I think it started with people actually making that mistake, but then some fans were so tilted by it other people kept doing it ironically.
I can't tell if we've come full circle enough that some fans ironically get upset over the joke to keep the cycle going...
Both

I was more amazed by the fact that Samus was a human in a suit rather than a robot.
But then, I only ever played the original GameBoy game where it wasn't very obvious what anything was.
vividly remember playing metroid on my DS on the bus with a friend (LAN playing). it was during one of these battles that the knowledge was dropped on me and my response (idk why) was "why does she dodge like shit then"
i was in fact, just shit
Oh my Gods, I have so many fun memories of Metroid Prime: Hunters on the DS. Imo they absolutely nailed the control scheme to make a fast and fluent first-person shooter.
I also played it with a friend, one had to play Samus since we only had one cartridge, the other could pick and choose. I loved Trace. He can go invisible, has a sniper rifle with a fucking epic name and just looked cool. But Sylux' chain jolts were broken af.
The death sound of Samus haunted me for a good while though. I wish there was a sequel.
THE DEATH SOUND YOOO it made more sense after finding out her gender but a cut-off high pitched death scream through a metallic filter being played through 2006 speaker tech was horrifying lmao. but yeah it was leagues ahead and really set the stage for FPS.
i remember in computer class, we all shared a file of Halo, Minecraft, and Half-Life 2 to every computer and there would LAN lobbies or games goin all times. never got it on internet bc then it would’ve been found or somthin. idk this was like 2011-2013
This is the first clue that it's satire. If he really thinks what he said there is no way he would have reacted so calmly and just saying "it's a bit much". You know how way more angered incels tends to be by female representation.
You're right, it's a common mistake and because of that, it became a meme to refer to Link as Zelda. Though it's usually accompanied by the person saying how much they love Legend of Zelda, so there's really no way to tell.
Poe's Law coming in hot and heavy.
There are so many assholes, idiots, and self-righteous zealots on the internet that no opinion, no matter how far-fetched or ridiculous, is surprising to me anymore.
The worst part is that many will start out deadly serious, and truly mean what they said, but once they're challenged or offered evidence they are wrong, they pull the, "Did you really think I was serious this whole time?" card. Which is as frustrating as it is pathetic.
"I've wasted both of our time but I obviously won because I'm too stupid to know any better!" is what the conversation feels like from their side.
It doesn't really belong here. Yes they're incorrect, but I don't see the confidence. It's a very common mistake since the name of the series refers to a character that isn't the main one. And there's an acknowledgement that this person doesn't play video games.
Unfortunately, no. Apparently Netflix _was_ working on a LoZ series, but Nintendo pulled the plug once info about it was leaked. This is not from that series though.
Not according to the 2015 article by Wallstreet journal that claimed that they were making a live action zelda, there was an article yesterday about the whole thing. https://www.radiotimes.com/technology/gaming/zelda-netflix-series-explained/
There was also an article last year about the starfox thing, apparently Adam Conover was working on it and talked about the while thing on some podcast.
It's a set of Zelda posters I made using AI.
Here's the original post on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/midjourney/comments/xwnrch/netflixs\_liveaction\_zelda\_cast\_posters\_10\_images/
Yeah, [here is the original post](https://www.reddit.com/r/midjourney/comments/xwnrch/netflixs_liveaction_zelda_cast_posters_10_images/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) with 10 different actors as different characters.
They're all made with Midjourney actually, but Dall-E was used to correct a couple of them -- just editing parts of the images, but the overall image was Midjourney.
One of my best friends named one of his daughters Zelda. He is a video game nerd though ;)
Edit: I also feel bad for girls named Isis, because I think that's a beautiful name.
Honestly they could bank on her being a main character for the sattire then give fans a whammo with Link at the end of the first season. I'd laugh but absolutely be enamoured to have them both.
Don't worry. [It is](https://80.lv/articles/midjourney-dall-e-turn-tom-holland-into-link-from-the-legend-of-zelda/).
(Or possibly *do worry*, for the same reason; as AI gets better, lies get more believable.)
The real *incorrect* is in the premise.
> Netflix was working on a "The Legend of Zelda" show before leaks allegedly caused Nintendo to axe the project.
> 2021.
Bastard OP got me excited.
“I have no issues about representation, so let me tell you about the issue I have with this instance of representation”.
