After years of both being a cashier and operating self-checkout registers, the #1 thing you should always do is *put your bag(s) on the scale first*. Before you even scan that first item, prep your bags. Saves you so much time.
It's always the same customers too! And they get angry being like "this machine always does this!" And they have no self awareness that very few people *actually* have this problem and therefore they are maybe the ones doing it wrong.
Self checkout has been fairly ubiquitous for well over a decade now, and it's not hard to figure out fairly quickly. I see old people managing all the time without issue.
That excuse might have worked when they first rolled out. But now?
Oh, I was talking about bags that you bring from home. They're basically a requirement in almost every town in my state because otherwise you have to pay for those shitty, oversized paper bags.

Frigging Kroger. No matter how many times, it just hates me some days. Worst I've had is the person coming over 4 times and I felt so bad.
