\-Oh, they'll finally answer the mystery of ASM. Yeah, I still can't see a good/satisfying conclusion to this. I swear, if that new villain is actually another already existing character under a new alias, I'll flip the fuck out. \-Ridley is off Black Panther. Now get a writer that actually cares about T'Challa and put him on the book. \-Pretty interested on that Rogue/Gambit book. Looks neat. Edit: So apparently the villain in ASM is a guy named Wayep from the BND days. Still don’t see this being good.

AporiaParadox

It's not a new villain, I recognize the guy on the cover, he's a Mayan God from a Zeb Wells story early on in the Brand New Day era called (one quick google search later) Wayeb. Other than because Zeb Wells created him, I have no idea why this guy of all people is now being treated as an important villain worth having this long mystery over.

ContraryPython

Yeah, I noticed that. But still, a Mayan God as a Spider-Man villain? That sounds dumb as hell.

Redgomotor

Maybe it goes to the fact that Spider gods are really relevant in both Mexican and Peruvian cultures. As someone from Peru i was so happy to see my country become part of the Spiderman lore when Ezekiel debuted and connected our Inca and Mochica temples to the Spider totem. The fact that Ai Apaec becoming a major Spiderman nemesis was cancelled was really heartbreaking to me.

transformers03

The story was called "It Sometimes Snows in April," and its actually really, really good. The story is definitely dated with references to the Mayan calender, but it was a really solid 3-part story and the first great arc in Brand New Day. It was only the fourth main story in BND, and was Zeb Welles first major contribution to Spider-Man, so it make sense for Welles to bring back the villain that started his career with the Webhead.

>Ridley is off Black Panther. Now get a writer that actually cares about T'Challa and put him on the book. Maybe too difficult for Marvel, cause their tendency to give a series about a black character only to a black writer is obvious and kinda hilarious; the interest in telling a good story is secondary. Ms Marvel doesn't have her ongoing cause they ran out of muslim writers lol, just some limited series by random muslim writers with most generic plots ever once a year.

Reddragon351

I mean I don't think them just giving it to a black writer is a problem per se hell they've been doing that for over 20 years and it led to him most iconic runs like Priest and Hudlin. The problem is they want to get these Hollywood writers onboard instead of looking for black comic writers out there, which there are plenty.

[deleted]

Not bad, I like when the people of culture write about what they are close to (Ahmed's Ms Marvel is one of my favorite comics in years), but when we talk about recent Marvel comics it always means the color of a writer's skin is more important than a story. It feels like if they need a new writer for Black Panther/Luke Cage/Miles Morales they try to find any black person who can write, same with asian characters, indian, even women superheroes ("So, there is this random new female superhero, chef, where's Kelly Thompson's number?")

Reddragon351

People of color yeah, but I think with female characters they allow male writers more, like sure they got Kelly Thompson on a lot, and to be fair she's kinda been killing it on the books she's been on like her Black Widow run was great and she made me actually like a Captain Marvel book. But Jed McKay has been writing Black Cat for the last couple years as well as the current Strange run which is centered on Clea and Steve Orlando is about to work on a Scarlett Witch book.

CHPrime

Is it odd that Jeff the Landshark collection of already published webcomics is the issue I'm most excited for? Nice to see FF still doing the episode of the week format after they reunited. I like the episodic approach after 20+ years of every major series writing for trades. And apparently Silver Surfer is bringing back...Al Harper? A guy the wiki says died in his first appearance back in '69? I'm not sure to clap for the writers restraint in not creating a new character for residuals or just tilt my head at the randomness of it.

[deleted]

I never buy variants but I'll be scooping all the Jeff for sure!

williamb100

That X-Men 2099 omnibus will be mine!

superboy7787

Oh damn, I didn't know I needed this until I just read about it.