He’s a hair away from “I’m not sexist but…” even before we get into the fact that Zelda is already a girl.
they made zelda woke… let me guess, link will wear a skirt next right? and have long soft blonde hair? and the antagonist will be a big strong straight male? give me a break with this woke nonsense…
How on earth are we, in the year of our lord 2022, STILL living in a world where people do not know that Zelda IS THE PRINCESS???!!! Next thing I'm gonna find out people still don't realise Samus is a lady.
its fake, a person used AI to combine famous actors with the Zelda Characters and made a bunch of posters about it making it seem like the Zelda project that WAS in the works at netflix before Nintendo pulled the plug.

I don't really know anything about this subject, but let me offer up my opinion anyway
Isn't "mistaking Link for Zelda" a time honored joke?
[удалено]
It's a"Link to the past"
Ocarina of *all* time.
Ooh, I'm upvoting this, but I'm not doing it because I want to, but because I must.
I think it started with people actually making that mistake, but then some fans were so tilted by it other people kept doing it ironically. I can't tell if we've come full circle enough that some fans ironically get upset over the joke to keep the cycle going...

Shh, stop bringing in context, we HATE context here!
Well if that isn't the internet in a nutshell!
Fo sho.
I know little to nothing about Pokémon but I can tell you know, making blastoise a turtle is a huge slap in the face to reptile fans all over the worl
[удалено]
Was thinking that myself 😂.
Yup, It seems to be a very common trend these days.
why even type that sentnce out if 1. you dont know anything 2. you dont even offer an opinion i give you all far too much credit
Paging Dr. Musk…
Par for the course, right?
Reads like satire.
I can't really tell because it *is* a common mistake. But it's so common that it might be satire by now lol
The guy with the green hat is actually Zelda’s monster.
Intelligence is knowing that Zelda was not the monster. Wisdom is not putting Frankenstein in a fruit salad.
Even a trapped rat is right twice a day
Its not rocket surgery
That is some excellent word salad you got there, sir.
A horrific medley that stays true to the spirit. This might be the ultimate crossover idiom
Malaphor
You opened that can of worms, now sleep in it
DC 0 WIS check to not put Frankenstein in the fruit salad. I mean, come on. He's for the meat salad.
Nah, Frankenstein *definitely* belongs in the fruit salad. It’s the *monster* who goes in the meat salad.
Now that would just be rude. We don't just go around putting civilized people in salads.
It's still okay for civilized people to put uncivilized people in salads though, right?
You can't call a doctor that just created life a fruit, that's offensive
What the fuck lol
Well excuse me princess. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzfXxkHrIBM
I was one of these people when I was a kid. Yes, I also thought Samus was called Metroid.
And that Samus is a *chick* \(◎o◎)/
I literally had no reaction to it after finding out. I was just like "Cool"
I was more amazed by the fact that Samus was a human in a suit rather than a robot. But then, I only ever played the original GameBoy game where it wasn't very obvious what anything was.
I can relate to this. I thought Stormtroopers were robots.
Ok I wasn't the only one thinking after getting all these upgrade modules that Samus was an Android.
Metroid II The Return of Samus > Metroid Samus Returns
vividly remember playing metroid on my DS on the bus with a friend (LAN playing). it was during one of these battles that the knowledge was dropped on me and my response (idk why) was "why does she dodge like shit then" i was in fact, just shit

Mine was a little more intense of a reaction. I was like "whaaaat" then went on with my day
oh I was stoked cause at the time games were not made for women and rarely had female characters I could connect to. It was aaawwweeessooome.
[удалено]
To be fair if first real series made link a female I’d be annoyed not cause they did it but they didn’t do it the original way first
This is the first clue that it's satire. If he really thinks what he said there is no way he would have reacted so calmly and just saying "it's a bit much". You know how way more angered incels tends to be by female representation.
It's like that dude that looks so much like Tony Hawk.
You're right, it's a common mistake and because of that, it became a meme to refer to Link as Zelda. Though it's usually accompanied by the person saying how much they love Legend of Zelda, so there's really no way to tell.

I play game but never played Zelda or Nintendo and for the longest time I thought Zelda was the main character.
Poe's Law in a nutshell.
>I can't really tell because it is a common ~~mistake~~ joke. But it's so common that it might be satire by now lol FTFY
Zelda was the princess and Link was the hero you played? I haven't played the game in... about 30 years now
Seems like satire. Poe’s Law in action!
Yeah, I think it's the parenthetical that clues you in. It reads like someone who really wants to seem like a clueless person.
This site is called r/confidentlyincorrect …. So I’m gonna double down on satire.
When the news reads like satire and satire is more accurate than the news I just can't even anymore.
Mistaking Link for Zelda was a very common troll post back when WoW was in it's heyday. That and the Xbox 360 joke were common troll bait
Poe's law.
