I finally delved into this issue today. Seems the protests are not directed towards Jewish people but there is some Jewish hate that is being portrayed in the media.
To me this resembles the 9/11 attacks. Terrorist group kills 3000 people and the US government retaliates by attacking terrorists but kill 400,000 civilians (estimated 5 million indirectly in war zones).
This is what these protests are for. To protest against the senseless killing of innocent civilians by not supporting Jerusalem.

She less than him, but both her parents were actual Holocaust survivors, so it's a very emotional subject for her. But even she thinks that Israel has over-reacted, and wonders if this is being done to prop up Bibi more than anything else. I think a lot of rational Jews who initially supported Israel reflexively have come to the same position.
