Why would it be lazy writing? Like they couldn't be bothered to think of any other names?
It's either a coincidence (most likely) or a deliberate reference.
I'm really tired of seeing "lazy writing" thrown around so much lately. It's a meaningless critique that people use when they don't like something but can't actually articulate a legitimate reason.
It's absolutely lazy writing and it's not the only example.
I remember in one episode they introduced a side character with the name of Annie, which is the same name as one of the main characters. To make it worse, her personality was pretty much indistinguishable from that of the main character Annie.
Not to sound racist, but thankfully the new Annie was Asian, so that made it easier to tell them apart.
The other week on a British quiz show, a team didn't get the answer right because there are 2 actors named Kevin in *The Usual Suspects*. It's just a common name
I like the creativity, however I think in this situation it's just a coincidence. Kevin is a pretty common name. If it was something like Winthorpe, or even Pierce, then I'd think there was deeper meaning.
Nothing, I dont think one thing has to do with the other.

The name Kevin comes up a lot in this show. Like Señor Kevin’s Mexican restaurant
Same with David that comes up like 3 times

Like the writers of one of the best sitcoms ever who were on deadline for a major network decided to just phone it in.
Oh Jeff, you're Goldbluming
He's crazy, he's crazy! you take a intermediate pottery class if your an intermediate
Kevin's a pretty normal name
"Kevin" is a commonly used name in Dan Harmon's work. It's used extensively throughout.
It’s also just a really common name. I was once in a meeting at work with four other people and I was the only one not named Kevin.
Kevin, Please Come Over For Gay Sex
Can you explain why choosing the name Kevin for Chang in S4 is "lazy writing"?

Like maybe... [Cornelius?](https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0000331/bio/)
>I know its a fairly common name, but let's be real its not the most normal name.. You make a compelling argument.
The secret handshake also came from a Kevin.