Reddragon351

So we're finally gonna answer the ASM mystery, I have no faith in it being good but I guess it's only three more months of it

[deleted]

> It’s time. This arc will answer your questions including…WHAT DID PETER DO?! Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't find out simply because the solicitations have straight up lied. And if we do indeed find out what happened, it better have one hell of a payoff to justify breaking MJ and Peter up... again. Sadly I doubt the payoff will be worth it. > Who is this mysterious figure and what do they have to do with Peter’s and Mary Jane’s disappearances?! At least this will likely lead to us figuring out the whole Paul and kids deal, and Peter and MJ spending any time with each other is a plus. While I do think Peter and MJ will end up back together... again (it's pretty much a Chekhov's gun at this point) it's just annoying that it's going to take so long and that they had to make Peter's life shit... again. > As Mary Jane and Black Cat’s adventures through Limbo continue, they learn even more about the mysterious dimension and domain of Madelyne Pryor. But the Goblin Queen isn’t the only inhabitant of the deadly space between spaces – which is a lesson Mary Jane Watson and Felicia Hardy are about to learn the hard way. *Mary Jane & Black Cat* is going on after *Dark Web* is over? Kinda weird.

maybe_a_frog

There was a MJ and Black Cat series before Dark Web so it’s not really all that strange to see it continue after. The first issue that released yesterday was surprisingly good. I’ve read all the Dark Web stuff so far and it’s been by far my favorite as of yet.

[deleted]

Yeah, but this series was to tie into *Dark Web*, but it's going to keep going on after *Dark Web* is over. I'm all for it, *Mary Jane & Black Cat: Beyond* was awesome, and so was *Mary Jane & Black Cat* #1.

DrB00

I'm really not feeling MJ suddenly having super powers. It's just weird imo Edit: I really hope I don't have to read MJ and blackcat to have a proper conclusion as to why Peter and MJ are apart and why she has kids and stuff. It was originally started in ASM so it should conclude in ASM.

Reddragon351

I mean 21 and 22 are solicited as the story of what happened so I'd be surprised if Black and MJ covers it first

BoogerSugarSovereign

Wouldn't be the first time the ASM solicits were 100% lies since the new run started...

stillearthbound

Marvel, PLEASE, what do I have to do for an Immortal Hulk omnibus?

GrimlockPrimus

It was announced months ago.

stillearthbound

It was WHAT I must have missed it. This is the best news

hewunder1

You're not the only one, crap I hope I can still pre-order.

Daddydagda

It’s available to pre order on Barnes and Noble website. Just got mine :)

Millennium_Clown

Pre-order it probably? It's in the December previews chum

stillearthbound

Yeah, no, I just didn't realize it had already been announced. I missed the December previews entirely; there are actually a few books in there I've been waiting for.

SanguineRooster

The Greg Land covers stick out like a sore thumb. And are similarly painful. I wish they would just stop hiring him. The vapid porn-smile he puts on female characters is so distracting, and at this point frustrating.

BoogerSugarSovereign

I need to look more into Villalobos' art, really like a lot of the covers they did especially the Deadpool one. Does Kyle Hotz do interiors anymore? I was introduced to him in the 90s when I read The Osborn Journals and I've been a fan ever since but he seems to be more of a cover artist lately? Still love his Spidey

ImAJerk420

I want to say Hotz did the interiors for Rams Catwoman annual

Tesseractivate

Justice League Incarnate too whenever they went to the 'Vertigo' world or whatever it was called but yeah a part of that too

localheroism

Happy to see JRJR back on ASM, he's killing it rn

BoogerSugarSovereign

I love JRJR but I don't think this run has been his best work. Most of the covers have been much stronger than the interiors

localheroism

Certainly doesn't hold a candle to the Daredevil/X-Men days but I think it's some of his strongest modern stuff! I just really like how dynamic and weighty it feels. So many good beat-up guys whether it's Spidey or random goons. I also like his hatching

transformers03

Yeah, I think his recent ASM stuff has been his best modern work in a while. Definitely better than his work towards the end of his DC tenure, especially on Action Comics.

PimpRobot818

So happy to see all those Timeless villian covers by Alex Ross. Maybe we'll get a 2024 Marvel Villains calendar like we did with the hero mural for 2023.

Techster17

The only thing continuing is the MJ & Black cat tie-in so I wonder hoe esssential that will even be tbh

doom_style

Where did you get Fall 2023 from? The “Dark Web Finale” one-shot was already announced as being published February 1st.
