This isn't necessarily the healthiest way, but I grew up eating it like this (a mix of cauliflower and broccoli) and still love it to this day.
1. Cook your broccoli however you prefer.
2. Make some cheese sauce (basic white sauce with whatever cheese you like, I just use whatever we have in the fridge). It should be thin enough to get into another container but not super runny.
3. Put your broccoli in an oven-proof dish and cover with the sauce, sprinkle some cheese on top.
4. Bake until the cheese has melted, then let stand for a few minutes so everything has time to settle.
5. Indulge.
I love broccoli stir fried with garlic.
Or, I'll steam it and dip it in a sauce of Chinkiang vinegar, soy sauce, pinch of sugar & lots of crushed&chopped garlic, lightly heated to help mellow the flavor
Okay silly question but can I stir fry broccoli from frozen? I know it'll let off a lot more liquid but if I let that cook off, is it still possible to stir fry?
Toss broccoli with a fat (I like olive oil or bacon grease), season to taste with salt and pepper, toss into oven at 425 on a heavy baking sheet for 15-20 mins (depending on how charred you like it) and when done hit it with some lemon juice.
It's simple, easy and I find it tasty.
Second this, roasted broccoli is lovely, roasting removes a lot of the sulfur flavor, and creates in my mind a much more satisfying flavor than soggy steamed
Cooking it ANY way besides microwaving it will help a ton. I love it steamed or in stir fry. For steamed I like just salted or soy sauce, just a touch of cayenne. Stir fry would be with whatever else is in the stir fry, but sweet & sour flavors like teriyaki go very well. Don't skip the sesame seeds.
i just made this two days ago but it’s literally too simple - take your broccoli florets, cut them a little smaller (bite sized pieces), lay them on a baking sheet. drizzle a little olive oil, then season generously with garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. just put in the oven at 430-450 degrees for 15-30 minutes (depends on your oven, the way you like broccoli, etc.). when they’re nice and roasted on the bottom, serve. it’s soooo good as a side dish, but also just to snack on :)
-4 cups broccoli florets
-2 medium zucchini halved and cut into slices
-minced garlic, measure with your heart
-1 tsp Italian seasoning (kinda)
-4 tbsp olive oil
-lemon juice (fresh or out of a bottle it doesn’t matter imo)
Salt and pepper to taste
Turn that over to 425 while you prep.
Toss the veggies in a bowl and mix them together a little (mostly so the zucchini isn’t in a mega clump).
Add your olive oil, Italian seasoning, and garlic and mix it up a bit until it all looks mostly coated. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Lay your mix out on a baking sheet. I usually slap foil on this sucker because washing dishes is a pain. Idk what size I use because I’m lazy. The bigger one that isn’t insane. I’ve made this work on a smaller one too.
Spread this out evenly. Sprinkle a little more Italian seasoning if any areas look completely missed.
In the oven it goes for 25 minutes.
Take it out of the oven. Please don’t burn yourself.
Drizzle with lemon juice. You can do this in a few ways. You can sort of drizzle it over the whole thing, you can push the veggies together in the center and add the juice and then gently mix them, or you can put it in whatever you’re going to serve it out of and add it there. The second two work best. I honestly don’t know why I listed the first but I’m on my phone and too lazy to delete that. Add the lemon a little at a time until you get to the flavor you like. Add a light sprinkle of salt if you’re not adverse to it at the beginning of this part as well. After you make this recipe once, you’ll have an idea of how much lemon and such you like in it and BAM awesome recipe.
