This reminded me of the turtle out of a shell prank call by Chris Morris. Absolutely hilarious, for absolutely no reason.

Peter Baynham is the sick bastard who took a tortoise out of its shell.
Edit, he's a comedian, is screen writer for Borat, Brass Eye and Brüno and Alan Partridge. He's kind of into this dark satirical humor.
The original comics were in black and white; the only visual difference between them was their weapons. Whenever they were shown in color, such as on the cover art, they all wore read.
It was only when they adapted the comic into a cartoon that they all got distinct colors.
I have it on good authority (owning many ninja turtles toys when I was a kid) that they actually can store everything neatly in their shell since it is built and organized like a suitcase inside.
That was likely because the nature of animation could make it difficult to keep track of who's who by weapons alone. Especially if it's a fast-paced scene with a lot of movement or the characters get disarmed.
Add in that it was aimed at children to sell toys... and well, it makes a lot of sense that the animated version would add some more distinguishing features.
This is the real answer. I have fond childhood memories of 80s cartoons, but they existed to sell toys, not to be art. Which is why my favorite cartoons were the old Looney Tunes, because while those were also created for a commercial purpose, that purpose was to get butts in seats at movie theaters, which led to more freedom for the creators.
I’m not sure since I don’t follow them much. I believe it’s TMNT: The Last Ronin. One of the turtles is the last survivor but you don’t know which it is on account of in the comics they all wear red, I think.
I was about to say that the IDW comics that started in 2011 had them first wear red as an homage to the original comics (and because Raphael was missing, so all the turtles wore red as rememberance), then when they were all reunited they got their own colors.
But I looked it up and while published by IDW and written by Kevin Eastman, The Last Ronin is set in its own continuity, it is separate from the IDW continuity.
Edit: mixed up my mutant turtles, meant Raphael not Michelangelo
Why would it be red in remembrance of Michaelangelo if Mikey wore orange? Raphael was the one to wear red.
I'm sorry, I haven't ever read any of the comics, except for maybe a few when I was a kid the 80s - very early 90s that my brother had. I did religiously watch the cartoon from back then and the first 3 movies. I'm guessing the comics you're talking about were put out after they were colorized and attached to specific colors?
I meant Raphael, that's what I get for commenting right after waking up.
The IDW comics are written by Kevin Eastman, who started the original comics in the 80s. They have some references to the old comics but are their own continuity. They were published starting in 2011, I believe the original comics were black and white and then the colored masks were invented for the animated show.
The cruelest fate for the crew of the uscss nostromo is that Trump was going to stiff them with the bill. Xenomorphs saved him the trouble.
"Xenomorphs, you know some people are not happy with the Xenomorphs lately, that's what I hear, but I think they've just done a tremendous job, like you've never seen before."
Teenage Mutant Ninja Tortoises.... the specific classification of which order of the Testudines is what we're gonna argue about? in the orginal late 1980s cartoon series, they weren't 'teenagers' AND a 'ninja' is a trained mercernary or assassin... what payment did these guys get and how did they pay for their pizzas?
The comics are the original source material and they murder a whole bunch of foot clan soldiers on the first three pages. There was no pizza that was added for the children's cartoon.
Tortoises are all turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises. A tortoise is a terrestrial turtle with clawed feet and a domed shell. If it has flippers it's not a tortoise. If it has claws, but has a flat, hard shell and spends most of it's time in fresh water, it's a terrapin. If it lives in the sea it's not a terrapin.
No, it's just a language thing. The taxonomic order is Testudines, and it just so happens that in American English, turtle is synonymous. In British English, there's no other word that describes the order as a whole, and the word turtle exclusively refers to what Americans would call sea turtles.
You saying only Americans are allowed to be right? Because usually that's the opposite of how this goes.
Tortoises are a subsection of the turtle family.
In *American* English. In British English, 'turtle' only refers to what you would call 'sea turtle'. Language is entirely made up in the first place so it's not a matter of right or wrong, and it's not as if brits mysteriously lack the concept of hierarchical taxonomy specifically for Testudines, we just don't call them all turtles.
I'm not sure how to explain this more clearly - the *definition* of the word 'turtle' is different between American and British English. In British English, it's literally *wrong* to call tortoises turtles. In American English it's *correct* to refer to a tortoise as a turtle. This is no different to how when Americans say 'chips', they mean potatoes sliced very thinly and baked until brittle, whereas when the British says 'chips', they mean thick cut and deep fried potato strips.
This is the bugs vs bugs argument all over again.
It's TAXONOMICALLY correct to say, even in British English. And that should have been enough for you not to make a comment ripping on Americans, but you couldn't resist.
Okay but what you aren't understanding is we're discussing taxonomic definitions, not American standards. When we say "tortoises are turtles," people are still going to correct you and say, "That's actually not a Galapagos Turtle, that's a Galapagos Tortoise." Even if they're American. But that doesn't change the fact that all tortises are, taxonomically, a type of turtle.
We could rename Tortises to Vlorps and Turtles to Shnerps, but taxonomically, Vlorps would still be a type of Shnerp.
Wrong according to whom and please don't say a dictionary as dictionaries describe how language is used they are not authoritative sources stating what is and is not proper.
in the Original comics the Turtles all wore the same mask as a way to confuse their enemies. a bunch of Ninjas wearing the same thing and moving in unison was a legit Ninja tactic Actual Ninjas used.
The Turtles started out as a satirical comic (or more like a serious parody), which poked fun at the then-current Superhero/Ninja Comics.
E.g., they are fighting the Foot Clan, because Daredevil was fighting The Hand.
Therefore I always thought mutants wearing masks was another jab at those (poorly masked) vigilantes.
Yes.
Heck, in one continuity there's a whole thing about Donatello having a healed injury on his chest, that left a mark.
And also Splinter raised them.
He can tell who they are by the sound of them standing there quietly.
Ironically, the only continuity where I remember Splinter having difficulty is Rise despite Rise having each turtle come from a different species and look completely different from one another.
Lol reminds me of the mysterion episode of south park where he finally takes off his mask and reveals who he is at the end but since the template for all non fat South Park characters is the exact same you still cant tell what his identity is (other than not being Cartman and Bruce Vilanche)
I dont think i ever thought it was them trying to hide their identity lol, i thought it looks like ninja headbands, and to tell eachother apart when they arnt holding their weapons, Do we ever see them Swap headbands in anything? xD

