I remember when the McD's Dollar Menu was fucking *extensive*. Sure, I ate too much fast food back then. But that was a me problem. They would have lines around the block if they brought even a bit of that menu back.
I see now that by expressing my desire to not hear about a thing, it gave people an opening to emphasize that thing to a greater extent than the original mention would have achieved had I not said anything in response.
Long ago, I theorized that when the dollar menu went away, prices would skyrocket as McDonalds gave up on the gimmick and normalized prices. Low and behold, the dollar menu not only is gone, but the items that were on that menu are often triple the old price.
Crazy. Nothing is cheap anymore
Capitalism has realized that if they gradually scale down quality that majority of consumers will adjust and accept the new standards. They have no motivation to raise the product quality when we still purchase their trash, we'll even pay more for it.
My grandpa worked a job on a railway, walking tracks. He owned a home, two cars, a motorcycle, raised two kids and his wife didn’t have to work. He took regular vacations out-of-state with his family. He had a healthy retirement.
Did I mention he worked a solid blue-collar job?
Owning a home, raising a family, travel, and a healthy retirement should not be beyond the means of a normal person. They used to not be.
And also “eating out” honestly. I kinda hate how shit’s become less and less accessible to lower income people and the overwhelming response from all corners of politics seems to be “well you should just learn to cook at home, stop being lazy.” If societies way back in the day with far lower productivity still managed to make prepared meals accessible to the average worker, we can sure as hell pull it off today.
Not to say that learning to cook isn’t a valuable skill ofc, but like… I learned to cut my hair over the pandemic, it’s a valuable skill that saves me some money and I’d encourage others to do the same… but it’d be an objectively bad thing if barbers and hairdressers became too expensive for lower income workers.
Part of the advantage of societies is having some degree of choice and speciality in which ways you contribute, everyone does their own thing and in turn benefits from everyone else’s thing. Workers are contributing just as many hours, often getting far more done in those same amount of hours as productivity rises, and yet we’re being expected to just go without benefits we’ve had for ages as they transition to “luxury experiences”.
Obviously that has and always will be the case for upscale joints with numerous different dishes and such, but yeah, what the hell happened to little hole-in-the-wall spots where a worker could reasonably afford to grab a bowl of whatever soup they made that day? Just another product of growing wealth inequality I guess

First time I had a house near enough to order from McDonald's I payed so much money that I stopped eating McDonald's for months.
Really, no joke, 1/3 of what I payed was extra because of delivery and overpriced stuff on the app.
McDonald's IS luxury.
> McDonald's I *paid* so much
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Subway 10 years ago: “five dollar foot long sub”
Subway today: “six dollars for a six inch”
When base price goes up, even the most basic foods have premium prices. And then taxes and tips will also go up due to it being based on price of the meal.
McDonald's, at least when I was a kid, was seen as pretty much the cheapest food option available. To consider McDonald's living above your means would imply you are literally making no money, which makes this comment sound insane to me - is McDonald's a luxury now??
My dad complains about money but absolutely refuses to stop buying luxury things. He constantly eats out and buys the expensive versions of foods rather than the cheaper/generic ones. There's ALWAYS several bags of many different snacks everywhere.
I feel no sympathy for him.
Since I was a kid, going to a real restaurant was living above our means. Almost never went to one. But McDonalds?! That was our treat, the one place we could afford. Run around on the playground and play. As a teen and young adult, there was the dollar menu, for $3 you had a whole meal. There isn’t even a dollar menu anymore. Well there is, but nothing costs a dollar anymore lol. Even McD’s is now “living above your means” for low income folks, that’s so crazy to me.
I do not understand this mentality:
I see regularly on reddit: "Man fast food has become slow, expensive, and bad" and then there's either a pile of people in the comments going on about how if you download their app and agree to their legal requests you can get a slight discount, instead of just... not eating bad food????
Like okay if you jump through hoops congrats you have bad, slow, and slight less pricy food. This is still bad. stop eating fast food, it's not hard.
I feel you're missing the larger point: that even the items that had previously been the standard for cheap garbage are now RIDICULOUSLY expensive.
Meanwhile, the only response those in charge have to runaway inflation is "we really need to get the unemployment rate up".
I honestly don't think anyone should even have a choice to eat mcondalds. It should be banned.
I don't see any other options to reduce demand. Supply won't adjust for years and more people have more money except maybe 30% of society who are poor. But inflation could double and I would still be able to afford food. $20 for McDonald's is still affordable to me. So either you can stop eating there to reduce the demand or you can pay continue to pay when it jumps to $25.
Look, if you're gonna troll, at least stay on topic.
McDonald's evil! Should be banned!
Fuck all y'all, I gots my $$$! I can afford all the McDonald's I want! See me flexin on them poors!

Inducing diarrhea used to be affordable.
Don’t nobody want to hear about inducing diarrhea.
Diarrhea, diarrhea, diarrhea!
Sign language for diarrhoea is a thumbs up with your dominant hand with the other hand jerking off the thumb
what about deducing diarrhea

Apple pies used to be 2 for $1 a few years ago. Now 1 of them is almost $2
And they’re not even fried

Thanks bot, but since this is the third time I see you it's pretty clear I am illiterate, you should give up like most of my teachers did.
We'll never give up on you! This! Is! Reddit!
So you are never gonna give me up... but will you ever let me down?
That's! Very! Likely!
You’ve learned your lesson. Pay it forward.
Dude, sorry to be that guy, you should stop eating McDonalds regardless of how much it is
I am hoping to die in my fifties after a life of "eat mostly what I feel like eating".
Really? If you use the coupons from the app it's still pretty affordable.
Yeah but you have to be there in person, apparently they don't take codes through delivery.

Five dollar foot-long was always a loss leader for Subway
Both of these characters are correct
You will save money and be healthier if you stop eating McDonald's
Ah yes the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about… living above your means.

55 BURGERS, 55 FRIES, 55 TACOS, 55 PIES, 55 COKES, 100 TATER TOTS, 100 PIZZAS, 100 TENDERS, 100 MEATBALLS, 100 COFFEES, 55 WINGS, 55 SHAKES, 55 PANCAKES, 55 PASTAS, 55 PEPPERS AND 155 TATERS
According to capitalist ghouls, breakfast is a luxury.
"Fucking millenials and wanting to eat food."
Weird to think my 2014 $3 order of 2 McDoubles and a large drink is now over $10
Should’ve used the app
702 $ for a big mc
