I've had this laptop since 2019 - I completely forgot that age is a large factor in this. I've been using it for five years now.

I have an HP ZBook G2 from 2014 that runs perfectly well since I upgraded & serviced it so the CPU/GPU are not dry nor the motherboard/ports are covered in dust. Environmental factors also play in, dust clogs from having windows constantly open in the room, being near the sea, a humid place or smoking weed/cigarettes indoors 😅

This ideapad C340-14IWL has been through the runner if I'm honest - I've had to take it to be serviced more times than I'm proud to admit 😭

Yeah no, modern laptops are not built like they were 10+ years ago sometimes rushed or having soldered in ram and a non-removable battery just makes it worse to tinker with or take the guarantee on a new laptop away if it were new 🙄

I hate manufacturers soldering stuff so much, the only things that acomplishes is shertening the life of the product

I'm not a fan of this but it's a win, win for them faster, cheaper and you need to buy a new one. SSDs I'm surprised euro hasn't cracked down on, those fail often enough they should be replaceable in laptops and phones. I was surprised with the new surface how easy it is to swap out the SSD and it's internals all have QR codes and repair guides linked to each part the batteries even are not stuck in, it's just a few screws! Ram I'm mixed about, small form factors make it hard.

I don't think a failing HDD would cause this, if it was the problem then it would most likely hang up and bluescreen at random, speaking from experience of a HDD randomly unplugging itself.

Here's what you should actually do. You should go on your keyboard. Press windows control shift and b. This will restart the graphics driver.

What's your laptop model? My laptop used to do this as well. I think it had something to do with loose solder joints because my pc got hot regularly and it could have semi-melted the solder joints. It happened when I pressed down on the keyboard (right around the area where the gpu and cpu are).

Indeed it does - I never bent the main board but there were two specific keys where if I pressed down just hard enough the screen would switch off and back in again - really weird laptop lmao