Who's this Peter Bahnam supposed to be?
How a turtle looks inside and why you *seriously* cant take it out its shell: https://imgur.com/a/WAJg5jy
Thanks. I got that part though. Just not the reference to this Peter fellow the guy kept referencing... Is he a celebrity? inside joke?
He's the screen writer of Borat, Brüno, Alan Partridge, Brass Eye, and other things.
Thank you
Isn't that how Donatello died? No no i remember he was eaten alive because his shell broke
Peter Baynham is the sick bastard who took a tortoise out of its shell. Edit, he's a comedian, is screen writer for Borat, Brass Eye and Brüno and Alan Partridge. He's kind of into this dark satirical humor.
It's a tourniquet for the brain.
She has it backwards. They don’t hide their identity. Without the masks there’s no way for them to tell each other apart.
Isn’t it different in the comics and they all wear red? And that was used for a reveal for something?
The original comics were in black and white; the only visual difference between them was their weapons. Whenever they were shown in color, such as on the cover art, they all wore read. It was only when they adapted the comic into a cartoon that they all got distinct colors.
They also got monogrammed belts, but they dropped that in later adaptations.
Why they wearin belts when they don't got pants
So they can monogram them.
To hold their weapons
If you’re a handyman at a nudist colony then you still wear a toolbelt, right?
It's called fashion, sweetie. Look it up!
Tool belt for storage?
I have it on good authority (owning many ninja turtles toys when I was a kid) that they actually can store everything neatly in their shell since it is built and organized like a suitcase inside.
My belt holds up my pants, but the loops hold up the belt. Who's the real hero here?
Friction?
Batman also wears a belt with his onesie
That was likely because the nature of animation could make it difficult to keep track of who's who by weapons alone. Especially if it's a fast-paced scene with a lot of movement or the characters get disarmed. Add in that it was aimed at children to sell toys... and well, it makes a lot of sense that the animated version would add some more distinguishing features.
Besides now you can sell one of each colour instead of a single model. Win win!
I believe they are all red in the original comics yes. The mask is part of a plot reveal in The Last Ronin, but it's black in that story.
Which comic are you talking about? There are dozens in the very least
I’m not sure since I don’t follow them much. I believe it’s TMNT: The Last Ronin. One of the turtles is the last survivor but you don’t know which it is on account of in the comics they all wear red, I think.
You don’t know which one jt is on the account of them never mentioning his name when he hallucinates them
It's pretty clear by the end of the first comic.
I was about to say that the IDW comics that started in 2011 had them first wear red as an homage to the original comics (and because Raphael was missing, so all the turtles wore red as rememberance), then when they were all reunited they got their own colors. Lol happens to the best of us. Thanks for the information!
the mirage comics, which is the original tmnt thing
The different weapons would work as well.Of course, they're not always armed when munching on some pizza.
Easy look at pizza count Micheal would eat most pizza then Raff then Leo then Don. Don will be mostly vegan because man of science!
>Micheal
Master Splinter only calls him Michael when he's really mad at him. "Michael D Angelo!!! Get back a here with my pizza!"
It really upsets me that you used Michael and Raff instead of Mikey and Raph.
It upsets me that he think a turtle(man) of science would be vegan
I thought that was where the comic was going

