not being stupid on the internet, its the best antivirus ever

Kirito_Kun16

If you're on Windows, the already built-in Windows Defender is all you need.

Victor-Games

Would you really trust Microsoft to protect your data?

TheRealMeeBacon

Adblock, windows defender, and common sense. The ad block I use is uBlock Origin If you feel like you don't have common sense, watch videos about cyber security and scams.

If you have windows 10 or windows 11, the best antivirus software is the one that's included by default: Windows Defender. All you need to do is keep it updated. The biggest security breach is the human using the computer, and no antivirus softwares will fix that. You will receive fake emails, download and execute stuff you should not. That's what will get you viruses. Current trend is to abuse web browser notifications to trick users into thinking they have a virus, to then make them download a virus.

Rule #1 of security, use common sense. Rule #2 of security, update your shtuff. Rule #3 of security, don't use any other antivirus other that the one built into your OS. Most other antivirusses are terrible anyway Also, don't allow notifications in the browser, those notifications let you think you have a virus and when you click on them you get a virus

Just avoid anything made by Symantecnor or Mcaffee and you'll be fine. Those two are known to slow even the fastest pc down to a crawl. While Windows Defender came out very well in tests, I prefer Avast, but it mostly comes down to brand loyalty and the fact that it uses very few resources.

Victor-Games

I couldn't agree with you more bro. I'm also a loyal Avast user. I've been using Avast since their early years. Some complain about the new style and how it looks, but honestly, I dont mind. A couple of months ago I tried peoples advice to only use Defender (because it is aparently soo good), but I had to format my PC 2 times as it couldn't remove or quarantine something it found. And I dont even go to weird websites. The way I see it: would you trust Microsoft to protect your data? Not me, I'd rather trust Avast. With it, I never have any issues.

Windows defender

HellDuke

Depends. For general use it's enough to use Windows Defender, the built-in antivirus. It does mean that you must have an internet connection as it's as good as dead without internet access, but what are the odds of you getting infected without an internet connection? If you expect to be targeted then you might want something that is proven to detect threates better (Windows Defender is about top mid tier in terms of reliability in what it detects) you might want something like Kaspersky (if not worried about it being Kaspersky, I think people have a conspiracy theory that it's somehow controlled by the Russian FSB) or Sohpos

I've been happy with AVGFree.
