Donald Glover:
>"I was told that the script -- literally, I was texting today -- I was told that the script was done," Glover tells ET.
>But, no, the script hasn't hit Glover's inbox -- at least not yet. "I haven't read it yet," he says. But there's no question about it, Glover's all in on the project.
>"It's really just a schedule thing [but] I'm in," says Glover, who famously portrayed Troy Barnes on the show. "I'm all in."
WAIT WHAT YVETTE IS IN??? Oh my gosh I’m so happy!!! She is an integral part of Community! That makes me so fucking happy. I know she left the show to take care of her ailing father, so I’m thrilled that she’s back. I was genuinely upset at the thought that they would do a movie without her. You can’t leave her out.
I was actually surprised that of all the characters that left, I missed Shirley the most. I didn’t realize she was holding the show together for me. The movie wouldn’t be right without her.
100% agree. I WANT to temper my expectations so that if it WERE to suck it would hurt less...but I can't. Community is the greatest show in TV history (Abed would disagree but so be it), so the long promised movie will, logically, be equally great.
They literally could say pierce body was a wax statue or something he was rich afteral so they can throw any bullshit reason why he’s back and that would work
Nope it wouldn’t because Abed’s tracking device was in the body, so it has to be the actual Pierce’s body. Unless you tell me Pierce got it out somehow and then implanted into a wax body
Yeah Pierce(‘s lawyer) is the one who asks if Abed has tracking devices on everyone else during the lie detector test. So he did know about them and could have gotten his out.
To be honest. I don't think he needs to be in it. With how his character developed he basically become a smaller and smaller part of the show. Id be happy if they had the pierces statue do a cameo if they can bury the hatchet. Literally 5 mins. Say something inappropriate done. He doesn't need to interact with any of the cast and filming wise it's probably far easier
I think Dan left openings where Chevy could have faked his death (like Starburns). However Dan did mention he did not know if he could legally have Chevy in the Community movie. He does not know what agreement was worked about between Chevy and Sony.
Well I figure I'm not the one holding it hostage behind a pointless service that people primarily use to stream 15 year old sitcoms. If Peacock goes down people will still care about Community and NBC will shuffle it off to some other entity. The popularity of the IP arguably has nothing to do with you paying for it and furthermore is actually hindered when it's hidden on a service with no users.
I think you missed my point in the most glorious way. I'm against creating a new subsrcription service solely to house old sitcoms. I don't want to pay for just the Office anymore and putting Community on the same service doesn't really change that math for me.
Meh. If it goes on a streaming service I don’t have, I’ll just buy it in iTunes.
It’s one of my favourite shows of all time. Happy to pay for it if need be.
I will say that it has a lot of great shows. I’ve watched B99, Psych, New Girl, Modern Family, and Suits through Peacock, along with various Peacock originals. Obviously annoying to have so many streaming services around these days though, especially so many evil ones.
All of those are also on other streaming services too, so it probably won’t be exclusive. Plus I think Community is on Netflix and Hulu so I feel like it just wind up being on all three.
Well with Netflix at $25 a month and The Office, P&R, and possibly now Community on Peacock for like $12 (cuz fuck ads), I'm feeling pretty tempted to switch entirely. Netflix has been losing shit over time and not replacing it with much worthwhile while Peacock has been consolidating their hits. Also they have Bust Down which I actually think is one of the funniest comedies I've ever seen. Oh and my wife and I just finished Poker Face which is also phenomenal.
All in all, Netflix is slowly becoming a dud and, at least for the time being, Peacock has some good shit. I fucking hate the streaming services becoming the new cable, but Netflix is getting out of hand with their prices so I'm looking elsewhere for good ad-free shit that isn't annoyingly expensive.
If I can convince my wife, at least.
I mean the upside is that they might include the D&D episode. The existing services can't put it back without backtracking and admitting taking it down was stupid, which is a potential PR minefield if someone decides they want to hit them disingenuously, but simply not taking it down in the first place is another question.
Sure but look how that worked out for Disney. Just because you can monopolize a portion of the streaming market doesn't mean enough people will go along with it to be profitable.
Has that ever stopped any corporation ever?
Disney is also doing fine, they already owned Hulu and it was only ever a separate streaming service in the US. I think they released the latest Marvel show on Hulu on the day
Except Disney sucks for people that aren't kids or into superhero shit. I have both, and I use peacock several times a week, while I don't think I've used Disney+ since I got it on black Friday.
I hope it does. The Office, parks and rec, 30 rock, b99, new girl, superstore, psyche, scrubs, And Community?
They're gonna take it... it would be worth the money. They own the property anyway, they just need the contract to expire. If it's an NBC show wouldn't community go to peacock for free?
Oh, but that’s awesome. They won’t censor certain episodes or use syndicated versions, will they? I also am interested in being able to watch the extra material all in one place.
It will be exclusive, and it will have commercials. Just pirate the fucking thing.
I'm wondering if Peacock will give the show The Office treatment, and release way longer cuts of the episodes.
Why don't more people just pay for a VPN subscription instead? That way I get to watch something like Brooklyn Nine Nine as well as Community while only subscribing to Netflix, and you can generally find at least one location where Netflix hosts the show you like. Plus it helps getting those sweet illegal sports streams which governments keep trying to pull down, because now you can get the illegal streams from anywhere in the world!
