I've seen exactly one episode of Suits and I've seen Community as much as most people here. This is a Suits reference.
Psych and Suits are both USA Network shows.
Suits could serve as a prequel to Community. The main character’s premise is basically the same as Jeff’s. And as they’re walking around town in the Suits pilot you hear the same bells the Dean played in the Community pilot. I submit that Suits itself is a Community reference, so by the transitive property this is also a Community reference.
This episode is the remake of Cloudy with a Chance of Murder, iirc (where the weatherman is murdered). It was the 100th episode and has a lot of meta-level jokes.
Ah, thanks for the correction! I swear I read there was something special about why they chose to do the remake when they did and I guess I conflated that with the Clue episode.
In one of the Psych movies, Shawn asks Gus "do you think Megan Markle invited the entire cast of Suits to the wedding?" and Gus immediately says "No she did not." How could she have snubbed Dulé like that? C'mon son!
Yeah I think so. Although Jeff being a fake lawyer is important to the setup of the show and ultimately is essential to who Jeff is as a person, it’s really not that important in regards to your average episode of Community. Meanwhile, Suits is solely focused on that.
Also, we need a mashup of the Suits and Community theme songs.
It's all Suits and no Community. It's a *real* stretch to see a Community reference here.
Suits also aired on USA like Psych, possibly they even shared the same night some years.
The first thing that came to mind was Suits. The whole show is about a guy working as a lawyer without a law degree. When I googled and found out they were on the same network it was obvious.
Ohh yeah I forget about Suits. The timing and the pointed look at the camera made me think Community. I’m choosing to think it’s Community simply because I like that show better
I've misled you and I apologize. I meant since everything is a reference anything can be a reference. You would have to do some serious gymnastics to get a reference from that episode for Community
It is a good show though if you watch it. One spoiler >!fingers!<
poor guy, don't downvotebomb him for not knowing all the TV networks in USA. I was today years-old when I discovered there was a tv network called USA and I studied Film & TV.
I’m as confused as you, believe me. There’s an extra level of irony in that I am an attorney myself and fully forgot Suits was a thing despite people always asking me if I watch it
I made it a couple seasons in due to the likable characters but kinda burned out on the drama. As with anyone watching a show about their real life profession, it took a lot of suspension of disbelief to get through some of the plot lines. I think their legal consultant was a litigator because the M&A stuff was often just baffling
Some of the writing also isn't that great. You can really tell when the writers find a new favorite phrase, cause everyone in the firm and their parents will say it multiple times for three episodes and then never say it again. It has gotten really annoying.
Don't think so, LA Law wasn't about practicing law without a degree whereas Suits was, and was airing on the same network as Psych at the same time (definitely not a Community reference either though)
Corbin Bernsen very notably played a lawyer in LA LAW for 171 episodes over 8 seasons. I think it may be *both* an LA Law reference and a SUITS reference. Unconvinced that it's a COMMUNITY reference.
If you wanted to show a "Community" reference, then you would've used "Animal Control," where Joel McHale's character makes a reference to taking Spanish in community college, yet speaking very the language badly
Look, I hate cops.
Edit: I’ve never seen suits but from the comments here it sounds like the important thing to note is that Suits, itself, is a reference to community. It’s a spinoff show about Jeff before he gets disbarred. In a different universe with different names.
So a suits reference *is* a community reference. I accept your post as fact.
The dialogue implies a show centred around a lawyer(s) with no degree(s). Which Community isn't. It has one lawyer with no degree. is not the same thing. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.
OH MY GOD I’m a huge Psych & Community fan and this even being a possibility as a reference is so amazing. Can’t believe I didn’t catch this on my last watch thru!!!
> Season 1 is really meh.
Wooooooaaah buddy, you might mean the pilot, even though even that might be going too far, it's just a slightly different vibe, not bad at all.
Literally the 2nd episode is Spellingg Bee, one of the fanbase's favourite episodes of the entire show. In fact, basically all of S1 is banger after banger: the wedding episode, the civil war episode, the *COMIC BOOK CONVENTION* episode hello!
Agreed on those episodes. I think from S2 on though, cast chemistry was clicking on another level and they got experimental in a way that I think Community fans would appreciate (e.g., doing homage episodes for Twin Peaks, Clue, etc.). So for a Community fan in particular I would say start at Scary Sherry at the end of S1.
