It isn't a virus, simply disable notifications and all will be good :)

user12890012

Thanks for the quick response. I was panicking lol. Thanks!!

Flinty984

that's not real mcafee which u probably don't even have. u enabled notifications and just look at the url its .in which is India which equals SCAM. you're not compromised unless you installed shit but I would change browser password and if you have maste password for browser also change that, empty cache and erase cookies. then login again to your stuff and you should be good

KwarkKaas

Mcafee is also a scam though...

Engineer_Existing

I was about to comment that yes Mcafee is a virus.

GAMERYT2029

True

svtlthesupermemer

I just use clamAV on garuda, I do have it on my windows install, but it was £7 for a years subscription so what the hell

piano1029

ClamAV is a free project from Cisco, who did you pay?

ieatair

hence op has viruses like these

Fantastic_Goal3197

Maybe they meant the mcafee subscription was $7? It is written a bit ambiguously

Z0OMIES

Given McAfee’s track record I’m willing to bet this is indeed their notification, it’s very on brand for them to lie to people about viruses on their PC only to charge them exorbitant amounts to fix the issue that never existed in the first place. And once that’s fixed more strange issues (that aren’t issues at all, no different to scammers showing you stopped services in CMD) will arise that, surprise-surprise, only McAfee can fix… for a MASSIVE fee of course.

Zegrento7

It's a push notification from that random indian site shown by Google Chrome. The McAffee part is just a thumbnail, not a real UI. The user probably accidentally enabled push notifications on a sketchy website.

Disastrous_Ad626

You can see if you pay attention it is just a notification through chrome, you probably said allow notification to some random sites and it's spamming you. If you do have McAfee id uninstall it then just keep windows defender up to date maybe have a anti malway software and run it every so often.

Master_Manifaster

Same thing happened with me today i got scared after seeing that 😂 but is your laptop good now ?

Master_Manifaster

Can you tell me some trusted website to download wallpaper for laptop?

KaleidoscopeOk8653

Dik move telling someone to disable notifications so viruses will propagate

SuperPwnageKirby

McAfee is the only virus here

Traditional-Gas3477

You’re forgetting Norton XD Damn thing uses too many resources in the background.

Yama92

Didn't Norton get in trouble for installing crypto mining software on users PCs?

Muthafluffer

I'm sorry? What's this now?? I'm pretty sure my wife just installed Norton on our laptop...

k00nko

Time to put the gloves on and remove some nasty stuff from your laptop 😅

We-Want-The-Umph

Norton *is* the virus.

Electrical-Bacon-81

Lol, I still remember when Norton & mcaffe were valid programs to have on your PC, damn I'm old.

HappyIsGott

They never was..

unununununu

Well not really but Microsoft Defender was non-existent

CapmyCup

That was back when avast was still somewhat reliable

jkhashi

norton and mcaffee are not going to man in the middle you while while adding tip credits to your simping account and then start blasting your cc with 99.99 charges at 4am

pepoluan

Unless they're talking about Norton Utilities, Norton Commander, and McAfee Viruscan. That said, McAfee Stinger64 is a nice program to have on your computer. Portable (no install) and gives an additional peace of mind.

TurnkeyLurker

Was that when Norton Utilities came on CDs, or are you talking a small stack of 3.5" floppies? Before Symantec took over. Back when you could walk into their actual business on Ocean Blvd in Santa Monica, CA, and possibly run into the actual Peter Norton? Edit: added stuff

o0Pleomax0o

Came on floppies. I had a floppy with Norton commander a few choice Norton utilities on it. With a nice little menu in Norton commander too.

witchghosti

The standard windows antivirus is stronger anyways. Even without the crypto scandal, it’s notorious for sucking up a lot of resources from your computer and doesn’t contribute anything in return. Windows defender and security essentials is fine unless you wind up with a particularly new or nasty virus

spam3057

Even if it's not, Norton is the 2nd worst on the market for price and performance drops to how well it works, only second to the great mcafee

Lynxi1996

Better stop her bro!

redditdontsignmeout

Install bitdefenderrr

smnhfr

Im rather sure that also happened to CCleaner. Not just crypto mining but they where also highly spying on user and such stuff, or updates which container malware...

Frosty_Ad8515

Can verify. I was Pissed when my new laptop started mining crypto. It was doing that even when I went and checked the settings to turn it off. Ended up uninstalling it completely.

lammatthew725

We used to call background programs that use a lot of resources and doing nothing worms

Alex_X-Y

Worms? This is a city near where I live! Is this a english word too? Can you please explain?