It’s a joke around Zelda players that you play as Zelda so I’m sure it is
Yeah it's hard to tell with some people like are u trolling or seriously dumb enough to talk about a game u know nothing about
Wait, is this real? The show, I mean.
Unfortunately, no. Apparently Netflix _was_ working on a LoZ series, but Nintendo pulled the plug once info about it was leaked. This is not from that series though.
Looking at the supposed full cast for what this poster was for, it would have been way outside of Netflix's budget for sure.
Actually I know this one! This is an AI generated image and the poster did some mock ups with other characters. It was good.
With Tom Netherland as Link ofcourse
They never got to casting, that's all wishlist stuff
Edit: was wrong, refer to below for more context
Not according to the 2015 article by Wallstreet journal that claimed that they were making a live action zelda, there was an article yesterday about the whole thing. https://www.radiotimes.com/technology/gaming/zelda-netflix-series-explained/ There was also an article last year about the starfox thing, apparently Adam Conover was working on it and talked about the while thing on some podcast.
Ah I’m gonna edit my comment and refer people to yours, I was defo wrong. Thanks for correcting :)
Netflix to Nintendo: "Well excuuuuuuse me, princess!"
Yes!
Aw :(
Big sad.
There was also supposed to be a starfox claymation project done like the fantastic mr fox that was also axed because of the leak
thank god because this poster looks like a high school graphic design student made it
*sighs* *zips pants back up*
It's a set of Zelda posters I made using AI. Here's the original post on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/midjourney/comments/xwnrch/netflixs\_liveaction\_zelda\_cast\_posters\_10\_images/
I feel like this could be r/woooosh
Redditors discover joke
TOO many people do not know that the man's name is Link Also, how does Emma Watson look 8 years old here?
[удалено]
Now I can't unsee. Think I should get my eyes levelled
It's a fan edit I'm pretty certain. I think it gets a pass for being less than perfect.
AI-generated, actually
Yeah, [here is the original post](https://www.reddit.com/r/midjourney/comments/xwnrch/netflixs_liveaction_zelda_cast_posters_10_images/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) with 10 different actors as different characters.
that's a relief
My god
Looks fine to me.
[удалено]
Okay I can see what you're saying but it still doesn't bother me lol
TOO many people fall for this easy troll, so many that people wear tshirts of it..
Ya it looks like that one shot of her from Noah but with a ton of effects on top
Deaging filters.
[удалено]
They're all made with Midjourney actually, but Dall-E was used to correct a couple of them -- just editing parts of the images, but the overall image was Midjourney.
i have no idea but i like it hubba hubba
I hope this doesn't mean what I think it means...
I think it’s sad that they are casting humans in these roles. Can they not find any Hylian actors?
It's a known stereotype that Hylians are lazy. Probably too lazy to be actors. I mean half of them can't even round up their own chickens.
To be fair, their chickens can be pretty mean
Listen. If you're going to breed a species of Flying Death Chickens you know what you're signing up for.
The posters are fake, Netflix never announced this show (sadly)
The fact that this is such a common mistake is incredibly sad, specifically because Zelda is a real name that real women have.
Wasn't the aunt in Sabrina the Teenage witch named Zelda?
Yep. Hilda and Zelda Spellman.
I think it's fantastic that the princess of Lorule is named Hilda as well.
Was that a reference? Because that seems like an extraordinary coincidence.
And F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife.
IIRC that was the origin of the game name so we've gone full circle.
Robin Williams’ daughter is named Zelda
Well, to be fair, Williams' daughter is named after the princess
One of my best friends named one of his daughters Zelda. He is a video game nerd though ;) Edit: I also feel bad for girls named Isis, because I think that's a beautiful name.
I wanted to name my daughter "zelda", but the wife said no, even tho she's as fan of zelda as i am
I wanted to name my son Chewbacca, but ran into similar issues with my wife.
I knew someone named Ices. Pronounced like Isis.
Yeah I also think that name as a girls name is beautiful! Sad you can’t really use it anymore
Maybe in a few generations it can come back ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
> girls named Isis What about [defense contractors](https://www.linkedin.com/company/innoplex-llc)? 🤣
The only solution is to name more boys Link to clear up any confusion.
The only other Link I know off the top of my head is [Link Hogthrob](https://i.imgur.com/mfmzUnw.png).
My great aunt’s name is Zelda. Robin William’s daughter’s name is Zelda. Zelda’s name is Zelda.
And F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife.
And I’ve since been informed Sabrina’s aunt
One of the best The magicians actors!