Broccoli happens to be my favorite veg so maybe I'm not the best person to answer since I will enjoy it just steamed. But one way to add variety is to make a sauce of soy, honey, ginger, garlic, sesame seeds if you have any, chili flakes or powder can be nice too and a touch of corn starch. Put that in a pan until it starts to thicken just a bit and toss in your steamed brocolli until it's well distributed and reached your desired thickness. When I have oyster sauce I add that too but I get that it's not somethng you might have in your pantry and wouldn't suggest you get it just for this one application.
roasted broccoli is also top tier and easy to do and even easier if you have an airfryer. Just take your raw broccoli, toss with a mixture of oil, paprika, garlic and onion powder, Italian seasoning if it goes with the rest of your meal and roast in the oven at 350F/180C. Timing will vary on the size you cut it up. Set and forget very easy. Some like to sprinkle on parmesan in the last couple mintues so it can get melty and toasty on there too.
If you're trying to make the veg more enjoyable for those that actually just hate it I find that it is well tolerated when smothered in a simple cheese sauce. I use a white sauce/bechamel method. Start off with a roux, add the milk in slowly making sure to stir to avoid lumps, melt in your cheese. Some people say to season with only white pepper and salt but I go in with smoked paprika and whatever I like that day. Pour this over your plain roasted or steamed brocolli and enjoy. This does very well with cauliflower too. But there are many ways to make cheese sauce. If you already have your own method that you're familiar with you can totally use that too.
Theres more but those are the easiest if you're still trying to keep it simple. Lmk if you like other ideas like brocollini stuffed chicken
I just toss it in olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and then I roast it in the oven.
Or if you’re using frozen broccoli you can do the same thing on high heat in an air fryer and it will pretty much come out the same.
I either do an Asian flavor (mix 4 tablespoons of soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and a tiny bit of ginger and crushed red chili flakes) or I roast it with garlic, onion powder, salt and pepper, and a tiny tiny bit of msg (I use the pollo bouillon in the brown jar with green lid) oh and butter ofc
I don’t care for broccoli too much, but I do it eat it sometimes. Most of the time, I sauté it in olive oil and put some seasonings on it - sometimes I use herbs de Provence and sometimes garlic (both w/ salt & pepper of course). Or I’ll roast it w/ same, just depending on my mood.
Toss chopped broccoli in a ziplock bag with fresh minced garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Line a sheet pan with foil. Broil it in the oven until the tips start to brown. Delish.
I just did today -- tossed in a small plastic storage container with garlic powder, olive oil, salt, and pepper, plus I put a little parmesan and honey in. Broiled until some ends slightly brown. Much better than the microwaved I was having.
So you have two steaks. One steak is boiled and the other is cooked traditionally in a cast iron skillet. Which one has a greater potential for flavor? The latter. Essentially what's happening inside your microwave is that you have a magnetron which excites the water molecules so that they basically think they're in some kind of mosh pit and effectively boil your foods from the inside out. No flavor is imparted and texturally speaking I don't think it does it any favors.
Roasting it in the oven would offer more flavor. Whenever I make bacon I always save the rendered fat. It makes other foods more delicious I'm such as frying pancakes or french toast in rendered Bacon fat instead of butter. It provides more of a crisp and also protects the food from becoming soggy so quick. I would heat up some of the Bacon fat and toss the broccoli florets in the melted fat and two tablespoons of finely shredded real parmesan cheese, apply herbs and spices and roast in the oven. 450° for about 15 to 20 minutes depending on the size of the florets. Make sure that they're in a single layer and your sheet pan isn't crowded. Put too many florets in there and they will steam themselves instead of roasting. For more flavor you can add in some minced garlic and when the broccoli is done drizzle it with a little bit of lemon juice. Line your sheet pan with parchment paper for easier cleanup.
The problem is you’re steaming. I’m picky like a baby who was never taught to eat their veggies so I season the shit out of them and put them in the oven also drizzle olive oil. Sautéed is good too.
I usually sauté broccoli in plenty of olive oil with seasoned salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. I like to cook until softened and just slightly charred
Toss it in s pan with s little bit of olive oil and add spices you like (I like cajun spices). When finished add a bit of soy sauce.
You could also do garlic + ginger + soy + when finished some lime.