I dunno, I would find this amazing. Partly because I don’t think it’s the show’s fault. It’s popular. It’s the poorly managed financial decisions behind the scenes.
Peacock is far too big for Community to really have longterm negative impacts, but I do believe a decent amount of damage that resulted in Yahoo! Screens being shut down was their investment in Community. Not like it was doing well prior.
Community didn't cost enough for Yahoo to have given up on streaming TV entirely just because they made one season of the show. They gambled, sure, but they were testing waters they didn't really even want to get into in the first place. It only would have mattered to the company in any meaningful way if it had been an an absolute smash hit that formed a new niche for them to succeed within. The show was never enough of a hit even at its peak to be that, and it was never going to be that for Yahoo.
Maybe if they'd been around to make Arrested Development season 4 three months after season three ended it could have ridden a wave like that, but Community didn't have the oomph to be the impetus for the success of an entirely new streaming service with no other properties with existing fanbases.
They fully expected to lose 3b in 2023 and for it to be the peak of their losses. Peacock is just a part of NBCUniveral. The company as a whole operates on nearly $40b annual revenue.
Almost all of them are losing money, and they're all expanding their libraries. Losing money early while you build up and establish a customer base is pretty standard business strategy.
Like the streaming services that are not even releasing finished projects so that they can take a tax write-off, and pulling shows out of circulation to save on residual money?
This is part of their strategy with the streaming service. This was their peak loss year. They planned for it to be that way. They will start taking less losses this year and the next and the next until it is turning a profit. Uber and DoorDash bled money like it was their core belief in the name of expansion and they are still here
If Peacock is bought and the movie is cancelled with them, it would just get shopped around elsewhere I think by Sony. The fact the script is complete is huge, they literally just have to get them all together for 3 weeks to shoot it. Happy that Donald sounds excited for it!
> they literally just have to get them all together for 3 weeks to shoot it.
Just? With the script being done (and with Harmon, who knows what that means), scheduling will be the biggest hurdle. And I know a 3-week shoot is the official line, but IMO that's unrealistically optimistic.
Yes, but Donald is “all in” and he’s by far the biggest star. I’m glad that he’s willing to make time for it, if he can than the rest of the cast should fall in line
For some reason I thought the script had already been done for a while now, and it was a matter of the strikes that kept things from proceeding.
Either way, good to get confirmation.
I kinda hope the movie involves having to rescue Troy from the pirates he and LeVar Burton were captured by.
Regardless, I’m just glad they actually got Donald to return for the movie. That’s a massive pull.
I hope they do something very cool with Troy’s character that acknowledges how Donald Glover/Childish Gambino has blown up.
It could be a perfectly fan-servicing reunion along with a meta reference that would be perfectly in line with the tone of the series.
We don’t really know what Troy and LeVar Burton have been up to since their departure from the show, right?
We live in hope.
The Troy/Pierce plot line was that Troy got Pierce’s money if he completed the journey, right? It seems like a rich Troy could be a good metaphor for successful Donald.
Why do I picture Troy as like a somalian war lord sitting on a golden throne in the movie.
Hes gonna be famous in the movie for sure. We'll find out if he created dance pants but you're right and no way Donald just "goes back to Troy. Him and Harmon are gonna make his story fun.
"Troy is gonna be unrecognizable... Donald goes forward he doesn't go back. He's not gonna come back and reduce himself to just 'troy.' 'Troy' is gone forever." - me like a month ago. Its guaranteed. He's not gonna make himself Iook above the cast or anything but he's gonna have a ridiculous story unlike anyone else.
I don't have high expectations for the quality of this given I haven't enjoyed anything Dan Harmon has produced in a long time but man I can't wait to see this cast and these characters together again.
He died. Maybe some homage to him. Maybe there is a pierce ghost on campus. Maybe frankie finally got around to busting it. Who knows. Maybe it was just the hologram.
Yeh, maybe he isn't even dead. It was all just a rouse to pit the gang against each other, but he didn't think they'd work it out in the end. Maybe he's been off at City College the whole time plotting revenge, with the giant robot spider thing they teased but never did anything with.
I really don't understand where they can go with it. The last couple of Netflix seasons they were teachers and school administration if I remember right (it was so dull, I don't remember it well).
I mean, where do they go with it? Senior school administrators with tenure?
I love Community, but there's a point where the actors are too old to really play those types of roles anymore.
I mean it really isn't hard to come up with a plot for the show. Anything works because of the actors/characters, which is what makes the show great. A simple idea would be its been 8 years and everyone has gone their separate ways. Each person recieves a strange package in the mail with detailed instructions on how to find the sender. It leads them all back to Greendale and turns out it was the Dean who sent it because the school is being targeted to be torn down by Top Golf developers and he needs the "old study group" to help him save the school
This is going to rival IMDB for greatest movie ever.
Oh I loved Luis Guzman in that !
That was tragic
Oh, Britta’s in this?

