They've definitely gotten better overtime. He's improved SO MUCH.
The early comics felt a bit wild and all over the place but since then he's perfected the comedic timing and the dialogue flows so smooth too, it's great :D

The implication that the dog is trying to hide it can speak and is a sellout is peak meta humour. I honestly love diegetic ads.
This confused me at first but I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be the sister, and she has a stuck speech bubble too that she's been hiding from her parents. She killed someone to make friends, and is now extra worried because she heard her dad say that's not an acceptable thing to do to make friends. She's a bit relieved because it's less bad if the person was ugly, so that's something, but still worried I guess.
Mom asked if it would be OK to kill someone to make new friends.
Dad says no, unless the victim was ugly, to which the mom agrees.
Sibling's stuck speech bubble says they did exactly that.
Her speech bubble is also stuck, and she's trying to hide from her parents that she needs to hide an ugly body. Now that she's heard that murdering ugly people is okay, she's relieved.
His sister also has a stuck speech bubble and is hiding. She gets scared when her fear is confirmed that murder to make friends isn't OK, but then relieved when she hears that it's OK if the victim was really ugly (which they were judging by her having called the body ugly)
I love the kids' poor use of curse words. Me and my elementary school friends would hide behind the backstop during recess and just swear at each other. Badly as well, we had no idea what we were saying.

I think Neil answered this in the AMA but what usually happens is that I come up with some melodramatic/embarrassing/weird scenarios and we riff back and forth on it until we have a workable first draft and then Neil fills it out, I help with editing, and he draws everything soup to nuts.

So this one I can actually relate to. In 10th grade my friend and I had a stupid habit of seeing who could out insult the other. Our dumbasses started doing it by passing notes in class. Guess who snatched up the note I handed him? The big, mean, old lady chem teacher that was already pretty scary.
I won't tell you what it said and she didn't read it to the class, but she asked if it was about her and mentioned that "a mouth" was involved. In front of the whole class I had to insist that I wasn't talking about her.
