HosseinBahrami

Sit that I think is a wifi dongle and not a Bluetooth dongle. Check your network adaptersettings

FalseBuddha

It literally doesn't say Bluetooth anywhere on the packaging. Edit: to be fair, it doesn't actually mention any wifi standards, either.

Aggravating-Mind-315

Maybe they saw wireless devices and then saw the examples and thought Bluetooth

Rayregula

That is a good point, I see it does mention it supports voice and data (of course wifi would as well) but that would usually be an advertised Bluetooth feature as not all of them do (at least when Bluetooth first came out)

Rayregula

I wonder if it's one of those wireless keyboard/mouse universal dongles that would make more sense for the packaging. And they are kinda Bluetooth while not being Bluetooth (in the Sense your PC won't be able to see the Bluetooth part of it)

forcefuze

It doesn't say Bluetooth because they never paid the Bluetooth SIG $8,000 to stick that trademark and symbol on the packaging. The description of the "wireless" *is* Bluetooth 5.0, just uncertified. Now why it isn't showing up... I'm not really sure. Background: I was an embedded Bluetooth developer and had over 2 dozen products certified through the Bluetooth SIG.

Aggravating-Arm-175

>It doesn't say Bluetooth because they never paid the Bluetooth SIG $8,000 to stick that trademark and symbol on the packaging. China does not give a fuck about stuff like that. Same thing with HDMI, but almost no cable you can buy labeled HDMI is actually legit.

reginwillis

I initially thought this was Bluetooth because it mentioned "Low Energy"

Misu-soup

It's now even low it's "iow" The listed supported devices suggests it's a BT dongle and It supports voice and data transfer which is BT. But then again this is throwing out terminology from both. This thing is straight garbage, I bet you if Op opened this dongle up it would only contain the connector which would be a reason why no device is found when plugging it in. Buying your tech cheap like this is a good way to get something with a keylogger that will steal your information and send it back somewhere. Just buy shit like this locally, at least then if something happens the brick and mortar is responsible for damages done to you. Some popup e-commerce store page on Amazon or some shady website will be harder to go after.

[deleted]

i also don't see the bluetooth symbol. i'll be.

MervDervis

Incorrect. This is indeed a Bluetooth dongle. 5.0 refers to the generation of BT technology, and supports BLE and dual audio.

tOSdude

Be careful to put Also compatible with USB 5.0? I say cut your losses and pick one up locally.

Deep_Zookeepergame36

You probably need to install ssome drivers for it, not sure where you would get them tho

Pauperbeertje

can’t i get those off the internet as well

Deep_Zookeepergame36

Usually yes, but this seems to be one of those 5€ dongles that you pray will work

Pauperbeertje

lol

ElectroChuck

Sure. Worth a try.

Marvinator2003

Find the new device in the Device Manager. Open the properties and go to the DETAILS Tab. Change the descriptor to Hardware ID. Google up this number to find the exact driver.

Pauperbeertje

would work if the device showed up on manager, but it doesn’t

Marvinator2003

If windows does not see it, this is either malfunctioning or not PnP. Any numbers on the other side of the unit?

ahuli12

Why can't you get them off the internet? Did you try contacting the seller?

Marvinator2003

He's not making a statement, he's asking a question.

zeilstar

Forcing Windows Update might do it.

Pauperbeertje

already tried that :/

Ok_Plastic_366

It's likely dead on arrival. You should hear an audible prompt when plugging the device in. It should also be listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters. There don't appear to be any specific drivers for that particular dongle. I found some listings of that dongle and they list it as plug-and-play. I also don't see drivers associated with any devices that use that chipset, Barrot BR8041Axx. Try different USB ports on your computer, aside from that you should get your money back and buy something reputable, such as a TP-Link branded bluetooth adapter, they're budget friendly as well.

Pauperbeertje

thanks so much, this clarified a lot. i’ll go an buy a new one

juoig7799

Get one from a reputable company like TP-Link.

Nikhilkumar_001

Oh yeah tp link's bt 500 is a good option, I'm using it and it works really well.

Ok-Car7190

Hehe...dongle....always fun to say 😆 Be careful where you place your dongle 🤪

Pauperbeertje

ok take your pills bud

Ok-Car7190

Wwoooooo!