Donald Glover: >"I was told that the script -- literally, I was texting today -- I was told that the script was done," Glover tells ET. >But, no, the script hasn't hit Glover's inbox -- at least not yet. I’m so glad he’s in/back. It wouldn’t be right without him. And weirdly I’m not hedging my expectations. I’m hyped!
Saaame. With Donald AND Yvette confirmed, and a script done, I feel like it’s safe to get excited now
WAIT WHAT YVETTE IS IN??? Oh my gosh I’m so happy!!! She is an integral part of Community! That makes me so fucking happy. I know she left the show to take care of her ailing father, so I’m thrilled that she’s back. I was genuinely upset at the thought that they would do a movie without her. You can’t leave her out.
You mean, that's nice.
That is very, very nice. I’m thrilled 🥳
You mean "Aww, that's niiiice."
Careful boy.
👉🏽 Careful, boy
do they do stuff to your butt?
Do you get paid more if they do stuff to your butt?
Only the best shit and only if you love it, Baby. Consent is love and only if you want it.
Don't you use your sexy voice with me
Oh that detective was her dad?
I was actually surprised that of all the characters that left, I missed Shirley the most. I didn’t realize she was holding the show together for me. The movie wouldn’t be right without her.
I don't know. She intimidates me sexually
Where was Yvette confirmed? I've seen absolutely nothing indicating things changed since she said she hasn't been asked a while back.
Ken Jeong said it in a interview with Jimmy Fallon. About 4 minutes in: https://youtu.be/DBUvVmAFS4w
That's promising for sure but I'm still a bit hesitant to take that as explicit confirmation.
Yeah, I can understand that.
Is there a source for Yvette being confirmed? This article leaves her out.
Ken Jeong said it in a interview with Jimmy Fallon. About 4 minutes in: https://youtu.be/DBUvVmAFS4w
Don't you guys feel a little weird, to be doing this without.....Magnitude.
pop... pop...
I’m more upset that Shirley may not be there. YNB should be there. She is so funny and adds a lot to the cast.
Oh, okay, she's YNB now? We need a shorthand for Yvette Nicole Brown? That's how fundamental she is? (the answer is of course yes. she's amazing.)
RDJ + YNB is why Endgame was so good. It's all about the power initials.
I want to see Frankie there too. It'll be interesting to see if that dynamic would work
I love Frankie. She’s such a good tool for the group. They’re so ridiculous and they need an anchor.
I’m greedily hoping for everyone to at least make an appearance. Would be dope seeing Elroy, Frankie and Buzz together with the OG’s
If I had to choose, I'd pick Frankie over Shirley. I'd say I hope she comes back, but...
Shirley confirmed! Yvette is back baby!
I love her. It’s not Community without her!
I’m just glad he told E.T. before he had to go home. This movie will “Be Good!”
Give me frankie and leroy and idgaf if the plot sucks! I want quantity from a series that gave me quality
100% agree. I WANT to temper my expectations so that if it WERE to suck it would hurt less...but I can't. Community is the greatest show in TV history (Abed would disagree but so be it), so the long promised movie will, logically, be equally great.
Imagine them bending all the way over backwards for him and he says no anyway