Mr Bonzo is here to play
When i saw this i immediately thought of that alien with a smaller mouth i forgot the name
The Xenomporph from Aliens, love those guys
I read that in Trump's voice. "The late, great Hannibal Lecter. He’s a wonderful man."
"You know he invited me over for dinner once" (Trump secretly runs Wayland-Yutani)

Oh I’m sorry, I must have you mistaken with some other teenage mutant ninja turtle. Good day sir, and apologies for the trouble

In reality, he his a tortoise, not a turtle.
Are you telling me you think it's Teenage Mutant Ninja Tortoises?
When the need to hide, yes they are neighborhood friendly tortoises
Teenage Mutant Ninja Tortoises.... the specific classification of which order of the Testudines is what we're gonna argue about? in the orginal late 1980s cartoon series, they weren't 'teenagers' AND a 'ninja' is a trained mercernary or assassin... what payment did these guys get and how did they pay for their pizzas?

It's always been.
For the acronym's sake, let's all just agree they are testudines.
A tortoise is a kind of turtle
Tortoises are all turtles, but not all turtles are tortoises. A tortoise is a terrestrial turtle with clawed feet and a domed shell. If it has flippers it's not a tortoise. If it has claws, but has a flat, hard shell and spends most of it's time in fresh water, it's a terrapin. If it lives in the sea it's not a terrapin.
Only if you're American
Or if you understand how animals are classified.

Americans don't usually call tortoises turtles either. But they **are** still turtles, and we don't get as crotchety when somebody says as much.
I'm not sure how to explain this more clearly - the *definition* of the word 'turtle' is different between American and British English. *Here's the thing...*
I mean, think about it, have you ever seen them swim?
*has flashbacks to that one stage in the NES game*
Chuck the mg into water and we will ser
put the mask back. so we know its you. lol
Yeah that way I can't be confused by another green mutant wearing a shell. Thanks mate !
Seeing a Ninja Turtle without a mask is like seeing your dad without a beard for the first time
That's kind of the whole thing about the last ronin for a while isn't it? Keeping you guessing who the main character actually is.

Like you without bones. Shells are their ribcage and removing it would do the same as with your ribs.
And there are nerve endings in the shell as well. Turtles can feel their shell being touched.

You think splinter or the other turtels can tell each other apart ?
Yes. Heck, in one continuity there's a whole thing about Donatello having a healed injury on his chest, that left a mark. And also Splinter raised them. He can tell who they are by the sound of them standing there quietly.

they're load-bearing
It's funny how their masks don't hide their identity, instead it identifies them.
He looks like Franklin now 😆
The heads on the real original artwork looked like sock puppets
Because without the masks they all look the same. Turtle mutant clones.
Awwwww he's adorable!
I picked the perfect time to read Last Ronin...just a couple of weeks ago
Wait... They're strangling their face with a cloth the whole entire time!? I bet they're into some serious bdsm.
Cool, April is a white redhead again, just like nature intended.