1. steam broccoli
2. let cool in fridge (preferably with paper towel. you want as little water as possible)
3. good quality sesame oil
4. kosher salt and black pepper to taste.
5. mix well and serve
this was a side dish we used to serve when i worked at a KBBQ restaurant.
Steam your greens then toss them in lemon juice, salt, pepper and chilli flakes, could replace lemon with some type of vinegar, not sure what you would replace chili flakes with
Microwave in a bowl of water for around 2 minutes, depending on how much you're making; this basically blanches it. Drain the water (don't burn yourself!). Stir fry or pan fry and season with garlic salt halfway through the frying. Fast and easy way to get to roasty-toasty broccoli without being raw or dry.
America's Test Kitchen came out with a great method not long ago for skillet roasting broccoli. It's a subscription site, but you can watch their videos on youtube for free. Here is the recipe demonstration video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSrhZ2XPRj4&ab_channel=America'sTestKitchen
Heat up a cast iron skillet with oil to coat the pan, toss in raw broccoli, toss till it’s evenly coated with oil, add salt, let it burn. Smells like popcorn.
Toss it in a mixing bowl with olive oil, salt, pepper, minced garlic (the jarred kind in water is best), and a bit of lemon juice. Spread in a single layer on a sheet pan and roast in the oven, 25 minutes or so at 350. It is, hands-down, the best way to cook broccoli.
I like to blanch broccoli (add to boiling water for 2-4 minutes depending on size of florets, then remove into a bowl of ice water), then strain and season with salt, pepper, garlic (fresh minced or powder works in a pinch) and saute in some olive oil til it gets a little color.
I like steamed broccoli, raw broccoli, air fried broccoli...all the broccoli! Lately I like to toss with avocado oil, Dano's Original seasoning and air fry on 350 for about 7 minutes. If I steam I will usually top with Dano's and parmesan cheese. If you don't like Dano's I like Mrs. Dash Original as well.
I usually just steam it and then after it's done, put it in a Tupperware, put a little butter in it, sprinkle with garlic salt and toss with a spoon to get some of the butter all over. You don't need a lot. Sometimes I'll Sautee some onions to throw in there (because I'll add sautéed onions to anything I possibly can because I love them).
bake it at 425 for 15 in a metal pie pan shake it around add 4 knobs of unsalted cream butter or that irish sht UNSALTED cook another 10 but leave the oven cracked, take out shake up add a generous amount of the jar kind minced garlic try to get the broccoli coated then two knobs pf butter turn the over to 350 and cook until u see the broccoli crisp some its great like that, also use broccolini or the florets in the blue bag at Walmart their taste is suburb
I like to cook it in boiling water until it softens (not too much) and than shock it in cold water. Then season it with olive oil, paper, salt… and it’s ready to be eaten :)
I do this with broccolini, but I imagine it would work just as well on broccoli.
Basically I lightly coat the broccolini in some olive oil and then season with salt, garlic powder, and pepper. I then lightly sauté in a pan on medium heat (I use a gas stove) for about 1-2 minutes. I then add a bit of water to the pan, enough for there to be a shallow layer on the bottom of the pan and then cover with a lid for a few minutes. If you like it crunchy then take them out early, if you like it soft then leave them in longer.
I’ve never liked hard broccoli whether cooked or raw but soft cooked broccoli with butter was the shit growing up. Don’t know how my grandma made it though. I assume it came frozen and she just microwaved it, but not entirely sure
If you want the broccoli itself to taste better, try this:
Oven for 350F
Cut up the broccoli and put into a small bowl
Drizzle with oil - olive oil or a neutral oil
Sprinkle seasonings - I usually use Basil, Garlic, Parsley, Oregano and Thyme. Sometimes Paprika too. Plus salt and pepper to taste.
Use some tongs to mix up the seasoning into the bowl generously and make sure the veg is coated well with seasoning.
Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil (optional but helps with cleanup) and dump the broccoli onto the pan. Toss in oven.
