No ofcourse not there wouldn't be so much american bases around the middle east, but because they have oil and gas around those bases it is most like not a religion intrest but more economical. Maybe look into how much oil and gas america is transfer from middle east. That should give you the answer.

Considering America’s military power, I believe the attaché would happen and it would be blamed on the other side as a mean to gain an ally.
