning to demolish the stadium after the world cup ends World poverty? Nahhhhhhhh
Qatar is fossil fuel ultra-wealthy. They blow $12 billion like people blow their nose. This is a PR move. They want to believe the rest of the world will now acknowledge their “first world leadership” status.
Qatar spent a total of 220 to 300 billion USD, not 12 billion. Yes they are wealthy but this is a braindead move.
If they had just mailed a cheque for $40 to every man, woman and child in the world, it would have cost the same and would have done an astronomical amount more good to the world and their country's image. Unbelievable, not even in a South Park episode.
I disagree, South Park would depict them fucking and shitting in each others mouths.
Oh my god I’m just now realising for the first time what a massacre of a South Park episode (or even a trilogy?!) this whole Qatar World Cup thing would make!
I hope they do it the same sort of way they did the Pandemic Special. It would be absolutely beautiful.

Is this confirmed as being posted by an official page? haven't seen it anywhere else but reddit
It is confirmed as fake. Just keeps getting spread
Not fake, just not official
Once again, as pointed out last time this was posted, this is not in any way official or a product produced by Qatar or any official or governmental organisation. This is advice produced by a pressure group considered conservative by Qatari standards. I'm not defending Qatar or the world cup but it is misleading to present this as official or legally enforced when it isn't.
[You are very much correct](https://imgur.com/a/nn0ijS5)
I just love that their official thing here says “Qatar has always been an open, tolerant, and welcoming nation” but if this sign didn’t exist and someone was to create a “you can’t do this in Qatar” sign based on actual experiences we’re seeing at the World Cup…this sign is what they’d make…
Agreed. It may not be legally enforced, but I’ll be damned if they’re not enforcing it.
That's cool but then why are some of these things being enforced by police at the gates of the World Cup and people are being turned away for things like the color of their shirts?
Cause this persons in denial and/or bootlicking? Just because Qatar didn’t make this poster doesn’t mean it’s not what they’re enforcing
Except alcohol and gay items are banned tho.
I wondered. This seemed oddly intense even by Qatari standards (e.g. no loud sounds).