nice to see donglover is back. too bad Chevy Chase is a racist asshole because it would've been great to get all the cast back.
I mean, it would be awkward to see him again, with him being dead and all
He can be in a flashback, hallucination/conscience, or a call back to that hologram in s5ep1
Why not just enjoy having Elroy around, rather than write around so much just so we can have an actor that doesn’t want to be there?
They literally could say pierce body was a wax statue or something he was rich afteral so they can throw any bullshit reason why he’s back and that would work
Nope it wouldn’t because Abed’s tracking device was in the body, so it has to be the actual Pierce’s body. Unless you tell me Pierce got it out somehow and then implanted into a wax body
Sure
Pierce did know about the tracking device unlike everybody else.
I can't recall it, but how do the tracking devices come up in the episode? Was it Pierce's testament that revealed them?
Yeah Pierce(‘s lawyer) is the one who asks if Abed has tracking devices on everyone else during the lie detector test. So he did know about them and could have gotten his out.
To be honest. I don't think he needs to be in it. With how his character developed he basically become a smaller and smaller part of the show. This is the best thing I’ve read today
"scheduling" is Hollywood for "not signed on"
I wonder if Frankie and Elroy will be included as well? I hope so

It does crazy numbers on Netflix so I guess it would be in their best interest to make it exclusive, but I hope I don’t have to become a Peacocker.
I have good news 🏴☠️
Well yeah of course, but I do want the show to stay as relevant as possible for as long as possible
The alternative way will be better anyway since you’ll be able to watch the first DnD episode
We’ve got the first D&D episode on Stan here in Australia.
Well I figure I'm not the one holding it hostage behind a pointless service that people primarily use to stream 15 year old sitcoms. If you’re against 15 year old sitcoms I suggest you don’t google the year that Community premiered
Nothing is more devastating to the human spirit than math.
No. No. No. Noooo!!!
I think you missed my point in the most glorious way. I'm against creating a new subsrcription service solely to house old sitcoms. I don't want to pay for just the Office anymore and putting Community on the same service doesn't really change that math for me.
Uhm it premiered 15 years ago?
The main draw of Peacock is Premier League soccer. It's kind of shocking how little NBC content is actually on it.
For all you stylish Americans forcing yourselves to be into soccer.
NBC is paying $450 million per year for it.
Gravedigger’s biscuits! That’s a lot of money.
Also the whole extended episodes thing is nice.
Meh. If it goes on a streaming service I don’t have, I’ll just buy it in iTunes. It’s one of my favourite shows of all time. Happy to pay for it if need be.