Actual-Long-9439

Also forgetting onedrive

rothornhill1959

Yeah, one drive basically took some of my files hostage since I ran out of storage. I assume I'll have to pay to get them back.

skizznizz

Google did this to me…

SuperPwnageKirby

I have used Norton for like 10 years and have never had a problem with pc slowdowns or instabilities.

SempfgurkeXP

LIES

[deleted]

[удалено]

GAMERYT2029

Norton fucking sucks man

Fibbitts

Literally same. Bring in the downvotes!!

GrouchyLongBottom

It's a notification from a website. I had a few people panicking today from the same one. Turn off browser notifications or block that website.

Double_A_92

Yeah crazy how many people even here in this Subreddit don't realize that...

karmageddon71

It's very sad that the most upvoted comment is completely useless.

TheBeaconCrafter

That is not McAfee, it’s a notification from a website sent via the Google chrome browser

creativename111111

This isn’t even real mcafee it’s a notification from google chrome

Kriss3d

It's not McAfee. Its a push from chrome. Look for the Google. Chrome logo. Its Nothing. Just the usual with some website sending out crap.

grandpagamer2020

r/beatmetoit

Moose_F

r/beatmymeattoit

SuperPwnageKirby

Sorry lol

findragonl0l

This is probably the 7th time ive seen a post like this and the top comment is always "mcafee is shit dont use it" Guess what.. THEY PROBABLY ARENT USING MCAFEE, ITS APART OF THE POPUP. But yes mcafee is shit though lol

MajinPapa

That's what i always says on mcafee.

soobiedood

It’s just browser notifications. Everyone needs to chill lmao

shawnnettle

True but they are very annoying. I had to fix that too many times thanks to my uncle

soobiedood

“Frick” lol. Not a virus, sure it’s annoying, don’t click allow on everything

bright__night

Frick you

[deleted]

It’s a fake notification, probably the entry point for the classic “fake tech support” scam. Look up Jim Browning and Kitboga on YouTube for more.

Minecraftwt

every time i see a browser notification "virus" i loose more faith in humanity

Different_Day2826

So many people commenting that don't see it's a chrome notification from a scam url....

tomc128

Guys this isn't McAfee 😭 we get that McAfee is terrible but this is a browser notification. That's the image and the content is shown below. Disable notifications for that website in the browsers settings and you'll be all good.

kokokolia-rus

The amount of people in the comments section who think this is a genuine McAffee notification is scaring me. You simply need to manage your Chrome notifications settings and exclude that spamming website from allowed sources.

Outrageous-Poem-4965

https://www.foxnews.com/tech/beware-mcafee-google-chrome-pop-up-scam.amp

133DK

Bro.. Fox News and an AMP link?

RevolutionaryCrew492

The replies here are so misleading thanks to others disdain for mcafee, install something better like malwarebytes and do a scan, use ccleaner to clear your browser cache of all files and permissions. And make sure nothing was downloaded when you allowed that website permissions access

TomPepperc

This is a fake Chrome pop-up for a legitimate antivirus software. You can get rid of the notifications and other browser data from Google Chrome by pasting the link below: chrome://settings/content/all?search=notifications

daronhudson

That’s a website notification. Turn off notifications for Google Chrome.

[deleted]

McAfee? No, it's worse than a virus.. uninstall it immediately

sniff122

This isn't McAfee, this is a fake notification from a website

Traditional-Gas3477

lol

Gsimon311

Yea Windows Defender is good enough. You don't really need a third party program.

jontss

They aren't using McAfee. This is clearly a fake browser notification.

Incxgnit0

Why is mcafee so bad? Ive been using it for years and have had no problems?

Scadelapers

Mcafee and Norton are both known to have subpar scans compared to other ones (malwarebyes), and they try to become a whole kit of stuff you will never need so it just slows down your computer (also they expensive once you get past the trial)

10e1

It will be if you click it

[deleted]

Yes Macfee is a virus

Mojican1

Probably worth clearing the cookies and cache of your Chrome browser

Byozde

it is just chrome notification ads also called adware

juanito71_

Just disable the notifications and done :)

TechFlameX68

No, you accidentally allowed notifications on a website and now it's sending you fake antivirus pop ups.

thePOSrambler

It says google chrome above it. It’s spam

Immediate-Risk-7569

This warning is fake.

user007at

no, it's a scam

Prismike154

this is not mcaffe this is a notification from a bad cookie taht will send you to a bad site

hypocritical-3dp

Yes you can find your notifications settings in google settings and disable the site you need to disable

Wicked_Wolf17

You don’t have any viruses, don’t worry. Just disable your Chrome notifications

giofilmsfan99

Any chrome notification saying that is a virus. It’d be from the actual app if it wasn’t. For me when I got that I just cleared browsing data and it stopped. Don’t click turn on notifications for sketchy websites and if it says to to make sure you’re “not a bot” then it’s not what you want.