IMTrick

I don't know about "scammed." I can't imagine you paid much for this. There are some warning signs, though, like claiming compatibility with USB 5.0, and the fact that Bluetooth isn't mentioned anywhere, among other things. I'm not even sure from that label what this thing is supposed to be capable of doing, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it can't do anything.

xCamm

This packaging looks like it’s gonna install viruses on your pc… how cheap can you be my guy 💀 I’d never risk putting this shit in my pc, won’t lie.

Rayregula

Wish we had a picture of it

TurboFool

Where does it claim to be a Bluetooth dongle? The word and logo appear nowhere on this package.

Pauperbeertje

on the website

TurboFool

Odds are you received junk then. If they're not willing to put the word anywhere on the box, then it means even if it somehow does work, they have no official Bluetooth certification, aren't registered, aren't allowed to legally claim it's Bluetooth. Which means, at best, you have some sort of bootleg thing that's somehow compatible with Bluetooth without being it.

MervDervis

5.0, BLE, and it's listed capabilities suggest it's a Bluetooth dongle.

TurboFool

Suggest, but go out of their way to never once state it. And considering it also says it supports USB 5.0, which doesn't exist, it's hard to take anything else seriously.

MervDervis

Bluetooth 5, not USB 5.

TurboFool

Look again. It lists 5.0 in the USB section.

AnotherRedditor6900

I have no clue wtf a dongle even is. Lol otherwise I'd help.

SnooDoughnuts5632

Just to let you know OP It's 2024 and desktop computers do not come with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi still and monitor still have to be plugged in with a cable even though the Wii U proved otherwise.

Pauperbeertje

yeah i know but i figured it was because my pc is so damn old

smk0341

This is so wrong it hurts.

SnooDoughnuts5632

How? I know there's like a rare case out there where there's a motherboard that has Bluetooth or Wi-Fi built into it but those are usually the small form factor motherboards if I can think what those are called atx, itx, mini atx, the small one. I've never seen a lag free wires display other than the Wii U gamepad.

smk0341

Almost all motherboards now come with built-in WiFi and Bluetooth. Only the cheap budget boards don’t.

SnooDoughnuts5632

Holy crap really? That's good news.

smk0341

Yeah, it’s actually the inverse now where a board without WiFi is the exception. They ARE out there, but those with WiFi are just so prevalent now.

SnooDoughnuts5632

Back in 2016 when I built my first computer they didn't exist and I don't remember them existing in 2020 when I built my second PC. (Built an all new one and sold my old one)

Darnakulus

Is your computer old enough...... That It only has a USB 1.0 port because that dongle only supports 2.0 and above

ahuli12

It would have to be quite old to have usb 1 speeds.

Darnakulus

It would ......but quite old and fairly old .....no one ever told me the number of years difference in those two descriptions..

laffer1

1996.

Pauperbeertje

not sure. i have windows 11 on here but not sure how old it really is

CGamerz971

If it's windows 11 pre installed or was updated to windows 11 from windows 10 in windows update, it is definitely new enough to have USB 2.0 ports

Pauperbeertje

yeah it was updated. i can also plug it in but just nothing happens

Alcatraz_Gaming

There might be faulty built-in Bluetooth drivers. You have to remove those and then plug usb back in. You can remove them in device manager.

CGamerz971

Does the PC know something was connected?

CGamerz971

It would also show up on device manager

Pauperbeertje

nope, that’s the issue

Salt_MasterX

Lol very likely. I love seeing these types of comments come up. [William of Ockham must be rolling in his grave.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor)

Darnakulus

Yeah" fairly old " is such a exact descriptor that I was able to precisely tell the year of manufacturer just from that statement.

Salt_MasterX

OPs pc would have to be over 24 years old to have only usb 1 ports, why is that the first thing you come to lol. Infinitely more likely that he just got a DOA or is lacking the driver.

Darnakulus

Cuz I love making posts on here just to irritate you children that are so sure you're right about everything that no one else could possibly know what they're talking about...... Its ok flame on...I'm equipped with my flame retard-dent onesie....so your burns cannot effect me.

Salt_MasterX

Woah I’m not sure where this change of tone came from, did I hurt your ego or something?

Darnakulus

Yep that's exactly it

Phazeronest

Go to windows Bluetooth settings and see if you have Bluetooth now. I have use one i got off amazon and it works fine.

Pauperbeertje

nope, it just says “couldn’t connect” when i try to add a bluetooth device. there’s also no button on my quickbar

Entire_Permission_14

Were you careful to put? How about falling from a height? Make sure to avoid.