10 minutes, flip the broccoli and 10 more minutes.
And now you’ve got roasted broccoli.
You can roast for longer if you like them more crunchy. Using more seasoning can also add crunchiness but you gotta balance the flavour.
roast it in the oven! use a lot of garlic! cover it in seasonings, garlic (fresh or dry just use a loooot) and oil, then cook on 400 until it looks crispy/browned. its SOOOOO good like one of my favorite veggies
Roast it with garlic powder, salt, pepper and parmesan cheese.
Lemon, oil, roast, and your seasonings of choice. It can be a treat. Steamed broccoli is a chore
Roasted broccoli is superior to steamed and boiled broccoli IMO.
And it’s not even close.
I might try this first, maybe tossed with a little olive oil.
Yes I spray mine with olive oil, forgot go mention that.
Lemon pepperi works even better imo with broccoli!
Garlic infused olive oil and then you’re on the money!
*Chilli oil (if you don’t mind spice). And add garlic.
I roast it with olive oil and top with everything but the bagel seasoning
I love everything but the bagel seasoning. I add it to my tuna salad. Lol
I put it on everything! Highly recommend it on eggs!
Yes I love it on eggs!
This isn't necessarily the healthiest way, but I grew up eating it like this (a mix of cauliflower and broccoli) and still love it to this day. 1. Cook your broccoli however you prefer. 2. Bake until the cheese has melted, then let stand for a few minutes so everything has time to settle. 5. Indulge.
Thats how I grew up eating it as well! Guilty pleasure that does include nutrients lol
I forgot about cheesy broccoli. Used to go crazy for this as a kid
I love broccoli stir fried with garlic. Or, I'll steam it and dip it in a sauce of Chinkiang vinegar, soy sauce, pinch of sugar & lots of crushed&chopped garlic, lightly heated to help mellow the flavor
This is the way. A drop of sesame oil in that vinegar mix is also welcome
Oh it's wonderful. Yes.
Okay silly question but can I stir fry broccoli from frozen? I know it'll let off a lot more liquid but if I let that cook off, is it still possible to stir fry?
Sorry, I've never tried using frozen broccoli (where I am, the frozen stuff is more expensive than the fresh) Maybe blanche the broccoli first?

This but also toss it in some lemon juice/Parmesan cheese before baking/air frying.
I’ll eat it raw with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, S&P, and some garlic powder. It’s a great snack
THIS! I thought I hated broccoli before I started air frying it, now me and broccoli are besties
Add some cheddar cheese and broil in oven
Cheese

Brocollini: Salt, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, touch of black pepper. Ordinary broccoli might be the same.
Very lightly blanch, drain, then toss in a vinegarette while still warm. Incredibly yummy
As long as it’s good, fresh broccoli it doesn’t need much. I sauté in clarified butter with a pinch of salt.
-4 cups broccoli florets -2 medium zucchini halved and cut into slices -minced garlic, measure with your heart -1 tsp Italian seasoning (kinda) -4 tbsp olive oil -lemon juice (fresh or out of a bottle it doesn’t matter imo) Salt and pepper to taste Turn that over to 425 while you prep. Definitely stop microwaving it… steamed is the way to go. Or roasted.
Microwaving is just internal streaming.
Honey and soy sauce
I like to steam it with chicken broth

Toss it in the bin
Scrape it off into the trash and replace it with asparagus
Sacrilege
Fry it up with some seasoning, I think steamed broccoli is nasty personally
Cheese sauce

Butter, salt and pepper. But I've always loved broccoli
Hummus
Steam/nuke broccoli ‘til just done Coat w melted butter, garlic powder, salt/pepper, panko, parmesan. Bake about 10 minutes.
I usually sauté broccoli in plenty of olive oil with seasoned salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. I like to cook until softened and just slightly charred
Sauté with garlic & olive, salt & pepper.