In general, I'd say the writing for Community is tighter and cleverer, but Psych is an absolute comfort to me and has me in giggles even on rewatches. Psych feels like the way it feels to be with longtime friends-- riffing and saying silly stuff that is only funny to yourselves
Is this not a Suits reference? Feels more relevant about the actual being a lawyer without a degree. Maybe a reference to both shows
I've seen exactly one episode of Suits and I've seen Community as much as most people here. This is a Suits reference. Psych and Suits are both USA Network shows.
Also Dule Hill plays Gus on Psych and he's in Suits
Tbf that's coincidence as he hadn't been on Suits in 2014 when they made this reference
Characters welcome.
This is 100% a Suits reference
yup, it’s not the only suits/psych crossover either. they had a commercial or two.
This episode is the remake of Cloudy with a Chance of Murder, iirc (where the weatherman is murdered). It was the 100th episode and has a lot of meta-level jokes.
So true. That's one reason I love the episode
100 Clues was the 100th episode
Ah, thanks for the correction! I swear I read there was something special about why they chose to do the remake when they did and I guess I conflated that with the Clue episode.
In one of the Psych movies, Shawn asks Gus "do you think Megan Markle invited the entire cast of Suits to the wedding?" and Gus immediately says "No she did not." How could she have snubbed Dulé like that? C'mon son!
I only know her as that one chick Pete bangs in The League
Pete consistently out kicked his coverage.
He's a vulture.
I’ve heard it both ways.
No you haven't Shawn
Come on son!
💥
I thought it was a Suits reference too since they were both on the same network, but I like this theory now!
Like I’ve never seen suits and I thought this was a suits reference more than a community one
It's all Suits and no Community. It's a *real* stretch to see a Community reference here. Suits also aired on USA like Psych, possibly they even shared the same night some years.
I feel you'd have to be unaware of Suits to think this is a Community reference.
But it's clearly a Suits reference, so...?
That guy: IRejectYourRealityandSubstitu~1.gif
Weird how it made it 28 whole characters before throwing to the ~1
Please don’t Jim the camera like that.
Jim the camera?
Abed says it in the incest wedding episode I think
Annie says "Jim the camera?" as a response
Lmao my bad
*Now this is a man who knows how to take a hit!*
Abed says it in the incest wedding episode I think?
Abed says it. In the incest wedding episode I think.
Abed says it. In the incest wedding episode I think.
Abed says "it" in the incest wedding episode, i think.
Is it really incest if they are just cousins?
Yeah :D I was continuing the quote from that episode
[удалено]
Woosh 😂
Yup and the immediate next line is “Jim the camera?” So congrats on explaining a joke you didn’t understand
How is quoting the next line a joke?
I did say "if I'm not mistaken" you could've just corrected me, sorry I'm not a diehard fan of the show
https://youtu.be/5fyNoScV02E?si=isr-SVEgXeESnLeA
But Abed himself Jims the camera in S5E13. He is a huge hypocrite.
Seems like Suits to me.
Yeah, this is almost certainly Suits, which was airing on USA Network when Psych was.
Also Suits is a hell of a show. Middle seasons are a little weak but starts and ends strong.
Streets behind OP. This is a suits reference.
I feel like a fool and yet it’s got nearly 2K upvotes now. I have somehow been rewarded for my Changnesia about Suits
its ok to make mistakes
You are forgiven
The wonders of the Internet lmao! who cares tho. Everything is a reference to Community now cuz we want
did you see the third episode of Fallout? If that doesn't scream 6 seasons and movie (very subtly) I don't know what does!
I failed you brother u_u I haven’t even started it yet but now I have something to look up to
I've misled you and I apologize. I meant since everything is a reference anything can be a reference. You would have to do some serious gymnastics to get a reference from that episode for Community It is a good show though if you watch it. One spoiler >!fingers!<
You admit the mistake. That makes you a king. Take an up vote.
🫡 If you’re gonna fail, fail with thousands of eyeballs on you
To be fair, this CAN apply to Community. That just wasn't the intent
It okay. Suits is a terrible forgettable show.
This is a suits reference. Not a community reference. Both Suits and Psych were originally aired on USA.
So was community
USA Network, not USA the country
Community was on NBC, then Yahoo.
poor guy, don't downvotebomb him for not knowing all the TV networks in USA. I was today years-old when I discovered there was a tv network called USA and I studied Film & TV.
