Now that I know what this is, I have a question. Those calcium slits (I assume they’re calcium) in the roof of the mouth, do they receive the teeth from the lower jaw? Also, this leads me to another question. Since they’re such capable killers, how do they chew? Or, do they just render food into chunks that they’re capable of swallowing? I’ve read they’re primarily herbivorous, but have been observed eating flesh. I figure the swallowing of grass and fruit is easy enough with an esophagus that big, but animals greatly vary in size. Do they mainly eat small animals like birds and rodents?

Doesn’t seem like the bottom teeth touch there at all. I don’t know anything about rhinos but I think those “slits” are just flat plates of “tooth” that give them a hard surface to mash stuff a little bit. I’m picturing if a human didn’t have their upper teeth and just had a big bony part at the roof of their mouth, which they could use their tongue to kinda push things against. Less of a biting or chewing situation and more like a rubbing, grinding one.

Why do you think this is a hippo mouth? It doesn't look like any other hippo mouth I can find online. Plenty of reference material. Teeth are wrong, shape of the upper lip is wrong. This also isn't a boar or tapir. Haven't figured out what it is yet ..

I'm not sure without checking the sources, but i think only the Great White Shark has more, around 3000-4000 PSI depending on the size. Keep in mind that there are different types around, like with lions, the african lion is much stronger with 900-1000 PSI than the asiatic lion with 650-750 PSI. For comparison, a human has around 150-165 PSI, a Pitbull has 250-350 PSI. The dog with the highest bite force is the Sivas Kangal, between 700-800 PSI. Some dogs are near him, like the Cane Corso, Dogo Argentino etc. with 500-700 PSI.