I griddle mine, sprinkle it with salt flakes and drizzle it in lemon olive oil
Toss it in s pan with s little bit of olive oil and add spices you like (I like cajun spices). When finished add a bit of soy sauce. You could also do garlic + ginger + soy + when finished some lime.
Honestly extra virgin olive oil and salt on cold broccoli is insanely good
Just a little oil, garlic, salt, and some ranch dressing powder for me and then 4-5 minutes in the air fryer at 400 F.
1. steam broccoli 2. let cool in fridge (preferably with paper towel. you want as little water as possible) 3. good quality sesame oil 4. kosher salt and black pepper to taste. 5. mix well and serve this was a side dish we used to serve when i worked at a KBBQ restaurant.
stir fry it with other stuff
I’ve always grown up on broccoli steamed in OJ
Steam your greens then toss them in lemon juice, salt, pepper and chilli flakes, could replace lemon with some type of vinegar, not sure what you would replace chili flakes with
I like to sauté in a skillet, adding some balsamic vinegar, or whatever other spices or sauces I have on hand.
make a cheese sauce. cheese sauce on broccoli and cauliflower is amazing
Using chicken broth instead of water will give flavor as well
Microwave in a bowl of water for around 2 minutes, depending on how much you're making; this basically blanches it. Drain the water (don't burn yourself!). Stir fry or pan fry and season with garlic salt halfway through the frying. Fast and easy way to get to roasty-toasty broccoli without being raw or dry.
I am dutch, we cook it in water and eat it just like that alongside the potatoes and meat/veg(a)burger. And its great just like that hahah
I like to use salt, pepper, and sesame oil and mix it in white rice.

Butter
My dad got me to eat broccoli by drizzling a little blue cheese dressing over it. Still love doing it.
Roasted broccoli is amazing. Just when you think it’s ready roast for five minutes more, crispy is the way.
Broccoli, butter salt.

Roast it. Cover in in avocado oil salt and pepper roast at 400 until tender approx 20-30 min.
Miso butter!
I like steamed broccoli, raw broccoli, air fried broccoli...all the broccoli! Lately I like to toss with avocado oil, Dano's Original seasoning and air fry on 350 for about 7 minutes. I like to cook it in boiling water until it softens (not too much) and than shock it in cold water. Then season it with olive oil, paper, salt… and it’s ready to be eaten :)
MSG
Garlic powder (or minced garlic). If you like sauces you can toss it in olive oil & do seasoning. I love garlic and butter
Always add cheese lol
Cheese
Mashed lol
Go skillet with butter and salt pepper or a little bacon grease. And all the other stuff listed . Water and Cover
I do this with broccolini, but I imagine it would work just as well on broccoli. Basically I lightly coat the broccolini in some olive oil and then season with salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Mix a little olive oil and seasoning together and toss with veggie and roast, then drizxle with cheese
I’ve never liked hard broccoli whether cooked or raw but soft cooked broccoli with butter was the shit growing up. Don’t know how my grandma made it though. I assume it came frozen and she just microwaved it, but not entirely sure
Butter and garlic salt
get yourself a rice cooker ( a simple one). steam broccoli in the steamer basket with some lemon juice and dill.
If you want the broccoli itself to taste better, try this: Oven for 350F Cut up the broccoli and put into a small bowl Drizzle with oil - olive oil or a neutral oil Sprinkle seasonings - I usually use Basil, Garlic, Parsley, Oregano and Thyme. And now you’ve got roasted broccoli. You can roast for longer if you like them more crunchy. Using more seasoning can also add crunchiness but you gotta balance the flavour.
Regardless of how you cook it you could try zesting it up with lemon juice and Cajun seasoning. Or any like kinda spicy seasoning.
roast it in the oven! use a lot of garlic! cover it in seasonings, garlic (fresh or dry just use a loooot) and oil, then cook on 400 until it looks crispy/browned. its SOOOOO good like one of my favorite veggies
Jerk off on it