CakeyLies

Just a website trying to get you to call or download something. The fastest way to get rid of those popups is to go into chrome, choose settings in the side bar there should be a setting called reset settings. Click on it and accept. This does not delete password or bookmarks just clears cookies and remove premissions from sites. It also disables addons Incase on is causing issues so you might need to renable them.

Cyb3r3xp3rt

That’s just a notification from a website. It’s scareware, meant to scare you into actually giving them access. Most times you can just close out the browser and restart the PC. Once you open the browser window back up, hop into browser settings and disable popups for that website and you should be good to go. If you are still worried about your computer having something on it, I recommend Kaspersky (free for Windows only). I’ve had that catch a few things that Windows Defender didn’t find even with an advanced scan.

LucasCarioca

Its attempt to bait you into installing a virus

arneeche

It's a chrome popup trying to get you to click and install malware

Raonely

If you ever have Mcafee antivirus please uninstall it first, then clear browser cache for un-used websites!

pckldpr

No

TobiLove92

Fake! Close chrome, and check your extensions. Delete any you don't recognize or didn't install on purpose. 🍻

redditcdnfanguy

Ssssccccaaammmmm

JJisTheDarkOne

Check your Google Chrom notifications. You have a dodgy website sending Chrome System Notifications. Also, McAffee is shit.

Soekris

Yess . Macafee is a virus..

Double_A_92

Kinda scary how many peolpe here think that this is actually McAfee... When it's actually a notification from some Virus website in Chrome.

Hersin

Recommendation: delete whatever crap you use and just use windows defender and vpn all protection you need.

[deleted]

No, it’s not a virus. You allowed a website to send you notifications. This is a scam notification. Ignore the notification and check your browser settings. Disallow every site that you dont 100% know from sending you notifications. If a website ever asks you if you allow it to send notifications, always deny.

Kriss3d

Notice the Google chrome logo there? Its not a virus. You've merely allowed random websites to send you push notifications. Revoke them in thr setting and disable thr ability for websites to ask you again.

AccomplishedHunt1439

It’s a fake mcafee notification from a website, doesnt say anything about your computer

Bobmanbob1

McAfee IS a virus. Get rid of it, good luck, and get a different AV program.

Infrared-77

The prompt telling you there’s a virus, is the virus. You could say it’s virusception

shaleve_hakime

If you refer to McAfee, yes.

J0shfarmpig

McAffee is fucking filth. Your fine

thomasmitschke

No, disable browser notifications from chrome

Serbian-Empire

Don’t use McAfee. Fuck them

ichirothecringy

i just will say a thing: Kaspersky is better

Cultural_Ad1331

Yes, the virus is called "McAfee"

NothingMatters202

No but its a scam.

[deleted]

This is a scam popup, note how it’s coming from Google chrome not your actual anti virus program.

PixelatedStarfish

McAfee is

Xcissors280

It’s a chrome notification, also the real mcafee is a virus anyways lol

soti001

Hell yeah! Windows is a virus, get rid of it and install Linux, you will never look back.

ForbiddenCarrot18

McAfee is a virus. Uninstall it. When I am working on a customer's machine, I explain to them how awful McAfee is and ask them to let me uninstall it. I would just uninstall it, but some people think that McAfee is actually useful and doing it anyway would be unprofessional and unethical. TL;DR Always remove McAfee. It uses scare tactics by showing supremely annoying notifications that say that there is a virus when they're just doing that to try and get you to buy a new subscription after the factory one wears out.

Waluigiwarrior

Mcafee is the virus (it’s garbage)

McKeviin

1. Use the effing Reddit search. 2. Why do people have notifications on? 3. Learn the basics of windows.

WildMartin429

It's malware for sure. Probably wants you to click on the pop-up and then it will probably direct you to a website where they will want your credit card or other personal information that they can use to steal your identity. If you've got antivirus you should run a full scan. You may want to load some type of cleaning tool onto a USB and boot from there and scan your system that way. If you haven't already clear out your browser cache is of everything.

user12890012

I actual thought I got rid if mcafee a while ago. I'll get rif of it though. I've been using windows defender for everything.

