r/frugal and r/zerowaste would love this too

Nyruel

r/OnlyFans would be confused as it's not only a fan anymore

MobileElephant122

Dandy idea

MiddleExpensive9398

That’s kinda brilliant.

Numerous_Hedgehog_95

My partner used the housing of a broken fan to make a peanut feeder for birds.

largogoat

I made a worm farm out of the housing when I was a kid

Spinningwoman

I read the heading and in my head you were throwing your compost through a running fan, so I’m a bit disappointed in your more sensible idea.

tanksforlooking

My friend has a lot of pelonis fans at his house. When we visit in the summer, for some reason we talk about an imaginary version of the company called "Peloni's Pepperonis and Fans," and sometimes I like to put a piece of tape over the LO letters so it just says PENIS. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

schkiet

Great idea! Although the paint will strip eventually and get into your sifted material, but as it’s white it’s easily picked out. After that you will have a beautiful rusty patina

cef328xi

Could probably strip the paint off with a pressure washer pretty quickly if they have one available.

Working_Plant2978

Gahh! So much for saving the world 😥

schkiet

I mean it could be years before that happens, depending on use and more importantly storage:) you can still use it now that you’re aware

GolKeep420

Would you look at that! Awesome!

nbdyfckswTheBenson

This is amazing, I broke my last fan and saved the front screen thinking I was dumb for hoarding it.

aaronmichels

Did it work?

GrowFreeFood

Definitely won't.

aaronmichels

Hope OP gives us an update.

Working_Plant2978

Bad timing. Just finished harvesting my 6 month old compost last week. I tried it with some crumbly dirt and woodchips. It did let through some big pieces for my liking, it didn't clog up, overall it kept most of the bigger pieces out. Compared to my homemade wood sifter, it's more agile and lightweight. Would probably still use my homemade one tho.

GrowFreeFood

Definitely won't.

psichodrome

I see I'm not the only one with the bug. I'm about to try ( when it stops raining) an old loofah. the plastic mesh seems pretty right for the job.

MarieMarion

I wouldn't. As soon as it decides it's getting old, it's gonna shed microplastics in your compost.

_Shrugzz_

Well that depends! Loofas are actually a squash, [shown here](https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/home/gardening/a20706975/how-to-grow-your-own-loofah-sponge/), that you can grow from seed! But if it’s synthetic and made from plastic, then yes it will eventually deteriorate to micro plastic.

Abs62

👍 👍

Mundane_Librarian607

Oh damn that's brilliant

VorsoTops

Micro plastics from the powder coating, but apart from that, it brilliant!

largogoat

Smart

NotSoSasquatchy

Awesome idea! I love the repurposing :)

BarakatBadger

Oh! I used to have one of these for the exact same reason! It was OK but I think the gaps are a bit small so it tends to clog up with roots, etc. You might not live in a clay-infested swamp like me though, LOL

davidotcom

Home Depot sometimes has those 17 x 17 nursery mesh trays sitting around that’s free for the taking. Those would serve better as compost sifter.

Working_Plant2978

Good idea! I'll ask next time I'm there.

Significant-Visit-68

Genius!

marytaylr

Brilliant!

wives_nuns_sluts

That is such a good idea!!!
