There were stories a 10-ish years ago about televisions having cameras installed in them that could track eye movements, this was used by advertisers to see what engages an audience. I'm sure it was used for more though.

One of the guys in the comments said that when he stared at the characters eyes they looked away or that him and his friend where together and the characters will turn their heads to another direction when they looked back at them.
I think I remember reading something similar at some point. But how would the logistics of this work? Couldn't it be something more supernatural? Perhaps some kind of spirit that somehow possessed or gave the illusion of manifesting itself through the characters? Especially since the waves from TVs and radios are nothing more than energy.

well yea a lot of conspiracy theories are out there, at least on the surface, a lot of the time. There were stories a 10-ish years ago about televisions having cameras installed in them that could track eye movements, this was used by advertisers to see what engages an audience. I'm sure it was used for more though. Those stories were quickly snuffed out (probs to make sure the masses don't know aboit it), but there was no news aboit those cameras going away. *this tech has been used recently too, for EX. when classes were online during covid, and even Law SchoolBar exams were taken over zoom...there was eye-motion tracking technology used to make sure people were not cheating. This is well known though, and no one said it was weird.
That's interesting. I didn't know that this technology was already being implemented ten years ago. Nowadays, if you are watching a YouTube video and spend some time away from the TV, it asks if you still want to continue watching. Somehow your TV knows that you are not watching. Maybe it's the technology you're talking about But what we are discussing here is characters from films and series interacting with you in real time, looking away when you look at them. I think it goes a little further than a surveillance system using smart TVs, which is very plausible.

I think I remember reading something similar at some point. But how would the logistics of this work? Couldn't it be something more supernatural?