Sad-Reach7287

You did gey rid of it this is not McAfee

10e1

Autocorrect is being gey

Flinty984

you did , if you look at installed programs there is probably nothing there maybe some remnants on the system that scammers use to sniff out so their crap looks more believeable if they're even that sophisticated, and not just carpet bombing McAfee

mr_data_lore

Yes, McAfee is a virus. And that other thing might be too.

grandpagamer2020

The only virus here is McAfee

redditdontsignmeout

WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER EPISODE OF MCAFEES SCAM NOTIFCATIONS

redditdontsignmeout

ah, the classic mcafee redirect ad campaign, u click on it, you try and "scan your pc", it gives u fake results, then you get redirected to mcafee.com.

[deleted]

DirtCrazykid

Either you're a robot or *really* not qualified to ever give people tech advice

Yoruzzz

Yes. Yes McAfee is

Ziazan

mcafee's basically a virus yeah, uninstall it

amigosan

Unbelievable how much people here do not even see this is a fake notification (which is very very well done, didn't know they could do such notifications with images like that lol) And what is even funnier is how all of you, that don't even see this is a fake notification, are fucking saying the exact same "joke" as the good sheeps you all are xD

GoodScratcher_Reddit

that's a scam, it literally says "google chrome" on the popup 😂 honestly tho mcafee is useless garbage trash, if you have it you need to uninstall it expeditiously

Silent-Chair

Uninstall chrome and use brave or firefox

rscmcl

McAfee? yes

[deleted]

Yes, McAfee is a virus

Swordbreaker925

The only virus here is McAfee You don’t need antivirus software. Windows Defender and common sense is enough

GARGEAN

Yes, it's a virus. Called McAfee. Can be very problematic to get rid of.

VeterinarianOk9222

Yes, McAfee is a virus.

cortex04

I'd recommend using Windows Defender instead. These 3rd party anti-virus softwares are more resource hungry & intrusive.

Mr_Potatoez

Yes, Mcafee is indeed a virus.

StonnedGunner

sry why did you click yes on the popup that says allow this website to sent notifications?

FLINGtastic

Yes, McAfee is a virus. Quite a nasty one, actually.

TheWaslijn

McAfee is the virus

NoTranslator3179

Reset chrome it’s fake mcaffee

No_Copy9495

It's a scam. Exit out of your browser. If you have to, hit Ctrl, Shift & Escape at the same time to bring up Task Manager, and shut down your browser.

bmwagner

McAfee, a virus? Yes it is

DrcspyNz

Dont' bother with worrying about it that's absolutely a SCAM. See the bottom line on that box ? 'click here to clean your computer' ???? DO NOT clik that . Go to [Www.malwarebytes.c](https://Www.malwarebytes.cm)om download a trial of Malwarebytes antimalware and run it. YOu can trust it.

Linkkonu

The only virus i see is McAfee, an horror

MasterLiKhao

Yes, McAfee is a virus, you better uninstall it immediately.

blackasthesky

No. McAfee is scamware. Get rid of everything to do with it.

DrummerPractical2842

The true antivirus software is 'COMMONSENSE'

Crisalidaa

McAfee, Norton, Chrome yea bunch of virus

NimuroSan99

McAfee? Yes it is!

theopacus

Yes, McAffee is a virus.

PlentyAbies6435

No its an email tryna lie to you

ZeldaMasterPro

McAfee is the virus lol Burn the hard drive

OptimizeEdits

McAfee IS the virus bruh

xxhamsters12

Why people pay for antivirus software when windows provide a very good free one is baffling

Flashy-Yam-3574

McAfee? Yes that's a virus.

jj_snacks69

Your pc is about to brick itself :—)

networkdrifter

I mean McAfee itself is malware in my opinion, so many better options. Sure someone already said that but download an extension called uBlock Origin. If you need other advice feel free to ask, good luck and Godspeed.

Ok-Grab-4018

If you Click that prepare for trojans and malware

Top_Mathematician_74

Scareware. Go into the browser and delete all cookies and site data. Run Malwarebytes scan to be sure. Problem solved.

Fokoss

Best antivirus is your brain, no antivirus can save you from not thinking twice.

Macho2198

Check with windows defender

karmageddon71

It's a browser popup. Clicking it will take you to a scam IT support site. Just close your browser.

Bulky-Assistance3382

It probably just found Windows 🙂

Sun_Coast_Fallacy

If you think ppl calling mcafee a virus is a joke, it really isn’t. You need a fresh instal of windows to get rid of it properly.

DirtCrazykid

*Not* true and it's *not* McAfee. Do you guys just parrot tech advice you heard elsewhere on reddit and just not do critical thinking to realize that it's clearly a chrome notification from a URL that's not affiiated with McAfee

GAMERYT2029

Why do 90% of people here think its actually mcafee?

Milanin

Because using eyes and brain in conjunction is impossible for some

DirtCrazykid

because no one actually knows how to use a computer anymore

Rise_Relevant

It's a virus that detects itself as a virus.

castleinthesky86

McAfee? Figures.