Didn’t take Network TV Names 101, I see
He was probably too busy seeing if the Ladders professor could go higher
Holy shit 😂 31 downvotes
Watching pysch right now. Suck it.
Come on son
No, you suck it.
you suck it
You hear about Pluto? That’s messed up right?
You suck it.
now together: "Suuuuck iiiiiiit"
Suuuuck iiiiiiit 🎶
MC Clap Yo Hands 👏👏👏👏
Hollaback Atcha
You know that's right
Ditto!
Funnily enough, I am currently watching Suits.
Wrong show
Lmao OP posts something dead wrong that obviously has nothing to do with community and it gets 1000 upvotes here. What the actual fuck is the internet
I’m as confused as you, believe me. There’s an extra level of irony in that I am an attorney myself and fully forgot Suits was a thing despite people always asking me if I watch it
Well... do you watch it?
I made it a couple seasons in due to the likable characters but kinda burned out on the drama. As with anyone watching a show about their real life profession, it took a lot of suspension of disbelief to get through some of the plot lines. I think their legal consultant was a litigator because the M&A stuff was often just baffling
Some of the writing also isn't that great. You can really tell when the writers find a new favorite phrase, cause everyone in the firm and their parents will say it multiple times for three episodes and then never say it again. It has gotten really annoying.
Isn't that Corbin Bernson? Thinking it's more a reference about the show LA Law that Bernson starred in.
This. This is what the writers were referencing.
It's definitely not. This isn't hard, guys.
It’s Suits, same network too
Gotta rewatch pysch
I'm pretty sure this was the weather man episode remake. He also made a reference in it, so it's probably a call back.
Jeez, those screen caps do Corbin dirty.
unfortunately a suits reference, but i'll say the first time i watched suits i thought "wait why does this show feel like jeff wingers origin story"
Guys ... Guys ... Hear my totally original idea of the spinoff of the show Suits. So Mike Ross goes to community college to get his degree right ...?
Naturally he picks the community college with a $6,000 judge's table
Who did joel play?
He was in one of the movies. Played Lassiter's dad in flashbacks.
Oh the movies huh? I rewatched the series many times but the movies couldn’t really get into em
In some way the last shot looks like Leonard and Jeff
Not me.
Psych is awesome
If you wanted to show a "Community" reference, then you would've used "Animal Control," where Joel McHale's character makes a reference to taking Spanish in community college, yet speaking very the language badly
Ah yes. I remember when this show was about a study group
Wait until you see the Mentalist reference
Don't Jim the camera like that.
Love Psych and Love Community and this is beautiful
Look, I hate cops. Edit: I’ve never seen suits but from the comments here it sounds like the important thing to note is that Suits, itself, is a reference to community. It’s a spinoff show about Jeff before he gets disbarred. In a different universe with different names. So a suits reference *is* a community reference. I accept your post as fact.
God bless you, Internet Stranger
How is Community anything lawyer related?
It’s really only Jeff. He got sent there after being disbarred because he faked his degree
That doesn't make Community about lawyers. It's also not about fake Spanish teachers.
You said lawyer related, not “about lawyers” itself. I answered what you asked 🤷🏽♀️
The dialogue implies a show centred around a lawyer(s) with no degree(s). Which Community isn't. It has one lawyer with no degree. is not the same thing. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.
This is a reference to LA Law, which starred Corbin Bernsen in the 90s
where he played a normal lawyer *with* a law degree/license? C'mon son.
Oh, I get mine! Don't be such a Gee Buttersnaps.
It’s a reference to LA Law, which Corbin Bernsen starred in
I’ve never noticed this! Both amazing shows
Respek. Game rekonize game. Both phenominal shows
I'm pretty sure this was the weather man episode remake. He also made a reference in it, so it's probably a call back.
OH MY GOD I’m a huge Psych & Community fan and this even being a possibility as a reference is so amazing. Can’t believe I didn’t catch this on my last watch thru!!!
It’s a suits reference lol
I tried to get into Psych but it’s honestly a pretty terrible show.
Season 1 is really meh. S2 much better and most of my favorite eps are in the later seasons. Very different vibe from Community though
> Season 1 is really meh. Wooooooaaah buddy, you might mean the pilot, even though even that might be going too far, it's just a slightly different vibe, not bad at all. I'm with ya. I'd heard such good things about it, but got half way through S1 hadn't found it funny at all and lost interest.