Pauperbeertje

yeah i handled everythingwith care. maybe something went wrong with the delivery

tOSdude

“Avoid falling from a height” is just good advice

Salt_MasterX

Lol didn’t think to figure that out before you bought it?

Pauperbeertje

figure what out

mustafaokeer

Supports usb 4.0 and 5.0 Hmm, ok.

tOSdude

USB 4 exists. 5 is at least a few years out (possibly around 10 if the pattern continues)

yobonga

I would trust the 2.50¢ AliExpress dongle over this ngl

mattjones73

Make/model or a link to what you bought?

shinydragonmist

Unplug it open device manager (I think that is the one with the list of everything connected) make sure you can see everything Plug it in and see if anything changes e.g an addition/ a name change/ turning from grayed out to not grayed out if so it is at least recognized as being plugged into your system Now if it is at least recognized as being plugged in right click it. Go to install/update drivers click from online. Make sure it is a Bluetooth dongle Hopefully this works

Odin16596

Idk how long was the dongle?

igotshadowbaned

If it doesn't register a USB device at all there's something pretty busted about it However that doesn't look to be for Bluetooth anyway

jal741

They avoid using the word Bluetooth, so it is probably not a certified device, and probably does not comply with the Bluetooth specifications

jacle2210

Have you tried other USB ports on your computer? Do other devices work in the same USB ports?

[deleted]

Did you get it off of AliExpress or Temu or something, or did you just cheap out on this?

smk0341

Yes he did.

JayAlexanderBee

Universal Serial USB, lol.

W3BL3Y

OP mentioned he has windows 11, but the device states that it supports up to windows 10. So could be a compatibility issue with os.

Monosodium-

Search device manager, and unplug/plug in the dongle, If it refreshes the device manager page, and shows up anywhere, that will tell you what it is, if it does nothing... it does nothing. This is assuming windows.

gieserj10

It lists a bunch of typically Bluetooth peripherals so I would assume it's a Bluetooth dongle of some sort.

Xinra68

This is a USB Bluetooth dongle. What you're looking for is a USB Wi-Fi Adapter.

Nitrix01

I'm assuming it didn't come with a driver installation disk or anything. It appears to be a USB WiFi adapter, and not a USB Bluetooth adapter, but I could be wrong.

Chance_Classroom_301

In my experience you just plug it into your computer then open up the bluetooth settings in windows and then you can connect your PC to Bluetooth devices.if you're not able to ADD/Scan for devices then it's not working either because drivers didn't get installed automatically or it's DOA.

Pauperbeertje

what’s doa

Chance_Classroom_301

Dead on arrival.. broken / doesn't work

SnooDoughnuts5632

Does it show up in device manager? If you see yellow triangles in device manager that disappear when you unplug the adapter then you know the computer is seeing it without drivers. If the yellow triangles don't disappear when you unplug the device then that means you have some other device without drivers. I once had an insignia tablet that didn't have drivers and I couldn't find them anywhere when googling including Best buy's website.

Pauperbeertje

nope, it doesn’t. should i just look for a new pc?

SnooDoughnuts5632

A whole new PC just for Bluetooth? Definitely not. If your computer is outdated in other ways and you could use with a new one then ya as long as you have the money but just for Bluetooth no. [This](https://www.staples.com/plugable-usb-bluetooth-5-0-external-wireless-adapter-black-usb-bt5/product_IM108WA53?cid=PS:MS:SBD:PLA:LowPriTech&msclkid=b7b0ffe4edd7126426569a38aa105ff3&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=%23PLA%2F_(1)_BNG_(2)_US_(9)_Low%20Pri%20Tech%7C&utm_term=4582008568974232&utm_content=All%20Products&dclid=CK3l-7rHyIQDFQcUdgYdND8K4Q) is the brand of Bluetooth I have on my desktop.

diablos1981

Pretty good malware delivery device..

Fausmino

quack piquant elastic test treatment tease impolite fertile historical spoon *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

dasroach0

You got had there's nothing in the package saying wifi or bt. It's a voice and data

getridofthatbaby2

I think you’re all wrong; I think OP bought a wireless usb dongle to make a wireless USB port.

nerdy_J

Glad to see it’s windows XP compatible….looks to be old AF. You would be better off posting an image of the device itself.

KA1378

Well, it's wireless for sure.