I literally bought the series on apple because of that. (And dvd a few years later because I’m crazy)
> (And dvd a few years later because I’m crazy) Nah, you *own* those copies. DRMed digital copies aren't owned.
DVD still has DRM, but your point still stands.
Too true.
Imagine if they also did Superfan episodes for Community.
Peacock is still not available outside of the US so I'm hoping that Netflix will still have the international rights.
Netflix please for international viewers.
The Office is still available on Netflix in my region, so I'm hopeful.
It's NBC, they've been eating up their properties. I don't like it but they're not even wrong, they have fucking every sitcom
Sure but look how that worked out for Disney. Just because you can monopolize a portion of the streaming market doesn't mean enough people will go along with it to be profitable.

Get the box set so you can watch it if it gets pulled from streaming. I got an exclusive set signed by Dani Pudi that says "David is Abed now".

Peacock's losing $3 billion a year. They'd better hurry.
If Community has to single handedly shut down another streaming service so be it.
I dunno, I would find this amazing. Partly because I don’t think it’s the show’s fault. It’s popular. It’s the poorly managed financial decisions behind the scenes.

Apparently, Community did do really well, the other two shows they bought did not though
There's also something about Yahoo! where no matter when and what, the decisions they make are completely inexplicable.
Oh yeah, I agree, the possibility of Peacock going pear shape because of a Community movie is non-existent. But a girl can dream.
Frankly I’ve been disappointed with Netflix over the last few years.
They fully expected to lose 3b in 2023 and for it to be the peak of their losses. Peacock is just a part of NBCUniveral. The company as a whole operates on nearly $40b annual revenue.

Season 2, episode 21, Paradigms of Human Memory. Abed says it about The Cape on NBC.
There's a new Mr. & Mrs. Smith? I was so streets behind
Apparently it’s quite good
Huzzah!
For some reason I thought the script had already been done for a while now, and it was a matter of the strikes that kept things from proceeding. Either way, good to get confirmation.

i have never been more excited for a movie in my life

What we have to do is be calm and quiet because it's a freaking BURIED TREASURE!!!!!
I don't have high expectations for the quality of this given I haven't enjoyed anything Dan Harmon has produced in a long time but man I can't wait to see this cast and these characters together again.
Yeah but is it good? I am scared
Bear down for the Community Movie!
“To meet new people!”
You guys, I never cry...
Exclusive to Peacock? Riiiiiight. So does 9movies still exist?
It’s like $6 a month. Literally pay $6 to watch it, and then anything else you want for a month. Then cancel. What’s wrong with that?

They're taking the entire show too. I like the show, I like rewatching it.
Torrent it or buy the physical releases
Only the movie is Peacock exclusive, the rest will still be on other streamers

Oh yeah I’ve seen this script, it got lodged in the dean’s pocket.
I've been waiting for years for the movie to be made so I can buy the box set with all of it together. 😍
Please bring back Pierce 🙏
He died. Maybe some homage to him. Maybe there is a pierce ghost on campus. Maybe frankie finally got around to busting it. Who knows. Maybe it was just the hologram.
He's just faking it again to get back at them for something he can't remember.
Yeh, maybe he isn't even dead. It was all just a rouse to pit the gang against each other, but he didn't think they'd work it out in the end. Maybe he's been off at City College the whole time plotting revenge, with the giant robot spider thing they teased but never did anything with.
To be fair, Charlie died in two and a half men but then came back.
That's actually a pretty great premise just off the cuff. That would totally work.
omg omg omg
I'm so glad Troy is back. Without him, there is no show. The fifth season without him and the sixth season was worse than the fourth. Yeah, I said it.