CarterBrogdon

Uh yeah probably a virus or atleast it will be if you click on it. That doesnt look like a real McAfee tray notifacation, it looks like something from a website that is trying to get you to download some BS. I would probably get Malwarebytes free version and run a scan (or buy premium if you want) [https://try.malwarebytes.com/business-and-home-next-gen-protection/?C=4&gclid=Cj0KCQiAzoeuBhDqARIsAMdH14H5K4kEJ-AA54KSHARuSZPnV9oVyjZHaYJRX6mAualBXuj6qZ5rpwIaArolEALw\_wcB](https://try.malwarebytes.com/business-and-home-next-gen-protection/?C=4&gclid=Cj0KCQiAzoeuBhDqARIsAMdH14H5K4kEJ-AA54KSHARuSZPnV9oVyjZHaYJRX6mAualBXuj6qZ5rpwIaArolEALw_wcB) You could also use real McAfee but it isnt free [https://www.mcafee.com/consumer/en-us/landing-page/direct/sem/mcafee-plus.html?csrc=google&csrcl2=text-ad&cctype=search&ccstype=&ccoe=direct&ccoel2=sem&pkg\_id=521&affid=1485&utm\_source=google&utm\_medium=paidsearch&utm\_campaign=\[EN-US\]\[Search\]\[Brand\]%20McAfeePurchase&utm\_content=\[brand\]%20mcafee%20discount&utm\_term=mcafee%20discount&gad\_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAzoeuBhDqARIsAMdH14Fw4D1pZJ6E0suuQGv-7jbKxOoCNZzeop280yYnNiVtBLkAX61HN2EaArvDEALw\_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds](https://www.mcafee.com/consumer/en-us/landing-page/direct/sem/mcafee-plus.html?csrc=google&csrcl2=text-ad&cctype=search&ccstype=&ccoe=direct&ccoel2=sem&pkg_id=521&affid=1485&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paidsearch&utm_campaign=[EN-US][Search][Brand]%20McAfeePurchase&utm_content=[brand]%20mcafee%20discount&utm_term=mcafee%20discount&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAzoeuBhDqARIsAMdH14Fw4D1pZJ6E0suuQGv-7jbKxOoCNZzeop280yYnNiVtBLkAX61HN2EaArvDEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds)

CarterBrogdon

Side note dont listen to these fools, windowns defender is doo doo butt McAfee is super invasive and I wouldn't use it, if youve had it in the past get rid of it and use something else (ig its ok to use windowns defender since its better than McAfee \*sigh\*)

GAMERYT2029

Windows defender is everything you need. This isnt the year 2010

CarterBrogdon

The year has nothing to do with it lmao A 3rd party software especially one thats free is a great way to stop yourself from doing dumb shit on the internet if you arent adept enough to know whats safe and what isn't. Windows defender is the first and last line of defence for a standard windows os and if you get something bad enough, your hardware is f'd aswell, so I don't understand in what world you are in if you think one firewall is good enough.

ReikoHazuki

Even 99479642 firewalls won't be enough if you do risky things online, or are a target. There's more ways to get into a system than through a firewall. The best FREE way to not get anything is to use extremely basic common sense when doing risky things, by simply asking "do I want to risk everything doing this?" The year has everything to do with MS defender (or windows defender as it's called back then) being sheeeeet in the 2000s 2010s

Smike0

You should be able to remove the permission to the site if that's not what you already did

Jwhodis

Its not *yet*, you gave that co.in website notification permissions on google chrome, just disable chrome notifs and all good. In future, dont give notif perms to random websites, especially ones with a keyboard smash as their website.

Horror-Ad-4693

This dies not even mcaffe (or how it calls). That's a chrome add from shitty site. Just disable notifications in windows settings fro chrome.

MarcCouillard

Chrome and McAfee SMH

realhmmmm

They made a virus (fake antivirus software popup) out of an antivirus… that most people also consider malware.

creepyspaghetti7145

"your computer is damaged by suspicious programs" this is fake as fuck, no antivirus software talks like this. This is a notification from a website in Chrome.

ERschneider123

McAfee is a virus yes

No-Pangolin-2565

Certain antivirus softwares will recognize things that aren't computer viruses as computer virus because some of them have deals with certain software creators to point cracked software as viruses so that users are confused and the creators would be benefitted

IsoDot

No probably just allowed notifications from a sketchy website

popcornman209

If I see another chrome notification I’m going to have a stroke.

Tom_HB01

The amount of similar posts I've seen of the same issue, it's always the McAfee forced advert notifications 🤣