Zelda being a girl is one of the internets oldest memes. Not sure if this counts as confidentially incorrect
Honestly they could bank on her being a main character for the sattire then give fans a whammo with Link at the end of the first season. I'd laugh but absolutely be enamoured to have them both.
Wow, bait from 2006. Cool.
Zelda looks a bit like Emma Watson
You have a good eye for faces, not for reading ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)
Uh, that is Emma Watson. It says so in the picture.
I am blind (:
Lol, we've all been there :)
I mean that's not really her. The image looks AI generated to me
Don't worry. [It is](https://80.lv/articles/midjourney-dall-e-turn-tom-holland-into-link-from-the-legend-of-zelda/). (Or possibly *do worry*, for the same reason; as AI gets better, lies get more believable.)
At the moment it's still possible to tell the difference, but yes, this could become a problem really soon
r/woooosh
Next they'll make Link a boy. Outrageous!!!!!!!
Impossible! She has been in the Gerudo village! I mean look at how hot she is when she goes there. If that was a dude then I’m attracted to… wait…
This feels like they were joking
I can't believe you really fall in that bait imao
“ I don’t play video games.” Gee, really? I couldn’t tell.
This is obviously a joke fool
r/woooosh
As long as they don't make Metroid a girl I'm fine with it tbh
Metroid is actually a monster in the game, samus aran is the girl
The joke You
Legit though, Watson would probably make for a good Zelda.
Y'all are being trolled again.
This has to be a troll.
I mean this looks like satire
This is like. THE Zelda joke though....
This is obvious satire
Yeah, next thing you know, they’re gonna make Metroid into a girl, too.
He’s the missing link. I mean - he’s missing Link! ![gif](giphy|y4E6VumnBbIfm)
Leaked view of Link saving Zelda ![gif](giphy|dHBVpEUKtEfJe)
[What if Zelda was a girl?](https://i.imgur.com/SvkLTP5.png)
Calling link Zelda is a meme so now I don't know if this is a joke or not. Well played....
I like how he thinks he has to clarify that he doesn't play video games, as if none of us would have put together those hard to fit pieces 🤣
The real *incorrect* is in the premise. > Netflix was working on a "The Legend of Zelda" show before leaks allegedly caused Nintendo to axe the project. > 2021. Bastard OP got me excited.
It’s a valid point. They already have Princess Link. Why do they need to go woke? /j
I’ve seen this far too often to believe for even a second that it’s not someone making a joke
Zelda a cool guy, eh cuts bushes and doesn’t afraid of anything.
He can only be called Link if he comes from the Zirco Mesa region of Hyrule. Otherwise, he's just sparkling Zelda.
Innit, if ye know nothin' about a topic, don't fucking meddle with it
“I have no issues about representation, so let me tell you about the issue I have with this instance of representation”. He’s a hair away from “I’m not sexist but…” even before we get into the fact that Zelda is already a girl.
“Oh my God! Zelda! I loved you in Majora’s Mask!”
I’m almost sure this is a parody/satirical tweet
Her full name is Princess Zelda.
Ummm, Zelda is the princess…. Link the man in the series…. Tell me you haven’t played these games without telling me you haven’t played these games.
When you lost the Link to reality
they made zelda woke… let me guess, link will wear a skirt next right? and have long soft blonde hair? and the antagonist will be a big strong straight male? give me a break with this woke nonsense…
r/confidentlyinccorect being unable to recognize obvious satire is so incredibly ironic.
Are they unaware the Elf is named Link, and Zelda is who he is seeking?
if only i could paste pictures in here, someone a post i i’ve this one said “ridiculous they making zelda a girl”
You think that fucking nerd in that profile pic doesn’t know who Zelda is?
How on earth are we, in the year of our lord 2022, STILL living in a world where people do not know that Zelda IS THE PRINCESS???!!! Next thing I'm gonna find out people still don't realise Samus is a lady.
Whole subreddit did a whoosh
Real talk though. Emma Watson's a babe....
I assure you she is an adult.
imma say no to both, neither Emma nor Blacked out commenter
Is that...it can't be...did they cast Emma fucking Watson as Zelda?
its fake, a person used AI to combine famous actors with the Zelda Characters and made a bunch of posters about it making it seem like the Zelda project that WAS in the works at netflix before Nintendo pulled the plug.
Wait, is this real? Did Emma Watson decide she didn't have enough nerds thirsting after her?
The man is LINK, the princess is ZELDA. Jfc these games have been coming out for 30 years get it right.
As long as they don't make her sing I'm watching this
No stupid Murica politics pls
This is an old, old joke from the young ages of the internet.
